Obama was unexpectedly modest back during his Dem primaries victory speech in June 2008 when he proclaimed that "this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow...".
Slow?!? Actually, his ascension has reversed the rise of the seas! OK, a lot of his early supporters are backing away and why should Neptune be any different? But let's be dazzled by science!
A team of researchers reported Wednesday that the ocean did not rise quite as much as previously believed in the 20th century. They proposed a seemingly tiny adjustment that could make a big difference in scientific understanding of the looming problem of sea-level rise.
Instead of rising about six inches over the course of the 20th century, as previous research suggested, the sea actually rose by approximately five inches, the team from Harvard and Rutgers Universities found.
So there you go!

"Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Friday barred local and state police from using federal law to seize cash, cars and other property without evidence that a crime occurred.
Holder’s action represents the most sweeping check on police power to confiscate personal property since the seizures began three decades ago as part of the war on drugs.
Since 2008, thousands of local and state police agencies have made more than 55,000 seizures of cash and property worth $3 billion under a civil asset forfeiture program at the Justice Department called Equitable Sharing."

Here’s what Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback’s supply side economic experiment has wrought: The Republican’s massive tax cuts for the wealthy and businesses will cost the state a projected $5 billion in revenue over seven years; by this summer, legislators must address a $278 million revenue shortfall, which Brownback is looking to fill in part by slashing vital infrastructure spending and reducing contributions to the state’s already underfunded pension plan. Meanwhile, the tax cuts haven’t delivered the economic “shot of adrenaline” Brownback promised. Kansas’ GDP growth lags behind that of other states in the region, its rate of job growth is slower than that of the nation as a whole, and the state’s per-capita income ranking hasn’t changed since the tax cuts were enacted in 2012. Kansas is ascending the national rankings on one measure, however: Last year, it ranked seventh in the nation among states residents left.

Allowing citizens to keep $5B of their own money and having the government come up with cuts of only $278M per year sounds like a home run to me.

It is puzzling to me how an establishment GOPer could think a newbie to the POTUS grind such as Jebster would be a better bet than Mittster. In addition, although Mitt is a familiar figure, he could attack the politics as usual Clinton attempted dynasty a lot more effectively than Jebster could. He might have been a fine Florida Guv, but does the GOP really think that Bush Three will be an effective approach against Clinton Two?

"I'm afraid I know the answer to that."
Me too. I hope Boehner will emphasize two things: (1) Each congressman has a cleat constitutional duty to refrain from funding any measure he honestly believes to be unconstitutional; and (2) over twenty states have cases pending in which the federal judiciary is being asked to decide the issue. The administration would be wise to stop resisting that adjudication.

Exactly, OL. And I just checked the Census: Kansas population growth was 1.4% from 2010 to 2013. Not great, but Missouri's (with a Democrat governor) was 0.9%. Oklahoma is an oil state, so not really comparable.

Is this real or satire?
http://thoughtcatalog.com/tanya-cohen/2015/01/here-is-why-its-time-to-get-tough-on-hate-speech-in-america/
I would vote for satire, however, this is a direction that libtard thought is moving. This is an actual editorial from the U of Chicago Maroon:
http://chicagomaroon.com/2015/01/09/land-of-the-free/
Key Quote:
"We agree with this central idea—that the University must protect open discourse. However, this report lacks clarity on what constitutes “effective and responsible” discourse. The University needs to clearly differentiate hate speech and offensive speech. Hate speech is defined as “speech that offends, threatens, or insults groups, based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or other traits,” according to the American Bar Association. The report’s failure to clearly define hate speech implies that all speech short of unlawful harassment is acceptable, no matter how vile or cruel. While it is important for students to challenge each other’s opinions, this should not come at the expense of students’ mental well-being or safety."
Within 10 years this will be dogma within the Democrat Party.
Makes me think of this lyric from Donald Fagan's I.G.Y.:
"On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(More leisure for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young"

Some counterpoint from Steely Dan;
THIRD WORLD MAN
Johnny's playroom
Is a bunker filled with sand
He's become a third world man
Smoky Sunday
He's been mobilized since dawn
Now he's crouching on the lawn
He's a third world man
Soon you'll throw down your disguise
We'll see behind those bright eyes
By and by
When the sidewalks are safe
For the little guy
I saw the fireworks
I believed that I was dreaming
Till the neighbors came out screaming
He's a third world man
Soon you'll throw down your disguise
We'll see behind those bright eyes
By and by
When the sidewalks are safe
For the little guys
When he's crying out
I just sing that Ghana Rondo
E l'era del terzo mondo
He's a third world man

Old Lurker; Gird your loins, Dude...
"In a stark turnaround, the Republican called for higher taxes on cigarettes and liquor as part of his annual budget while proposing to make future tax cuts contingent on revenue projections.
Story Continued Below
Brownback’s cuts to a number of state taxes in 2012 failed to boost the economy like he had hoped, triggering a backlash when the huge budget shortfall that resulted forced major decreases in government services. His state’s credit rating was lowered, and Brownback nearly lost his job in the November elections.
Critics of the tax cuts enjoyed a told-you-so moment Friday, calling Brownback’s reversal inevitable.
“We’ve seen this exploding budget gap, and this year, after three years of this experience, the recognition is they have to put a halt on these tax cuts,” said Meg Wiehe, state policy director at the liberal-leaning Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.
Brownback, a former senator whose name is sometimes bandied about for a possible presidential run, acknowledged the state’s fragile fiscal situation.
“My budget proposal recognizes that the current budget trajectory is unsustainable and that difficult solutions are required by state law as well as by fiscal prudence,” Brownback said in releasing his two-year budget.
But he said this week that he would stick with his plans to phase out the state’s income tax. “We will continue our march to zero income taxes,” the governor said Thursday in his State of the State address. “States with no income tax consistently grow faster than those with high income taxes.”
Critics have been howling for the past year, after the tax cuts did not deliver the economic growth promised. The shortfall fueled a debate over some conservative claims that tax cuts can pay for themselves.

Marriage is between a man & a woman.
If some fools try to redefine the word, it will not make it so.
Everyone in the USA CAN get married.

Troubling that they would even take this case, though I guess it only requires four justices. I guess at least four justices haven't learned the lesson from Roe v Wade that if the Constitution is silent, it should be left to the states or the people.
Maybe Roberts will declare it to be a tax.
