Oh, good Lord. Put down the bong, BOzo. But, interestingly, he doesn't seem too interested in jobs or good governance in the US. I wonder why.

DebinNC

Kerry really took off the gloves with his incendiary description of Russia's Syria bombing today as "not helpful".

Jeff Dobbs

“This means defeating their ideology,” he said. “Ideologies are not defeated with guns. They are defeated by better ideas — a more attractive and compelling vision.”

Time to repeat that story Obama heard from his grandpa - about his dad walking into a bar with a loudmouthed racist complaining of having to drink next to a black man? You know, the one where Obama's dad defeated the racist's ideology by talking to him about the universal rights of man or whatever. And not only defeated the ideology such that the racist became unracist - but the now unracist bought the drinks for the rest of the night and paid his dad's rent for the next month.

Glory hallelujah.

Jeff Dobbs

to fight violent extremism not just with weapons but with ideas, jobs and good governance

Time to repeat Obama's speech after the shootings at Virgina Tech in 2007? You know, the one where Obama pays lip service to the dozens who were killed and then proceeds to lecture us about "other kinds of violence" - like the violence of kids getting a bad education and the violence of someone having their job shipped overseas and the violence of a radio shock jock calling a college basketball team some mean things that made them feel bad about themselves.

http://www.nytimes.com/1993/08/10/opinion/yes-there-is-a-reason-to-be-in-somalia.html

>>>Success is important not only for the Somalis -- 300,000 people died from war and famine before the United Nations approved intervention -- but also because anarchy may produce refugees, uncontrolled arms peddling and targets of opportunity for terrorists and their state sponsors. But peace cannot be made overnight. It will take time for people who have been shooting at each other to start trusting each other. Combatants must be disarmed, retrained and re-employed. Development aid must be delivered and efficiently used. Democratic institutions must be established. Those who disrupt the peace must be stopped.<<<

The next Speaker of the House,Republican Kevin mcCarthy on the TRUE nature of the Benghazi committee.

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy offered as “one example” of a Republican win in Congress. “But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. Barry apparently ready to abstain on a UN vote brought by Cuba every year condemning the US for our embargo.

Gus, I heard it.

I also heard that the Putin/Obama meeting "wasn't on the operational level" so that's why Putin didn't tell him they were going to bomb the hell out of Syria.

Marvin Kalb, old CBS foreign correspondent now a sometime consultant on Fox, says that Obama and Kerry don't know what to do.

Kalb thinks this is about Putin holding onto power and his fear of national uprisisngs (especially in Moscow).

I don't think so, myself. I think it's about Putin walking into a big gaping hole Obama left, and grabbing his chance to "Make Russia Great Again." (If we start seeing ballcaps with that slogan in Cyrillic, we will knonw I am right.)

via Althouse, this NYT article has the premise:

The Federal Election Commission forbids direct coordination between campaigns and super PACs, lest candidates effectively rely almost entirely on the huge, unlimited donations of a small number of billionaires. But in 2016, the groups are aggressively exploiting gray areas and loopholes in the rules, few of which the commission – deadlocked with its three Republican and three Democratic members – has hastened to close.

It focuses on Carly, but mentions several other R candidates (at least it didn't use the phrase "skirting the rules" - that would have been sexist).

You know who it doesn't mention?

Hillary.

(so it probably could have used "skirting the rules" as everyone knows that you can't be sexist toward a Republican woman)

http://news.yahoo.com/al-gore-spreads-environmental-gospel-climate-talks-073001537.html

No bias here:

Miami (AFP) - Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore is busily training an army of organizers to go out and spread his environmental gospel ahead of key climate talks in Paris later this year.

The modern world is collapsing around us and we must change our ways, according to the former US vice president, who has led the training of more than 5,000 people in the last 18 months.

At each session, he delivers an updated version of his Academy Award-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," using the latest news footage and startling videos to show how the very fossil fuels that have powered so much innovation are leading to the demise of society.

Air so hot it melts airport runways, floodwaters that crumble roads and bridges, methane that blows terrifying holes in Siberia and air pollution so thick it has shortened life expectancy in China by several years featured prominently during his three-hour presentation in Miami this week.

There's more if you can stand it. Thankfully, the comments rip this agitprop to shreds in pointing our Wooden Al's own CO2 hypocrisy and mendacity.

Wasn't there something similar with one of our Generals?

I am probably thinking of Mad Dog Mattis when he met with the Sheikhs in Anbar Province.

Jane

Gee all this Russian bombing can't be good for global warming. Or is it?

 Jack is Back!

Yeah. It was this one.

“I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you f* with me, I’ll kill you all.”

A smart POTUS would send Mattis over to the Russian embassy in Baghdad and Damascus and repeat those words.

DebinNC

NYT headline - U.S. Warns Russia About Non-IS strikes in Syria and quotes Kerry:

"Moreover, we have also made clear that we would have grave concerns should Russia strike areas where ISIL and al-Qaida affiliated targets are not operating," he said. "Strikes of that kind would question Russia's real intentions fighting ISIL or protecting the Assad regime." Kerry also said the U.S.-led coalition would "dramatically accelerate" its efforts.

Not exactly a "High Noon" sort of warning as "we would have grave concerns" means we currently have only mild concerns which might possibly, conceivably, reluctantly be upgraded to "grave" later on. No idea what gobbleygook "dramatically accelerate its efforts" means, but it sounds ridiculously weak.

Russian response:

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov followed Kerry, saying Russia is ready to "forge standing channels of communication to ensure a maximally effective fight." He listed countries with a key role to play in resolving the chaos in Syria, including Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar , the U.S. and China.

Did BOzo release a list of his 60+ coalition members?

Jane and others worried about Putin's adventures in Syria, my take:

I am not worried. Not like there's anything that can be done about it anyhow. Besides, anyone killed over there (aside from Americans) by the Russians, is a net positive.

Fighting there, airstrikes, ground operations etc--it's a tough environment. We can sit on the bench a bit for awhile, put in the substitute quarterback. I am reminded of Mother Russia's adventures, the Great Game, in Afghanistan, oh how many years ago.

This current adventure in Syria might go much the same. Russia is on economic saline drip. Simultaneous operations in Ukraine and Syria will put a lot--A LOT--of pressure on his budget. Operations can kill his budget, eitehr he runs the force into the ground, or he inflates the ruble.

And, what will Vlad get for his troubles? A port on the Med? Well, okay then, but it is not like Tartus and Syria is a fun place to be.

He's supporting the s'h'i't'e's for goodness sake. The shites are bat-shite crazy.

What is the phrase, kill them all and let God sort it out? So, Vlad will be doing the killing for awhile. Good on him. Maybe we can send him some ammo, the supplies we were diverting out of Benghazi to the rebels.

Look, I am as angry as anybody at the utter incompetence of the foreign policy. Hell, the resident INTENTIONALLY LOST two campaigns, Iraq and Afg, not to mention vacillation leading to disaster in several smaller back page efforts.

But Putin--?? least of our issues.

Not only doesn't he have the stomach for it, he doesn't have the testicular fortitude.
