Stephanie Armour of the WSJ reports on emails between Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber and team Obama:
MIT Economist Jonathan Gruber Had Bigger Role in Health Law, Emails Show
Adviser whose comments on Affordable Care Act touched off a furor worked more closely than previously known with White House
Yeah, yeah, fun's fun but... with the Supreme Court expected to release their opinion on the validity of the Obamacare subsidies any day now, a real clickbait headline would have revealed that Gruber and the White House had exchanged emails confirming that Federal subsidies could only go to states that set up their own exchanges. Gruber was repeatedly caught on tape saying just that, but an email with the White House would widen the circle of ex post denial and politically convenient amnesia.
Presumably Ms. Armour knows all this. So, as with the curious incident of the dog in the night, one might infer that no such smoking email was found. Drat.
You're relying on the media to tell you what was not found?
Additionally I am led to believe that these emails are only the emails released by MIT....your smoking dog email might be buried elsewhere...
Or it might still be in this pile, I don't think your media is that well motivated.
Posted by: Putin | June 22, 2015 at 01:32 PM
And if there were such an email, do you seriously think it would ever be allowed to see the light of day?
Posted by: James D | June 22, 2015 at 01:42 PM
Um, until recently the White House did not write the laws so an email exchange between ValJar and Gruber means nothing Supreme Court wise. Emails exchanged with Reid or Pelosi (if such things were not removed via rogue exercise band) might have a bearing on legislative intent.

Listening to Rush commenting on the Pope's comments about Arms Manufacturers. Apparently the Pope said this:
TURIN, Italy (Reuters) - People who manufacture weapons or invest in weapons industries are hypocrites if they call themselves Christian, Pope Francis said on Sunday.
My question---Did anybody tell Jesus?
Luke 22:33-38:
33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”
“Nothing,” they answered.
36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[b]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That’s enough!” he replied.

My grandfather manufactured very fine gun barrels - Ig will attest to their quality - and this hits very close to home. This Pope is really pissing me off. I won't call him a fascist at the moment, but I reserve the right to do so later.
Posted by: Beasts of England | June 22, 2015 at 02:38 PM
daddy, I thought it was interesting that in the same article the Pope called out arms manufacturers et al, he also talked about the Holocaust and how the Allies knew where the rail lines to the camps were, but didn't bomb them, and he wondered why not.
I am thoroughly tired of this Pope.

Pope Frank is not a model of reasoned Jesuit argument. Jeez, what a Lefty goofball he is. Follow Fr Rutler's advice, on matters unrelated to scripture.... just ignore him.

Go search for the Pope's comments, re: gun manufacturers, and you can see a greatest hits list of his newest fans: HuffPo, Daily Kos, et al.
And thinking back about six months ago, the Pope and JEF looked way too friendly during the photo ops. Tyrant to tyrant, perhaps.
Posted by: Beasts of England | June 22, 2015 at 02:52 PM
The Pope saying that someone is not a Christian sounds like a matter of scripture to me.

Looks like everyone is distracted by your President dropping the magic bad word.
Your Obama sounds like a racist--not because of that word -but because he seems to be saying racism is in your DNA.
How does that not sound like a racist, and how is all of your media missing that?
Posted by: Putin | June 22, 2015 at 02:57 PM
I am thoroughly tired of this Pope.
Me too, James D.
How come I can't recall Pope John Paul the 2nd coming out constantly with nutty statements that had to be immediately clarified and massaged by teams of Vatican Marie Harf's or Josh Ernest equivalents?
I don't know what would have happened with the Lech Walessa movement if this guy had been the Pope in charge at that time, but thank the Good Lord we were given a Pope then who understood the difference between tyranny and freedom.
With this guy I don't even know if Air Conditioner manufacturers are allowed to call themselves Christians any more.
Posted by: daddy | June 22, 2015 at 03:00 PM
Daddy, on the who can call themselves Christian thing.. the Pope missed out on a big event or two in history.

On the other hand, on the top of her victory over Apple, I would be perfectly happy to support Taylor Swift's run for the White House!
Taylor Swift Beats Apple: A 21st-Century Magna Carta?
The cute girls on FOX were ecstatic at the particulars of how Taylor Swift orchestrated Apple's surrender (she did it to ensure "the little people" got paid) and when Cavuto said he wasn't interested in exactly how she pulled it off they both gave him a ration, correctly accusing him of only wanting to run photographs of the cute songstress so that he could ogle her.
Personally I think she needs a bit more meat on her bones, but we could work that out during the Campaign.
Posted by: daddy | June 22, 2015 at 03:08 PM
he also talked about the Holocaust and how the Allies knew where the rail lines to the camps were, but didn't bomb them, and he wondered why not.
In addition to the comment I made on the prior thread, when Slick was exhausting NATO's bomb supply on Serbia and other Eastern European sites under the guise of helping the Bosnians, my thought then and now was how does it help to have bombs and shells raining down on you without any ground troops to differentiate the prisoners from the captors. As for the WW2 matter, any deviation from the strategic goals of war planning will have negative consequences. That shouldn't be a difficult concept to grasp unless a person is being deliberately dense.

I hear a lot of complaints about iTunes but, unless I'm missing something, it seems to be an end run around the robber barons in the music biz and makes it easier for artists to get their music out and be judged in the marketplace. They were smart to agree with Taylor Swift on what seems to me to be a no brainer. I'm surprised this mini skirmish was over so very little.

I think every candidate for President on both sides should be specifically asked if they believe the President's recent use of the word "Nigger" is appropriate.
I believe they should also be asked if they believe the President's use of the word "Nigger" is helpful or harmful to Race Relations in America and around the world.

"Each time that these events occur, ironically, gun manufacturers make out like bandits, partly because of this fear that's churned up that the federal government and the black helicopters are all coming to get your guns," he [Obama] said.
He also joked that the "black helicopters" that feature in conspiracy theories were real.
"There are black helicopters, but we generally don't deploy them ... we deploy them against bin Laden but we generally don't deploy them on U.S. soil," he chuckled.
When Barack Obama talks gun control, everyone buys guns.

Not exactly an irrational fear when the administration that never lets a crisis go to waste is still in power.

"Each time that these events occur, ironically, gun manufacturers make out like bandits
FOX earlier today had some segment where some former Special Ops/CIA type said that ISIS now has adherents in all 50 States, and that there is good reason that they are expecting to do some mass action on a date like July 4th. If that prediction comes true, then gun Manufacturers are going to make out not like bandits, but like the famous Robber Baron's at the turn of the last Century, and for good reason.

But when he says that racism is in the DNA of America and "passed on" he does not sound like someone that thinks it can be cured, he sounds like someone who might even be interested in keeping the divide...
Prejudging people (Americans) to be racist due to the DNA --I thought was the very definition of racism in your country-- but I guess I have that wrong.

I kept having to explain to them that two of the old white guys in the pew were the Democrats and that the statewide more important political officials, the black Senator, and the female Indian governor were the Republicans.
Had a doozy of a time explaining this to my young staffers--while CNN says this state is the race haters unparalleled.

SC: Lawton Chiles was wrong to put it up, we are correcting the mistake. We admire the yeomen farmers who served their states and fought under the Battle Flag of the Stars and Bars (BTW that was not the national flag), and we'll maintain the monuments to them, but the War Between the states ended 150 years ago, the Rainbow Division was formed almost 100 years ago. It's all an important part of history, no need for flags.

It's been a disastrous issue for Republican Presidential candidates who literally cowered from what was their very first test as a potential National leader.
EVEN Republicans admit their potentials failed this test.
But Hilary......Hilary,Hilary,Hilary.......man Hilary took a baseball bat to the head of this crisis, cracked that bitch wide open and stated here's where I stand, like it or lump it this is what we're going to do.
Hilary owned this leadership test.

John McLaughlin, Former CIA Deputy Director, on Domestic ISIS Terror Threats on FOX Business:
Melissa Francis: ...That is the 10th arrest of an ISIS supporter here at home in just this last month. 10 in this past month. Our next guest warns that ISIS could be winning the war...
McLaughlin: ...The volume of threats is increasing dramatically and could really tax our ability to keep up with them. You mention that we have had 10 attempted attacks in the last month. If you went back a couple of years when we used to tally these up, typically we'd say that we had maybe 40 to 45 of those over the period of maybe a decade. So the pace of these threats is accelerating...
Melissa: Why is it that you say, and it's frightening coming from a former CIA Deputy Director, why is it that you say that they could win this was?
McLaughlin: I'm trying to draw attention to the realities we face. When you look at what we're doing...let me specify first, that this is a very hard problem for anyone to deal with, so I'm not just criticizing our Government to say we're not doing anything...But a couple things have to occur for us to win and defeat this group. We have to take back territory on the ground, and we haven't done that in substantial measure. Their great appeal comes from their success, and now they've been occupying Iraq's second largest city for close to a year. The second thing we have to do is find some way diplomatically or otherwise to satisfy the grievances of the large Sunni population that comprises about 70% of Syria and about 30% of Iraq. That is the underlying engine that drives the recruitment of people, about a thousand a month we hear, into ISIS, so we are not really making a lot of progress on those 2 things.
