Canadian-born U.S. Senator Ted Cruz was confronted by Fusion TV's Jorge Ramos over his Article II presidential ineligibility. Ramos asked if the U.S. Supreme Court should decide whether he's a U.S. citizen.
Cruz doubled down that he's a natural born Citizen under the Nationality Act of 1790 ignoring the fact that the Act is no longer operable and the Act had the natural born Citizen wording removed several years later.
Cruz cited several examples that hurt his flawed argument. All candidates he cited were born to two citizen parents.
Cruz's father did not become a U.S. citizen until 2005!
The study notes that the link seemed greater in the areas where there was more ultraviolet exposure.
Could it be simply that more people eat citrus daily in places where they GROW citrus, like Florida and California, which coincidentally are areas where people get more exposure to the sun?
" I've been working with the industry for a very long time, 26 years. I have never seen as many rulemaking initiatives as I have with this administration. It has just been completely insane. You know, I'm not saying it's necessary, but it would be really great when — take a tiny industry like fireworks, and we've got to comply with ATF, CPSC, EPA, OSHA, multiple divisions of the Department of Transportation, it's really challenging. It would be great if we could have one agency that took care of everything, and I'm sure there are other industries that are also feeling that pain, but it has been very significant."
I second the rec of that Belmont Club link from Fernandez.
And a Bloody Mary does sound nice. Of course the Human Eating Machine is due in for the weekend so I need to stay prepared to whip up entire feasts at a moment's notice or to clean up the 3 skillets used when he decides to cook.
Happy almost 4th everyone. May all the fireworks be those we have planned for.
You made me laugh with the description of "Human Eating Machine."
Grandson got back from the cruise last weekend. Gained 4 pounds from eating the vast quatities of food, including the fancy dinner with 2 shrimp cocktails, duck a l'orange, and 2 steaks! (He's 18.)
Grandson also is all set for university with classes, id card, room assignment, etc. He's opted for early move-in to avoid the chaos of the first day (you pay a little extra for this but it's worth it, since stuff has to go up an elevator to his room.)
His mother told me that now you don't take quarters to the laundry. You buy a laundry card and swipe it, and then when your load is done the machine sends a message to your phone! (I can see that no matterhow hard I try, I can't keep up with the new technology.)
Tk, you're very late to the Party. The Constitution has been cancelled. Yes!!!
It was written by NONCISNORMATIVE RACIST WHITE DUDES, none of them named Caitlyn.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Trump is “wrong.”
"Maybe we'll have a chance to have an honest discussion about it on stage," Bush said last weekend while campaigning in Nevada.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called Trump’s comments “wholly inappropriate” during a news conference. In a subsequent radio interview, Christie described Trump as "a really wonderful guy (who's) always been a good friend."
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said Thursday "Trump's comments are not just offensive and inaccurate, but also divisive," said Rubio, a Hispanic. "Our next president needs to be someone who brings Americans together — not someone who continues to divide."
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday: "I don't think Donald Trump's remarks reflect the Republican Party."
Other candidates such as Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former IBM executive Carly Fiorina and retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson have not made any sort of statement on Trump’s comments.
Apparently even one of the Tyler Durdens at Zero Hedge believes there is no end to OPM and those who break themselves by living beyond their means are entitled to all the OPM they desire.
I hope I've already proven I'm no fan of Trump, but I think it was pretty clear he was referring to illegals and, if it wasn't, his and his daughter's further comments showed he was.

Might've been what he meant (though deciphering what's going on in his head strikes me as a fool's errand) . . . but it's not what he said:
When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.
The speech was a goldmine of other gaffes as well. Not that he had any chance of being elected anyway, but . . . The only real impact he has in the race is as a distraction; which further increases the chances the GOP will do something catastrophic like nominate Bush.
Fayetteville police say Bryan Scott Wolfinger, 25, was arrested and charged with "going armed to the terror of the public" in connection with Thursday's incident at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.
The only real impact he has in the race is as a distraction; which further increases the chances the GOP will do something catastrophic like nominate Bush.
Since without Trump we got two GOPe tomato cans inflicted on us, I'll take my chances. Btw you're arguing as if the GOP has a choice on whether to let him run or not; how does that work?
Btw I think it's hilarious how NBC has ejected Trump while having an admitted liar on their news staff along with a race baiter who was at least indirectly responsible for the deaths of people he was demonizing. The ZH piece was a bit silly. The IMF suddenly discovered debt relief when Greece defaulted on a payment to the IMF. The IMF always envisions central bank idiots taking a haircut while the IMF just extends terms to eternity. The IMF also knows that Uncle Sugar (as embodied in the legislature) is going to be very reluctant to bail out EUtopia.
I certainly can't predict the outcome but I know Ukraine is going to default this month and join Greece in rattling the beggar's cup. I also know that the IMF thieves' actions wrt Cyprus explain Putin's seizure of Ukrainian capital better than "Russian expansionism".
The wheels are coming off the EUtopian wagone and there's not a damned thing the EUnuchs can do about it.
Seriously? Pretend you're one of the several million people in this country who've immigrated from Mexico . . . or one of their descendants . . . or family members.
Btw you're arguing as if the GOP has a choice on whether to let him run or not; how does that work?
Nonsense CT:
1) They are not going to push Bush forward because of something Trump said--they will do it because they are corrupt oligarchs.
2) Trump is only saying what almost everyone outside the Left feels to be true, or at least a substantial plurality. They have a point and I challenge you to objectively prove what Trump said is not objectively true. Obama is gleefully putting criminals into the population just to disrupt society. Are we to ignore it?
3) The Left has gone full tilt now at silencing politically incorrect statements; they have done this not just through the courts, but through public intimidation as well, and soon it will advance to outright physical intimidation on the street and in the home. This is exactly what the Soviets, the ChiCOm and the Nazis did. They got way with it because nobody stood up to them.
5) All of this must be forced into the public debate. To do otherwise is surrender.
The Left is actually counting on your type of response.
We are substantially beyond politics now. This maybe pour last chance to pull things back into politics. "Prior Restraint" is no solution.
there's a more tactful way to put it, and based on Trump's record, I concur with Cecil, however the Huntress tried to be more accurate for 6 years and we know where that went,
I have thought for a long time that Trump was a meglomaniac, overbearing and a loud mouth who has a habit of shooting first and aiming later.
Having said that, I also get quite a bit of pleasure that he is drawing attention to issues in a very unpolitically correct manner with a big megaphone.
The left protects outrageous behavior in the "art" community as standard operating procedure.
Is freedom of expression in art any more important than freedom of expression in politics?
CT: Imagine that you are one of the million of Americans who are losing their nation, culture and very civilization. Oh that right, you are--you just do not seem to understand what is really going on.
You are carrying water for our enemies, and doing so unwittingly by stooping to obsolete political calculation and indulging in a sentimental "White Knighting" of people that in the main do not care or even understand what the USA once was and should be again.
When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically.
The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems.
(APPLAUSE)
Thank you. It’s true, and these are the best and the finest. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.
But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people.
It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably — probably — from the Middle East. But we don’t know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don’t know what’s happening. And it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop fast.(APPLAUSE)
I guess Trump's track record erases any clarification he made after his announcement speech, even though it should be obvious as to which group he is talking about.
when was that TK, when he lavished donations on the Democrats, when he went along with 'Bush lied us into war' when he slobbered all over zaphod in the first year, actions count as loud as words on occasion,
If you are referring to the paragraph about Trump, those are the words of the author of the piece, not mine.
Although I wholeheartedly agree with it.
I don't like Ann Coulter very much due to her bomb-throwing at inopportune times, but she has dug up a bunch of interesting facts about immigration in her latest book, including how the government makes every attempt to obfuscate figures on how many are criminals, how many are sick, how many are released, etc.
And the fact is, as someone else said, it's not like they are sending PhD-types over the border.
Besides the disruption in the economy caused by a bunch of poorly-educated low-skill workers injected into the work force and the drain on health care, my major concern about that border is the infiltration of ISIS-types.
I have been worried about the border since 2001. At first I thought Bush wouldclose it, then I thought maybe he hd worked out a deal with Mexico to trap Arab-types trying to sneak in.
Alas, I have to admit that I think this was a failure of Bush and for reasons unknown to me. But failure it was.
And Obama has gone from ignoring it to actively inviting people to come in, no doubt with malicious intent.
So if Trump says a few inpolitic things about Mexicans, I find I don't care very much. What e got from Mexico under Obama was the Mexican president insulting us in front of Congress.
1) They are not going to push Bush forward because of something Trump said--they will do it because they are corrupt oligarchs.
You miss the point squaredance. Yes, they will continue to push Bush, and unless conservatives coalesce around another candidate, they will outlast us (just as they did with Mitt). And as long as we're arguing about an unelectable fool, we're not making headway.
Trump is only saying what almost everyone outside the Left feels to be true, or at least a substantial plurality.
He's going to negotiate a deal with China? He's going to have the Mexicans pay for a wall he'll build? He'd have kept ISIS's oil after he didn't invade Iraq? You have to pick pretty carefully to find truth in there.
The Left has gone full tilt now at silencing politically incorrect statements;
The left isn't silencing the Donald, they love him. A few of the millions of people he directly insulted are responding (some inappropriately).
All of this must be forced into the public debate. To do otherwise is surrender.
Well, I'll give you the fact that he can get stuff into the public debate. But only because the media will cover GOPers acting stupidly.
Jeb Bush first stepped in it Monday when Fox News’ Megyn Kelly asked if he would have invaded Iraq in 2003 “knowing what we know now” — that U.S. intelligence proved to be faulty and Saddam Hussein didn’t have weapons of mass destruction. Yes, he replied.
The next day, Bush took to Sean Hannity’s radio show to explain he misinterpreted the question and called it a “hypothetical” he couldn’t answer. On Day 3, Bush’s line was that such questions do a “disservice” to those who perished in the war.
By the fourth day, Bush had finally settled on a clear answer: “Knowing what we know now, I would not invade.”
I hope Trump doesn't evolve like Bush did in less than a week.
Bush sounds like an idiot in that series of responses. He first needed to correct Magpie on the WMD tripe she upchucks like an anorexic birdbrain. And should further point out what 404 has screwed up.
I tried to post earlier but typepad ate it. Two years ago today I learned that my son had a rare fracture of the head of his femur requiring emergency surgery. I asked my fellow JOMers to pray for him, which many of you did. Today two years later, I am happy to report that he is doing extremely well, with no symptoms. Thanks to all.
In the last few cycles there has been someone getting attention by going against conventional illusions.
Like Sara, like Newt, like Trump.
The first two of those have some actual you know credibility.
Trump on the other hand has what seems to be thicker armor and a bigger hammer to hit back with. Add the Biden-like ability to brush off gaffs and I think he might accomplish some battlespace prep that candidates like Cruz and Walker can take advantage of.
Bush sounds like an idiot in that series of responses. He first needed to correct Magpie on the WMD tripe she upchucks like an anorexic birdbrain.
Notice the lack of quotes? Because he didn't say that, and neither did she. The actual quotes:
MK: "Knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion?"
JEB: "I would have, and so would have Hillary Clinton, and so would have almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got. In retrospect the intelligence that everybody saw, that the world saw, not just the United States, was faulty."
He claimed to've misheard, but I think he just regurgitated the talking point and ignored the actual question.
Listening to National Progressive Radio yesterday afternoon I heard some outraged African American professor demanding that we re-name all Military bases named after Confederate generals. The hate never stops.
BTW, anyone who has any interest in tennis at all should try to catch a replay of the Brown-Nadal match yesterday. Watched it last night, the most entertaining tennis I've seen in years, at least since Fabrice Santoro retired. Old-fashioned chip and charge, drop shots, 2nd serves as hard as 1st serves, all by a 6'5" 170 lb guy in dredlocks. Some highlights here:
jimmyk, I did see parts of the first set live. It was very entertaining, and Brown clearly has Nadal's number. Brown's mother is German, his father is Jamaican, and the family moved from Germany to Jamaica when he was eleven. He does need to visit a barber shop, however.
To clarify, when Kelly says "knowing what we know now" it's a very unspecific question and the responder either has to ask what she's referring to or has to state exactly what he's answering. I don't think it's a very good question at all and somebody at Rove News Channel should tell her so.
The drug war marches on; a retired marine with PTSD who couldn't tolerate the SSRIs they put him on grew 6 marijuana plants totaling less than an ounce for self medication and faces a maximum term of life in prison. They told his wife they'd charge her too and take their children if she didn't accuse him of assault, a charge she says is false.
They have a gofundme page. Surprised they let a guy accused of a crime raise money. Guess he's lucky he didn't refuse to bake a gay couple any brownies.
Pretend you're one of the several million people in this country who've immigrated from Mexico . . . or one of their descendants . . . or family members.
We can't voluntarily allow that to be the standard for debate on the matter of illegal immigration.
Have any of the GOP hopefuls answered Kelly's question by using 404's losing strategy as a "what we now know" reason to retroactively be against it? If not, that's disappointing.
Look what fruitcakes did to Obama's melanin.

The wheels are coming off the EUtopian wagone and there's not a damned thing the EUnuchs can do about it.

Which sentence in that paragraph was the gaffe?
Seriously? Pretend you're one of the several million people in this country who've immigrated from Mexico . . . or one of their descendants . . . or family members.
Btw you're arguing as if the GOP has a choice on whether to let him run or not; how does that work?
They can, and should, ignore him. As should we.

Posted by: squaredance | July 03, 2015 at 10:27 AM
there's a more tactful way to put it, and based on Trump's record, I concur with Cecil, however the Huntress tried to be more accurate for 6 years and we know where that went,

Posted by: squaredance | July 03, 2015 at 10:38 AM

Posted by: Threadkiller Mobynatious | July 03, 2015 at 10:42 AM
clarice,
If you are referring to the paragraph about Trump, those are the words of the author of the piece, not mine.
Posted by: Miss Marple | July 03, 2015 at 10:43 AM
The Left has gone full tilt now at silencing politically incorrect statements;

Good news, Peter.
