[Guest post by hit and run*]
Who will win this year's Masters is obviously yet to be decided. But we do know who came in last place. At the age of 63, Ben Crenshaw shot successive rounds of 91 and 85, failing to make the cut for weekend play in what is his final Masters.
However, Ben continues to have a big impact on this year's tournament through the relationship both he and his long-time caddy Carl Jackson have forged with current leader, Jordan Spieth.
The leaders tee off at 2:50 PM today.
Cross posting:
BTW, don't discount Spieth's Jesuit education as a big factor in his cool demeanor and ability to focus and bounce back after a bad hole. Self discipline is a big attribute of that matriculation and he shows it in spades for a 21 y.o. Compare to someone like Billy Horschel for example.

BTW, TM has compared watching golf to watching paint dry, so the "Guest post by..." was almost not needed.

Spieth definitely has something to prove as far as those cool recoveries from self inflicted adversity, especially after last year's Masters.
17 was botched and only a shot that could very easily have gone very, very wrong prevented another botch on 18.
His two, perhaps three worst shots of all 54 holes were on the last two holes he played.
I hope he wins, so he faces a massive test in putting his finish yesterday behind him.

JimmyK,
Only found out via ESPN Highlights that your Detroit Tigers picked up ex-Oakland/ex-Boston slugger Yoenis Cespedes over the off season.
What a great bat to add to that already terrific lineup. No wonder you guys are 5 and 0 so far. If he keeps playing and hitting like he normally does, and he's welcomed in the dugout, you guys are definitely looking at a great season. Plus Kate Upton in the grandstands! Man, this could be the season of all seasons.
Up 4 to 1 over Cleveland in the 2nd.

In case you are wondering why bears are not allowed as caddies at the Masters, its because they don't know how to pull the pin properly.

Fun link, Jack.
Only thing about it I would not recommend is where the golfer at the end walks up very close to the cub after it steals his ball. Momma bear is always nearby and they generally are very protective, so I would have given up the ball and stayed a little bit back and just made noise to get them off the links. That golfer is either braver than me or stupider than me, probably both:)

I listened to a fascinating interview this morning with an anthropologist who has written a book called "The Invaders."
Her basic premise is that the reason Homo neanderthalis became extinct and Homo sapiens survived boils down to this:
We had dogs.
Interesting premise, Miss Marple. I'd like to hear more of her logic and research, so I'll keep my eyes peeled on my next Library run.

Glenn, you could do a tremendous service by seeing she is forced to confront this at every interview. Every interview should include the following query:
As a member of the Judiciary Committee investigating Richard Nixon...what would your response have been after a subpoena had been issued for the White House Tapes...If Nixon had replied with "After reviewing the tapes, I am providing transcripts of the portions I have determined were "official business" and erased the portions I determined were "private". Since I own the tape recorder and the tapes, I have determined they are private and they will not be released. I have supplied everything you asked for. Deal with it."

@Jane: a couple of years ago I took my older daughter to Augusta for the tournament. On the first hole, Tiger tugged his drive left, just like he did today. While the patrons assembled parallel to his ball, I told my daughter to keep walking - that we'd stop twenty yards up, between his ball and the green.
After he got to his ball, he started walking towards the first green to examine his shot path. He walked right at us and my daughter was going nuts. She couldn't keep talking about how he looked more like a football player than a golfer. He is ripped.

Captain Hate,
Start looking around for a good dog trainer NOW. Airedales are very smart but can be bossy and you need to get good habits started early.
My dog trainer saved me from having to give my Maggie away. I was locking myself in the office! LOL!
Look for a trainer who is used to dealing with working dogs, not one of those "positive training" trainers who do nothing but reward them with treats. Those trainers are fine if you are dealing with a naturally compliant dog like a King Charles Cavalier, but with my English shepherd they were useless.

HuffPo has a link to a Reuters story saying that The United States is planning to impose a major new regulation on offshore oil and gas drilling to try to prevent the kind of explosions that caused the catastrophic BP Plc oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing Obama administration officials.
As these restrictions continue to come down the pike, worth mentioning that when Kudlow and Michael Rubin yesterday were discussing which Oil Companies were most interested in getting their hands on Iranian Oil if the sanctions are lifted, top of the list was Royal Dutch Shell.
It makes sense to me that Shell would much prefer to deal with the Iranians rather than our Federal regulatory nuttiness. The Fed's have in essence stolen Shell's multi Billion dollars paid for leases to drill offshore in the Alaskan Arctic, because with the other hand it has stymied that drilling for 5 years now by continually creating new Byzantine Regulations, generating Law Suits, and using US Tax Dollars to fund the Law Suits perpetually brought up by the Enviro-Lobby.
Haven't talked to the new neighbor lately but I expect the neighbor is pleased that the GreenPeace activists have bailed off the Shell Drill rig due to bad weather conditions: Greenpeace group leaves Shell drill rig after six-day stay
Greenpeace activists opposed to offshore drilling in the Arctic have abandoned a Seattle-bound drill rig they boarded in the Pacific Ocean six days ago, the organization said Saturday...Rough seas prompted the decision
Shell had advised the crewmen on board the Shell rig to not interfere with the protesters.

Believe it or not I got bored with the whole golf press and left before his interview. I don't recall when it was but I think it was after the downfall because I distinctly remember thinking I should check out the bar to see who was getting lucky.

Amazing shot by Phil Michelson on the 11th, chipping onto the green all the way to the upper end, just touching the grass off the green, and then the ball rolling back 20-30 feet to stop 2 feet from the hole. It was like magic. The ball kept rolling for like 10 seconds after it first touched down on the green.

CH mentioned in the last thread taxing college endowment funds to pay for student loan forgiveness.
I just want to point out that was my plan. 90% tax on endowments over a billion, 70% on endowments between 100 million and a billion, 50% for those less than 100 million.
Since the billion+ endowments are worth 380 billion in total, and the next tier probably equals that, we're talking probably 600 billion in new revenue to pay for the forgiveness. We could probably throw in a $10,000 tax credit to all families that paid loans in full over the last 20 years, too.
The R's should pass that and dare Zero to veto it.

By the way, along with the horrible Hillary logo, the geniuses who never talk to low info voters have made a confusing use of words.
She says "I want to be your champion."
LIV's will ask "What's she wanna be champion OF?"
Most LIV's do not use the word in the sense of a fighter for one's cause (as in medieval jousting) but rather as "Super Bowl Champion."
So, they aren't going to know what she's talking about. Ha!

Speaking of white racists, I think millions of them are being manufactured as we speak.
My eyebrows raised when my 17-year-old son told me today that he is sick of blacks. Ever since the Trayvon thing, he says they've continued to post racist hate on social media, and have been on the "black lives matter" kick since Michael Brown became a household name. He knows that "hands up" was b.s., but says that they all post things to the effect that whites hate blacks, want them hunted down by cops, etc., and he's sick of it.
I explained that Democrats need blacks to turn out to vote in big numbers, and they use real or bogus events to stir them up.
Turning blacks against whites is having the opposite effect as well. Sad.

I got the "friendly" letter saying I owed them $80K. Enough to make you crap your pants.
Turned out it was actually a loss my broker wanted to harvest. Got a lot of satisfaction when in the end the Feds had to send me a check.
Bad news is that I started getting audited every year after that. Didn't stop until I made an intentional error in their favor.

Carlin pronounced the game defunct a decade ago. The lure for popularity which ocurred over the previous six suddenly morphed from an upper to middle class obsession, coupled with post WWII optimism, and a temporary rise in middle-class numbers which could not be sustained and had to recede over what we consider 'the long haul'due to the physics of top heavy wealth distribution, had a half-life of less than one generation.
What is the most perplexing human behavior of all, voting against one's best interests, makes the former; elementary and
self-evident. The promise of exceptionalism cuts deep into Darwinian/Hobbesian credibility and Walking Dead reality. Hive mentality requires citizens to take a bullet for the good of the many. Poor and struggling conservatives see victory in taking one for the "Gipper".
