gonna need more beer. possibly some medicinal shots -- depending on number of genders asked about.

this is the "Facebook" wants to know debate? Boxers v briefs is so 90s... perhaps "do we need to add starts to the flag to represent all the genders?"

Captain Hate

There is no reason they should restrict the participants to 10 (I could whittle it down to who I like but the RINOs could, for a change, justifiably call foul). Another Rupert/Ailes flight of idiocy self inflicted on the Party of Stoopid.

sbwaters

People known for their knowness made the “cut”.

Politics has become cheap because schooling produces a thin audience.

Captain Hate

So it's reduced to just the other boozy nags?

last night's debate was professionally done, I'm not confident this one will be, a little bird told me,

James D

I still think the idea of ten candidates on stage for a two-hour debate is ridiculous.

At best it's 12 minutes per candidate, but once you take out time for the introductions, for the questions to be asked (and then repeated back by each candidate, as everyone does in these things) and then closing remarks by the moderator, you're probably down to 5-7 minutes for each candidate to actually speak, and no doubt a lot of that will be responding to what other candidates said.

narciso

she's just gone honey badger at this point:

Captain Hate

CNN > Rove News Channel?

Roger Ailes < Roger Goodell < Roger Rabbit?

Captain Hate

James, if Chris Wallace is one of the moderators, he'll be sure to waste time by mentioning Facebook about 20 times and plugging Rove News Channel programs.

http://nypost.com/2015/08/03/the-gdps-hilarious-false-numbers/

The revision made to the GDP in the third quarter of 2012 is worth special attention that nobody else has given it. Remember, 2012 was the year of the last presidential election. And the third quarter — July, August and September, with the GDP number announced in October — was smack in the middle of all the action.

Commerce said in that October, just weeks before the election, that the economy was growing at an annualized rate of 2.5 percent.

Now Commerce has corrected the third quarter of 2012 to just 0.5 percent. So Commerce overstated growth in this very important period, as Americans were about to go vote — by a magnitude of five. Commerce said the mistake was caused by changes in “methodology,” especially in the way it deals with defense spending. Seasonal adjustment changes also had an impact.

Lies all the way down. And the press just gobbles them up like Skittles lest their boy king and all the commie Keynesian economists look bad.

Captain Hate

If I were one of the moderators, I'd be sure to ask a question on why the party has been taking such an unpopular stand on illegal immigration and what each candidate's stand on it is.

narciso

not in the eyes of the Ahia GOP, Facebook or NewsCorp, 'from their point of view'

Jeff Dobbs

James:
At best it's 12 minutes per candidate

Except you have to account for commercials:

"The 9 p.m. debate will run about 90 minutes (two hours with commercial breaks)"

squaredance

Not to be picky, but that is a factor of 5, and not a "magnitude".

Dave (in MA)

They should have a speed round at 3PM with all 15 in front of a bunch of Luntz' Duntz's to allow promotion from/demotion to the kiddie table.

I'll take Departments to Eliminate for $200, Alex.

James D

CH @ 1:30

No doubt.

I really think that, just as a practical matter, if the goal is to give voters a good look at the candidates, and to give the candidates a reasonable opportunity to get their positions and priorities across, six is the most people I'd ever want in a debate, and even better four or five.

I don't mean just for this field and this race, but as a general proposition.

I have not seen them,” Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire told me after the vote.

“I’m sorry, what’s your name?” asked Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii in response to a simple yes-or-no question. “Can you call my comms director?”

“I have not seen them, no,” Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania told me last week.

As New York senator Chuck Schumer stepped into a senators-only elevator, I asked him the same yes-or-no question. “Shut the door,” Schumer told an aide.

The courtier ruling class can't be bothered with such trifles as infanticide.

squaredance

Yes, and the more lies, the more impact, and not just in politics: investments, planning, policy legislation--even diplomacy can all go awry due to these sorts of manipulations.

But that is all a part of Marxist-Leninism. Everything outside the party is only meaningful is so far as it advances the Party.

hrtshpdbox

"I'd be sure to ask a question on why the party has been taking such an unpopular stand on illegal immigration.."

Maybe just phrase it "What's the difference between a Republican and a Socialist"? But, really, I'm sure that candidate's views on immigration will be aired, and I'm already wincing at the wild applause for the xenophobic outbursts erupting from Trump's blowhole (presumably and regrettably, that is the "popular stand" you refer to).

pagar

"Now Commerce has corrected the third quarter of 2012 to just 0.5 percent. So Commerce overstated growth in this very important period, as Americans were about to go vote — by a magnitude of five."

Lies that effect elections ought to put the liars in a special hell.

Home from a great meet-up with daddy, who impressed my grandson mightily with his tours of all points in our world. Nate thinks that is the coolest job he has ever heard about.

Daddy's pics of Alaska and Frye were quite cool, and we discussed all things political, switching into things that would get Nate interested when his eyes glazed over with out assessments of Jeb and such. Ha!

Discussed Sharpes series books, development of Indianapolis, last night's forum. boringness of Jeb, particulars of training of certain space agenicies (which I resent them being forced to undergo and me paying for) and a bunch of other stuff.

Great fun and I was very happy to see daddy again!

We then went and got Nate's account set up with Sprint. Very nice guy who is of Indian descent who LOVES antiques and vintage stuff, so I gave him my eBay store address and also the auction house address to look for furniture.

I'm surprised Kasich beat out Perry for the 10th spot. The kiddie table is good too, giving Carly and Perry a chance to shine without being overshadowed by Trump.

The Maunas, Loa and Kea, are among the world's tallest mountains from their base.

Obama and swimming in Hawai'i is almost as funny as Gore's Twenty Million Degrees in the center of the earth. Magnificent oafs, the boafs of 'em.

Now Ararat, that is the biggest looking mountain in the world.

Buckeye

Watched the qualifying for IndyCar race at Mid-Ohio on Saturday.

An interesting method. They have a 1st group of 12 compete for top 6 spots and then 2nd group of 12 compete for another top 6. Then there are some duke it out rounds amongst the best of the 2 groups for starting spots.

Maybe that should be done for debates with viewers voting online to pick the candidates with the best "speed"?

At least there would be a chance to see the most preferred compete against each other.

I noticed that some poll today announced that the weren't doing anymore polling after last nights event. Probably manipulating because they are afraid of the answer.

narciso

Knaves we've long since concluded that.

Miss Marple

I do not see how Jeb Bush will benefit from this. He will be standing right next to Trump.

1. If he ignores Trump and stands there like a potted plant while he's talking, he will be thought of as snooty or cowardly by most people.

2. If he goes after Trump with that same "I want people to know what's in my heart" spiel he will look like a pansy.

3. If he tries to attack Trump he will look defensive.

4. If Trump goes after his brother for the Iraq thing and Jeb doesn't stand up for W, he will look disloyal to his family. If he tries to defend going in, then he will be flipping from his earlier comment.

Trump's fan base, for the most part, are looking for him to tell everyone else they are morons and incompetent, which will get some people upset but will not dissuade his followers one bit. They have the bit in their teeth and they are not going to give up.

So unless Trump has a stroke on stage or something, I do not see how this debate will hurt him, while it will hurt Jeb and possibly a couple of others.

Which all goes to the point I made when this started, that the GOP pundits and consultants shot themselves in the foot by going after Trump AND his followers with such venom.

MM @ 3:20

Your last paragraph is SO true. It's the GOPe and the consultants who have caused all of this.

jimmyk

the GOP pundits and consultants shot themselves in the foot

That seems to be their forte. If they would just aim about 5-6 feet higher we'd all be better off.

narciso

And who warned of the former possibility?

Threadkiller

The more the GOPe screws up the more the Consent Decree seems to be a legitimate concern.

If I was Trump and the Jonah Goldbergs out there started waiving their big tent pledge, to not go third party, at me I would counter by challenging the notion that there are two parties in the first place.

The Decree is, and always has been, a huge problem.

maryrose

Many of the candidates know how politics is a an endurance race
As long as each one stays true to themselves the strong ones will advance
Each one has their individual opportunity to shine
Trump will get the same amount of time as all the others

It's a feature, so better not bug him about it.

Walker could finish his degree online in a moment. Maybe he can be the first President to get his degree while in office. There is a lot he can do with it, something none of the others have. I mean 'a LOT' and 'something NONE'.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/a-clean-energy-breakthrough-1438642705

The EPA’s new rules will fight pollution and climate change, and they are good for the American consumer.

With the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan now final, the era of unlimited carbon pollution from U.S. power plants is finally coming to an end. That’s excellent news, because climate change has put us in the race of our lives—and the countries that move the fastest toward clean energy will be the most competitive, create the most jobs and have the healthiest air. It’s a race to the top, and the Clean Power Plan gives the U.S. a better chance of winning.

Mr. Krupp is the president of the Environmental Defense Fund.
