Deep Dark Chocalate Cake does have a role to play in climate change. It takes a lot of hydrocarbons to bring that cocoa back to Belgium and Switzerland so they can process it to Betty Crocker.

I'll tell you 2 GREAT GREAT stories about him next time we have a beer.

caro

Shoot! I missed posting on the baseball thread that I will be at the Cubs/Pirates game in Chicago on May 17.

About macaroni and cheese. Love, love, love it. I spent 4 years in the out islands of the Bahamas and was surprise to learn it was a staple in the local diet. It was paired with peas and rice and fried conch or grouper. I think in that case it was that as part of the British Empire they got lots of wonderful Irish cheddar at a good price.

Those early presidents seemed partial to Madeira wine. Anyone looking for a wonderful island to visit, I would choose that one. Especially if you can do some hiking. It is a bit of visual intoxication.

Miss Marple

daddy,

I am sitting right here with a bound copy of L'Illustration, the premiere magazine of Paris up until 1944. This was discarded from the Marion County Library and showed up at my auction house, where I bought 9 volumes from various years and months from 1917 through 1938.

The volume I am looking at us from April through June of 1927. This was discarded, even though it has photos and articles of the following:

1. Lindbergh's arrival at Le Bourget, complete with photos, maps, and an ink wash drawing of the landing, which is very cool.
2. The excavation of Herculaneum, with photos.
3. Before and after pictures of the reconstruction of villages destroyed in WWI.
4. An article with photos of men who lived in a rest home for soldiers disfigured in WWI, complete with some ghastly stuff and
very French exhortations to not letthis happen again.
5. Report on the Salon de Paris for 1927, complete with removable reproductions of paintings.
6. Aerial photographs, taken from a biplane, of the 1927 Mississippi River Flood, including shots of them blowing up levees.
7. On site photos and reports on the making of the silent film "Napoleon."
8. Photos and discussion of the interior decoration of the new ship Ile de France.

Much more, can't catalog it all. Plus old Louis Vuitton ads, ads for perfumes, ads for old cars, etc.

It astounds me that this was discarded. And I have 8 more to go through!

Got me, TK! Of course there are Renaults, but there are a whole bunch that I didn't recognize because they were the equivalent of our Stutz, which went out of business before WWII.

Also, an ad for Mobil Oil, which Lindbergh used in his plane! Says so right in the ad!

Maryrose, it's not up to us. Federal court, Obama appointee as judge. The progs are suing us with our own money as usual. Not clear to me the judge will call it frivolous -- just said no stay because damages are minimal (a month or so of the $8k salary boost the Chief gets), and the amendment can't kick in until the vote is certified on the 29th at the earliest. In the last 100 years, only one new church has been given permission to build in Turkey (albeit on top of a graveyard). But in America, under the Obama Regime, Turkey is set to open a monstrous $100 million Islamic indoctrination and jihad training center in Maryland. Built on a 15-acre site, the Turkish Cultural Center will be the largest and most ostentatious example of Islamic supremacism in the Western hemisphere.

Caro, I don't have a cite to send Rush. Hopefully the WI SC will release their ruling ending the John Doe soon so people can speak freely. It is clear this was a putsch to remove Walker and Senate R's that involved the DAs, the elections agency (GAB), several judges (I think Shirley Abrahamson appointed them so possibly the Chief of our Supreme Court), the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, plus a cast of thousands of union thugs and OFA types. We also need the Federal SC to overrule the 7th and strip immunity from the DAs et al so the civil suits can roll.

Miss Marple,

That segment disturbed me, and I had a comment on that exact bit between Will and DrK, but I didn't hit "post" because I couldn't quite put it right. Whereas I thought DrK was and is very seriously worried about Iran getting a bomb and making valid points about it, I thought Will was unnecessarily argumentative, and more interested in petty point scoring. In a serious discussion on a very serious topic I thought Will was juvenile and contributed next to nothing of substance.

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

Welp, for my two cents, I miss DoT and JiB's contributions here, as well as all the others who aren't around any more(bgates, jm hanes, maybee) - or who don't show up often enough (Rob Crawford, Ann, Soylent Red, Cecil T, Boricua, etc.) - or just showed up again lately (Hi, caro, great to see you).

The more voices the merrier (Trolls excepted, of course).

Miss Marple

I agree. I might send a note to Bret tomorrow. I was disheartened to see Will trying to sidetrack the discussion with his petty comments.

How will I ever keep track of what Frederick is up to if JiB doesn't return?

That’s silly. Law presumes people choose to follow it. It presumes an authority to enforce it.

Miss M,

1. Lindbergh's arrival at Le Bourget, complete with photos, maps, and an ink wash drawing of the landing, which is very cool.

We have one of these beat up old child's toy's from 1927, given to us when an old Aunt died:

...Other toys remind us of less-familiar history. A 1927 dexterity puzzle recalls that pilots Clarence Chamberlin and Richard Byrd intended to race Lindbergh from New York to Paris and compete for the $25,000 cash prize, but both were each delayed by unforeseen events. Chamberlin became the second pilot to fly across the Atlantic, but do any of us remember that today?

Our's is beat up and missing 2 of the little magnets that are supposed to be the airplanes racing to Paris.

7. On site photos and reports on the making of the silent film "Napoleon."

I had a History of Film course in College and I recall really enjoying this film. Didn't see it all as I think it was like 6 hours long.

I recall the professor saying something like DeGaulle saw it as a young man and went banana's over it, standing up and rapturously applauding. The actor who played Napoleon was great.

Heh, Gentlejim - Johnny just finished. Daniel was the only player to win a match against him tonight. I may not have seen every game - but I think he lost 2 maybe 3 games all night.

Tonight's broadcast was brought to you by Gate City Billiards Club - the best pool hall in town.

Caro's iPad

BR, I was in that tiny sailboat on the horizon.

Daddy, oh, if you can get a gig to Madeira, take it. There is still local wine there. I remember one label, bottles in an overhead rack covering the ceiling. It was Boal, just remembering because it was my high school sweetheart's last name.

The airport is on pilons over the ocean. Before it was built planes took off with barely any fuel and landed at a nearby island, Porto Santo, where there was a better runway to fuel up heading to Lisbon. Porto Santo has a house that belonged to Christofer Columbus.

Jeff Dobbs

I'm doing well, maryrose - I've won my last nine league matches and 13 out of the last 15.

daddy

Cool, Caro.

I know some of the history from reading so much about the importance of it as a stopover for early sea-going Sailors, and would love to get there some day.

For those who don't know I believe Caro sailed solo across the Atlantic a few years back. Amazing.

BTW commenter Peter just got back from a week hanging out in the Turk's/Caicos. Never been there either but I'm sure I'd love it as well.

Henry might have linked this earlier: Who was the reporter outside Cindy Archer’s house?

So in all these John Doe raids it's all top secret, nobody can say nothing, not even to their Lawyers and neighbors and loved ones, yet somehow a reporter is able to get notified beforehand of who, where and when a raid is going to occur, so that he/she is able to get to the scene before the raid goes down and watch it happen.

If these things had to legally be kept top secret from everyone, yet a reporter was notified, then that act of notification should be cause enough for criminal prosecution of whoever leaked the info to the reporter. Heads should roll for this.

The reporters are of the body, perhaps part of that successor listserve, everyone else is an unperson.

Daddy - used to have a little place in the Turks & Caicos, and have had many fine experiences there. One time, at tge pool of a very fancy resort, a very beautiful woman showed up who seemed oddly familiar to me. I turned around and asked my daughter, a little guiltily, if she recognized her as one of my past squeezes? She looked over my shoulder at the woman, and then at me, shaking her head with a sort of pained incredulity.
"You idiot, dad", she said, "that's Cindy Crawford."

Slave-Owning descendent and Censor, Ben Afleck, states the obvious about PBS:

"This Isn't a News Program"

I lobbied him [Henry “Skip” Louis Gates, Jr.] the same way I lobby directors about what takes of mine I think they should use. This is the collaborative creative process.

Professor Gates, the host of the Taxpayer funded PBS Show ,"Finding Your Roots," who agreed with Afleck to hide the info about Afleck's Ancestor who owned Black Slaves, is the author of 27 books on Black Slaves and the African American experience, including:

---The Annotated Uncle Tom's Cabin
---Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Black Man
---Colored People: A Memoir
---The Future of the Race
---Lincoln on Race and Slavery
---The African American National Biography
---The African Americans
---African American Lives
---African American Lives 2
---The Two Nations of Black America

One might have thought that after having written so many books on African Americans and Slavery Professor Gates might have thought that the topic of Ben Afleck having an Ancestor who owned African American Slaves might have been of enough interest or importance to mention.

Apparently not.

daddy

Ha! This is great.

I am watching IMUS in the Morning on the FOX Business Channel and here's the verbatim news update transcript from Bernie about the Afleck/Gates Censorship business:

Bernie: ...Ben Afleck throws Host Professor under the bus in this FaceBook post. He writes "Skip decided what went into the show. I lobbied him the same way I lobby directors about what takes of mine I think they should use. Skip agreed with me on the slave owner but made other choices I disagreed with. In the end, it’s his show," said the honorable Ben Afleck. Al Sharpton said he's considering organizing a Boycott of the upcoming Movie "Batman" in response to all of this.

I really hope that last sentence is true and they ain't pulling our legs.

Boy, would that be delicious:)

BTW, frequently Conservative Black Americans like Clarence Thomas or Condi Rice are offensively referred to as "Uncle Tom's."

Uncle Tom (Merriam Webster)

:a black person who is eager to win the approval of white people and willing to cooperate with them

:1 a black who is overeager to win the approval of whites (as by obsequious behavior or uncritical acceptance of white values and goals)

2 : a member of a low-status group who is overly subservient to or cooperative with authority

Can anyone think of a Black individual who recently exhibited obsequious behavior to the desires of a powerful White man in order to gain his approval and cooperation? Personally I'm stumped, but maybe somebody could ask Uncle Skip Gates and see if he can think of someone.

G'nite.

"Great Dennis Prager clip, Janet. Excellent, and thanks for the link."

Miss Marple

Here is an interview with Bill Oesterle, the Angie's list guy who made the big stink about RFRA and has now resigned to do something in politics.

The interesting thing about this is that he and the reporter assume that Daniels could actually do a primary challenge if he chose to do so. I will have to look at the Indiana Constitution, because I thought governors could only serve two terms (amended when Doc Bowen left office back in the 80's).

While conservative groups supporting conservative causes & politicians is criminalized....liberal groups & the MFM are the driving force in getting Dems. elected.

Here in Virginia I hardly ever saw Terry McAuliffe or heard him answer any questions. He laid low while "green" groups & pro-abort groups advertised for him. The MFM spent their time bashing Cuccinelli.

It wasn't even Cuccinelli vs McAuliffe....it was Cuccinelli vs leftist advocacy groups & the MFM.

Captain Hate

McAuliffe should be sharing a cell with Corzine; see my earlier comments on prosecutors. The sad fact is the GOP doesn't play hardball like the commiecrats. Or when they do they pick the wrong targets, ie. Giuliani and Milken.

Janet

This story shows the same kind of thing going on - http://www.nationalreview.com/article/417153/irs-assures-atheist-group-it-will-monitor-churches-quin-hillyer

Will the IRS monitor the 501(c)3 Freedom From Religion Foundation?...Ya figure the FFRF is in compliance with "rules against express electioneering by nonprofit organizations."?

Will the Sierra Club be monitored?...or the Natural Resource Defense Council? or The Pew Charitable Trust... or EarthJustice?
How bout Planned Parenthood? or NARAL?

James D.

The walker skull of thrones is almost complete--it just awaits the DAs heads and Kulkas removal from office

It's not enough. Not nearly. In the best imaginable case, the DAs and the judges might be forced out of office, and they'll lose some of their power and reputation.

But they'll still have some power, by virtue of all their connections. And they'll leave office with generous taxpayer-funded pensions that will allow them to live out their lives in luxury.

Screw that. These people need to be DESTROYED. They need to be, at a minimum, bankrupted, with every detail of their personal lives laid out for the public to gawk at, living in constant fear of police raids on their homes, and those of their friends and families.

That is the ONLY way the progs will ever stop their tactics, if they have to pay an equal cost to their victims.

Look, I have Sicillian blood in me, and what that blood tells me is that you don't play the other guy's game. You don't respond proportionately. You don't bide your time. Someone comes after you, you burn their house down, and then you kill some of their friends and relatives. You make sure everyone else understands what happens if they even think about crossing you.

My one complaint about Walker is that he has not done this. He really does owe it to the men and women who supported him and were victimized by these John Doe withhunts, to avenge them.

Miss Marple

Janet, For years I have felt the 501c3 groups should be required to release donors names.

Particularly since we now know that the Clinton Foundation took money from foreign governments, I really think this is an important issue.

How do we know the Saudis aren't funding the Sierra Club? Or the Iranians? Or Putin?

Jeff Dobbs

And me; I still have a soft spot for the Mavs.

And me. I grew up in Dallas - I was 8 when the franchise was born. Heck, when I was 14 I my baseball team was named the Mavericks. Though apparently I have deleted the pic of me wearing my old jacket back when the Mavs won in 2011.

Captain Hate

The GOP has to drop the hammer on everybody involved with the John Doe case. The stuff that has been reported is sickening and is at least as bad as what has been reported as life under Stalin. The instigators of this have to go to jail for a long period of time, maybe forever, and have everybody associated with them financially ruined. Anything less is a capitulation to tyranny and any Republican that pussies out of this needs to be tossed out of office.

James D.

How do we know the Saudis aren't funding the Sierra Club? Or the Iranians? Or Putin?

Especially since we know that the Soviets funded anti-nuclear groups in the 70's and 80's, as well as unions and other organizations. It's not as though this would be a new tactic for our enemies.
