Yer gettin there, Cecil.

Extraneus

You know, I consider myself fairly up on current events, but I don't think I understand two paragraphs in this entire article.

Former U.S. Agent Will Plead Guilty in Bitcoin Theft

Miss Marple

DebinNC, I am with you.

It's up to the people of South Carolina, and it looked to me like Nikki Haley had people from both parties and both races in agreement.

She specifically said that it wasn't about banning it from private use, but from using it on state monuments and facilities. I think this is an example of a gracious gesture and a way to avoid contention over something which can be used to cause further trouble.

And just like it isn't my place to tell them NOT to remove the flag, it is also not my place to tell them they have to keep flying it.

Besides, I have enough to worry about here in Indiana.

DublinDave

Don't get me wrong, the African-American community has been an ATM of political capital and retail votes for Liberals down through the years....we've played them as much as they've played us all.

But man, sometimes the little part of my brain that's still manages a bit of critical thinking gets embarrassed by it all.

I liken the African-American community to someone who eats an entire meal at a restaurant, then complains about the food and asks for the check to paid by Management.

Hey,no one said politics wasn't a dirty profession.

DebinNC

Re Dem discipline, they have megaphones like Trumka et al union bosses, Sharpton and his nationally broadcasted tv and radio shows, Crump et al BGI "Hands UP" hoardes, Soros funded "Occupy" anarchists supplied with enemy home addresses ready to terrorize any target anywhere, etc. Plus, there's BOzo who has no comprehension of what's inappropriate for a POTUS to say, and/or if he does, he doesn't care. Our side has Rush and Ted Baxter.

NKonChrome

DD either cashed the check, or the Soros/OFA people stiffed him. There is a clear lie in DD's 10:40; he claims to critically think, and that he can be embarrassed by... well, anything.

Denying the black grievance industry low hanging fruit to rally angry mobs imo is the right and wise thing to do.

I see it just the opposite way. The grievance industry wins a victory for nothing to do with the SC murders. Just another knee-jerk reaction to a tragedy, like banning guns in England and Australia, like the dept of Homeland Security and the TSA.

Do you think the race hustlers will go away now? What about Janet's point about school and road names?

This is all about dominance and submission. They aren't going away.

Concur completely. And though I don't think it ever should've been there (it's inappropriate to fly a symbol of a failed system over the current government house), and it probably ought to be removed, tying it in to the current crisis strikes me as pandering.

NKonChrome

Dem Discipline? it's like any criminal organization 'honor amongst thieves". It works as long as they all get paid; but if anyone gets stiffed..... they rat each other out. That is the desperation the Dems now feel as a result of OPM famine.

narciso

Hence the incipient push to rename military installations (ht weazelzippers) and yes dunblane and port arthur fit into this

NKonChrome

"tying it in to the current crisis strikes me as pandering."

Of course it's pandering, that's what politicians do. It was a convenient time for the Gov. to correct a mistake of someone else's doing, and her supporters couldn't publicly object.

DebinNC

Thanks, MM. It so interesting to hear about Indiana from you, and MA from Jane, and Maine from Marlene, etc, etc. I wish more lurkers would chime in so that we'd get a wider sense of JOM opinion on different issues nationwide.

Cecil Turner

Interesting qualifier.

He could've left it off, it's just that was the government's justification for the taking. And it was somewhat defensible (they kept production consistent, which kept prices steady, and all producers benefited). The main problem was, they turned it into a slush fund for the folks running the system . . . oh, yeah, and it was unconstitutional.

Miss Marple

NK,

A really good campaign issue would be to list all of these things like the "Raisin Adminitration Committee" and the "National Sheep Industry Improvement Center" and grants for shrimp on treadmills and robot squirrels along with how much money these programs get.

I am sure there are more as I just did a cursory search on a few animals and such. I didn't delve into studies on sexual habits, food and drink, restoration of old buildings, etc.

A good ad would be to run a "Thanks for paying for this, taxpayers" ad right before April 15. I would also show how big some of those government buildings are along with how many people are working on raisin and sheep committees.

Americans do not connect there taxes with all of these programs, which seem to never end. Maybe getting a pittance back on their refunds while 5 guys are being paid large government salaries to confiscate raisins might get their attention.

Captain Hate

The Restraining Order shilling for Twitch:

Dear Captain,

Ted Strickland and I have a lot in common. We were both born and raised in Ohio. We served together in the House of Representatives. And we both know what it’s like to put up with outside attacks in a Senate race. And, unlike me, Twitch has never had a restraining order filed against him by his ex wife.

Hours after Ted announced that he was running in 2016, Republicans pounced. They’ve already got a website up, twisting the truth of his work for Ohio families.

Special interests spent $40 million against me in my last election. The same groups that came after me are going to come after Ted this time.

And Captain, Ted’s going to need the same support I had to fight against them -- your support which you somehow neglected to give me. Maybe you don't like my current fatassed wife whom, I must admit, I can barely stand to be in the same room with but if I ditch her she'll take to the pages of the Plain Dealer and never stop badmouthing me to the witless tools who can stand to read her maudlin garbage.

Ted’s coming up on a big FEC deadline at the end of the month -- and he needs to reach his goal before June 30th. Make a contribution today to help Ted fight back.

I’ve known Ted for a long time. He’s a champion for middle class Ohioans. He’s spent his life working to create opportunities for working families.

In the House, Ted stood with Ohio workers, voting against NAFTA and fighting for smart investments in infrastructure and technology. As our state’s governor, Ted held tuition rates to some of the lowest in the nation. I'm stumped to come up with anything else that didn't have "fail" written all over it which is why he only lasted one term.

This is a big month for Ted. Everyone knows he has the right values for Ohio -- now they need to know he’s got the grassroots power to back it up. That’s why hitting his FEC goal in time is so important.

If you're able, give $5 large or whatever you can afford to help Ted today. I admit it's throwing good money after bad, but isn't that why people vote for me?

Thank you.

Sherrod

Cecil Turner

Cruz didn't make a difference.

I'm surprised . . . they got it right on the money, and I thought they'd miss it by 2-3. Looks like they're bundling it with TAA and AGOA, which I can deal with (both are relatively minimal). It'll be interesting to see if there's a back door on ExIm, which is far more objectionable.

I talked to some of my African-American friends this morning and they were laughing about the Confederate flag controversy. One of them,Simon(who's very good at what he does and taught me a lot) said "Dave,we don't give two hoots about the Confederate flag. This is about separating Republican state Senators,Presidential candidates etc from their base and improving our chances in up and coming elections. Those who hold out we'll brandish as racists and beat them anyway. It's politics,Dave, this is how it works. You know this"

Hey,Simon knows his stuff.

narciso

How did you end up on twitch's email, and how much mo noply money are you sending him?

Stephanie

(it's inappropriate to fly a symbol of a failed system over the current government house)

The flag in question isn't over the current government house. It flies over a Confederate Monument located on the edge of the government grounds.

Lovely how the wording by the MSM distorts the issue.

Captain Hate

I used to be a registered donk so I receive all of the restraining order's crap. The good news for Twitch is that, even though I'd never cast a vote for him, I won't do so either for Rob Portman. To Hell with both of 'em.

Cecil Turner

Now perhaps the consumers will benefit from that discredited thing called the free market.

I was heartened to see that was an 8-1 decision (even though it was only 5-4 on compensation, with the libs giving credence to the "for your own good" formula). Lots of other good stuff at Scotusblog, including this one with Kagan inserting some humor into the decision:

But she sprinkles the opinion with fanciful allusions to the subject matter of the patent dispute – a Spider-Man toy that shoots foam string from the palm of the hand. Her opinion describes the rights that patents grant as “superpowers,” the quality of stare decisis afforded statutory decisions as “superpowered,” and the type of justification required to overrule Brulotte as “superspecial.” Getting into the same spirit, Justice Clarence Thomas in his dissent denies the need for such “super-duper” protection of the Court’s prior decisions.
Which brings up a funny story. When my kids were little they saw that dumb spiderman web gear commercial that had some kid clinging from the ceiling and shooting foam string from his webshooters . . . and of course they had to have it. My wife tells 'em "you know you won't actually be able to climb on the ceiling"; and, after a quick huddle with her brothers, my daughter turns around and announces, "okay, we promise."

Jane

Deb,

I have no issues with the flag. It's a part of our history and I'm pretty tired of people trying to erase that.

But it is an issue I am very removed from.

NKonChrome

Heh-- someone got to Davey and dragged him back into the Dem Plantation. No truth permitted by the Dems, ever. Can't have that, the whole criminal enterprise would collapse.

Cecil Turner

The flag in question isn't over the current government house. It flies over a Confederate Monument located on the edge of the government grounds.

I sit corrected. However, I'd submit it's a difference without a distinction.

I served with many Southerners, greatly appreciated their competence and dedication, and have unreserved respect for the southern military tradition (which, at least as of a couple decades ago, is alive and well). I further have utmost sympathy for those who'd like to memorialize the valiant efforts of the Confederate armed forces in a losing struggle. But . . . in my opinion, which I wouldn't even offer if I didn't think it was a done deal, the Capitol isn't the place for it (and really never was).

Cecil Turner

sb: distinction without a difference

DebinNC

Slavery/Jim Crow was a shameful and evil part of our history, imo worse than the Holocaust because of the generations of people adversely affected - past, present, and future. I don't react to seeing the Stars and Bars as viscerally as I do the swastika, but it's easy to imagine why blacks do.

Americans' ignorance of the 'old' and 'new' Klan is impossible to overstate. The old Klan failed to overturn reconstruction Republican state governments and it became irrelevant when reconstruction ended and the Union Army moved out. The new Klan (second and third KKKs actually) became a complete irrelevancy after prohibition was revoked and then when the South adopted modern economics and began to eat the economic lunch of the Northern Blue Hells. The income and wealth transfer from Mass, Ct, NYS, NJ, Pa, Mich, Ill, Ohio to the New South is a massive economic and social story of the past 50 years.
