Stephanie

BTW there was unanimous glee over Boehner - from all the GOP chairmen and the volunteers and the voters. The DC crowd better get with the program quick..

GUS

Deb, Bichelle O'Drama's face says it all. Per usual.
I know, I know, I'm a RACIST or sumping.
I grew up SO SO SO SO PROUD of being born in his COUNTRY. Both of my parents are buried at ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY.

What happened. How did AMERICA allow grifters like the CLINTON CRIME FAMILY and OBAMA and his ugly angry wife, to change all of that??

narciso

Well it's like when the at at fell in the first round of empire, the next will be harder.

DebinNC

Honda "Power of Dreams" commercial. Very nicely done.

Frau Rundfunk und Fernseher

lol GUS - that's what you get when you have a Catholic German father and Irish mother. I wonder how many couches they wore out? At least the chirren were in the two bedrooms.

GUS

Stephanie, Boner et al, fought the TEA PARTY types, TOOTH/MARTINI and NAIL.
It made me vomit. As Frau mentioned, both Frau and I, have never considered nor called ourselves REPUBLICANS'. So long as the GOP does not FIGHT BACK....tooth and nail, I shall never support them. Boner, Cantor and McCakeHole have done everything they can/could, to discredit and beat down, the CONSERVATIVES and EWWWWWWWW ewwwww TEA PARTY types. FOR EFFING OBVIOUS REASONS.
JOHNNY KLEENEX is GONE. Long live JOHNNY KLEENEX!!!

She didn't know who Led Zeppelin

Reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from School Of Rock

Frau Rundfunk und Fernseher

Stephanie - there is a definite party going on here, too.

DebinNC

Michelle definitely looks put upon in that pic. She considers her time as First Lady to be a sacrificial act of public service. Her day of liberation can't arrive quickly enough for me.

I think Michelle and Buhrock are fighting.

GUS

Oh my GAWD Steph. My son has an Irish father and a German Mama. I'm 100% Irish, though my Mom was raised in Edinburgh. Gus Jr's Mama, is 100% German, but unlike me, she is not a FIRST GEN AMERICAN!!!!

Fortunately, we have a home with 3 people and 4 bedrooms!!! Hahahahahahahahaa.

Stephanie

How bout this pic?

I am so sorry, my 10:52 was directed at FRAU, not STEPH.

DebinNC

Wow, Buckeye, that was incredible. Extremely clever, too much to absorb in one viewing or, for me, a dozen.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--Kind of like "Eve of Destruction."--

He became a Christian in the 70s and came to our church several times over the years to give a concert with his musical partner some folk singer dude, Terry something.
Very nice guy. Think he moved to New Zealand, for part of the year anyway.

narciso

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

XI = Eleven.

Bravo Gus. That was funny.

GUS

Michelle Robinson Obama is an ASS.
Simple as that.
Michelle Robinson Obama, has no class.
Simple as that.

We've come to a point in America, when a large segment of our population, has no idea what class/deportment is.
What the F, does Michelle Obama have to be so ANGRY about??
She is a product of LIBTARD AMERICA. She has been SOLD/TOLD that all of the wonderment and fantastical goodness, that AMERICA has provided her, IS NOT ENOUGH.
IT CAN NEVER BE ENOUGH for a jerk like Michelle Robinson Obama.
AND. There is no discussion/debate.
WE ARE ALL RACIST.
THERE IS NO CURE for THE OBAMA DISEASE.

GUS

Thanks Ig, it's always good to hear from you.

Buckeye

Freshman year I took an Engineering Drawing class. I have always had a passion for detail drawings, and I loved that class.

When I saw the commercial, it took me back and brought a whole new creative twist.

Loved it.

Gus Badger

Buckeye. Where did you go to College??

With a name like "Buckeye"?)

I knew where you went.
Ha!!

Theeeee Ohio State University!

Gus Badger

Pope Frankly...Scarlet... I don't....

Buckeye

Glad you guys aren't on our schedule this year. As crappy as the offense is playing, Badgers might tear us up.

Might meet up anyway.

Buckeye

So Gus, I'm assuming you honed your drinking skills in Madison. Had some fun weekends there in my youth.

Gus Badger

Buckeye, as good as the BADGERS have been over the last 10 years, OHIO STATE is a dynasty. I'm not too proud or too stupid to acknowledge that. If we should meet, it would be in the BIG TEN CHAMP game....again.
We didn't do so well last time.

Frau Rundfunk und Fernseher

So many bedrooms. Lucky GUS and family!

Party hardy (hearty?), everyone. Let's see what awaits us in the daylight. I hope it's not "Yikes!"

G'nytal

Gus Badger

Buckeye, I cannot remember whether I honed my drinking skills in Madison. I just can't remember.
Ha!
Madison was HEAVEN in my College years. My "still missing" college girlfriend had an apartment...ONE BLOCK due west of CAMP RANDALL STADIUM.

Captain Hate on the iPad

Dammit Gus, you should be a Terp.

Gus Badger

CAPN' you know that I'm from Hagerstown!!!!

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Puppy's do the darnedest things;
1. This morning I set my morning cup of choco milk on my coaster and came back to find doofus lapping my choco in the cutest yet most disgusting manner.
2. While rough housing I gave him a little headbutt just as he was passing a chest of drawers and he jammed my neck with a delightful crack. Kinda stiff but not broken.
3. Taking a drive to look at the sunset he had his head out the window, jowls a flappin' in the breeze. I heard a whimper and looked over not realizing what the problem was at first. Finally dawned on me he was standing on the window switch and had rolled it up on his head. Once I rolled it down for him I laughed for no small time.
All in one day.

Buckeye

Well we have to get past Michigan State which is no gimme.

Should be a fun season.

Gus Badger

Buckeye, do you realize how GOOD, you've got it. I'm no fan of MSU, nor am I a fan of THEE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, but......the RIVALRIES are what it's all about.
Buckeye. Each and every year, your team is in THE mix. YOU GUYS ARE CHAMPS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!

GUS

I'm from Maryland, SCOTLAND, Maryland again, and MOST OF ALL.......WISCONSIN.

I love Wisconsin, and I'll most likely die here.

Threadkiller

Cruz is from Canada so he may be your logical choice, Gus.

:-)

GUS

TK. I love you brother. My logical choice is whomever can beat the MARXIST BASTARDS.
You and I can debate Cruz at another time.
I'm not supporting him.

GUS

By the way TK. Your post says that Cruz "is from Canada, so he might be MY logical choice".

Why would you say that TK. Cruz being from Canada or Timbuktu would have nothing to do with "my logical choice".
Why the SNARK TK??

Threadkiller

Sorry GUS. I guess I thought it was funny because of the shared border.

I apologize sincerely.

Captain Hate on the iPad

Speaking of puppies, young Theodore has been growing like a weed and may be too large to go to the tiny tots area of Canine Meadows dog park, where he likes to play with Fox Terriers and Jacks. He plays well with the big boys despite the other dog owners admonishing theirs to play nice with Teddy, to which I assure them that all is fine. He's got some Rhodesian Ridgeback friends along with German Shepherds, Rots, Pit Bulls, Border Collies and assorted mutts.

GUS

TK, Thank you for being a MAN.
I love you TK, and I love love your passion.
Friend, be careful not to lash out, at peeps that respect you.

GUS

Capn'. Sir, you must know that you have a special place in my heart and my respect.
You are a great dude, and you have been good to me.
I wish I had a wee dogggggie to chat about!!!
Maybe soon. I grew up VERY VERY ALLERGIC, and I am no longer such.
I want a dog!! I think I'd love a terrier, and probably a Jack Russell.

You know what TK. I saw that smiley, and it made me smile.
Tk. I REALLY DO LOVE YOU. Thanks for loving me back my brother. It means a lot to me.

Jacks are pretty hyper, Gus. Airedales are very mischievous but mine have no doubt about who the big dog of the household is. I've loved all my dogs and all of them have been praised by others but the compliments Teddy has gotten have been off the charts. Dogs are like children in that you want them to reflect well on you and, based on that, Teddy is a valued member of the family.

Captain Hate on the iPad

That's pretty funny, glasater.

GUS

Stephanie, I am so glad you are still around. You are wise and you are not easily BULLSHITTED.
My lovely Stephanie, you and I are not going to be bullshitted and lied to and fooled about WHAT IS GOING ON.
Johnny Boner is DONE, because JOHNNY BONER is DONE. What the FLOCK has this pathetic GOP WANNNNABEE POWER BROKER done FOR US/U.S.?
Seriously. Johnny Weeptard Boner, has done NOTHING to STOP THE MARXIST TAKE OVER OF OUR COUNTRY!!!

Long Winded "Brush with Fame" OT: (And I didn't even know it:)

2 days ago I deadheaded as a First Class passenger on Alaska Airlines from Anchorage to Seattle, then switched to a connecting flight to Oakland, arriving just before midnight.

My co-worker on both flights sat just across the First Class aisle from me, him in like seat 2C for the first leg and me in 2 B. Second leg he was 3 B and I was 4 C. (We generally choose aisle seats when flying as passengers as it makes it easy to go to the bathroom. )

Anyhow, before the first leg I had started in the first Class Lounge drinking a beer, then chased by red wine as I usually drink red wine when I deadhead as I can drink a ton of it and not get crazy. So by this second leg I'm a bit lit but still somewhat have my wits about me as we board. My co-worker, is a non drinker former Air Force Colonel, and a Computer Science Major from the Academy way back when, so he still is relatively sharp understanding Computer stuff and Computer personalities.

I had been reading the Sharpe's Rifle's series (Sharpe's Waterloo) and was about a 3rd the way thru.

So the scene is now set, they call to board us for the second flight, I board, find my seat, put my drag-bag overhead, pull out my book, and take seat 4 C. A few minutes later in comes this guy
who I rise for so he can slide by me into the window seat next to me, 4D.

Seems a decent sort, exchange pleasantries, then I'm back into my book. A few minutes later some Korean looking guy in a suit comes down the aisle to his Business Class seat in back somewhere, and as he passes he stops and asks "Are you the CEO of Microsoft?"

That question throws me off, but my seat mate says "No" and blows him off, and then the Korean guy starts addressing me with questions that make no sense to me and are only understandable now after having thought about it, as he must have thought I was either the bodyguard of the CEO of Microsoft, or some big shot Microsoft exec. Ha!

Whatever, I couldn't make sense out of it at all, and likewise blew him off, except I used one of the Business Card's that he dumped on the 2 of us as a bookmark for my book.

That's about it. For the rest of the flight we'd periodically chitchat about nothing. He drank Crown Royal on the rocks and I kept drinking red wine and reading Sharpe. His accent was Indian and he seemed Hindu. He had made some phone call shortly after boarding so I picked up he had an Indian accent, and somewhere along the line where I thought appropriate I did my stupid Gujarati line "Toomarruh nom Kee-ah-Hay?" (What is you name?) and I got a polite smiling response, and then I blabbered a bit about it sounded like an accent I had heard in Bangalore, and he mentioned he'd spent time growing up in Bangalore---just general stuff like that. I mentioned the great Hindu mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan which he nodded and chuckled about a bit so I suspect he could tell I was lit but was pleasant and inoffensive, and when I pointed out my co-worker across the aisle, and what we were doing, he said he was going to Berkeley to give some lecture, so naturally I jabber about Berkeley and Telegraph and Moe's books, and then I mentioned ZoBob at CalTech since I'm an idiot, and he said good pleasant stuff about that school and then I probably apologized for bothering him and went back to my book. In a while he started snoring, and except for a few more innocuous comments later, that was about it.

Later, after my co-pilot and I claim our bags, my co-pilot mentions to me that I was sitting next to the CEO of Microsoft, and I think he's joking, as I reply something like "Yeah, did you hear that nutty Korean guy with his questions?"

Anyhow, tonight he mentions it again at dinner, and when I still think he's joking he pulls up on his iPhone a Wiki page and pic of the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, my seat mate in 4D.

It's him! Ha! Wiki sez he's worth $84 Mil.

Anyhow, that was my brush with fame, but I was so lit on Merlot and so interested in reading my Sharpe's Waterloo book, that I didn't even realize that for 2 hours I was the personal bodyguard of the CEO of Microsoft:) He seemed like a completely normal, decent guy, who dealt beautifully with the benevolent drunk sitting next to him.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

daddy,
If you're ever next to him again could you punch him for me on account of this software and OS, which, if it were a car would be eligible for lemon law buyback?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Just watched an amazing POV, Art and Craft, that featured this tiny old schizophrenic dude named Mark Landis who has spent 30 or more years forging beautiful paintings and drawings and donating them to museums around the country, almost fifty different ones.
Some curator dude finally figured out several museums had the same paintings because he would make several versions of the same one.

What was striking was the indignation of these numbnut curators who did no due diligence and were not too pleasant toward the guy who made monkeys out of them and how sad and lonely and isolated the poor guy was. Amazing talent in many media and no malice in him whatsoever. He called his forgeries and donations "philanthropy". Heh.
Was never prosecuted because by not taking money he wasn't committing fraud and obviously he had a pretty good insanity defense in any event. Very hard, sad, lonely life.

Record snowfall hits Fairbanks

The Fairbanks area was hit with more than half of a foot of snow on Friday, prompting snow advisories and breaking records.

The National Weather Service reported that Fairbanks International Airport got 6.7 inches of snow, breaking the previous daily record -- 0.8 inches in 1996.

“It’s a little early for this,” National Weather Service meteorologist Don Aycock said.

Morning, all!

I loved the American Spectator link posted on the last page:

The first obligation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is to the country, its security, its prosperity, and its cultural and spiritual health. The U.S. House of Representatives exists to ensure these things for the country. The country doesn’t exist for the care and convenience of the House and those who wish to carve out a comfortable career in it.

It's so simple. And in the past, enough politicians at least pretended that they believed it and paid lip service to it. Today, they don't even bother - and then they wonder why there's so much anger, and people flocking to blowhard outsiders and other non-traditional candidates...

Miss Marple 2

Morning, all!

Found this series on Netflix yesterday and spent the evening watching the first 5 episodes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Fisher's_Murder_Mysteries

Highly recommend it. It has a glamorous star, 1920's fashion and cars, smatterings of history from WWI and the 1920's. So far there have been murders involving Lithuanian anarchists, Chinatown, Zionists from Poland, post-War French artists, etc.

It is well-acted, excellent plots, good writing.

I am burned out on mews so glad I found this.

daddy-back in 95 I was travelling first class to SF from atlanta and chatting with the seatmate and reading a book on The wars of the Roses and Plantagenets. He turned out to be ceo of apple.

When he confessed he pulled out a pub with him, gerstner, and bill gates on the cover. I think there is something about finding people who still genuinely like books and knowing things that can make normally aloof 'celebrities' chatty.

Buckeye

Had a similar experience in the 80s. Was at a conference in Beantown hosted by Digital Equipment. It was pretty intimate affair, not one of the big blowouts they usually had.

Speakers for the closing dinner were Elizabeth Dole and Robert Reich with one of the old CNN guys as moderator. Think it was the during the runup to 88 election. So they had the 2 of them "debate" and afterwards take questions from the audience. I took a shot at Reich which of course he managed to deflect.

Flying home the next day I was in First and a couple minutes after sitting down Liddy came on the plane and sat down beside me! She actually remembered me from the question I ask Riech. At any rate she was a delightful person to chat with and the leg to ATL went really quickly.

Morning! The late night stories are fun to read. I laughed at Ig's puppy story. The other morning, two pretty little does were feeding in the backyard and I thought, something is wrong. The dog wasn't barking. I looked in the sunroom and he was curled up in a sunny spot on the floor, sound asleep.
It is frosty here this morning, the leaves are slowly changing color,I guess we're about a week behind because of the dry and warm weather.

Marlene

maryd, are the colors changing in the mountains yet? Have you been to any candidate events? Who do think is doing well in NH on the Republican side?

Janet S.

I haven't seen Michelle with a happy face in a long time. The Obamas certainly do appear to be estranged from one another.

Jane

Does she have a "happy face". I just think she is a terminal bitch.

And what was with last night's hairdo?

maryd

Hi Marlene, we had the first real frost this morning. The leaves started to turn last week when we finally got some cooler weather. I don't know how the primary will turn out at this point. All of the noise from Trump seems to distort whatever reality there is out there. I missed a big house party for Carly last month. Most of the candidates have been to Littleton, but I've not seen anyone. We need a few more drop-outs IMO.

narciso

Well going down the rabbit hole, tk, by now we know the fec just harasses right leaning orgs and candidates for fun.

The State Dept. has a lot to answer for.

http://diplopundit.net/2015/09/23/statedept-officials-on-clinton-private-email-yo-had-been-caught-off-guard-ay-caramba/

"It took six months for three senior State Department officials to tell WaPo that they “had been caught off guard” by the secretary of state’s exclusive use of a private account? These officials “were concerned by the practice”, so much so that they issued a three month-“early call” in the summer of 2014, 1 year and 6 months after the end of the Clinton tenure. And we’re only hearing about this concern now, 2 years and 7 months after Secretary Clinton left office? Yeah."

this bit too -

"December 11, 2012: NARA Chief Records Officer Paul M. Wester Jr. Email to NARA’s Margaret Hawkins and Lisa Clavelli on how they “should delicately go about learning more” about the transition plans for Secretary Clinton’s departure from State.

Concerns that “there are or maybe plans afoot to taking her records from State to Little Rock.” Invokes the specter of the Henry Kissinger experience vis-a-vis Hillary Clinton (view email in pdf). So there were discussions within NARA about the Clinton records as early as December 2012. It appears that NARA’s main contact (pdf) at State is Margaret P. Grafeld, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Global Information Services (A/GIS).It should be interesting to see how or when the Clinton federal records were discussed between NARA and State."

***NARA = The National Archives and Records Administration is an independent agency of the United States government charged with preserving and documenting government and historical records
