The April Fool's mock-up is priceless, hit. Some may not have caught the joke, I fear. ;)

Tonto

April Fool's from The Paris Review. Be sure to click on the links (Goofus and Gallant is my particular favorite).

http://www.theparisreview.org/blog/2015/04/01/the-paris-review-for-young-readers/

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Obama is very smart and he's not a liar.

Jeff Dobbs

(the thing about the mock-up -- i really did type that up as a post in order to create the mock-up. the linked image is a screenshot of the preview page of a real post in draft. a slip of the finger and presto, the post would have been live.)

Eric in Boise

Come on, Ig, you can at least come up with something with a trace of plausibility, can't you? :)

Marlene

Tonto,ha! The editor smoking while reading to the children is very funny!

Tonto

Your mock-up, Hit, inches right up to the line between parody and reality. Does it cross it? Hmmmm.

Arkansas governor calls for changes to religious objection bill criticized as anti-gay

Hutchinson said he wants the Legislature to either recall the bill or pass a follow-up measure to make the proposal more closely mirror a 1993 federal religious freedom law.

Wimp.

RIP, Cynthia Lennon. The discussion about the aging rock stars yesterday had me thinking about the wives and the women. Many accepted the lifestyle,Cynthia was a casualty.

Gallant swears he’ll never commit the Intentional Fallacy.

Highbrow drollery.

Ben

This is no April nonsense...

BBC;

The Palestinians have formally joined the International Criminal Court (ICC), a key step towards being able to pursue Israelis for alleged war crimes.

After a ceremony at The Hague, Foreign Minister Riad Malki said Palestinians sought "justice not vengeance".

But Israel denounced the move as "political, cynical and hypocritical".

The ICC's chief prosecutor launched a "preliminary examination" in January, after the Palestinians signed its founding treaty, the Rome Statute.

Although Israel has not ratified the Rome Statute, its military and civilian leaders could face charges if they are believed to have committed crimes on Palestinian territory.

Palestinian militants will also be open to prosecution."

Their concern is well founded.

One day camera makers will invent a camera with a shutter speed so fast it will be able to capture an image of a woman with her mouth closed.

The RFRA opposition makes the hateful assumption that the citizens of Indiana are bigots and that they would lie about religion to discriminate.

Isn't this hate speech? Imagine impugning an entire state with such malevolence.

Call them out.

http://www.alternet.org/personal-health/ractopamine-meat-additive-your-plate-thats-banned-almost-everywhere-america

"This month, the Center for Food Safety (CFS) and Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) have sued the FDA for withholding records pertaining to ractopamine's safety. According to the lawsuit, in response to the groups' requests for information "documenting, analyzing, or otherwise discussing the physiological, psychological, and/or behavioral effects" of ractopamine, the FDA has only produced 464 pages out of 100,000 pages that exist. Worse, all 464 pages have already been released as part of a reporter's FOIA. Thanks for nothing.

CFS and ALDF have spent over 18 months meeting with the FDA and seeking information about the effects of ractopamine on "target animal or human liver form and function, kidney form and function, thyroid form and function" as well as urethral and prostate effects and "tumor development." The lawsuit says the CFS has "exhausted administrative remedies" and that the FDA has "unlawfully withheld" the materials.

The very least credible website on the planet is "alternet". Every nutjob on the left gets their information there. I know one of the writers - he plagerizes everything, lies constantly, lives off the government and is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Jane, that's a big problem for you guys; ignoring the facts because you don't like the messenger.

lyle

Apparently NOT an April Fool's joke:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/deal-or-no-deal-the-iran-talks-have-borne-fruit/2015/03/31/6c89b71e-d7e4-11e4-8103-fa84725dbf9d_story.html?wprss=rss_opinions

No, I didn't read all of it and you don't need to, either. A quick scan unearthed this gem:

Obama’s careful stewardship of the negotiating coalition

Only a WaPo hack could write this without keeling over in gales of laughter.

Captain Haiku

Late breaking story
Obama caught telling truth!
Sorry, April Fool

Janet

Jane posted this link on the last thread...It is really good - http://donsurber.blogspot.com/2015/04/forget-gays-it-is-religious-freedom.html

henry

the messenger.

lyle

I know HotAir isn't everyone's cup of tea, but you've gotta like their April Fool's schtick.

Janet

a bit -

"
If I were gay, I would watch out. Right after the Jews, repressive regimes go after the gay people.

It happens every time.

That's the history of the world.

This explains why President Obama embraces such an anti-gay regime as Iran.

The Saul Alinsky crowd is using gay people like toilet paper. Gays should demand something for their services as human shields more than a damned wedding cake.

Black and Hispanic people come next. If I were black, I would want something better than the likes of Barack Obama as president. I would want crime-free neighborhoods instead of riots and looting every time a police officer must kill some strung-out petty thief.

This post is not meant to discourage anyone from fighting back. Hell yes, we fight back. With facts.

My purpose is merely to point out the broader picture. This is not about gay rights. This is about ending religious freedom."

lyle

Ugh, henry! That link, while quite informative and instructive, is gut-wrenching.

Rick Ballard

Lyle,

I believe Ignatius provided one of the very best examples of boot licking sycophancy I've ever seen in that piece. His description of the steaming pile left by the Iranians on their Persian Rug as "fruit" applies to every progressive "success" of recent memory.

I'm happy he pointed to Red Witch as the instigator, even as he lauds BOzo's stewardship of the failure.

Ben

The facts... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ractopamine

Henry; Did you know you could edit Wiki? Include your endorsement and hearty recommendation for ractopamine.

lyle

True and scary 1:09 link, Janet.

lyle

So don't eat beef or pork, you sanctimonious twit.

NKvirusedandback

Lyle@ 1:25-- swap out 'twit' with 'schmuck' and I'm with you.

Ben

What is it lyle? Facts got you down?

I am sorry.

MarkO

That John Kerry is one crafty negotiator.

NKvirusedandback

MarkO-- well, it depends what the negotiation objective is, doesn't it.

Miss Marple

But MarkO, he can speak French! And wind surf!

What more do you want from a Secretary of State?

Ben

With the putative reputation as fact-based and reality-tuned, it's funny how you put your sneakers on when facts enter the room.

Buckeye

NK

Got busy with work, just saw your response to my comment this morning.

Kudos for calling out your partner for the obvious.

I am all for individuals acting up. God knows I do, never been very good about keeping my mouth shut.

But politicians need to be more strategic in their actions. While I think Pence's position on the issue and law are sound, the timing and PR suck.

NKvirusedandback

"facts"?... this word you use... I don't think it means what you think it means.

NKvirusedandback

Buckeye.. fair enough. I just don't like blaming the victim of a Lefty political hate meme.

Rick Ballard

NK,

What do the Iranians do with their defective Persian Rug? They didn't buy him to listen to tales told by an idiot and he's definitely a wasting asset. Is it better to destroy him as an object lesson or just try and buy a better Progressive Fascist for the next round?

anonamom

Just in case anyone is aware of any Justina Pelletier "medical kidnapping" type cases, I received this today about a professor at
UNC who is researching the topic and looking for families's accounts.

A researcher at University of North Carolina, Prof. Maxine Eichner, is writing about the rising numbers of medical child abuse charges being leveled at parents of children with genuine, complicated medical issues. That researcher is trying to get a rough count of how often such charges are getting made against parents, and of how these charges are being resolved. Unfortunately, no centralized records are kept of these charges.

To get a better count of how often these charges are getting made, we are asking for your help. If charges of medical child abuse have been made against you or a member of your family, can you please let us know by filling out this survey? All identifying information will be treated as confidential. Although the researcher will release the total numbers and geographical areas of the cases gathered, no information that could identify individual cases will be released. Neither will anyone else connected with the case be contacted.

If charges of medical child abuse have been made against you or someone in your family, we’d greatly appreciate it if you would fill out this survey by April 15. We would also appreciate if you could spread the word about this survey to others who may find it relevant.

The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. Thank you so much for your assistance with this research.

Here is the link to the survey:

Hayward at Powerline links to this from The New Yorker:

Maybe it’s because I was raised as a Protestant and became an environmentalist, but I’ve long been struck by the spiritual kinship of environmentalism and New England Puritanism. Both belief systems are haunted by the feeling that simply to be human is to be guilty. In the case of environmentalism, the feeling is grounded in scientific fact. Whether it’s prehistoric North Americans hunting the mastodon to extinction, Maori wiping out the megafauna of New Zealand, or modern civilization deforesting the planet and emptying the oceans, human beings are universal killers of the natural world. And now climate change has given us an eschatology for reckoning with our guilt: coming soon, some hellishly overheated tomorrow, is Judgment Day. Unless we repent and mend our ways, we’ll all be sinners in the hands of an angry Earth.

Parody is dead.

Cheating has consequences for Atlanta schools admins. 11 of 12 found guilty of racketeering for cheating on test scores. 20 year stay at club fed possible.

lyle

J. Bradford DeLong (yeah, that one):

My two cents’ worth -- and I think it is the two cents’ worth of everybody who worked for the Clinton Administration health care reform effort of 1993-1994 is that Hillary Rodham Clinton needs to be kept very far away from the White House for the rest of her life. Heading up health-care reform was the only administrative job she has ever tried to do. And she was a complete flop at it. She had neither the grasp of policy substance, the managerial skills, nor the political smarts to do the job she was then given. And she wasn’t smart enough to realize that she was in over her head and had to get out of the Health Care Czar role quickly.

Yeah, let's put her in the WH. (Quote lifted from AT.)

matt

I would agree with that sentiment, lyle. Never seen anything like it. A party wins big and puts its head firmly up its kiester. All of the talk of fiscal responsibility and accountability has been smoke.

DoJ is letting Lerner completely off the hook completely while Issa has lost control of his bowels and turned up squat. I sat in a room 2 years ago with him and he told us he had the goods on the IRS. Same with benghazi. So far it's Obama 2 (or 4 or 6 or 8) and the Republicans Zero.

Captain Hate

Not sure I got the right ones, but very cool if I did.

May we remember Harry Reid for admitting the fascist tactic of the Dems and not just for his alleged pederasty.

It's not about the better argument, it's not about rights, it's not about freedom, it's not about a good economy, it's not about national safety.

It's about power, gaining, holding and wielding power. Nothing more.

So long as we play by the old rules, DOOM.

Captain Hate

DoT has effectively laid out the inability of Congress to prosecute executive branch malfeasance as a designed by the Founding Fathers. I honestly believe that they had no idea that the voters would ever put in a crew as scummy as we have now but there you have it.

The only thing I'd say differently is that the GOP is continually undermined by RINOs keeping the party from protesting the unprosecuted criminality of the donks with a unified voice. I also think we need an Article V convention to lift us out of the post Constitutional setting. I know that upsets a lot of others afraid of what might result but the current mess is unsustainable imo so what have you really lost?

Jane

Menedez indicted.

I really hope he turns on Obama but I can't imagine there is more at stake.

Jeff Dobbs

Mark:

Obama, chilling

Jeff Dobbs

new thread and i mean it this time, i swear

Old Lurker

The problems with the Art V Convention are two: There are not enough well spoken conservatives to sell the medicine required nor are there enough ears willing or capable to hear what they say; and since our left has been so successful at getting its way by ignoring the existing rules (Constitution), why would they want to encourage a new set of rules or any rules at all?

Hard to see why red states want to be tied to the blue hells much longer. Rats, ships, etc.

Captain Hate

A situation like the current one is why Article V was included; I doubt that it would have been ratified without its inclusion.
