I've read that Obama said all of those things about the oceans, plus that he had fake Greek columns on his stage somewhere, but I've always thought 'surely he didn't or maybe people are exaggerating or no one with common sense would say things like that or be that blindly conceited--how could the world take this man seriously. (Rhetorical, so I'm not using a question mark.) Anyway, I know the truth prevails at jom, but did he really say that? :) Still makes me shake my head. I remain puzzled. :)

"the Executive action jives with your understanding of the ConstiTution."

No it doesn't. But to suggest that a lawful action taken by the Mexican government, which may or may not aid Obama in his arguably extra-legal actions, contravenes some intention of the founders is just plain stupid.

I read the only link you had posted at the time I pointed out how stupid your JATFI comment woas. If you believe you hakve a link to something suggesting that the Founders had any intention one way or another about some lawful action of a future Mexican government, I'd be happy to read it.
But you don't, and they didn't.

I have very patiently and politely explained to you just what the framers of the Constitution were undertaking to do. You never dispute that explanation--it is beyond dispute--but you also never acknowledge, or even indicate an understanding of it. Instead, you continue in your willful ignorance to assert that almost any untoward event is contrary to the intent of the Founders.

It's dumb.

One of the reasons they had to fabricate this sea level rise alarm with this new paper is that over the very short term, 2-3 years, there has been somewhat of a diminution in the rate of rise of sea level.

So, perhaps Obama has connections that suggest to him that he does have the power to slow sea level rise, and heal the earth.

Heh, those are private neuronal connections.

I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment

June 3, 2008 was the moment. Probably some time around 10 or 11 pm central time that the moment arrived.

It was defeating Hillary and securing the Dem nomination that proved decisive in our nation beginning to finally* provide care for the sick and jobs for the jobless, our planet to miraculously* begin healing and all that.

Hillary is who was in the way of these things.

Keep her away from the nomination in 2016, Dems -- don't undo all those great things Obama managed to accomplish back in 2008.

Jeff Dobbs

By the way - remember that the lines immediately preceding the oceans receding and planet healing stuff was Obama saying that he was accepting the nomination with "profound humility".

"Look, I don't want to brag or anything, being so humble and all, but my humility is pretty damn awesome."

Captain Hate

Yes, when you are the only person talking about your humility, you aren't humble. It is a trait which is best evaluated by others.

Janet

Ya know...looking up the quote & the columns makes me remember how many speeches this joker was giving & how the MFM ADORED him.
They covered every speech like he already WAS the POTUS.

The oceans quote was from a speech after the Minnesota primary (3 June 2008) when I guess he knew he had the nomination.

The columns were for the official nomination acceptance speech in Aug. 2008 in Denver's stadium.
They moved his acceptance speech outside to the stadium to make it grander.

The MFM were wetting themselves with love for Obama.
When President Bush spoke or McCain or Palin, they attacked like rabid dogs if, IF they even covered it...when Obama spoke they drooled & analyzed the wonderfulness of his every word.

Miss Marple

Good morniing!

In 2010, a police search of the computers of Cherif Kouachi and Amedy Coulibaly revealed traces of child porn images the two men had stored and later erased, French media reported.

Detectives found five child porn photos on Coulibaly's laptop and another 37 on Kouachi's PC. Kouachi's stash included sickening pictures of young boys and girls involved in sexual acts with adults, Le Canard Enchaine newspaper reported.

However, last week's attacks shed a new light on the case, with some analysts suggesting that rather than being paedophiles, the gunmen might have used child porn websites as a secure means of communication to share other information.

If the Yellen Hobbit keeps her nerve, and begins 25 basis point rate increases in June, it will be a third step back to central bank and monetary sanity. Ending QE, the SNB refusing to artificially keep the Franc low based on the Euro peg, and a 25basis pt rise are a signal to the Japanese, the Chinese and ECB that we are allowing market forces to decide rates and that the USA Dollar is in fact money, and not some meaningless statistical measure of credit. If Yellen does the right thing, USA consumers will benefit greatly, credit will be more available to business and our enemies, Venezuela, the Mullahs and Putin will be screwed, and our friends the UK and India will be rewarded, and our trading partner China will profit as well, and maybe be less hostile as they can tell Putin to pound sand and drink his oil and suck on his gas. One other thing, by ending this monetary charade, the Fed will put the onus of macro fiscal stimulus on the Congress where it belongs. The Congress has a few huge big picture things to explain to LiVs, the need to cut regs, cut tax rates, stop borrowing, repeal ObummerCare mandates, and stop open borders to protect american born workers. Re; the Swiss franc cap easing....

"This simple chart shows how the US Fed Quantitative Easing (QE) and Twist programmes of dollar creation are almost perfectly correlated to the US WTI crude oil benchmark price: itself linked to the Brent/BFOE benchmark oil price.

It is clear that when the QE transfusion ended in late 2014 the US financial bubble in crude oil prices collapsed - as I predicted it would. Another macro-economic effect has been that since the US dollar bleeding continued, the dollar transfusion must necessarily come from somewhere else. We therefore see the dollar exchange rate strengthening as dollars drain out of US creditor nations causing dollar shortages."

People of both parties seem to go into politics at all levels primarily to get access to the trough.

I am angry that the cle program on Economic Development in December neglected to point out that the mayor listed as a speaker in the program also worked for the law firm which had provided an earlier speaker. The extent of his conflicts of interest would have been far easier to trace as well as his wife's, who also now works for a non-profit that relies on public, corporate, and foundation grants. He used to head the state Rep Party and be in the legislature.

Rather pertinent to a law firm trying to grow its bond practice. Very frustrating as a taxpayer though as the city decides it should build out the city center, decide what businesses should go where, and break into Executive Session anytime too many inquiries occur on all the dealings.

Yes CH. The presenters started stammering when I pointed out that taxpayers in North Fulton and Dekalb were not being told that becoming a city shifts the exposure on bonds from 1 mill to 3 mills.

Pruden's article focuses on reasons why he thinks Hillary will lose. None of those reasons have any reasonable expectation of deterring her. Pruden mentions the rigors of a campaign on a 67 year old woman. Hillary will deal with it. Reagan was a similar age during the '79-'80 campaign.

I think Pruden is engaging in wishful thinking. Hillary is the favorite. Against Jeb Bush, she's a solid favorite. Against Mitt Romney, she's a slight favorite (Romney's experience in running gives him a significant advantage over JB). Against Scott Walker, she's a favorite and is more likely to reach 54 or 55 percent, but she is also more likely to lose. Walker is a wild card because he has never run for POTUS, but he is a good one to bet on.

Ben

I would appreciate your thoughts, Thomas. This was my query to you yesterday.

Thomas Collins

Pruden's scoffing at Hillary's ability to win over men is borderline silly. Hillary will appeal to blue collar men and Baby Boomer white collar men whose votes could tip battleground states to her. I think she'll also do OK with Pajama Boy type men.

Hillary doesn't look good as a POTUS candidate until one compares her with the other hopefuls, the most solid of which, such as Walker, have no prior experience running for POTUS.

NKvirusedand back

From a Hoover Fellow, and I agree with this. 2009-2014 was the worst Fed policy period since Miller's 'full employment' policies. Very similar periods in fact, in both cases, the Fed was trying to use monetary policy to create jobs, when the problem was lousy fiscal policy from Carter/Obummer and the Dem Congress. Reagan and Volcker bailed us out of that terrible Miller Fed policy, and then Greenspan was a fine tuning maestro for almost 20 years. Many things fouled the Greenspan fine tuning, but bottom line the 09-10 Barry/Harry/Nancy orgy of stupidity continues to be a drag on the USA economy. http://www.hoover.org/research/three-strikes-against-fed

NKvirusedand back

ThomasC OTOH, Hillary's one POTUS run was epic fail. She was a big meh for Dem primary voters and Axelrod's gang just destroyed her crew.

Miss Marple

The wild card to me with Hillary is her health. Yes, Reagan was the same age, but he rode horses and chopped wood for exercise.

Hillary doesn't do that type of thing at all. I have never seen one article about her even doing yoga, let alone being on a treadmill or anything like that.

I am Hillary's age, and I do my own housework, gardening, dog-walking and toting of heavy boxes for my business, and I keep my weight down.

I would be able to embark on a campaign, but after about three weeks of long plane rides, standing on my feet greeting voters, long meetings and such, I would be pretty tired, if not exhausted. I would start to make mistakes, like forgetting names or snapping at reporters. I might even break down in tears.

So she might think she can do this, and she will start out with great energy and fanfare. But it won't end well.

Thomas Collins

Ben, if campaign finance limits were removed, candidates with little financial support but different ideas would have a better chance. Let's say you wanted to run for office on a platform based on Professor Ward's anarchist web site (I am being agnostic on the question of whether you are Professor Ward). Under the current campaign finance regime, you'd need to find effective bundlers and movers and shakers to finance your efforts. If government gets even more influence over campaign finance, you'd need influencers to suck up to bureaucrats. On the other hand, under the TC let the money flow framework, if you could convince, say, a Mott family member to bankroll you, you'd be off and running!
