The NY Times describes the travails of Jeb on the road in the Summer of Trump:
A Once-Sunny Jeb Bush, Bristling in the Long Shadow of Donald Trump
However, we are offered surprising evidence that Jeb Bush is clueless to the ways of the world:
But the torment goes deeper than that. Emphasizing bluster over ideas, Mr. Trump has turned the campaign into a tabloid-style clash of personalities, heavy on provocation and insults. What little policy that has been discussed mostly revolves around Mr. Trump’s appeals to anxious white conservatives: stoking fears about immigrants, gang members and foreign countries that, in his telling, are eclipsing the United States.
...
Still, seemingly powerless to pull Mr. Trump down, Mr. Bush and his advisers are expressing anger over what they see as the news media’s enabling of Mr. Trump by not scrutinizing his far-fetched plans, such as making Mexico pay for a wall along the United States’ southern border.
“Look, this guy’s the front-runner,” Mr. Bush said last week at a town-hall-style meeting in Norfolk, Va. “He should be treated like a front-runner, not like some kind of alternative universe to the political system.”
At a private fund-raiser the night before in Richmond, Va., Mr. Bush was even more direct when asked by a contributor what he would do about Mr. Trump. Mr. Bush said with a touch of wonder that Mr. Trump’s rise reminded him of reality TV, adding that he was the only candidate taking him on and that he hoped the news media would begin aggressively vetting Mr. Trump, according to an attendee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to talk candidly about a private event.
Mr. Bush’s aides have recently asked reporters why they will not say outright that Mr. Trump’s ideas on, to name two issues, mass deportations and trade tariffs, are fantasy.
For heaven's sake. Most of the legacy media is delighted to promote a colorful, say-anything gadfly who makes Republicans look ridiculous. Knocking Trump down is the opposite of their objective.
Secondly, the Republican voters responding to Trump are not exactly taking their political cues from that legacy media - a blistering expose of Trump's foolishness in the NY Times, however unlikely, would probably boost Trump among his supporters.
How Team Jeb could have reached this point with any hope at all that the media would present Republicans fairly is a mystery.
But to be fair, the Times does include this "to be fair" caveat - if Trump is sucking the oxygen from Jeb, surely the many lesser-knows are already unconscious from asphyxiation:
Of course, Mr. Trump’s strength could ultimately be a political gift to Mr. Bush. If the real estate mogul remains atop the polls heading into next year and denies attention to other hard-line candidates, Republicans could flock to support Mr. Bush, the safe, well-credentialed and well-funded son and brother of presidents, to stop Mr. Trump.
Are the Republicans angry enough to nominate The Donald? Are they stupid enough to nominate the one guy who can't make the "No more dynasties" case against Hillary? Time will tell!
I can't find the opinion. Is it clear Judge Berman wiped out the NFL, as opposed to staying the suspension and sending the case back to the NFL for further arbitration?

CH, I am so unsympathetic to Jebster. He had the dough, right from the get go, to run an aggressive campaign, as opposed to a coronation campaign. Hell, The Hill is running less of a coronation campaign than Jebster (of course, given that The Hill could be facing indictment, running a 100% coronation campaign is difficult for her).

Judge Berman did not send the case back to the NFL. Award was vacated. NFL must now decide whether to appeal. NFL will need to take into account that if it appeals and the Second Circuit adopts Judge Berman's approach, there will be a decision from a federal circuit court excoriating the NFL's procedures.
The decision is not vindication for Brady. It is a slapdown of the NFL management in general, and Goodell in particular.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | September 03, 2015 at 11:30 AM
Now, from a PR standpoint, Team Brady and Team Kraft can spin this as a vindication. And I don't blame them.

Maybe jeb expects the media to carry his water because he works regularly with groups like aspen or the clayton christensen institute or people like VanderArk to push the Left's agenda.
He is either dangerously naive about the agenda, a useful idiot for the Left, or actually promotes the Un agenda because after all poppy was the ambassador there.
I am sick of him saying something is not 'conservative' when he regularly enables the Left's agenda via the schools.

Bush's (no doubt highly-paid, well-credentialed) aides also need to stop giving interviews to the press about internal campaign matters. And they need to stop whining.
If Bush wants to campaign against the MSM as part of his strategy, that's a reasonable choice. But there are ways to do that, and off-the-record complaining about inside baseball that will inevitably be used to mock his own campaign, is not one of them.

GUS, my position remains the same as it has always been. Brady never told Jas or Mac to deflate after the NFL official inspected the balls. Brady made clear to his boys that he wanted low PSI balls. It was reasonably expected that Brady's boys would do the necessary ballwashing, and it's not surprising that might result in post measurement deflation in the men's room. That's my position, and I'm sticking to it.

Well we do know that after an 2014 October game against the Jets, Brady complained that the balls were way over-inflated and asked his equipment manager, Dave Schoenfeld for the rule. The EM gave him a highlighted rule written down on a piece of paper which Brady asked to be given to the officials prior to the following game. It just doesn't make sense to me that Brady would under-inflate his balls after showing the officials the rule.

The accuser needs proof. The defendant needs nada.
If it were an actual court of law, yes. But it isn't. It's a private organization deciding whether its rules have been violated. According to NFL regs, to which the Patriots must adhere, the league needs only "preponderance of the evidence."
As far as I understand it, Berman ruled on the fairness of the punishment and the failure of the NFL to follow certain players' union's procedures in disciplinary matters. It amounts to "the NFL should have warned Brady in advance that he could be suspended for being aware of X activity" and "the NFL should have given Brady's counsel equal access to investigative files."
In these matters I believe it is a fair ruling on whether or not union rules were followed. But it isn't a ruling on the merits. Brady's punishment disappears, but he is not (yet) vindicated in the ball deflation department.

maryrose,
You'll have to ask the NFL that question. Their letter to the Patriots states that the two employees cannot be reinstated without Troy Vincent's permission. Since the NFL is foolishly going to prolong this nonsense by appealing Berman's ruling, it's unlikely they'll do anything else intelligent.

Your statement. His punishment disappears was Brady's goal all along
How would you all feel if Hillary's punishment just disappeared

Surely you see how unfair this is to those two employees
All because the Emperor I this case Brady must not be seen without his clothes or his conveniently discarded cell phone

Yet the balls were found to be underinflated.
NO. They were found to have reduced internal air pressure -- that is a very different thing.
There is no evidence of any kind, any where, that any air was let out of a football used in that game.
(Well, except maybe when the Colts illegally measured a ball on the sidelines)

maryrose,
It would have zero bearing on my opinion of her guilt. The LA Keystone Kops screwed up the investigation six ways to Sunday and possibly even planted evidence, but OJ either did it or he didn't, and nothing that happened afterward can change that truth.
I've never been much interested in whether Brady was directly involved. He seems to have successfully established plausible deniability. Everyone destroys a phone now and again.
