I was looking at a Viking River cruise up the Danube next spring, MM. Not now. No way in hell. The country of former Nazis is importing current Nazis.

I'm hooked on the AHC channel and all their Nazi, WWII, and military stuff. Great set of series on that time frame.

rich@gmu

why did they need to travel a thousand or so miles to fight in Europe? Plenty of opportunity where they are from.

and great new that the Zero Administration is looking to import even more.

For a less effective member of Congress the last 23 years than Sanders... I can think of two: one who is in the Oval Office, and one who wants to be.

DrJ

If perchance, Bill Clinton ... happened to occasionally glance at, lets say, 'Miss America' pix, would that also show up on the server?

Very, very unlikely. Now the router or his personal computer is another matter.

that and the welfare (although I thought that had been changing in Switzerland and other parts of Europe). I find the whole thing revolting and the US wants to bring in tens of thousands.

FWIW,

Caught a little bit of Beck's apology broadcast yesterday. Obviously Stewy and Jeffy had talked to him.

What struck me was that he apologized for calling Palin a "clown", but I did not hear him criticize himself for being childish and that was the word I was waiting to hear from him, as it was the word that completely undercuts his criticism of Trump as I blogged about yesterday. "Grow up Donald Trump. Quit being Childish. Grow Up!"

He wrote "Childish" in the apology I read linked here yesterday, but he did not "say" childish when I heard him apologize to Palin, at least not when I could stand to listen to him.

He then begged for humility from God, apologized to clowns for criticizing them, and the last I could take was him saying that Donald Trump makes Barrack Obama look like St Francis of Assisi.

Oh well...

daddy

Thanks, DrJ.

Stephanie,we've been watching AHC also. All Hitler all the time. Those shows are a fascinating history lesson. Both my parents served in post war Germany (Army). My mother recalls the apartment they lived in after they were married. They lived in an apartment in the house of a German family and the neighborhood still had bombed out buildings.

Walker has a fantastic story to tell. It would resonate with the base. And it reflects what a GOP President in 2017 will need to do.

But apparently the highly-paid geniuses who are advising him don't get that, and they've basically destroyed his campaign before it ever got started.

Concur with that JamesD,

And my guess is that if Walker's campaign collapses, we will hear these same consultants whisper via anonymous sources how bad Walker was and that the fault lies entirely with Walker for not listening to them enough, all so that they can keep their viability for the next campaign.

Extraneus

Not sure which ISP he used, but that's who knows Old Bill's browsing habits, pics his IP address downloaded, etc.

Extraneus

I don't blame consultants. They're hired help.

If Walker allows his consultants to take him out, he probably wouldn't have been smart enough to choose the right cabinet secretaries and other advisers as president.

Extraneus

Or manage them effectively.

daddy

If the GOP really wanted to move public opinion on the Iran deal, they'd have cut ads showing 9/11 footage interspersed with Iranian leaders chanting "Death to America".

"You Sir, do you think that on the Anniversary of 9/11 the Congress should be cutting a deal with Iran, authorizing $150 Billion to the largest sponsor of Islamic Terrorism on earth?

I looked at that, Jane, but the NR cruise isn't sporting a two for one if you book before Sept 30. Plus the VRC is truly all inclusive including shore excursions. Oh well, they'll sail without us.

Friends are on a cruise from San Juan to somewhere southern Caribbean and the Boat had a fire - not a bad one but couldn't get clearance to depart til the coast guard was satisfied it was good and out. Stuck in St Thomas for a few days and Carnival refunded the cruise plus 60% off their next plus flew em all home. Yikes!

Thousands flock to anti-migrant demos in E.Europe

BRATISLAVA: Thousands of people joined anti-migrant protests in three eastern European capitals on Saturday after leaders from the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia opposed an EU scheme to fix refugee quotas.

In the Polish capital Warsaw, nearly 5,000 people, many chanting anti-Islamic slogans, marched through the city, an AFP correspondent said. “Islam will be the death of Europe”, one of the banners said.

Organisers claimed the demonstration drew 10,000 people but police refused to confirm the figure.

“We’re here so that the government hears our voice and abandons any plans to welcome Muslims,” shouted one of the organisers after starting the march with prayers which identified the participants as Roman Catholics.

Members of far-right fringe parties and football supporters chanted “Poles against migrants” and “Migrants today, terrorists tomorrow”.

The news man is named Khan Zahid.

Jack is Back!

We are off to the Southampton Historical Museum's End of Summer Cocktail party at the Roger's House. Fun day today, staring with the annual Antique Fire Truck muster sponsored by our local fire department (all volunteer). Big parade of vintage fire trucks including my Dad's 1941 Mack pumper for the Agawam Engine Company.

Lots of great Americans there and gave us a lot of pride the day after 911+ 14 years. Golden Domers don't look like as good as Brian Kelly thinks they are but then screw him leaving Cincy when we were a growing top 20 team.

Steph-with one finishing college and another high school, we had been talking about europe next summer. With this invasion it is hard to imagine that conditions where had talked about going will not have deteriorated markedly 9 months from now.

Places people used to go to. I have the collection of postcards my globe -traveling GF and the evil step-GM used to send as they travelled places when I was little. Being stuck on the road in Uganda while a herd of elephants passed, Afghanistan, Iran.

How many places will cease to be places any rational tourist would visit within the next few years?

ah ... thanks Rick. Surprised by Carson's strength in the registered voters breakdown. The poll should be the panic button (an overcharged button!) for the Clinton campaign though-among registered voters she already losing to Jeb and Carson and tied with TheDonald. Rich,

That would make sense, but my guess from recent trends and from Obama's answers yesterday is that the missions of our new Military have changed: The news ones are as follows:

Navy: Refugee boating safety
Coast Guard: Buttressing of Global Warming arguments
Army: Meals on Wheels and Ebola prevention
Air Force: Gay/Lesbian/Transgender role playing, and Social Experiments in reintroducing Pagan religious sites to Air Force Cadets
Marines: Training to become POW's in Mexican Prisons
NASA: Muslim outreach (unchanged)

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker on the writing of Deacon Blues that's worth reading. Larry Carlton makes an appearance. Good stuff.

Just caught up to Lyle's comment on Steely Dan. Interesting to go to the WSJ link and see that Carlton was a studio musician for them, and contributed to that jazzy intro to Deacon Blues that you'll all instantly recognize.

Larry Carlton: When I met with Donald Fagan, he gave me demos of him singing and playing “Deacon Blues.” I transcribed the chords and built an arrangement for the rhythm section that was tight but left plenty of space for other layers—like horns and background vocals that I knew they would add later.

"The song’s famous opening is my guitar and Victor Feldman’s Fender Rhodes electric piano playing the exact same chords and voicings, plus drummer Bernard Purdie’s cymbal figures. To keep the song’s rhythm-section arrangement from sounding stiff, I added guitar ad-libs here and there to create contrast after Donald’s vocal was in place. They were there to frame his voice."

Reminds me of recently learning that old jazz Guitarist, Barney Kessel was hired by Brian Wilson to do that odd sounding but very familiar intro bit on the Beach Boys "Wouldn't it be Nice." The link here is to the making of the song.

I find it interesting to see how Brian is such a stickler for demanding that everyone keeps working until they achieve whatever sound he had envisioned in his head, and if you skip to about the 06:20 mark, you see how they do all the vocals 'a cappella', then lay them in overtop of the music Brian had just created. I think that's fascinating, and I'd love to ask our P'UK if he had any inside info on Kessel or Carlton or any of this.

I don't know if it was Deacon Blues, but Insty posted a youtube maybe a year ago about how Fegan came up with the chords, substituting maj7 for 7ths in an otherwise normal blues progression, adding a standard jazz turnaround. Fascinating.
