Away we go. Drudge is headlining this global warming skepticism:
Two weeks ago, under the headline “How we are being tricked by flawed data on global warming”, I wrote about Paul Homewood, who, on his Notalotofpeopleknowthat blog, had checked the published temperature graphs for three weather stations in Paraguay against the temperatures that had originally been recorded. In each instance, the actual trend of 60 years of data had been dramatically reversed, so that a cooling trend was changed to one that showed a marked warming.
I imagine there will be follow-up at Paul Homewood's blog or Watts Up With That.
First OH YEAH

Dorothy Rabinowitz talked about the prayer breakfast remarks on the Journal Editorial Report yesterday. What appalled her the most was the "who are we to judge" tone. Heninger pointed out that, having mentioned the Crusades, he missed a golden opportunity to point out that Christianity subsequently reformed itself to accommodate the modern world, and that that is precisely what is called for now with Islam.

Rick, in the quest for honesty, I am now going to write Pitzer "College."
Clarice, in reading today's Pieces, my mouth was turning down until the clip of Michelle Kowowski paddling her canoe.
Until poll numbers change to the WH's liking, the media are being hounded to flog climate change, date rape, and radical Islam as a non-existential threat. My McClatchy rag is cooperating nicely.

Here's a question for car guys:
You probably have seen pictures of that Detroit worker, James Rpbertsson, who for years was walking to his suburban job, and just now got a car, as a gift, after people heard abut his unusual commute.
(The stories usually credit him with walking 21 miles each day, but I believe he went part of the way by bus. Whatever the actual mileage, he was walking significant distances each day.)
That reminded me of an article in the NYT -- before the cash-for-clunkers program. The car guy who wrote it asked if it was still possible to find a reasonably reliable car for $1000. And he found a few, though it was clear to me that you really wanted to be a car guy, or have the advice of one, to recognize these gems in the rough.
Now I assume that you could not do the same now, that there just aren't any reasonably reliable cars at that price.
So, how much would you have to spend, now? If, for instance, the head of a charity had come and asked you to buy a car for Robertson, how much would you ask for as a budget?
Real car guys probably even have some suggestions for cars and years to look at. (Consumer Reports does something similar, but I don't recall how far down they go.)
Posted by: Jim Miller | February 08, 2015 at 01:51 PM
The man's name is James Robertson, of course.
(I can spell, mostly. But I am proof that years of practice at, for instance, typing, does not always make perfect.)

There's no better measure of the unchanging, overpowering collective stupidity of man than that, regardless of the thousands of examples of foreseeable and preventable, catastrophic, extinction-event wars from history, every generation is full to the brim with idiot leaders who assure us all is well under their gentle wings of favor and paternalistic pats on our noggins even as the approaching asteroid of some horde of savages is already apparent to anyone willing to open their eyes.

JimM,
I don't know the answer to your question. I've always sought to get the most bang for my buck, and that tends to be in high-end (not Ferrari high-end) luxury cars that have been driven by little old ladies on Sunday. Those really do exist, metaphorically, and you can get a lot of car for about $10K.
I bought my 1987 Benz 14 years ago, when it had 90K miles on it, with all service records, for $9K including all taxes. Unless I get into an accident, I expect it to last another 10 years.
But value is a different metric than being inexpensive.

As for existential threats, jihad is certainly one. It has virtually wiped out Christianity in the ME, as we have discussed, and is transforming Europe.
Everyone doesn't need to die in order for the threat to have been existential. What came before it simply needs to cease existing.
Political correctness, which is successfully overturning freedom of speech, is an existential threat.

Could Ayers and Sunstein have successfully promulgated their pernicious idiocy without Krugman's continuously babbling Keynesian fantasy?
I don't discount the damage Ayers has done and continues to do but reality is putting a grim end to the pseudo-Keynesian perpetual motion machine so dearly loved by the progressive fascists. Obama? He's just not that smart. He is certainly uneducated and barely literate.
"who are we to judge?"
"who are we to judge?"
This is an insidious and harmful misapplication of an important religious tenant. When those who rule us demand that we not judge them or their actions or the actions of those who harm us, it is only an invitation to submissiveness.
I am reminded of the slightly impious joke (trigger warning) about the woman caught in the act of adultery. When Jesus suggests that the first stone be thrown by anyone without sin, to His shock a rock comes out of the crowd. Jesus says, “Mother!?”
I offer that apocryphal tale to prove this point. While we may not be morally worthy to judge the sins of others (a proposition that depends heavily on one’s doctrine), we are more than worthy to judge the actions of killers and shiftless, lying politicians. Indeed, such judging is our civic duty.
