Ace recaps the Ahmed "cool clock" story and the hoax angle, but the best line came from Judge Napolitano on Fox News:
“It now appears as though this was a purposeful hoax," Napolitano told Fox News' Megyn Kelly Monday.
...
"If this was part of a purposeful stunt and if the parents were involved in this and if everybody from Mark Zuckerberg to President Obama fell for this, this is not good," Napolitano said.
Well, it's not good for me personally because I am sure to hurt myself laughing. Although I am also at risk of dying of shock if the Protective Media ever reported this. We walk a fine line.
WHO'S LAUGHING (OR HAVING A HEART ATTACK) NOW? The Dallas Morning News at least listens to some of the noise, although they were too early for the revelation that the older sister had apparently been suspended from middle school in the same district three years ago for making a bomb threat. So let me set up my bonus conspiracy theory: the clock (seemingly a re-assembled alarm clock) went off in Ahmed's English class attracting the teacher's attention and starting this imbroglio.
Well. Class schedules are predictable and alarm clocks normally go off when they are supposed to. So, is there any chance this English teacher was involved in the suspension of the aggrieved big sister? Privacy laws prevent the school or the police from releasing the relevant reports, but that shouldn't stop Stephen Colbert from asking about it. No, of course he won't, but Daniel Payne of The Federalist has suggested some questions for any intrepid reporters out there.
Glad you posted on this. The ed publications are doing everything to make sure students see this as a poor Ahmed, never question anyone Muslim story.
They use the word preposterous a lot. I am thinking this generation may hear the word preposterous and associate it with Ahmed and his clock.

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Who started the anti-Benedict XVI campaign at your school, maryrose? I find that hateful. Benedict is exactly the kind of humble, pure follower of Christ I think of as pope material. Miss Marple answered his call. Not too many have appeared with his credentials imho. He even dared mention the history of Islam. Were your colleagues supporters of liberation theology? The protestant religious left supported it.
My favorite popes: John XXIII (I know, I know, but the self-described "Strong Fork" was an earthy man of the people); John Paul II and Papa Razi.

OK, since it's so hot, I'll stick my toe in the water.
I've long considered homosexuality to be exuberant and luxurious. It is exuberant, because were not human sexuality so exuberant as to take in many manifestations, we'd have died out long ago. It is luxurious because it's only widely accepted in wealthy societies. When the survival of the tribe depended upon reproduction, it's suppressed.
It is a human variant, perhaps akin to the connection between madness and genius.
And yes, most of us know more homosexuals now than we did in the past, if only because fewer are closeted. Many homosexuals are very nice people, too, so there is that. I'll be sorry when the luxury ends, as it may well.
My idiosyncratic view. I don't put it out very often, because few understand, and, of course, because such an idiosyncrasy is being squelched deliberately in an unnecessary overreaction.
Can't wait until RICO is deployed against homophobes.

Posted by: GUS | September 24, 2015 at 06:17 PM
No one has said this that I can recall. The whole immigration issues is a tacit agreement that they have given up helping those countries that most need help. Instead of trying to fix the situation there, the Pope and the Leftist have decided to bring those that can out of where ever they come from. It is defeatist in the extreme and shows the weakness of moral relativism.
The same with Climate Change and the massive redistribution of wealth that would follow if their plans are adopted. It is giving a few fish to placate the hunger rather than teaching them to fish.

Ye of no name, I like your phrasing.
To add my view: Humans are animal and cannot get away from their natural instincts.
However, humans are also self-referential and can project consequences into the future.
While sex is animal, to steal the innocence of a child is to misuse people.
Those who conflate the two want to win an argument short of coming to understanding.
