First again

TM
This is a post I can relate to completely
I am fair skinned with Irish coloring so I have been hiding in the shade for years
When the kids took swimming lessons I had to sit out of the sun no socializing just waved hello to my friends and headed for the trees

maryrose

10 to 4 is the crucial time to seek shelter from the sun wear a hat and put on sunblock
Don't forget your ears and the arm outside of the car window when driving

Jeff Dobbs

Cosmo. I didn't know I would get Cosmo at JOM.

I'm not sure what's real any more.

Cecil Turner

I found this persuasive:

Those studying the vitamin say the hide-from-sunlight advice has amounted to the health equivalent of a foolish poker trade. Anyone practising sun avoidance has traded the benefit of a reduced risk of skin cancer—which is easy to detect and treat and seldom fatal—for an increased risk of the scary, high-body-count cancers, such as breast, prostate and colon, that appear linked to vitamin D shortages.

Ben

We used to fry ourselves in baby oil and Hawaiian Tropic without the danger alerts. But that was when there were greater atmospheric shields. Hmmm. How might climate denialists recoup our virgin skin?

NKonChrome

TM's reading Cosmo? Are you feeling alright TM? You're not going Katie Maguire on us or anything? NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

Jeff Dobbs

TM:
But maybe we need a new feature - JustOneMinute After Dark

Methinks somebody changed his mind on "TOO amok"...

Jeff Dobbs

COMPLETELY UNRELATED: Hey, Beasts......

Beasts of England

lol, Jeff!! If this place is gonna start haranguing me about my beautiful tan, I'll just go back out on the boat - without sunscreen! :)

maryrose

Cecil
I disagree
Many gas
Ily members and friends have standing appointments with dermatologists to either cauterize or burn off precancerous skin tissue
Thus far I have been spared though I do have a lot of freckles on my arms for protection

maryrose

Should be family members though some can be full of hot air at times
The only ones spared in my family have Slovenian skin inherited from my mother

MarkO

I, for one, enjoy the list of health concerns troubling TM.

Twice even! Hey Mark, are you on facebook?

henry

I can get sunburned in less than a minute (or so it seems).

Janet

from Jan. 2014 - Rickets soar as children stay indoors: Number diagnosed with disease quadruples in last ten years

Janet

"New figures from the NHS show there were 833 hospital admissions for children suffering from the condition which is caused by a lack of Vitamin D in the financial year 2012-13.

Ten years earlier the figure was just 190.

Some experts fear that parents obsessing about protecting their children from sunlight, which boosts the body’s level of the key vitamin, has led to the rise."

Henry
I feel it almost immediately
It's like a warning to cover up
You must be proactive especially if you are a runner and don't think the sun is getting to you
Overcast days are dangerous
I used to tell the high school girls I taught
Get out of the tanning booths

maryrose

Janet
They need to drink more milk and put the soda and water bottle down

maryrose

Did you know with certain medicine the sun is can cause an adverse reaction

anonamom

No, they really need to go outside and move their fannies.
Ours is the only culture where people drink milk after they are weaned.

(Nothing against milk consumption---I am a fan.)

Jane

Anonamom, did I just see you on twitter?

Jim O

Somebody's monitoring the phrase Just One (1) Minute" on Google News or something.
