Not exactly a surprise, but:
Police Investigation Clears Fraternity At The Center Of The Controversial Rolling Stone Article
A police investigation into the University of Virginia chapter of Phi Kappa Psi has "has not revealed any substantive basis to confirm" gang-rape allegations raised in a controversial Rolling Stone feature on the school last November, the university announced Monday.
The Cavalier Daily has more. And Ashe Schow reports that the investigation into what, if anything happened is ongoing.

" 'it's 1955 again'"
In 1955 the US TFR was around 3.3, it's sliding from 1.8 today. I'd take boring in a heartbeat but an adviser would have to show me hole cards supporting the premise. Conrad Black made an egregious error in attributing anything but "lying back and thinking of Mecca" to the Saudis wrt their reaction to the Peak Oil Glut.
The effects of the illusion of economic growth fostered by the QE financed commodities schemes are going to have to be absorbed before things can get to boring.

1. He should have known this was a big deal from watching TV or talking to Hollande (as they REPEATEDLY told us).
2. Why didn't Eric Holder go? He was right there! (And the OTHER people he met with went!)
3. This reminds me of another incident in which "low level staffers in the IRS Cincinnati office" were the culprits, which as we now, was a lie.

Miss Marple,
The President of the United States did not attend the free speech rally in Paris because he does not believe in free speech. His nonattendance is wholly in keeping with his complete lack of identifiable principles and completely consonant with the complete absence of ethical foundation which marks his pathetic existence.

I think I have figured out why no top level Administration officials went. Obama told them that if he wasn't going, no one goes. Yes, his ego is that out of control.
The Euros, the Japanese and even the Chinese have been running the money presses 24/7. We eased off a little bit, but in fact the speedometer is at 100 instead of 120.
All of that paper is chasing assets and gold, silver, and now oil have lost their attractiveness. Contraindicational to say the least. Global demand for oil will resume, but this economic war is about market share and control.
Russia and Iran will be badly hurt, but we can simply slow down production, build Keystone XL in a leisurely fashion, and be ready when demand picks up again. That would be the sensible play.
A number of countries no longer trust the Fed, including Germany, and have removed their gold from the NY vault. Hmmmm?
Somewhere, someone is going to blink. The Grexit is still possible and Italy has now risen up as another impending crisis. The news is that the ECB is printing another 4.5 trillion Euros or so.
Over in China they are dealing with the same RE crisis and Bank of America is predicting "lethal" damage to the economy from deflation, deleveraging, and defaults. The good news is that it's the same B of A that predicted the economy was in great shape in July or 2007.
So all of that paper is chasing assets and the equities markets are crazy valued. Art is selling for huge numbers. Anywhere to put an asset right now. It is a game of musical chairs that has been going on since '07.
Remember, we have had 7 years of stimulus now with very weak recovery. Economic cycles are usually between 7-10 years. It is an artificial bubble the like of which has never been seen.

who's up for building light rail along 42nd street in Mahattan, river to river?
A few years ago, after Broadway was closed off and made into a pedestrian mall (based on the preposterous idea that traffic flow would improve), I remember reading that there had specific benchmarks for judging whether the experiment was a success. Those benchmarks were not met or even approached. So of course the mall was scuttled and traffic reintroduced, right? No, the city tossed aside the failure and kept the mall anyway.

I don't know that it's the left specifically, Miss M, but it's the inevitable consequence of vesting that much power in a small oligarchy (the IOC), and the inevitable cronyism and corruption that results. The whole enterprise is rotten to the core.

"Nancy Pelosi has nominated Congressman Andre Carson (black and a Muslim)to the Intelligence Committee."
Miss Marple - According to several news accounts, Nancy Pelosi was willing to make Alcee Hastings -- who had been impeached and removed from his position as a federal judge by a Democratic Congress -- chairman of the Intelligence Committee.
Pelosi was not willing to have Jane Harman, who was well qualified, be the chair.
(I have no idea why Pelosi and Harman didn't get along. What I have read about their differences makes it sound as if they had a silly, high school style, feud, but I can't help thinking that part of it was that Pelosi thought that Harman would sometimes put national interest ahead of immediate political gain.)
That Alcee Hastings choice was too much even for the NYT.

"Thousands of leaks"
As far back as 2001, Turnpike Authority officials and contractors knew of thousands of leaks in ceiling and wall fissures, extensive water damage to steel supports and fireproofing systems, and overloaded drainage systems.[38] A $10 million contract, signed off as a cost overrun, was used to repair these leaks. Many of the leaks were a result of Modern Continental and other subcontractors failing to remove gravel and other debris before pouring concrete. This information was not made public; engineers at MIT (volunteer students and professors) performed several experiments and found serious problems with the tunnel.[39]
On September 15, 2004, a major leak in the Interstate 93 north tunnel forced the closure of the tunnel while repairs were conducted. This also forced the Turnpike Authority to release information regarding its non-disclosure of prior leaks. A follow-up reported on "extensive" leaks that were more severe than state authorities had previously acknowledged. The report went on to state that the $14.6 billion tunnel system was riddled with more than 400 leaks. A Boston Globe report, however, countered that by stating there were nearly 700 leaks in a single 1,000-foot (300 m) section of tunnel beneath South Station. Turnpike officials also stated that the number of leaks being investigated was down from 1,000 to 500.[39]
The problem of leaks is further aggravated by the fact that many of them involve corrosive salt water. This is caused by the proximity of Boston Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean, causing a mix of salt and fresh water leaks in the tunnel. The situation is made worse by road salt spread in the tunnel to melt ice during freezing weather, or brought in by vehicles passing through.[40] Salt water and salt spray are well-known issues that must be dealt with in any marine environment. It has been reported that "hundreds of thousands of gallons of salt water are pumped out monthly" in the Big Dig, and a map has been prepared showing "hot spots" where water leakage is especially serious.[41] Salt-accelerated corrosion has caused ceiling light fixtures to fail (see below), but can also cause rapid deterioration of embedded rebar and other structural steel reinforcements holding the tunnel walls and ceiling in place.[40]
Good job, engineers.

Obama: "With the Twitter account, uhhh, that was uhhh hacked by uhhh Islamist, uhhh Jihadist sympathizers yesterday, uhhh it just goes to show how much more work we need to do."
So here's my question. Why can Obama unashamedly call them "Islamist Jihadists" when they hack twitter accounts, but he is unable to call them "Islamist Jihadists" when they are beheading and mass murdering and screaming Alahu Akbar at the top of their lungs while doing so?

"religious Muslims" sounds good. The ones who actually believe what the q'u''ra'n & hadith teach.

My firm was counsel to the LAOOC and I was pretty close to the thing. I dodn't recall any instances of corruption at all.

daddy, my daddy,
You are clearly too smart to have gone to UNC. Excellent take. And, an exact quote.
Miami comes to Durham tonight. The Devils might be angry.

You don't have to be smart to recognize rank hypocrisy, Guss..

or "followers of insane Mohammad" or "Mohammad Freaks" ("Jesus Freaks" was a popular term back in the day)
or "q'u''ra'n thumpers"

"Islamist" is mincing.
What's the Christian analog? Christianist?
The whole thing would be ridiculous if not for the fact that identifying the enemy is important.
How about "Muslim supremacists?"

"Didn't Ben say something about not listening to the minority"
I have greater problems with a tyrannical majority.

Where do you get your numbers on the "tyrannical" percentages of the Muslim world?

How about "Muslim supremacists?"
that's good...it folds in the religious & political components of Islam.

daddy, I can knit that pink sweater for you if you really want it.
Clarice,
This is the outfit that I think really says "daddy."
I can't imagine a better set of clothing for a guy who hates yanking his trou' up and down when going to the bathroom. Can you have it ready by tomorrow afternoon when I have to go to work?
