Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

while he was what 6,7, and 8 years old.

You should read the hogwash in "Dreams..." where he reminisces on his thoughts & conversations when he was 6 or 7. Absolute hooey.

Indeed. He needed George Stephanopoulos to prompt him as to what his actual faith is ... weird. How time flys!

I'd hardly call Hate Whitey United Christian, but in Chicago, it served its purpose.

Janet - I wish my family had a poncho

Dreams p. 31 (in my copy)

"When my mother sat me down one day to tell me that Lolo had proposed and wanted us to move with him to a faraway place, I wasn't surprised and expressed no objections. I did ask her if she loved him - I had been around long enough to know such things were important. My mother's chin trembled, as it still does when she's fighting back tears, and she pulled me into a long hug that made me feel very brave, although I wasn't sure why."

Supposedly this was when Obama was 5 or 6.

"Tell me and others here that you are not defending the editorial honesty of the WaPo?"

I am not deofending the validity of their opinions, most of which are offensive to me. What I do say is that they simply cannot--and do not--make false factual statements that can be readily checked.

Just about to take the first sip of Tito's.

rich@gmu

and I must have missed the comment but i didn't see anything above claiming he was a muslim (the whole program from Shahada to Hajj, if he were Sunni, Shia is a bit different ...). I wouldn't think it would be controversial to claim he is overly sympathetic to them ...

GMax

there are schools named after St Francis of Assisi that are not Catholic run institutions?

jimmyk on iPhone

He may not be Muslim, but someone needs to ask him how he presumes to speak authoritatively on Islam.

Danube on iPad

"he attended a Catholic school in Indonesia and GOe are fine with that."

Speaking only for myself, I'm neither fine with it or not fine with it. I simply believe it is a fact, and a trivially unimportant one at that.

It has been my experience--some of it a bit unpleasant--that when you want to level a charge of some kind against someone you loathe, it is especially important to get the facts straight, otherwise you discredit yourself. Others seem to feel almost the reverse: the more you loathe the man, the more reckless you can be.

This is a topic that can easily be examined with Google. Look into it for yourself, and draw your own conclusions. I see no point in regurgitating it here any further.

rich@gmu

weird here is a big think piece on some WaPo lies coordinated with the White House during the 2012 campaign ...

http://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2012/06/23/wapo-obama-coordinate-outsourcing-attack/

they usually front page anything they get from a leftist group say on the environment (although with all the snow they'd probably shy away from a global warming story tomorrow) or economics or pretty mush whatever line the administration wants them to take ...

Miss Marple

It is as I said a few days ago; he isn't a full-fledged Muslim, but he aspires to be and has adopted many of their attitudes and is overly sympathetic to them.

In fact, the guy is a huge ball of mommy and daddy issues, to-wit:

1. I think he really liked Soetero, and when the mother got in an argument with him because he was working with petroleum businesses, Obama internalized that as "Oil Companies are evil."

2. I think he was fairly happy in Indonesia, so abruptly being sent back to the States gave him a huge and uninformed nostalgia for Islam.

3.His constant disruption in his childhood has made him unable to form close friendships (note how many friends he has thrown under the bus) and he has no sense of loyalty.

4. Due to his resentment of his mother and her abandonment of him, he has real issues with women.

5. He has built up a romantic figure of his father, who he never knew, and is attempting to please his idea of his father, hence the hatred OF Britain (colonial) and fascination with Marxism.

All of this is pretty much arm-chair pschoanalysis, but his book is full of veiled hints of this type of thinking.

An example of this in another president would be George Bush's love of Midland Texas, which he left to go to Andover when he was in grade school. I always thought the cook-outs and T-ball events at the White House were an effort to give American kids what he felt was wonderful about his childhood. Bush's childhood nostalgia wasn't particularly harmful, though. Obama's is flat-out dangerous.

Furthrmore, I would bet cash money the Muslim Brotherhood has figured this out and presents everything to him in phrases guaranteed to sucker him into their preferred foreign policy.

Finally, I know this is all speculation, but I think it makes sense.

Jane on Ipad

I'm with Dot and Eric, I don't really give a shit. Whatever Obama is, he certainly is not religious. I assume he's sympathetic to Islam because given his limited experience he is absolutely sure he is an expert, and because ValJar tells him to be.

At this point I think he's simply opting for revenge on republicans, Jews, Christians and white people, in that order.

rich@gmu

and speak of the devil ...

Here is the WaPo casting Gov. Walker's comments in the worst possible light when he a. explained to the reporter, in simple English, what he meant and b. had his press spokesperson explain in simple English to the WaPo what he meant.

He is a quote from the Governor: “To me, this is a classic example of why people hate Washington and, increasingly, they dislike the press,” he said. “The things they care about don’t even remotely come close to what you’re asking about.”

ought to be laser etched into the foreheads of every reporter in DC.

So a frontpage non story to keep the 2 minute hate against Unperson Giuliani, and by extension Gov. Walker, going ...

Rick Ballard

Rich,

I suppose one formulation would be that Obama loves America just like Reverend God Damn America Wright did on the Sundays when he had Nation of Islam's Calypso Louie in to share his faith journey with the congregation of Hate Whitey United.

It's easier for me to stick with clueless, classless buffoon who parrots his indoctrinators without ever thinking.

Dispite all the evidence he is a some kind of secular prince, I stil go that he is Muzzie to his core. His time at Wright's church of hate was a charade. He in all is affectations and actions shows what he is. I spent too much time in Ilsamic society to not no when I am in the presence of a true believer but then I am also a minority among the GOPe here.

Good night all. And pray for your country and self.

Miss Marple

Jack,

The only reason I don't think he is a full-fledged Muslim is that I don't think he had an opportunity to actually join.

Unless on that trip to Pakistan...

Well, maybe YOU are right!

Threadkiller

Google has resolved "Obama is not a Muslim."

The WaPo and the Chicago Tribune presented a "preponderance" of "substantial evidence."

People who don't care about the topic care enough to defend against the topic.

Frau Steingehirn

I'll stick Father Pfleger in there with Calypso and Wright. Why he was not burned in effigy for speaking "black" in church is beyond me. Did he think the black Chicago members of his parish or Rev. Wright's would not be able to understand him otherwise?

Jack is Back!

MM,

Unlike DoT, who by the way I repsect, I have lived over 3 years in severe Islamic so-called society. He has all the tendency and projection of a Muslim. I know no one wants to accept that but that is what it is.

TK, on the externalities, Obama has said he's a Christian by choice, and he came to that posture even though his upbringing wasn't particularly religious. Whether he said that for show and internally and to really intimate friends he professes Islam is tough to know. My guess is that whatever he says to himself he is, his religious center of gravity is liberation theology. Whether it's a form of Muslim or Christian liberation theology, it's downright dangerous to the country to have a true believing liberation theologist in the White House, whether or not he thinks he's a Christian or Muslim.

Jack is Back!

Did I say Nytol? if not then saap lekker. tots mogen.

Miss Marple

Jack,

You on't see this until the morning, but I have been thinking and looking at Obama's odd reactions to things, his disassociation from things which would cause normal people to recoil in horror (like beheadings) I think I will defer to your experience.

I have 2 friends (not on the internet much) who are convinced of it because of their associations with Muslim students in college.

So, I will go with your opinion.

Miss Marple

Frau,

I had put Father Pfleiger out of my mind, but you brought my horror of his blackspeak back.

That guy should have been defrocked. Why the Archdiocese didn't do it, I am at a loss.

Horrible person, and very un-Christian.

Danube on iPad

"People who don't care about the topic care enough to defend against the topic."

I emphatically do not care about the topic, but am just as emphatically resolute in attempting to discredit what I believe to be loony, irrelevant and unsubstantiated claims about the topic.

To be more specific: I don't give a shit where he went to grade school, but think it is dumb to make false claims about it. I don't give a shit about his religion, but think it is dumb to speculate about it. I don't give a shit about his place of birth, but think it is dumb to make stupid claims about the "forgery" of his birth certificate. I don't give a shit about the "two-parent" citizenship theory, but think it is dumb to raise the issue endlessly.

The man has been president for six years, mand has harmed the country and its civilzation immeasurably. That is a matter for very serious discussion. The loony issues I mentioned above are not. I care enough about the distractions they interpose to expose them for what they are.

By the way, Google is simply a search engine. It can lead you to all sorts of commentary, including commentary at World Net Daily, the Birther Report and Leo Gonofrio. Read all the commentary you want, and decide what weight you will give to each.

Danube on iPad

"Jeremiah Wright Thinks Barack Obama May Still Be A Muslim"

An even more reliable source than Google.

Miss Marple

Danube,

Why should I believe your opinion more than Jack's, who lived in Indonesia? Why should I believe you more than my friends, who knew Muslims in school?

There are a lot of people in this country, whether through confusion, personal experience, or looking at his actions, who believe Obama is a Muslim.

Explain to me why the only prayers at his "anti-violent extremism" seminar were Muslim prayers. Explain to me why he cotinually attacks Christians and Jews, but always supports Muslims.

Yes, it is a side issue, but calling people who are suspicious "loony" doesn't advance the discussion.

Sue

I think Obama is an atheist, like his mama and daddy.

Ignatz

Google isn't a source.

Sue

His sister is Budhist.

Jane on Ipad

We all know Obama lies constantly, so why would you care if he is Muslim or not? He's a horrible president. Period. His religion makes no difference. You wouldn't be any happier with an Irish Catholic with the same views.

Thomas Collins

Speaking of atheists, agnostics and true believers, Sue, what's your prediction for the Rangers this year? Are you an atheist (70-92), agnostic (81-81) or true believer (102-60)?

Thomas Collins

Speaking of atheists, agnostics and true believers, Sue, what's your prediction for the Rangers this year? Are you an atheist (70-92), agnostic (81-81) or true believer (102-60)?

Ignatz

I sincerely doubt a narcissist is capable of the faith in someone else that would constitute being a believer of any kind.
He's a muslim sympathizer and, as TC notes, a liberation theology sympathizer.

He sympathizes with anything hostile to traditional American institutions and values.

Sue

Agnostic.

exdemocrat

DoT - I understand where you're coming from, and agree that claims one is unable to substantiate must be made with care to avoid losing credibility on other claims.
But I think the reason these particular claims are not lightly to be ignored is because of their capacity to wake the population up to the seriousness of the situation in ways that, say, the admin's flouting of the constitution just don't, except for policy-wonks like us here.
People are looking for a game-changer because the odds are great and the opposition formidable.

exdemocrat

Rick Ballard

I feel it more productive to try and identify the proper taxonomic reference for Hilary. Chordata for sure but mammalia or reptilia?

Jane on Ipad

Exdem,

The population is not going to wake up because they think Obama is a Muslim. They may stir because he's an utter failure and a liar, but the Muslim thing will just make them scream "racist" which is exactly what they want.

Jane on Ipad

TC are you getting snow? I can already hear the plows.

sbwaters

When it comes to whether Obama is a Christian, an atheist, or a Muslim, in my considered opinion, he is an assh*le.

Threadkiller

We should not make an argument that results in the left calling the right "racist."

We should only pick fair fights.

Frau Steingehirn

"That guy should have been defrocked. Why the Archdiocese didn't do it, I am at a loss."

IMO Pfleger has/had friends in high places and I don't mean religious high places. I'm guessing it's the Chicago Way. He apologized for *something* and that was good enough. His activism included programs not found in the OT or NT: mainly shooting baskets instead of guns which the good father hates. I have not read about any converts he has made.

It pleased me that Pope Benedict went after the liberation theology crowd and gave Küng a chance to devote himself to his "Beyond Religion" institute (actual name Foundation for a Global Ethic).

Carol_Herman

China had the problem. It was Mao who said it takes 100 Chinese peasants to support one "intellectual." Yeah. He killed lots of them.

But Mao UNIFIED CHINA! It had never been done. Instead, China was controlled by about 5 "leading" families. The war lords had divvied up the country between themselves. (And, yes, Mao was a war lord, too.)

During WW2, and China was a backwater, we were shipping supplies into China (under General Chennault). The supplies took an interesting route. Because they were off-loaded into Iran. Which had a single railroad track (so trains on it could go either way). And, then? Thru Burma? By the time the supplies reached China ... American soldiers had to ride with the convoys. Because the war lords stole everything in sight!

It was these supplies that gave Mao the opportunity to pull the rug out from under the 4 other war lords.

Mao had no intention of building universities! He got the mass of the people behind him, no question.

Yeah, Nixon went to China. But nobody expected China to reach beyond anything but rural peasantry. They had no copper wiring dug all around, which would have given them telephones. And, communications.

Alas, along came satellites. None of the "old fashioned stuff" was even needed.

Now, will cell technology you can enter China at one end, and use the same phone throughout the country! (You can't do that in India!) In other places local areas belong to the local thieves.

Nixon didn't change China. Technology did! (And, now?) Well, China has universities.

Miss Marple

Frau,

I sure miss Pope Benedict.

Well, the ways of the Spirit are mysterious, so I will have to be patient.

But that Father Pfleiger was a bad apple, in my opinion.

Danube on iPad

Iggy, it was TK who suggested Google was a source. I pointed out that it is merely a search engine. Then I alluded to it as a source in comparison to Jeremiah Wright solely for the purpose of gentle mockery.

I'm an agnostic with the Red Sox this year, Sue, with a small tilt toward atheism. 80-82.

Danube on iPad

Lets's do a fun thought experiment. Let's imagine tha tomorrow God comes down--God, in every form in which people believe in him--and says the following:

"1. Barack Obama was not born on U.S. soil.

2. Barack Obama is not a natural born citizen.

3. Barack Obama went to a Muslim school.

4. Barack Obama is a Muslim.

5. The pdf of of Barack Obama's birthbcertificate is a forgery."

What would happen in the next two years?

Same question if God only announced items 1 through 4. Same if only 1 through 3.

It's Nick Colasanto; Coach Ernie Pantusso from Cheers twenty years earlier playing, what else, a bartender.

Rick Ballard

Dunno, I can't see it as bad thing when Progressive Fascists are forced to defend a black racist Mahometan commie as their leader. While it makes no difference wrt BOzo himself, it does make a difference in perception of the Progressive Fascist Party.

There's something a bit Alinskyite in the tactic but the Progressive Fascists have certainly earned a bit of turnabout.

Brian Williams would say he rode down with Him.
Sue and TC would give up their agnosticism.

Frau Acatholica

Miss Marple - The Anchoress looks at Pope Benedict as the teacher pope which I like.

We get the pope we need. Saint John Paul was the re-awakening dramatist, Papa Benedict the necessary teacher, this pope, Francis, is the missionary — and we need a missionary pope, because, whether we realize it or not, the 21st century will call us to be once more the missional church we had more-or-less ceased to be. And we’re going to be missioning in a concrete jungle, full of people who have heard the name of Jesus a million times, but have yet to meet him, and must do so in us.

Sue
