I actually got something accomplished today. I cleaned cupboards and a closet and brought lots of stuff to the Salvation Army. The weather here is beautiful! We're told a cost of living increase is unlikely but every thing seems to be up but gas. Items that were $1.85 are now $2.15 and that kind of increase seems to be on every thing.
Beasts,no we haven't. Hubby makes a pretty good pulled pork.in fact he's at the cabin this week-end with "the guys"(they've been kayaking all day) and he's making pulled pork tonight. I expect leftovers!
Catching up, just a comment for those who asked on the last thread about upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10. I've done it on two computers. One has had no problem, but another has had repeated loss of internet connections. Apparently this is not an unusual problem, as Google turns up lots of similar complaints. Unlike Win 7, the troubleshooter actually does frequently solve the problem. (One of the funniest things about the Win 7 troubleshooter is that it when it invariably fails to solve a problem, it asks if you want to try something else, and if you do, the main option it offers is "Ask a friend.") Anyway, probably worth trying, as you can go back to Win 7 if you have a problem with Win 10. But aside from the troubleshooter I haven't seen any huge improvement either.
You should try it sometime, Marlene - it's very good. Some friends of mine are the founders and it originated here. Not sure how they ended up in Maine!
The Tennessee QB has a curricla that no other QB in the history of QB's has ever had and that incliudes the ones at CalTech where the cheer was "impede them, impede them, make them reliquish the ball".
maryd,I think I've mentioned that my father spent his young life in Littleton/Lyman. When my youngest sister was in NH this summer, she and my mother took a trip to the north country and visited the cemetery where my father's mother and little brother are buried. My father was three years old when his mother died. I remember so many trips to the north country to visit my maternal great grandparents. My father adored them.
His father (my grandfather) remarried the woman that I always knew as my grandmother,a wonderful, loving woman. She used to feed us candy. :) Family lore says my father was a red-headed hellion, but his new mother (she was 16!) knew how to handle him!
Jane, see you in Florida! We will be in Venice Jan.-March. Hubby's cousin lives in Port Charlotte and they already have kayaking trips planned. Safe travels!
JiB, we are frequent travelers to Hanover, as I did a little time in what my doctor calls "the big house" three years ago (That's Dartmouth Hitchcock medical center) I actually did not know where Canaan is, but I see it's also less than than an hour and a half away. Littleton is very close to 93 and 91, and northeast of Hanover. If your schedule permits a trip up here, we would love to see you for lunch or dinner or whatever, but I would have no problem with a meet-up down there. I will deliver a big batch of chocolate chip cookies for Frederik's camping experience. (Be sure to tell him I use the recipe from Tate's Bake shop.)
maryd used a secret we try to keep secret but they don't - Tate's Bakery on North Sea Road as you leave Southampton for the highway. I think they have gone nationally and have a large bakery to make them.
They are a great example of American Exceptioinalism. Started out as a one person bakery making breads, cakes, and a chocolate chip cookie that was unbelieable. Went through a legal battle a few years back. But everyone with a grocery started to carry them, even the farm stands. All of a sudden they are NY Times material and Wall St. takes notice.
It is the best chocolate chip cookie ever and you can get it gluten free.
BTW, we have two (used to be 4) apple trees in our backyard in Southampton. Today Frederick had 2 buddies over and they picked the tree for about 30 apples. We peeled them on a traditional peeler. Cored and sliced them and made a pie.
What is more American than that? Oh I know, we put a scoop of ice cream on it.
JiB -- totally agree about Tate's. All of their goods are wonderful but the chocolate chip cookies are off the charts. The best part is that if you use her recipe, you produce the real deal.
