Miss Marple

Perry is on Brett Baier's show. He is doing pretty well.

Jane

I hope you are right Maryrose.

Extraneus

From Iggy's link:

But consider the other justices who signed on to his opinion. During her confirmation hearings to be solicitor general, Elena Kagan was asked, flat-out, "Do you believe there is a federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage?"

She replied: "There is no federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage."

So either Kagan evolved in lock-step with her patron, President Obama, or she was flat lying during her confirmation-which suggests that all assumptions of transparency and good-faith regarding congressional confirmations are now inoperable. So we cannot trust the people who are nominated to high office to acknowledge their views truthfully before the citizenry. And we cannot trust them to adhere to actual law and jurisprudence once ensconced in their unelected office.

Who was dumb enough to assume that?

Miss Marple

Let's review Senator Mikulski's incoherent email to Hillary:

"Am so glad to hear frm you/Hi knew this was painful combined with logistics of being a woman--know. How streddful this must be----the other night the. Senate. Women had dinner anyway---all sent good words. And encouragement. To a woman theyb all said. Oh my imagine just getting dressed and the. Hair thing. Get your therapy. Get better. The senate is slogging along health care is starting to sag. --- some days it feels like we are doing the public option off backof envelope. Call when you can. X."

A friend just texted me that she thinks CHER writes better and makes more sense!

henry

MissM, perhaps the Senator was a martini or three past the ability to make sense. Seems like normal operating mode (both parties) to me.

Extraneus

Leave Senator Mikulski alone! She is one of our betters and deserves respect!

Captain Hate on the iPad

Even with as politicized as everything is under 404, you have to assume security warnings are legit. That said it would make no sense to do it while 404 is hollowing out what's left of the military and the buffoonish excuse for an opposition party sits around drunk on their dead asses. An attack might actually rouse the voters to demand a change.

BWTFDIK, terrorists don't behave logically.

maryrose

I have always felt that other nations don't really understand our Independence Day and some probably don't even know what day it is

Jack is Back!

In 1995 I went to the July 4th celebration at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires and met Bill Butterworth (aka W.E.B, Griffin) as well as his son. He introduced me to the CIA station chief who I had known as the commercial attache whom we had many discussions. Over cigars and some damn good port we all had a hearty laugh.

My most memorable experience in that special hell hole but one I would live in an nano second just for the hospitality, wine and music:)

rse

I can remember being at the pub the 18th hole in St Andrews, Scotland for the 4th of July with a bunch of college students. Everyone was so gracious about it being our holiday.

Of course it was good that the McEnroe Bjorn Borg tennis match at Wimbledon was finally over.

rse

19th Hole.

Extraneus

'I am a follower of Christ': County clerk resigns rather than issue gay marriage licenses

maryrose

I remember being inRome Italy in75 for the 4th of July and how strange it felt

Miss Marple

Extraneus, Did you read the comments?

They haven't remove the rainbow shading from their icons so it's easy to see them swarming and attacking.

General gist with the rainbows is that she shouldn't be praised, she's a believer in a fairy tale, plus what if she gave licenses to atheiists?

So amazingly anti-Christian. I never thought in my life I would see such stuff.

Extraneus

Too many idiot comments, MM.

Jane

Is Friday an holiday?

maryrose

MM
Sometimes one people get what they want they become insufferable about it
Like the reformed drunk the no longer smoking smoker and in this case the new liberty has made the person judgmental Unchristian and insulting
I give the example of Rosie ODonnell
Her partner and she flew to San Fran so GAvin Newsome could marry them
5 years later they are divorced and Rosie is feared by her former wife

maryrose

Also Rosie argued for adoption rights for gay parents who are married

henry

Jane, yes. Friday is the observed day off because indepedence day is on Saturday.

Jack is Back!

My pick for a 4th isis attack is St. Pat's in NYC. Not because I will be therer for the 10:15 mass by Cardinal Dolan but because it is emblamnica of Christianity in Ameirica. Pray it doesn't happen but we will still be there.

Going in to the City for the 4th fireworks off a friend's new boat in the harbor. Film at 11.

Jane

Thanks Henry. People keep talking about a 4 day week and I couldn't quite figure it out. The travails of having your own business.

Miss Marple

Thanks for talking about Friday being a holiday. I assume that means there will be no mail, which is important information for me!

Illinois facing partial government shutdown amid fiscal crisis

The newly elected Republican governor and Democrats have been at a stalemate for weeks over the 2016 budget.

The Land of Lincoln has the nation’s largest state-level deficit, worst-funded pension system, and lowest credit rating.

Rauner has said, though, he won’t agree to the tax increases Democrats want unless they approve measures to make the state friendlier to business.

Caught in the middle of the stand-off are more than 65,000 state employees who aren’t all sure if they’ll get paid during a partial government shutdown.

Aw.

Captain Hate on the iPad

According to a website since July 4 would be a normal mail delivery day, that's the only non delivery day and Friday should be a regular day.

Jane

You know, reading Sutlan Knish, I think the takeover is pretty well complete. I refuse any compromise, but I'm pretty sure we have already lost.

Perhaps our last chance is to split the country in 2.

Here is Knish: http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/2015/06/no-truce-with-left.html

Jane

And all this time, we thought we were winning.

Gentlejim

Jane, A concern in the small town I work is that attacks will target small town America this weekend.

Stephanie, I agree that the hiring of Dayspring is troubling. He seems like the kind of guy that I'd like to see die in a fire.

Eric in Boise

My pick for a 4th isis attack is St. Pat's in NYC

I'm only halfway joking when I tell people that one of the things I like best about Boise is that nobody knows where it is.

"You're from Boise? My sister-in-law is originally from Des Moines. Is that close?"

Miss Marple

Gentlejim,

That is my concern as well. Especially since ISIS posted the map of the FBI control centers set up for coordinating. I noticed that 2 states were absent: Montana and North Dakota.

Small towns and sparsely populated states would be easily attacked. They don't have lots of cops and they are used to thinking they are remote from this. (Eric in Boise, pay attention.)

I am concerned about all of the places that have fireworks displays and parades, including my small suburban town just south of Indianapolis.

Well, we will see. I am pretty much at home this weekend and will have TV on. I certainly hope this is a false alarm, although Peter King was just on Fox and was really serious about how dangerous this is.

Captain Hate on the iPad

Peter King is a RINO blowhard on everything except terrorism.

Miss Marple

Captain Hate,

Agree. He was really serious about it, said it was worse than anything he has seen since 9/11.

Publius

Today is Canada Day in the land to the north of us. Is that like our Independence Day, or something?

henry

I think it's just the official rollover between last hockey season and next hockey season.

matt

MM, remember, the populations in a lot of those small towns are very well armed. It's the history and culture, and an awful lot of vets live in those towns as well. They are where our country draws its military from these days. Places like Georgia or Oklahoma or Texas. They're not coming from New York or Boston or San Francisco.

Speaking of which I wanted bunting, because a lot of our new neighbors do it. I went first to Lowe's which sucks and is overpriced anyway. They had a few flags and that was about it. Then on to Target. Fake fireworks. The little pussy kind. That was it.

Then Walgreens. one small shelf of novelties. then the supermarket. Again almost nothing.

It came to me that most of strip mall/big mall America is run by people in places like Chicago and New York and in Target's case, Minneapolis. They have as little in common with the majority of Americans as they do with Kalahari bushmen today.

I'm a Northern man through and through but I may have to affix a Confederate battle flag to my bumper just to protect the right to free speech.

Gentlejim

Well, I'm going to be very busy at work the next four days. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend. I'll try to lurk when I can.

Miss Marple

matt, Don't know where you are.

Here there are all sorts of fireworks (even in the grocery store) and temporary stores and stands set up with them. Menards has gobs of stuff like flags. (Didn't check Lowes as they are too far away.)

My small town, suburban division, had their fireworks and parade last weekend, to avoid conflict with the big deal in Indianapolis. No problems here, but the early celebration might have thrown jihadists off.

Miss Marple

Gentlejim,

Have a safe and joyful Independence Day!

Attacking his kids is not going to make Trump fold up and go away.

If these creeps keep it up, I will end up pushing him instead of Carly Fiorina.

Janet

Hillary was also corresponding with Sandy Berger - http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2015/07/exclusive-new-revelations-from-hillary.html

Captain Hate on the iPad

Not that Trump needs me to carry his water but his high handed dismissal by NBC reminds me of when ESPN fired Rush for being "too controversial" in a bit of commentary on McNabb, which echoed what more than a few fans were saying, which was surely why they hired him in the first place. Likewise Trump was a loud blowhard who took glee (I guess because I never watched it) in gruffly canning people and is now being let go for similar behavior.

Cispigmented Heteronormative Microagressive Ignatz

--If these creeps keep it up, I will end up pushing him instead of Carly Fiorina.--

I know. Like matt, I'll have a confederate battle flag on one side of my bumper and Trump for President on the other, just because I'm not supposed to, even though I think he's a chump and rue the many beautiful Dodge Chargers defaced by that stupid flag.

Miss Marple

Ignatz,

The Left ALWAYS overreaches. I am old enough to list the many times they have done it. (Think Jane Fonda, for example.)

They are going to enrage the average people and drive them away from the democrats.

I think in a way, Trump is doing us and all Americans a service, because they are revealing themselves for what they are, and because it's Trump, LIV's will notice.

Miss Marple

Heading to bed.

"the hiring of Dayspring is troubling. He seems like the kind of guy that I'd like to see die in a fire"

Scott Walker has seen the face the left hides from the public. One of the reasons he is hated and feared is because they know he has seen that face and knows what it is.

I really hope this is an indication that Scott Walker knows what needs to be done and the kind of people who can do it.

More than his knee, back, swing, lack of confidence or anything else, I think his chase of the tail was and remains his downfall.

It would be a tactical error, IMO, to pursue Chisolm to the gates of hell prior to Shirley exhausting all appeals. I expect Chisolm's to be granted only qualified immunity regarding his storm trooper tactics and trial of the civil case will establish the facts necessary to bust through full immunity.

Chisolm is in the mill now - why should Walker intervene or interfere while the grinding proceeds?

Whew. Been almost completely offline since we left NC last Friday. Fun Fun Fun!

Someday I may tell the tale of the camping trip I took with the kids in Colorado before we picked up mrs hit and run. But for now let's just say there was sickness aplenty and a late night scramble to get back to lower elevation. It's funny in hindsight - but was kinda tough at the time.

Today we made our trip to Yellowstone. I think this is the 132nd time I've been. Or something. I stopped counting some time ago. Heading in via West Yellowstone - the park entrance was an absolute zoo. More cars than anyone has seen. But once we got on the roads it wasn't so bad.

Long story short we saw seven bears today. Unheard of in our long history in the park. First was a mom and two cubs just as you enter the Lamar Valley. The cubs had climbed a big pine before we got there and then we got to see momma leap onto the trunk and shimmy on up.

Then saw a cub headed back toward Canyon. Didn't see momma, but assume she was just over the hill. Then a short distance later we saw a lone bear out in a field.

Next came the grizzly between Lake and West Thumb. Great views on that one - he was just feeding away in a clearing.

I mean, at this point we were all kinda laughing at our fortune with the bears. Then, as we're headed south on the Rockefeller Parkway, we come up over a hill and see a figure on the side of the road. My dad cracks a joke about it being a bear - thinking it was really a cyclist or something. And then as we got closer - it actually was a bear, just sauntering up the shoulder toward us. We stopped about a hundred yards short - and he just moseys on up beside us before casually drifting off the road and into the woods.

Amazing.

Anyway, I'm already way over my limit on self-imposed internet restrictions just by getting on and posting this.

Hope everyone is misbehaving as inappropriately as you can get away with.

Hugs and kisses.

Jane on Ipad

We had a bear at the post office once.

Up and at 'em with the beagles for an early morning walk. Been treating them for kennel cough they picked up in Boston even though they had vaccination. Vet said its about 75% effective and you will pick it up because it's very contagious.

Don't know if anyone else watched the England v. Japan WWC semi last night but it ended in misery for England when they scored an own goal with less than a minute left in the game. The young lass was devastated and had to be helped off the field.

Stephanie, I'll bet each serious candidate has a Machiavellian type on board. I agree with boris: This is another sign that Walker knows what he'll be facing.

This strikes me as unfortunately quite accurate about the real impact of what Kennedy and the Prog bloc have now decreed. http://www.city-journal.org/2015/eon0701af.html

We are about to see a great deal of the socialist use of the law. The law as a means of destroying the individual out of sync with the herd. Precisely what the Constitution was designed to prevent.

Marlene

Hi,we're at the cabin,my mother is spending the week-end. Beautiful sunny morning here.

Extraneus

Via Howard Kurtz:

Take the case of Les Gelb, a longtime New York Times reporter and a State Department official in the Carter administration, who wanted to profile Hillary for Parade magazine.

As Democratic fundraiser Lynn Forester de Rothschild wrote her, “He would like to do a day in your life, when you meet with members of Congress and international figures. He wants to show the impact you are having domestically and internationally. He said he would give you a veto over content and looked me in the eye and said, ‘she will like it’.”

A veto over content! That is a journalistic no-no, ceding control to your subject in exchange for access. Gelb denied making such a promise, telling Politico that was BS and that he only cleared the piece for fact-checking and made no changes.

Clinton’s response—besides asking whether it would be a cover story--was to set things up for Gelb’s benefit: “We should create a day--meeting w Webb about Burma, McCain/Lieberman/Graham about Af-Pak, etc. Meeting w Mitchell/Holbrooke etc.”

Gelb’s 2009 piece began: “‘We’re going to work you to death,’ Hillary Clinton promised me with a laugh …‎ W‎hat I think I glimpse beneath the unflagging smile and constant concentration is a very tired person—tense, frustrated, but absolutely determined to make her tenure as Secretary of State a success and to accomplish important things.”

Deja vu, all over again.

Washington Navy Yard locked down over reports of a shooter on the loose there.

Captain Hate on the iPad

Too bad we don't have an opposition party to stress how the concept of individuality is under attack from the same crew of dumbasses who used to claim to celebrate it. That is a concept that is easy to grasp and defend.

James D

CH, the majority of the GOPe doesn't have any more liking for individuality than the progs do. They wouldn't be supporting Common Core, massive levels of immigration and all of the other crap they do, otherwise.

Captain Hate on the iPad

Yes, James; as we prepare for the nation's birthday it's pretty depressing to contemplate how far we've drifted from the founding principles and how neither major party is bothered by that.

rse

It's because both parties rely on the cronyism that goes with politically imposed economic development. Think of all the rural areas and desperate urban areas and they still have legislators and Congressmen. They want to believe that pols can decree prosperity in a region.

Nothing like covering 1700 miles over 5 days to make me mull over the implications of what I get to read about every day.

henry

Buckeye, at this rate we might as well fly the Jolly Roger.

James D

THe Founders created a Constitution and a government that was expressly designed to combat and counteract the failings of human nature.

Everything about the Constitution is built to limit government, to reduce the power available to it generally, and to any one branch (or person) within it.

It's no surprise that both parties attack it at every opportunity. And it's why compromise is impossible, and the Tea Party is essential. It's also why we have to push CONSTANTLY against not just the progs and the GOPe, but even against our own closest allies, the moment they show the slightest sign of wavering.

Buckeye

"at this rate we might as well fly the Jolly Roger"

most appropriately flown over the White House.
