strawman- even more accurate to say, that Iraqi Freedom merely continued the 8 year Clinton policy of using military force to punish Sadaam's truce violations, with more energetic and effective means. FDR, Clinton and GWB all used military power to protect americans and american interests. FDR and GWB merely did it more effectively than Clinton.

NPR "Ombudsman":

I do not know if American courts would find much of what Charlie Hebdo does to be hate speech unprotected by the Constitution, but I know—hope?—that most Americans would. It is one thing to lampoon popes, imams, rabbis and other temporal religious leaders of this world; it is quite another to make fun, in often nasty ways, of their prophets and gods. The NPR editors were right not to reprint any of the images.

That's a pretty lofty title for an idiot.

Someone posted a couple of days ago that cartoon with Cronkite ("That's the way it is) and Williams ("That's the way I thought I remembered it"). Cronkite's lies were bigger and more consequential, yet somehow he is still held up as a paragon of integrity.

Old Lurker

James "Some people who just control enormous amounts of wealth"

See, that phrase speaks volumes. "Just controlling" is a whole lot different than "Created and Earned" and implies a colonial "we arrived on your shores and with our weapons took control of the gold buried in them thar hills".

It is just part of the "you didn't earn that" logic, and of course the second part of the quote mimics the famous Hillary Clinton's "we're going to TAKE those profits and invest them in..."

Have I mentioned that I HATE these people? Every one of them.

jimmyk

Since when is "hate speech" not protected by the Constitution? That's news to me.

If hate speech is not protected then you can send me cookies in jail, Jimmy.

NBC in Disarray Over Brian Williams

It’s a rich irony, of course, that the one person who likely could help Williams out of his predicament is someone widely believed to cordially dislike him. Namely Williams’ 74-year-old predecessor, Tom Brokaw, who gracefully stepped aside a decade ago so that Williams could take the anchor chair. Brokaw, who keeps an office at 30 Rock, remains a revered figure at NBC News; he is deeply loyal to the institution and is seen as an ombudsman who strives to uphold standards. An endorsement by Brokaw would measurably improve Williams’ chances of survival. But Brokaw, says a friend, was outraged by the lapse.

“Tom still has power and influence inside of NBC,” says the NBC News veteran. “He will have great leverage if it comes down to Tom’s decision of whether he’s going to save NBC’s ass by saving Brian. But the problem in their relationship is personal; it’s fractured. It’s not unlike what’s happening in Washington between the president and the Republicans. There’s personal animus between Tom and Brian.”

It dates back at least to Election Night 2012, says the NBC News veteran, when Williams made no secret of his wish to exclude Brokaw from the live coverage. “Brian did not want to be in the same studio as Tom. He thought Tom talked too much and was hard of hearing. He showed Tom tremendous disrespect and Tom knew this and knows this... When Tom wants to get something on Nightly, Brian fights that every step of the way.”

Brokaw was characterized by the New York Post last week as “want[ing] Williams’s head on a platter” and “making a lot of noise that a lesser journalist or producer would have been immediately fired or suspended for a false report."

Brokaw quickly denied the Post’s assertion, more or less, though he seems to regard his battered successor with a warmth approximating the temperature of liquid nitrogen. “I have neither suggested nor demanded Brian be fired,” Brokaw said in a statement. “His future is up to Brian and the executives of NBC News.”

Te whole point of this angst over Bibi's speech is that Obama doesn't want to be exposed as a poor leader and a pro-Muslim, terrorist appeaser. I am glad Boehner invited him.

As far as the "breech of protocol" (whined about by the same people who have been trashing protocol for 6 years), if Boehner had tried to clear it with the White House, Obama would have delayed it or flat-out said no.

I am still not convinced that the Administration will allow Netenyahu's plane to land.

The amount of effort the Administration has expended on complaining about this, trying to get Bibi to change his mind, and trashing Netenyahu pretty much tells me all I need to know.

Yes. Andrew Klavan's post touched on that - http://pjmedia.com/andrewklavan/2015/02/08/its-brian-williams-all-the-way-down/

"Mainstream journalists could maintain their authority amidst the noise… if they just didn’t lie all the time. All. The. Time. It’s because they don’t tell the truth that we don’t trust them. They keep silent about what they don’t want us to know (say, the IRS scandal) and overplay what they want us to care about (the Valerie Plame non-scandal). And what Dowd’s column demonstrates is: They don’t even know what the truth is! They all live happily together in a foggy wonderland of left-wing mythology where its ALL Brian Williams under RPG fire all the time."

Strauss-Kahn trial: I didn't know women were prostitutes

LILLE, France – Disgraced former International Monetary Fund boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn told a French court Tuesday that he was unaware that women who participated in orgies at luxury hotels in Paris and Washington D.C. were prostitutes.

The 65-year-old and 13 co-defendants are on trial in this northern French city, accused of aggravated pimping in connection with a sex ring centered on the Hotel Carlton in Lille.

In his first testimony since the trial began Feb. 2, Strauss-Kahn reaffirmed his long-standing defense that he did not know of the "prostitutional character" of the women who took part in his orgies.

Strauss-Kahn's arrival at the courthouse was disrupted by three topless protesters from the provocative group Femen, who were detained by police.

The administration might choose Texas over Israel. Texas as the example of what can be accomplished when intelligence is coupled with imagination and and initiative is much closer to home and therefore much more dangerous to those whose complete lack of any of the attributes becomes more apparent with every sunrise.

Dunno about spending much time on analysis of BOzobabble. Would we examine whether Polly really wanted a cracker?

Analysis of the probable desired outcome of those shaping the real world is more profitable than wondering why Global Village Idiots are spending money defending against a wholly imaginary SkyDragon while the Bear prepares to gnaw off their legs and the Persians move closer to being able to cow the Arabs into paying tribute.

Ext - re your NPR comment. Note also the not-so-subtle deflection by this 'ombudsman' that NPR's decision not to publish is somehow dictated to it by the First Amendment.
Unless NPR is a government actor (?), the First Amendment does no such thing. It is using the FA, in other words, as cover for its own decision - which, of course, is merely an application of its self-imposed, and utterly incoherent, 'hate speech' policy.

Roof at music store with Liberace piano collapses under snow

ROCKLAND, Mass. – A section of roof at a Massachusetts music store that's home to a rhinestone-covered grand piano once owned by Liberace has collapsed under the weight of snow.

Rockland Fire Chief Scott Duffey says a roughly 100-foot-by-100-foot section of the pitched roof fell into the showroom Tuesday morning at the Piano Mill. No one was in the building at the time.

Duffey and store owner Rob Norris say it is unclear if the Liberace piano was damaged. No one is being allowed inside until a structural engineer assesses damage.

The collapse was reported at about 6:30 a.m., though Duffey says neighbors reported hearing a crash at about 1:30 a.m.

Rockland received 29 inches of snow Monday.

Norris says the Liberace piano has 88,888 rhinestones and has been appraised for $500,000.

Diane Foley gave an interview to ABC World News tonight which aired on Feb.7. She is critical of the administration, because efforts to secure the release of her son and other hostages were "too little, too late." The family had some sort of back channel deal with ISIS,because Mrs.Foley mentions hostage negotiators working for their family. Didn't the administration threaten the Foley family if they continued their own negotiations? She said they had credible information about the hostages during 2013 and 2014. Her son was beheaded in August. Mrs. Foley also said that the captors of Kayla Mueller demanded a media blackout. So it sounds like her family was also working on their own for their daughter's release and being threatened. Diane Foley is a lone voice and I admire her courage.

The official treatment of deviants in many places governed by Islamic doctrine is not unlike the official treatment mandated by international socialists in Moscow or national socialists in Berlin. Why would the governing tenet of Islam, "inshallah, baby", be found incompatible with those believing the "march of history" has only one destination?

The current promotion of degradation and deviance by progressive fascists should only be considered as an attempt to make history march a little faster. The destination remains the Moscow of 1935, where deviance will be handled in the traditional progressive manner.

Did he actually say "As a Christian..."?

In 2004, he said: “What I believe, in my faith, is that a man and a woman, when they get married, are performing something before God, and it’s not simply the two persons who are meeting.” He repeated that claim during the 2008 presidential campaign and beyond, citing his understanding of “traditional definitions of marriage.” Those assurances came after Obama had initially backed gay marriage in 1996.

“Obama Misled Nation” is almost a perennial headline–it applies to nearly everything the president does. Yet it is important to be clear about the nature of this particular lie.

Obama did not just pretend not to hold a controversial position. He pretended to hold that view as a matter of his Christian faith. He lied about his most sincere religious convictions–and much of his senior staff lied along with him.
