EXCLUSIVE: Even as the U.S. military denies reports that American troops were told to ignore Afghan child abusers, an 11-year Green Beret who was ordered discharged after he confronted an alleged rapist was informed Tuesday that the Army has denied his appeal.
Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland earlier this year was ordered discharged by Nov. 1. He has been fighting to stay in, but in an initial decision, the U.S. Army Human Resources Command told Martland that his appeal “does not meet the criteria” for an appeal.
“Consequently, your request for an appeal and continued service is disapproved,” the office wrote in a memo to Martland.
...
As first reported by Fox News, while deployed to Kunduz Province, Afghanistan, Martland and his team leader confronted a local police commander in 2011 accused of raping an Afghan boy and beating his mother. When the man laughed off the incident, they shoved him to the ground.
Martland and his team leader were later removed from the base, and eventually sent home from Afghanistan. The U.S. Army has not confirmed the specifics of Martland's separation from service citing privacy reasons, but a “memorandum of reprimand” from October 2011 obtained by Fox News makes clear that Martland was criticized by the brass for his intervention after the alleged rape. Asked for comment Tuesday on the latest decision memo, an Army spokesman reiterated, "the U.S. Army is unable to confirm the specifics of his separation due to the Privacy Act."
The bus tour will bring speakers, including celebrities, to the schools to discuss issues of gender equality. Among those confirmed for stops on the UK leg of the tour are English actors Gugu MBatha-Raw and Douglas Booth.

Speaking of the Sweater Vest, that latter day Father Flanagan's (There's no such thing as a bad Buckeye, especially the starters) image has been recently receiving quite a cleansing.
Remnants of paper lanterns left over from a campus event were mistaken for nooses and set off a hate crime investigation at the University of Delaware on Wednesday.
Interim university President Nancy Targett initially called the appearance of the pieces of string with metal hangers at the end a "deplorable act" and "hateful display" when they were found by a student hanging in trees in front of a campus building Tuesday night. But in a statement posted online around daybreak Wednesday, Targett says the investigation found that the items weren't instruments of a hate crime, but were left over from an event on The Green, a campus open space.
Still, Targett says the incident revealed the campus' sensitivity to the potential issue and shows a need for "continuing dialogue." She invited the community to gather Wednesday afternoon.
"We are both saddened and disturbed that this deplorable act has taken place on our campus,” Targett's initial statement read, in part. “This hateful display stands in stark contrast to Monday night’s peaceful protest and discussion. We condemn this despicable action and ask everyone in our community to stand together against intolerance and hate.”
Marlene, Fiat "bought" Chrysler in a scam similar to the GM stock going to the UAW and government -- run by the same guy (later pegged for fraud elsewhere). This was Obama "saving" the automotive industry that got him re-elected.
So Private Berghdal deserts to the Taliban, resulting in the death of several fellow soldiers to try and find him. The gov't response is to trade give hardened terrorists for him and to give him several hundred thousand dollars in back pay.
Sgt. Maryland tries to stop someone from raping a little boy and beating the boy's mother, and the gov't response is a dishonorable discharge.
That about sums up the Obama Administration, doesn't it?
CBS keeps showing a long shot with all the state flags surrounding the dais. The quadrant of the Mississippi state flag that includes the Confederate battle flag is very visible. lol

Ext's quote: Still, Targett says the incident revealed the campus' sensitivity to the potential issue and shows a need for "continuing dialogue." She invited the community to gather Wednesday afternoon.
Dialogue is among the most abused words in the English language. A true dialogue in cases like this would include the falsely accused be given the opportunity to tell the perpetually aggrieved to "grow up". But the perpetually aggrieved will never let that happen, and those in power will side with them (out of either agreement or fear) and the perpetually aggrieved will shout down anything that puts any responsibility on themselves to act like adults.
That's no dialogue, it's a monologue. Or if I am to make up a word on the fly, it's a harraguealogue.
reading the article, it doesn't say but it sounds like the SFC was barred from reenlistment and chaptered most likely under "other than honorable" circumstances. crappy story to read.

I mostly agree with Epstein's economics but he doesn't understand much else.
His commenters let him know this.

OK, we are going to have a gospel choir now.
They sound pretty good.

At least they're not singing 'We Shall Overcome'. Well, not yet.

Ext's quote:
Still, Targett says the incident revealed the campus' sensitivity to the potential issue and shows a need for "continuing dialogue." She invited the community to gather Wednesday afternoon.

JamesD-
reading the article, it doesn't say but it sounds like the SFC was barred from reenlistment and chaptered most likely under "other than honorable" circumstances. crappy story to read.
missing out on all the speechmaking. anything interesting so far.

With all the fine antiques in the White House, they plonk out a couple of cheap Chippendale reproductions?
And Charlie Rose inadvertently mentions that Papa's speech was much shorter than his introduction. Heh.
