I wonder how soon it will be when an illegal immigrant will run for President and lead in the Democrat primary?

Speaking of black protesters, did you see that Anthony Hervey, the black confederate flag fan who was killed in a car accident, was apparently being chased by black anti-flag protesters?

OK, so here's my question, since Trump may have shot himself in the foot.

Will any other GOP candidate actually speak to the people who were responding to Trump? Will any of them address their fears and their anger at being lied to and ignored for years? Will any of them be willing to talk about unpleasant truths that everyone knows, but which politicians and the MSM have been doing their best to pretend aren't so?

We can dispute the number of illegal immigrants here. We can dispute the degree to which they contribute to unemployment and lower wages for American citizens. We can dispute the amount of crime they cause.

But nobody can dispute that there are a lot more of them here than the government tells us. Or that they do contribute to some degree to unemployment and lower wages. Or that they increase crime by some degree.

Everyone knows this. The people who are listening to Trump know it, and see it in their communities, and they're either already harmed by it, or justifiably afraid of the harm that will come to them soon enough.

As cameras rolled, Scott Walker was confronted in Iowa by an illegal alien and his two children. More such are said to follow. Apparently, Walker handled the situation in his typical stellar manner, as the episode isn't being replayed 24/7.

Miss Marple

JamesD,

The problem is that almost every candidate is of the political class and people are mistrustful, given the experience of the last few years.

Walker possibly, because he is a known quantity with a record of actually doing something. Fiorina maybe, because she speaks in non-political, precise words and emphasizes that the Founders wanted a citizen government, not professional government types.

Other than that, I don't think any of them can do it. Certainly none of the senators. Perry has shot himself in the foot with the Trump supporters by his over-the-top attacks from the get-go. Perhaps Jindal. No on Kasich, who is fond of telling us how government has to help the poor or he won't get into heaven or something.

That's my take on it, anyway.

I noticed on Twitter this morning that the anti-Trump people are now mad at Steyn, by the way.

Jeff,

I believe those comments referred to my comment about Perry having hired Schmidt and the resultant over-the-top comments about Trump by Perry.

James D

I agree, MM.

All I can say is, the R's had better figure this out quickly.

They don't need to scream at the top of their lungs, or make ridiculous, over-the-top promises.

They need to TELL THE TRUTH. And call things for what they are.

The voters know that the economy still sucks, no matter what stats Obama throws out there. They know that our military is weaker, and the world is becoming more dangerous every day. They know that there's more crime, and more racial strife. They know it, because unlike the politicans in the DC bubble, they are LIVING IT EVERY DAY.

If the R's aren't interested in doing that, then a lot of those voters are going to stay home, or vote for a Dem. It's really that simple.

Jack is Back!

Interesting stats from Allahpundit re Trump v. Walker and Bush. Looks like Bush and Rubio's immigration stances won't fly with most Republicans. Go Walker!

rse

I am still annoyed that Rubio changed his position from when he ran for the Senate and also that he abstained from voting last week on the K-12 ESEA Rewrite Opt Out measure.

Mustn't violate the position of his mentor jeb or annoy potential voters. That was a weasel, spineless position to take on an important matter. Plus I always hated that he did not want to anger his wife who has social friends who are illegals. I thought that was rather spineless too. Very disappointing.

Someone at HotAir named TAYLOR MILLARD writes this in a piece about the woman who mysteriously (?) died in a Texas prison cell:

It is illegal in Texas, and pretty much every other state, for people to turn or change lanes without signaling. This is an important thing to consider when looking at Bland’s arrest. It’s absolutely ridiculous there are laws on the books requiring the use of turn signals. This falls under the legislation of common sense. Yes, people should use their turn signals when changing lanes. Yes, it makes sense for people to avoid texting while behind the wheel or to make sure they have a bluetooth or hands-free device. But the government has no business regulating this type of behavior. All it does is make politicians feel good about knowing they can run on the, “oh we’re trying to keep people safe” ticket.

Er, why read this idiot any further? I didn't.

I cannot find the original article, but it was copied onto another blog out there (bolding mine):

Homaidan Al-Turki says he was targeted by prosecutors because of his Muslim religion.

By Felix Doligosa Jr., Rocky Mountain News
September 1, 2006

CENTENNIAL - Sniffles and sobs resonated in a packed courtroom Thursday as a Saudi man convicted of sexually assaulting his Indonesian housekeeper was sentenced Thursday to 20 years to life in prison.

Homaidan Al-Turki, 37, was also ordered to serve eight additional years for theft charges.

He denied in Arapahoe County District Court that he enslaved the woman and said authorities targeted him because of his religion.

"Your honor, I am not here to apologize, for I cannot apologize for things I did not do and for crimes I did not commit," he told Judge Mark Hannen.

"The state has criminalized these basic Muslim behaviors. Attacking traditional Muslim behaviors was the focal point of the prosecution," he said.

Obama's butt buddy, Bean, ought to try this angle.

Feds spend $125,000 studying sexist adjectives

The National Science Foundation (NSF) tasked the University of Kansas with conducting the study last year.

“The proposed research predicts that stereotypes activate different standards of judgments for members of different groups; therefore, evaluations (adjectives) mean different things depending on the person described,” according to the grant for the study.

“For example, in a masculine work domain where women are stereotyped as less competent, ‘good’ for a woman may mean something objectively less good than ‘good’ for a man,” it said.

DebinNC

The study will concentrate on sexist adjectives in "letters of recommendation" on behalf of female applicants? Maybe there needs to be a study on why females don't choose better recommenders.

I wish we had 1000 more Mr. Bramans. But this bothered me:

"The reliance on Mr. Braman is likely to put a spotlight on the finances of Mr. Rubio, who ranks among the least-wealthy candidates in the emerging Republican field. Mr. Rubio left the Florida House of Representatives in 2008 with a net worth of $8,351, multiple mortgages and $115,000 in student debt. In his latest financial disclosure form, for 2013, he reported at least $450,000 in liabilities, including two mortgages and a line of credit. Mr. Braman and aides to Mr. Rubio have declined to say how much personal financial assistance he has provided to Mr. Rubio and his wife, directly or indirectly, but it appears to total in the hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Mr. Braman financed Rubio's book, which allowed him to pay off his student loans. He got Rubio the college gig and Mrs. Rubio a similar job to help pay down their debts. Fine, but it doesn't speak well of Rubio that he needed such help, or it at least makes me wonder where the Rubios would be without Mr. Braman's help. But that's just my opinion as someone whose home was paid off in 5 yrs. and never bought a new car prior to 2010.

Well America's first national grocery chain, A & P, has filed for Chap 22 Bankruptcy protection. Chap 22 is when a company files chap 11 twice. A & P managed the turn in less than 5 years.

A lot of the mainstream media recitations dont include anything about the unions being responsible, but in large measure they are. The union contracts had bumping provisions, where employees at a closed store could "bump" lesser seniority employees at nearby stores such that closing an unprofitable store might make your wage costs unprofitable at the nearby store, since it will have a mix of only long term higher paid employees.

Ahhh but the beauty of BK is those contracts with the unions are voidable, and will be voided, as profitable stores will be sold to competitors and unprofitable stores closed.

Unions believe the same nonsense that Syriza believes so the hard lesson will probably escape them here...

You all will remember my discussion of Pence and how he had damaged himself politically with the unnecessary RFRA controversy.

His attorney general (an elected position) is running for Congress instead of re-election to the AG position. And John Gregg, a southern Indiana old school democrat, has amassed a war chest as big as Pence's.

This is serious because Pence might not have the clout to help in carrying the state for the GOP in the presidential election.

"I don't think that there is any evidence it was ISIL-inspired. He may have been seeking some religious guidance to conduct an act. He could readily find that anywhere online," a senior official briefed on the investigation told ABC News.

Now that senior official used "religious guidance" in the context of talking about Islam, so I don't think he meant "generalized religious inspiration." In fact, it's arguably worse that it's not ISIS-inspired, since it shows that there is broader support in Islam for this type of action.
