It's hard to be confident that this represents an upgrade, but Obama is shelving the "smart diplomacy" with Iran in favor of "creative negotiations":
Obama Urges ‘Creative’ Talks to Bridge Divide With Iran on Sanctions
WASHINGTON — President Obama on Friday directed his diplomats to use “creative negotiations” to bridge a sharp divide with Iran over the fate of sanctions if it agrees to curb its nuclear program, signaling flexibility in hopes of keeping a tentative agreement from unraveling.
Iranian leaders have insisted in recent days that the punishing sanctions be lifted as soon as a written accord is signed, a position that the country’s foreign minister reinforced on Friday. Mr. Obama did not repeat past American assertions that sanctions would be removed only in phases as Tehran follows through on obligations to scale back its nuclear facilities.
Oh for heaven's sake...
Instead, Mr. Obama suggested that negotiators seek a solution that would seem “more acceptable” to Iran’s political constituencies, while preserving leverage to force the government to abide by the deal. Rather than the timing and structure of sanctions relief, he said his priority was creating a system for reimposing the punitive measures if Iran is caught cheating.
“How sanctions are lessened, how we snap back sanctions if there’s a violation, there are a lot of different mechanisms and ways to do that,” Mr. Obama said at a White House news conference alongside the Italian prime minister, Matteo Renzi. The negotiators, Mr. Obama said, need to “find formulas that get to our main concerns while allowing the other side to make a presentation to their body politic that is more acceptable.”
Wait a second - the hardliners on our side are irresponsible nutjobs but the hardliners on their side need to be placated? I had a friend insist to me that Iran was desperate for this deal because sanctions are crushing their economy, but he couldn't quite explain to me why it seemed as if Obama, not the Ayatollah, was desperate for a deal. Other than the obvious legacy/Nobel II argument, of course.
As to the gist, please - here in Reality, once sanctions are lifted there will be many, many moneyed interests intent on keeping them lifted. Nothing will be "snapping back" except Obama's head in surprise when multiple European and Asian companies and countries put jobs and profit ahead of whinging from Israel and the US about obscure, hard-to-verify cheating by Iran.
Yeah, go ahead - score me as "Undecided" on this Iran deal. No, seriously - I can't decide if Obama is sincere but incompetent or a shameless liar who is incompetent. And normally I make these tough calls every day...
IGNORE THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN... White House aides scrambled to explain that Obama was simply enjoying his own mellifluous tones, not changing US policy:
As for Mr. Obama, his aides said he was not trying to signal a change in policy with his comments at the news conference.
“He was emphasizing snapback” sanctions that could be reapplied quickly “and the fact that this will be a subject of intense negotiation,” said a senior administration official, who insisted on anonymity to parse the president’s words. “But we’ve always made clear the principle that sanctions relief will have to be phased and in response to Iranian actions, and that continues to be the case.”
Oh, brother. Obama was lauded by Matt Yglesias for his creative "foreign policy by gaffe" back when we were young and optimistic in 2008. But Obama's stray flappings were far less helpful when he ad-libbed his Syrian red-line fever in 2012. As to Obama's ruminations about an "undivided" Jerusalem and Egypt as a non-ally, well, move on, haters.
Narc - sharansky's general point is valid but I object to him attributing moral failure to "the United States" rather than the current executive.

Jane, Walker is very middle class/ down to earth compared to a generic aspirational politician. Compared to a Hillary or Fauxcahantis he is genuine (perhaps especially compared to). There is an elite flavor to so many (Jeb, Huck, Pence any Dem), Walker refreshes the palate. I have no doubt he is as driven as any Presidential aspirant, but it does not consume his public persona. In that sense he may be as incomprehensible to the MSM as Reagan was.

The inability to distinguish between good and evil is a moral failure. How can the US not have failed by placing Obama in the Oval Office? A moral failure due to pignorance is still a moral failure and BOzo's lifelong incitement of greed, envy and sloth was never hidden. I don't mind Sharansky identifying a general moral failure one bit.

Daddy,
I have a bear story for you from an old timer, Rondo, who spent most of his life up there and was into a lot of heavy industrial/forestry stuff. Anyway, he was hired to use heavy lift helos to thin out a large bear population on one of the islands about 30 mi. off the coast. One by one the bears were darted and tagged and flown about 150 mi. inland.
About a month later... They're all back, including the 30 mi. swim.

MannyT,
Facts just like those have been mentioned on Local Talk, about relocated Black Bears somehow crossing 25 miles of open water and showing back up unexpectedly at their old stomping grounds.
I guess that since we only learned 3 years back that their cousins, Polar Bears, are capable of swimming 400 miles in the ocean without stopping, it makes sense that Black Bears and Brown Bears ought to be good swimmers as well. Especially since the Scientist guys at PBS tell us that Polar Bears diverged from Grizzly Bears as recently as 70,000 years ago or as many as 1.5 million years ago.
From my amateur readings of Evolutionary processes, It makes little obvious sense that an ability to swim 400 miles would arise in a Polar bear gene-pool over such a short time period, unless the previous Grizzly population had fairly decent genetic swimming abilities to begin with. If so, then Black or Brown Bears swimming 25 or 30 miles over open water to get back to their favorite garbage cans is only a surprise to we ignorant humans.

“It’s not uncommon for a bear once moved to return,” Cotten said. “Perhaps if you give them a couple of mountains to cross, they won’t come back.”

Gus,
Make sure you don't read Larry Kudlow. He is writing a new book on the JFK Tax cuts. This is from today's program, wherein he and Art Laffer talk about how wonderful a person Hillary Clinton is and how great it would be if Hillary got elected and instituted JFK like Tax Cuts:
Kudlow: Art, let me ask you, this is a very odd thing, and a lot of people are on my case, they don't really think it's viable, but I wrote a column yesterday. It' posted in different places; CNBC, National Review. It's called "A Challenge For Hillary Clinton---Return to a JFK Growth Agenda."...
. ..So, I'm saying that the biggest issue of this election is the absence of growth, and Hillary Clinton could take a flyer and adopt the JFK model of growth, both the attitude and the policies, including Taxes, including Trade, including a Sound Dollar. Her husband did something very similar to that in the 1990's. Now it's weird, it's not likely, but why not, why couldn't she do that?
Art Laffer She could! In fact it would be hugely successful for her and it would make her probably the most popular President the United States has ever seen...
Kudlow:...See, it's a funny thing thinking about Hillary. As I write in this piece, my intent is, I don't want to trash her, I don't want to do personal politics, too many Conservatives do.
Art Laffer You're completely right Larry, it makes no sense, it makes no sense. I mean, if you look at Hillary, she's an, she's an exceptional person.
Kudlow: She is! She's smart, she's experienced, she works hard.
Art Laffer And the Democrats are very lucky to have someone that good cause the rest of them aren't anywhere near as good as she is.
Kudlow: Right, and the whole party is drifting way to the Left, the Sandanista wing with Bill DeBlasio and Elizabeth Warren, I mean Hillary could stop that too and save the Democrats from themselves, but most importantly she could save the Economy, she could save the Country...
I wish I was smart enough to see how wonderful and hard working and intelligent Hillary Clinton is, and how she could save the country, but I'm just not that smart.

Daddy,
I want to know what brand of crack Laffer and Kudlow are smoking.
"Kudlow: She is! She's smart, she's experienced, she works hard."
With a pronoun change the same could've been said about Ted Bundy. He would've been a great President. If only he had the whole vagina thing going for him. I don't know if the serial killer thing would be an issue for Dems.
Posted by: Gentlejim | April 19, 2015 at 04:37 AM
GentleJim,
I don't know what it is about Kudlow that prevents him from being able to read people and their motivations, but he's about as bad as they come in that regard.
When William Safire said that Hillary was a "congenital liar" he was exactly correct. Whether Kudlow sees that, or simply refuses to acknowledge it to himself, is a mystery to me. Whichever it is, in regard to reading humans he's about as perceptive as a goat.
Posted by: daddy | April 19, 2015 at 05:02 AM
Any person that could say that H is smart, experienced and works hard is a buffoon, liar or both. I'm tired of being force-fed crap sandwiches and being told its filet mignon. It' should be obvious to all that have the ability to formulate the simplest thought that H has an interest in one thing and one thing only and that is H.

A few months later, said hardware is delivered.
Putin arrives in Egypt for talks.
Putin offers to meet with Obama to work on common goals.
News of this Muslim advisors arrest surfaces.
-------------------------
I don't care what anyone says, I think Sisi has the goods on Obama, probably including criminal activity. I think Putin wants to deliver a message to Obama, and it isn't going to be a friendly one.
Sisi doesn't have the clout to confront Obama, but Putin does. For one thing, Obama can NOT turn down an overture by Putin.

I wish I could say I was shocked by it, but it's not surprising in the least.
What I want to know is, will anyone be reprimanded for this? Demoted? Fired? Fined? Prosecuted?
What would the government's response be if the same pattern of dishonesty and abuse happened in a private company, say, involving clinical trials for new drugs? Or crash test data for new cars? And if hundreds of people suffered injuries or died as a result of those abuses?
And I find it interesting that "former prosecutor Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn)" is quoted, but there's no mention of reporters questioning him about whether any such flawed testimony was ever used by his office when he was a prosecutor. They also didn't question him whether he thought that the flaws might have been exacerbated by pressure from prosecutors to delivery testimony that would produce convictions, creating a feedback loop of ever-increasing error and abuse.
I wonder why the WaPo reporters didn't think that was an important line of inquiry?

"For example, the new federal rules say that a company policy to "avoid the use of offensive, derogatory, or prejudicial comments" is unlawful, while a rule prohibiting "use of racial slurs, derogatory comments, or insults" is acceptable"
No American should have to pay dues to a union that turns around and gives the money to the Democrats. IMO, that is slavery. Americans should have the right to work without being harassed by Democrat goons.

I find this quote from Ext's link to be the most appalling of all:
“The FBI deserves every recognition for doing something really remarkable here. The problem is there may be few judges, prosecutors or defense lawyers who are able or willing to do anything about it.”
The FBI created this problem and allowed it to grow for decades. And it's praiseworthy that after 30 years of fraud, they're starting to think about trying to possibly clean up part of the mess they created?
And as for the fact that "few judges or prosecutors are willing to do anything about it", what message does that send to people who were wrongfully convicted due to fraudulent evidence, or to their families?
Would a relative of someone who's spent 30 years in jail thanks to these lies be wrong if they decided to take the law into their own hands, especially if no judge or prosecutor can be bothered to look into the case because it's too difficult after all these years? I would certainly not judge them for doing so, and if I were on a jury, there's no way I'd convict them for it.

I really start to wonder what do they pay congressional staff for, it's not for research,
apparently or else that ridiculous Corker bill wouldn't have made it out of committee,

Obviously some newbies don't comprende that going ot from the start is a point of pride for the regulars.

Miss Marple,
Your conjecture re Sisi holding a nice BOzo thumper club is correct but I would point to the MB prisoners under death sentence as carrying more weight than the files alone. The creation of the Eurasian Co-Prosperity Sphere as a counter balance to the UN/IMF/World Bank nest of thieves is, IMO, the most interesting development in geopolitics. The establishment of the AIIB as a "good" bank alternative to the IMF/World Bank pulls the stinger from the threat of isolation via financial sanctions used by the Global Village Idiots in lieu of obvious force.
Putin may want to deliver the 'game over' announcement directly to Obama. He better bring a truckload of sidewalk chalk and a ton of patience to get the point across.
After all, the President is a very, very stupid man.

well floorwax/ dessert topping again, Rick, the lesson we should have learned after DACA, the NDAA revision, is there is no tool we can trust Obama with, Judge Hanen, knew it, that's why they tried to keep him off the court, for a decade,

in Thunderball, SPECTRE operated behind a charitable front, much the same way, Red Queen's
foundation operates:

Rove News Sunday is talking about the NH running of the RINOs, mainly, as Goober Graham seemed "comfortable" and is now on discussing the threat of gyro copters. 91% chance he'll run. 55% of South Carolina won't vote for him, the Manbearpig of the RINOs.

narciso,
One thing I have wondered about is why donors to charitable organizations are kept secret. To my mind, any donationover a certain amount, adn any donation by a foreign national should be reported.
I don't care if it's Greenpeace, Red Cross,my Catholic Church, or the Clinton Foundation. Foreign interests should be noted up front.
How do we know the Saudis aren't funding 90% of the Sierra Club's budget? How do we know that Doctors Without Borders isn't a front for the Chinese?
I have thought this for years.

you would think the biographers of the Alsops would know better:

Graham believes in climate change. Dondi is too afraid of the right wing. Hates Ted Cruz and the idea of the Constitution being the guiding light.

Who, pray tell, made Lindsey Graham the expert on anything?
Posted by: Miss Marple | April 19, 2015 at 10:11 AM
the former probably we know that about Soros think tank, the latter I somewhat doubt, 'flexibility' seems to be apply to more then just national interests,
Posted by: narciso | April 19, 2015 at 10:13 AM
Finally is criticizing 404s deal with Iran and calls it DOA in Congress. Graham insists that even Corker/Menendez won't sustain a veto for a bad deal. Wallace is now pointing out how Graham lost both parents in college and raised his younger sister; no matter what I may think of him as a pol that's impressive.

we know the Carter foundation was fronted by players from BCCI and at least one Class A Japanese war criminal,
Posted by: narciso | April 19, 2015 at 10:18 AM
so really what is the point of these things, it's what's the Japanese word for puppet theatre,

Jane @09:56.
I just saw that update. The strange difference in the first report is blamed on translations.
How is it that we see all these high level conferences where Obama is apparently unable to speak the language. I'm pretty sure he doesn't speak enough Spanish to understand the speeches in Panama City last week. Yet Univison can't translate
Spanish into English.
There is something wrong somewhere.
That is one reason the citizens of a country need to speak a common language. In the USA that is supposed to be English.

Bernie Sanders is on to badmouth Rodham and to defend the middle class. Blah blah Citizens United. Bernie is totally incoherent. The new Gus Hall.
Posted by: Captain Hate on the iPad | April 19, 2015 at 10:24 AM
the way I read it ' sound and fury signifying nothing,' translation software might as well be of Vogon origin,
Posted by: narciso | April 19, 2015 at 10:27 AM
Wallace wants to talk about Vermont's clustefuck health care and Bernie talks about global homilies. Says he's just like Graham on likelihood of running to drag Rodham's fat ass to the left.
Posted by: Captain Hate on the iPad | April 19, 2015 at 10:28 AM
Sanders just another Lieberman with a lesser hasbara stench.
