Ext,
I find it interesting that the subject of a subpoena gets to dictate how many times they'll testify. I know when I've been subpoenaed I didn't have a choice.
IRT Obama working for poor minority men, when has he ever worked? He seems to be immune or allergic to the concept.

Miss Marple

OT, but this is a really good article on Andrea Tantaros:

daddy,

The elections are Thursday. I have seen some articles and heard some odd segments on BBC, but nothing serious or extended.

So my answer is, "I don't know."

Ext,

Caught a bit of Obama's speech today, and heard the part where he said that when he sees these youth in the streets (who I believe he called criminals last week) that he sees himself.

It struck me that the President of the United States is more interested in dragging the Presidency down to the level of the street criminal than he is in elevatting the street criminal to strive for the self improvement necessary to become The President of the United States.

Obama is a cancer to the dream of America.

Anyone see the story about the Boston Marathon runner being dared by her daughter to kiss a handsome guy during the race? Well, she found one, gave him a kiss, and the story this morning was that she felt something and the daughter was posting on Facebook to find the guy.

Good closing point by Steve Hayes on the panel as he hits back at the CIA Boss Morell's new book which supposedly gives cover to the Administration by accusing the Repub's of trying to politicize Benghazi:

Brett: One thing Catherine touched on and the book touches on...the "Talking Points".

Steve Hayes Yeah it'll be very interesting to see what Morell says in the broader book, about his roll in the Talking Points.

Brett: The Benghazi Talking Points.

Hayes: The Benghazi Talking Points, because it was fairly clear at the time that he was not honest, that he mislead members of Congress, and he did so repeatedly. This is not me saying this, this is not idle speculation. It sounds like from the New York Times review that Morell tries to spin this as some grand conspiracy theory. There are five US Senators who said, on the record, that Mike Morell mislead them about Benghazi. That's not a small thing to have to answer for.

Powerful statement from a black Baltimore Police Lt/Spokesperson just said on Megyn's Show:

Lt Ken Butler: I heard the United States Attorney read the charges. I was shocked, along with my co-workers. We were disappointed, fearful, because now you have Officers who have come to me and say "Hey listen, I'm afraid of doing my job now," And remember Megyn, I'm a Shift Commander, and I have my finger on the pulse of the rank and file Officers on the street, and I speak with them daily. And now they think "well if I get in trouble this Police Commissioner's not going to back me up, and now from what they've seen, if someone makes a complaint, and it's controversial, then maybe the United States Attorney is going to bring charges against me." And we had an Officer just last week, who was attacked by 3 people, and they tried to get his weapon out of his holster but they couldn't get it out. Two citizens, two ordinary regular citizens came to the aid of this Officer, so when I asked the Officer "Hey, could you have used deadly force?" he said "Lieutenant, yes I could have used deadly force but I was afraid of what this Agency, what the State's Attorney, may do to me," and we can't work like that.

daddy - I've been covering the British election for weeks, now, and expect to have at least one post up on it every day this week.

My serious post this morning noted that many British bookies are now giving the same odds for Cameron and Miliband becoming the next prime minister. Miliband was a slight favorite, just a few days ago. (And, in the other post, I mentioned a very funny Miliband blunder.)

(For those who know more about betting shorthand in Britain, please let me know if I have misinterpreted their odds.)

Another example of how hard it is for the Oil Companies to do Business up here:

Seattle City Officials: Shell's Arctic drilling vessels can't moor in Seattle until port gets new permit

The Polar Pioneer drill ship and its accompanying tugboats do not -- for now -- belong at the port’s Terminal 5, a site currently devoted to cargo ships, Seattle’s Department of Planning and Development said in a finding released Monday.

The port lease held by Shell contractor Foss Maritime covers only cargo operations, not moorage and maintenance of oil rigs and oil-related vessels, the department said in its finding.

For Foss to use its lease to moor the Polar Pioneer and its tugs at the terminal, the port must obtain a new permit, the department said in its findings.

That process could take “several weeks,” said Jason Kelly, a spokesman for Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.

Seattle Mayor Murray: “To prevent the full force of climate change, it’s time to turn the page on things like coal trains, oil trains and oil drilling rigs. It’s time to focus on the economy of the future: electric cars and transit, green homes and environmentally progressive businesses...This is an opportunity for the port and all of us to make a bold statement about how oil companies contribute to climate change, oil spills and other environmental disasters -- and reject this short-term lease.”

Over to Jim Miller for local Coverage.

And now, like Seattle, I'm going to the dogs.

FWIW, the Ecommunist's lead editorial in their latest edition supports Cameron for economic reasons, but not for the EU "challenges."

On the significance of Van Jones: When he first came on the national scene, I knew immediately why he was being promoted so heavily. He served as a bridge between the Greens and minority communities, who often have real conflicts.

I don't know if he ever put it this bluntly, but he was saying you can be Green -- and black, and you should be.

That made it easy for many in the Democratic Party to ignore his communist background. (Or would it be Communist? I haven't had dinner yet, so I'll look tha up later.) And ignore some of the wilder things he said.

I've certainly had a very mixed bag of interactions with the police. I can think if two breaks I received that were ridiculously generous. And I can think of one that was the polar opposite.

As such, my feelings toward law enforcement vacillates. There are only a few other professions where life and death decisions involving other lives are a job requirement. Surgeons come to mind.

And while surgeons can practice some defensive medicine, they're never the subject of riots and demagogues when it goes terribly wrong. Surgeons also don't have people returning fire. Terrible climate in which to be a cop...

Beasts of England

Clarice,

It is the same example I cite every once in a while from my Indian friend from Gujarat, who says that back home in his home state Muslim's are known as "The 5 Percent Majority." Though a very small part of the population, they demand that everyone treat their demands as sacrosanct, and if they aren't treated that way then they get violent about it, ultimately resulting in the overall society kowtowing to their demands, ergo they are known as "The 5 Percent Majority."

The reaction you note from the Media, counseling a mass cultural acquiescence to these Islamic behavioral demands, is the MSM bending their knee to Islam. If successful the demands for future mass cultural knee bends towards Islam will only increase. That is the lesson of history that the Left and our current Leadership are so keen to not see.

The reporter on Gretta's replay just said the following:

The shooters appear to have targeted this event precisely because it was a controversial competition for the best cartoon of the prophet mohamed. Any physical depiction of muhammed is considered blasphemous in the Islamic Religion.

That statement is not exactly true, or at least it has not always been true. Just for the record, the Koran does not forbid depictions of Muhammed. Some passages in the Hadith do. It is easy to click on many websites and see numerous depictions of mohamed, drawn by muslims, over the centuries, tho' generally the drawings will not show his face. Here's a few examples.

Anyhow, I point this out because what the FOX reporter is saying is not true, or at least it has not been true throughout much of Islamic History.

Just catching up here, and read the beautiful post JiB put up Sunday morning about Brian Moore, the now deceased 25 year old NYC LEO who was assassinated.
(I believe that is actually a more accurate word than murder, isn't it? He was killed for his position in society, not for who he is.)

Which made me think--

You made the empty chair happen, what do you think about this?

When the two NYC LEOs were assassinated in their patrol car, I went to Michael's got some wide sparkly net/bunting like stuff,
maybe 18 inches wide or so--
it's less than $10--in deep blue, and tied bows around two of my trees in the front yard. I figured the cop who patrols our neighborhood---that's what my neighbors pay for--would understand what it was for, if no one else.

It generated a fair amount of questioning though from my busy neighbors---many of whom were barely or totally unaware of the officers' deaths.

Not as easy as grabbing a lawn chair and setting it by the side of the street, but it is a way to express support---and let others know who is on the eff off team.

Extraneus

A little piece by Ace, explaining the tried and true Clinton defense.

http://minx.cc:1080/?post=356539

When Bill Clinton deliberately committed perjury in the Monica Lewinsky matter, his defense was that while he spoke falsely, he did not knowingly lie.

Well, now he's claiming, with respect to his foundation hiding money, refusing to disclose, and arranging sweet uranium deals for close buddies who just happen to give him $131 million, neither he or his wife did anything knowingly wrong.

Let's talk about this "knowingly" defense. To be found guilty of committing most crimes (all but a precious few which are called "strict liability" crimes, where performing the act itself imposes liability), you must have both committed a blameworthy act (actus reus) while having a blameworthy state of mind (mens rea).

To commit a blameworthy act is not sufficient to impose criminal liability.

henry

Ext, that doesn't work with the IRS or SARBOX crimes.

daddy

Who the FUCK cares, what REASON

GUS,

I just want our Media to get their facts straight and to be telling us the truth, because so many of our fellow citizens are misinformed and thus are dependent on whatever they hear spouted from the idiot-box.

If anyone cares, here's a pageful of muhamud paintings showing muhammids face, done by artists of the Islamic world during the middle ages and on up to the 1500's. Obviously drawing or painting mohamid back then wasn't considered blasphemous all across the Islamic world, otherwise it wouldn't have been done, and if it had been done the artists and the depictions would have been destroyed.

According to this link, this following depiction of mohammud (with his face shown) riding a mythical beast, is a photograph of a mural which appears to depict Mohammed on a contemporary building in Iran. The mural shows Buraq (the animal that carried Mohammed on his Night Voyage, described as being white and having the face of a woman and the tail of a peacock, which this creature does) carrying a figure who could therefore only be Mohammed.

A word-for-word transliteration of the caption to that picture in Farsi says (according to this automated translation site)
"The Messenger mounted mainland shiny door village (yzdlaan) (kvyry) blinds to ascension wine river",
...which obviously doesn't translate well but which does make mention of "The Messenger," a traditional epithet for Mohammed (as the messenger of Allah).

If so, and the mural still exists in Iran, then if depicting muhammid is blasphemous why the heck hasn't it been destroyed? Didn't Obama tell us "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." Whassup with that?

Anyhow, here's the home page of the site I've been linking: Depictions of Mohammed Throughout History

But enough about drawing mahamud. It's time I draw me a beer.
