I suspect the race card is rapidly approaching its sell-by date.

Because Obama pays ransoms to foreign assholes, he thinks we'll pay reparations to domestic assholes.

dividing the nation along racial lines.

Right!

In the entire history of the US, conservatives have never ever enforced racial divisions.

And white people are great!

Danube on iPad

Whie Americans are indeed great. That cannot be sensibly denied.

Strawman Cometh

So Glenn gets JOMaLanched - turn about is fair play.

I guess the closest parallel, was with Woodrow Wilson who resegregated the DC public schools, who was pen pals with Thomas Dixon, who had another associate

conservatives have never ever enforced racial divisions

Funny, it was Southern Democrats who enforced racial divisions before the Civil War and in post-war reconstruction leading up to Brown v. Board of Education.

Julia wants to paint JOM with her own color-polarized brush. Get a life.

MarkO

As was her distant cousin Elmer.

Victor Davis Hanson, via Insty, has a good on topic column today: Crime as Politics

The Duke lacrosse case, the Rolling Stone fiasco, the mythographies of Lena Dunham all teach us that it is far more dangerous to be falsely accused as a sexual predator than to falsely accuse the innocent as a sexual predator.

NKvirusedand back

The true believing Progs ( a tiny but connected and vocal tiny minority) are unreformed racialists. Mayor Bane being today's leading exemplar.

Miss Marple

Which group is it that built Western Civilization? Defeated Hitler? Sent a man to the moon?

Those are accomplishments to be proud of, in my opinion.

Extraneus

Which group is it that...

Freed the slaves?

Danube on iPad

As Margaret Thatcher said, in the 20th Century most of the world's problems were solved by English-speaking wjite men.

clarice

thnx, daddy.

sbw

Progs can destroy, not build.

Progs envy wealth and destroy it to keep people oppressed.

Progs blame others for their own lack of accomplishment.

Progs converse to defeat others, not to come to understanding.

NKvirusedand back

As MissM reminds us, we should never underestimate Prog opponents, but I still agree with Prof Jacobson's take. Fauxchahontas would go down in the '16 general like Goldwater or McGovern: http://www.bostonherald.com/news_opinion/opinion/op_ed/2014/12/jacobson_will_elizabeth_warren_sell_outside_the_bubble

sbw@12:50: so true.

"In 2012, 123 African-Americans were shot dead by police. There are currently more than 43 million blacks living in the U.S.A.," O'Reilly said on his program. "Same year, 326 whites were killed by police bullets. Those are the latest stats available."

http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/02/politics/kristoff-oreilly-police-shooting-numbers-fact-check/

Approximately 52% of murders are committed by blacks. So it's hardly clear from this that blacks are disproportionately killed by police, if we use the murder rates as a proxy for violent crime by the race of the perpetrator.

cathyf - re your grandfather and his cousin, Emilio, who were prosecuted for their winemaking efforts . . .
Posted by: cathyf | December 28, 2014 at 11:26 PM (in the previous thread)

California's ABC (Alcohol and Beverage Control Board) is the state agency that regulated winemaking in the 1900's, IIRC. The California AG's office would be the prosecuting authority for winemaking violations, so Earl Warren (or his office) may have been the prosecutors going after your grandfather.

Would you mind mentioning where, specifically, your grandfather lived? My grandfather, who had a farm in the Santa Ynez Valley north of Santa Barbara, reportedly considered making wine in the late 30's/early 40's with one of his close Italian friends. Would have made them the first winemaking pioneers in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Miss Marple

jimmyk,

I suggest pre-emptive campaigning against her. She does very well with people who aren't familiar with her background, as I have said.

I still think the number one question to ask her is about that ONE class for which she was paid over $300,000, and also to ask if she made the rest of her millions from textbooks which were extremely expensive for most students.

One of her books, paperback and USED, was priced at $48 on Amazon.

Jeff Dobbs

Progs: "We need a national conversation on race!"

Conservatives: "No, we don't."

Progs: "See? That just proves you're racist!"

MSM: "Race. Race, race. Race, race, race. Also, race."

Conservatives: "Fine. Let's have a conversation. Looking at the stats, it is worth noting that in the black community......"

Progs: "How dare you talk about race, you racist!"

...

Progs: "We need a national conversation on rape culture!"

Conservatives: "No, we don't."

Progs: "See? That just proves you're pro-rape!"

MSM: "Rape culture. Rape, rape culture. Rape, rape, rape culture. Also, rape culture."

Conservatives: "Fine. Let's have a conversation. Looking at the stats, it is worth noting that rapes on college campuses have declined......"

Progs: "How dare you talk about stats when even one rape is too many, you rape apologist!"

`

I suspect the race card is rapidly approaching its sell-by date.

I agree.

Has Julia told us whether she is black who hates whites, or a white who hates whites?

`

Former Pennsylvania skinhead wins GOP post

he said the committee's bylaws indicate the only qualification for office is that a candidate has been a registered Republican for the last two years

Eric in Boise

Has Julia told us whether she is black who hates whites, or a white who hates whites?

I'm going to go with "adult child who hates him/herself." Probably pretty safe there. Also more "inclusive".

Strawman Cometh

Some boos were audible Monday in the crowd of police officers.

At one point, de Blasio said, "You’ll confront all the problems that plague society, problems you didn’t create."

To which at least one audience member replied, "You did."

Mayor Bane is a magnet for this sort of public criticism, justified criticism. He is such a hateful man.

Obama’s golf game boots bride and groom from Hawaii wedding

President Obama’s golf game Sunday forced Army Captains Natalie Heimel and her fiancé, Edward Mallue Jr. to relocate their wedding ceremony.

The lovebirds were set to wed Sunday at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, located on the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, until they learned Obama had his eye on the same course and they would need to find a new spot for their nuptials.

“In less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned,” the groom’s sister told Bloomberg News.

Instead, they held the ceremony on green lawn on the base that offered views of the Pacific coastline.

James D.

He totally is, NK.

Every bit of disrespect and contempt shown to him is deserved and well-earned.

It's heartening to see the open public contempt of him (the police turning their backs on him, etc). If our elected leaders are not going to show respect for the offices they hold and the people for whom they work, they should not expect to receive respect in return.

RickB

Hit,

What a great illustration. I'm sure a gruber can be found to gin up a model to contrast with reality but progs are finding chimera invention and maintenance rather exhausting. Perhaps they should combine a few to make their lying lives easier? What's wrong with 'Peak SkyDragon Oil Glut'? Or 'Increased Thug Deaths Accompany Fraternity Gang Rapes'?

Alternatively, perhaps we've reached Peak Stupidity.

Beasts of England

She's a white who hates whites. Self-loathing losers gotta lose...

James D.

RickB, I don't think there is such a thing as Peak Stupdity.

I imagine our prog friends will continue to find new ways to lower the bar, pretty much endlessly.

I think Julia is a mestasticized form of Ben. Both like to link, just in different ways, to the SPLC and The Guardian. That and you've never seen them together at the same time.

BTW, notice that the race card seems to have its only playability in Blue Hells. While in Houston we had a reverse with one and a half twists where a white mayor and city attorney tried to compel restricted speech from black preachers.

JamesD,

Mrs. JiB can read Italian if you need some translation.

James D.

Nrciso, I imagine Han Solo's comment that "and I thought they smelled bad on the OUTSIDE" applies equally well to Ms. Pauley as it does to tauntauns, too.

James D.

Thanks, JiB! It's double-checking of translation that I need.

I've had the first book translated into Italian (and I'm waiting on the French, Portugese, German and Spanish versions, too), but since to my eternal shame, I cannot read or speak my mother tongue, I don't know how accurate it is.

AS an aside, my wife and I are both exceptions to the conventional wisdom that skill in math, language and music all go together. I'm great at math (or at least I was way back when in high school), but crummy with learning foreign languages and I'm about as unmusically talented as it's possible to be. My wife is great with language (she majored in Russian, for one thing) and can read and play music, but she can't do math to save her life.

well she started out working for Lindsay, yet never learned anything from the experience, I'm sure she's perfectly charming, yikes>

Miss Marple

Mrs. Trudeau's sister and I dated the same guy without knowing it for about 6 months.

It was discovered when we coincidentally had rooms 3 floors apart in a dorm at IU, my freshman year. A friend of mine saw the oaf's picture in her dorm room while visiting a friend on the same floor.

And thus did Mr. Kenneth Eaton depart both of our lives in scorn and shame.

She is proficient in Dutch, French and Italian as well as English if you need any more help. Best to just pick a random paragraph or dialogue or two just to do a cursory review and take it from there. She doesn't like to speak German but understands it and can read it passably.

The cousins lived in Santa Barbara. (If you know someone who is Italian from Santa Barbara, that person is probably related to me :) ). Emilio's daughter & son-in-law owned a vineyard in the Valley. His son passed away this fall, and there is a box of wine in my parents' living room that he made. A grandson went to UC Davis and got a degree in winemaking and went to work for Harry & David. Another piece of family lore is that Emilio's daughter-in-law Joanne made incredibly good panettone, and when her son worked for Harry & David they adapted and mass-produced her recipe. It was terrible. Just to make clear -- if you bought H&D panettone and it was terrible, it's not our fault!
Miss Marple

maryd,

Both Anne and I suddenly had other interests. I went on to eventually major in geology, and she took a degree in mathematics, I believe.

Which just goes to show you that you can be suckered even if you are smart. The last I heard of Mr. Eaton he was selling used cars.

This was the beginning of my poor choices in men, culminating in the latest fiasco.

I think I was born to be single. Were it not for my children and grandchildren, I would rue the day I ever married.

narciso

what does it take to get suspended now, from the Goodell Night League?

Danube on iPad

What class were you at IU, Miss M?

Miss Marple

narciso,

My suspicion is that only membership in a neo-Nazi organization would get you suspended.

That's about the only category that hasn't claimed victimization.

Okay!

Anyone doing anything speical for New Year's Eve beside staying awake to watch the ball drop? In Antwerp, they stay up and listen for the ships to fire off their foghorns at midnight and then make their toast. Its pretty neat to hear hundreds of ships in port sounding off at the same time.

I am thinking about a Southampton version of "piping in the Haggis" by going to the beach and firing up a clambake at midnight with Billy Joel in the background:)

Miss Marple

Danube, I was in the class which would have graduated in 1970.

However, my life took a detour when I married ANOTHER bad apple, my first husband, who deserted me leaving me with my son. So I had to return to school later.

Enough of my pathetic love life, I really didn't mean to bring all of this up.

Here in Indianapolis my auction house has a huge sale New Year's Day which is ALL antiques. Last year I got a signed piece of Lalique for 10 bucks and sold it for $700. I will be there all day long and well into the evening New Year's Day.

Anyone doing anything speical for New Year's Eve beside staying awake to watch the ball drop?

My wife and I will be attending the wedding of a recent West Point grad, home from his station in Europe.

The wedding was scheduled for New Year’s eve because one does not have much time off at that stage in one’s career.

Yesterday, I was with another West Point cadet graduating in May. Good to see our next generation take form.
