Miss Marple 2

Jack,

Do not miss the interview I posted this morning on BBC with Cantor.

Here's the link again:

Beasts of England

That is always the plan, henry. ;)

Miss Marple 2

So do I, Gentlejim, but I worry about women in the northeast and upper Midwest.

Beasts of England

Werrell sounds like the right man, at the right time, JiB. Sign him up!

Now I have no idea what games they are all playing.

It is possible they in a circular firing squad. They all have enough on each other to bring any one of them down. So Hillary stays in, unless she gets forced out, then Biden jumps in and the 3 of them go unscathed.

Sometimes I think older Lib whites may be the only ones not comfortable with guns.

Yep. Older white libs that live in very safe neighborhoods.

Speaking of which, while also noting that tales of walking with dogs in the semi-wilderness are daddy's métier, a quick one from our fabulous week in Sun Valley:

The missus and I hike the dogs just about every day we are in SV on a very nice, very popular trail just north of Ketchum in Adam's gulch. Hikers, runners, mountain bikers, horseback riders are share the trails and it has a quite large parking area at the trailhead.

So we pull in next to an older dude who has just loaded up his three dogs but they ain't interested in staying in the back of his rig and are quite agitated. We unload and the dude starts yelling at someone, but we don't know who until we turn around and there's a hunter on horseback dragging a rope with a dead deer back to his trailer. The older dude gets his rig closed up and starts toward the hunter, calling him an asshole and an idiot. (Not an unfair assessment as the hunter could have easily gone 10 minutes up the highway and avoided this trail and all the people on it.) Hunter says, "you really calling me an asshole?" At this point older dude backs off and storms back to near us fulminating, "this country is gun crazy!!" I simply point out that it is perfectly legal to hunt in the area even if I don't agree with the choice. Older dude does not want to hear this. Anyway we head up the trail and I'm shaking my head at two things: 1) it's never a good idea to call someone packing a rifle an asshole, and 2) the hunter was an asshole picking that gulch at that time to bag his deer.

GMax

Despicable She is gonna run way behind the normal take of the Democrat Party with males. She will need a huge shift in women just to keep up.

And she will be reminded constantly about her gun confiscation comments.

Blacks will not turn out in a large proportion per capita than whites like they did for zero.

Students are quite apathetic about her as well, so runs behind there as well.

And Zero got 51% and very narrow wins in most swing states, plus Iowa and Nevada and maybe even Pennsylvania have swung more rightward in 2014...

Worry that we put up an unelectable candidate, not that Clinton is a leviathian...

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Left apoplectic Bibi may have overstated Mufti's influence over Hitler with his constant remonstrations der Fuehrer should exterminate the Jews.

So far utterly silent on the fact that said Mufti [what kind of jackass title is that?] did repeatedly implore his Nazi friends to murder all the Jews and silent on the fact said Muppet is revered as the father of the Palestinian people and their own present day genocidal aspirations.

GMax

Too bad about Slow Joe though. I was looking forward to some more comments about how you had to have an Indian accent to work at 7 11...

DebinNC

I didn't realize hunting was allowed near hiking trails. Given the fact that BOzo won twice, proving a sizable number of idiots are around, that's scary.

GMax

No Israli state or supposed desecration of the Al Aqsa mosque/rock or any "occupation" in 1941. You might reasonably conclude it has something to do with the character of the so called Palestinians, and since most of the Islamic world openly supports them, and the character of their co religionists...

Beasts of England

I should have said 'work'. :)

jimmyk

Heh, Iggy @3:57, my far left mother had just sent me the link to a Forward article whining about Bibi's statement, and quoting people who accused him of "absolving Hitler." I usually ignore my mother's lefty e-mail links, but in this case I responded that (a) suggesting Bibi was "absolving Hitler" is silly; (b) the history does not obviously contradict him, as the first mass killings were not till after the USSR invasion, and the deportations to camps not until 1942.

My mother's response was to agree with me about the history but assert that Bib's statement was "at this moment is inflammatory and unnecessary." Well, I say too bad if the poor Arabs' feelings are hurt. It seems to me stabbing and shooting Jews in Israel is a tad more inflammatory.

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

The failure to scramble FEST on one fateful night in Benghazi would be on their hands--that would be where the buck would stop in the chain of command for that decision.
Posted by: Algonquin | October 21, 2015 at 12:45 PM

Algonquin - Back on Sept. 10, 2012, Preznit oBOzo made some reassuring remarks (surprisingly, for him) about the security preparations being undertaken in advance of 9/11/2012.

I clearly recall that he mentioned that specialized security forces and emergency responders were being moved into position *that day*, in preparation for the possibility of some kind of attack or demonstration at an American facility on 9/11.

The demonstration and low-intensity attacks on the U.S. embassy in Cairo began the next morning, and lasted throughout the day, with no armed response by the U.S.
Their only response was to send out a rather misguided Twitter message.

It was apparent he had no intention of responding in Cairo, and I suspect he had already decided not to respond to most any other demonstration.

Within days, however, we learned that the FEST team had *never* been deployed down to a staging base in the Med, but had stayed at their base in Germany the whole week.

oBOzo has *never* been held to account for failing to move security forces into position as he claimed, or failing to move the FEST team into position, or failing to call in the USMC FAST team or any of our other assets to respond to Benghazi.

OL - They all fit, but 'Bar' is the word that may be superfluous.

Why . . . ?

Work(ing) (on) Tiffany (with) Beer.

Sounds like Beasts has a well-thought out plan.

GMax

I would say the plan is Breakfast at Tiffany's but then what would a married guy like me know about it!

Beasts of England

The last thing in the world I am is a pick-up artist, but pleading that boating season is in it's waning days is an easy sell. Plus the offer of some special Beasts Cocktails™ is usually a great enticement. Hey, let the tools do the work. ;)

They all fit, you are correct Michael.

Jim Eagle

Hell, I thought Alabama was dry. They have bars outside the sand ones on the Tennessee river?

That said, tongue in cheek, one of the best bars I have ever visited was in Decatur on a stupid BD run from Memphis back in the day. It was so stupid to think we could bonanza the mid south for manhours, I spent most of my time finding golf clubs that would let me play 18. But in Decatur, there are some fantastic Victorian homes lining the mapled streets with front porches full of people drinking who knows what. And down one of those streets was a bar, one without a TV! But a master bartender, who knew every drink in the book and how to start and continue a conversation on every thing imanginable.

To this day I wonder if it was daddy before he went to work for the outfit just a little bit north of Decatur.

Old Lurker

OTOH if we allow ourselves to modify the actual words, then we will get into trouble when in his 4:32 Beasts offers up "Beasts" and "Cocktails" and we start working those two, or parts of them, into the mix.

Lots of information in this post, but here is something I hadn't learned before:

" We also uncovered that Patrick Kennedy kept Ambassador Stevens’s personal computer and journal in his office for over three weeks before finally turning them over to the FBI. An obvious lack of transparency—business as usual for Hillary and Kennedy’s State Department."

DrJ

For Beasts:

Ferrari NV sparkled on its first day of trading Wednesday as the luxury sports car maker celebrated the first step toward becoming an independent company.

The stock traded as high as $60.97, or 17% above the $52-a-share price of the initial public offering that raised $893 million for parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV. Shares closed at $55, up 5.8%.

About 9% of Ferrari is publicly traded, creating a scarcity premium that is helping sustain the share price, according to investors and analysts. They nevertheless cheered the success of Sergio Marchionne, chief executive of Fiat Chrysler and chairman of Ferrari, in convincing investors that when it comes to valuations Ferrari has more in common with luxury goods makers like Hermès International SCA. than high-end car makers like BMW AG.

Their symbol (NYSE) is RACE.

Beasts of England

Thanks, DrJ! They are certainly positioned well for the next few years. Doubt that I'd buy any shares. I do live their ticker, though!

Jim Eagle

We still have a few Ferrais here in Southmapton this time of year. Not like summer. Stil convinced most are rented in NYC to drve out an impress the babes. However, we are the wrong village for that unless you are looking for 70+ dowagers or eastern european 20 some old beauties working as hostesses.

GMax

Hostesses. Never heard it called that before...

Tonto

JOM bakers! Help is needed! I'm planning to make an almond-orange cake for dinner guests and am totally stymied by the Euro-baking conversions. Went to a conversion site and got goof-ball (I don't have a scale) conversions. To wit:

50 grams flour -- .556 C (another recipe says 6 leveled Ts)
225 gr. caster sugar -- 1.174 C (is 1 C. OK???)
250 grams ground almonds -- 1.3 C (another recipe says 1/12 C)

Do these seem equivalent? I was a liberal arts major, ergo my abundant confusion.

The 80 mls of orange juice I can eyeball, ditto the 60 grams of brown sugar.

Thanks for any help.

Signed,
Over My Head, In the Oven

Jim Eagle

...hostess's .... is that better for the grammar police? How about calling them young Moldavans on the make?

DrJ

Tonto,

I don't do English units for those sizes, so no help from me!

However, a good kitchen balance is well worth having if you do this sort of thing every now and again. It is MrsJ's favorite of all the gifts I have given her.

I can give you a recommendation, if you like.

Beasts of England

Euro-baking conversions, Moldavan hostesses on the make. I smell a trend.

Jim Eagle

tonto,

Flour = 1.7oz.

sugar = 8.8 oz

Almonds = 1 cup

All from your Belgian friend.

Beasts of England

Usually an ounce equates to an eighth of a cup, Tonto.

So Hostess Cupcakes then?

Actually I think Hostess Ho Hos is a better moniker...

Thanks, beaucoup, to all. The conversion websites are intimidating, because they demand precision -- grams of butter weigh out differently from grams of almonds, apparently. (Didn't Galileo refute this???)

Jack -- does Mrs. J think 50 grams of flour (1.7 oz, but I don't have a scale!) = 6 level TBs?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002KT52C?keywords=escali%20136dk&qid=1445469585&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

I don't recall why I chose this one, but it has been quite some time since I bought it (ten years?). No one would confuse it with the Mettlers I have in the lab, but for everyday kitchen use it has been great. It also costs a heck of a lot less!

Tonto

@Jane -- and I dismissed Chaffee as a fool. (Hangs head.)

Threadkiller

I searched: "almond orange cake recipe cups tablespoons"

Jane

Yeah Tonto, me too. Clearly we will have to reconsider.

DrJ

Tonto,

Your confusion about the conversion comes from one measuring in weight (the metric) and the other measuring in volume. They are related by the density, but that varies from substance to substance. It also depends on how you chop/mince/grate something -- the apparent density can change. Weight doesn't.

narciso

TK -- thx for the MS heads up. I feel she has paid her debt to society and often go to her website!

Extraneus

So why did Biden announce on the day before the Benghazi hearing? Were they worried that some Dems on the committee might have held back on defending Her Thighness?

Jim Eagle

tonto,

6 level tbs is good. But I like TK's MS rescipe. No coinveersions. :Plus she is a fellow Hamptonite. BTW, jail time is productive. MS is worth more now than before she went to the pen. Go figure.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Finally a story that makes sense;
Alec Baldwin's daughter gets a tattoo honoring her delightful father: the word "squirrel"... only in french so I suppose it was, "le squirrel".
"Musteline" would have been even more apropos; h/t MarkO.

Jim Eagle

Tonto,

Also, go to Williams-Sonoma or Fishes and Loaves in Bridgehampton and buy metric cups and measures for the next time. Also a Lb/Kg scale. Then you can do all the Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver and Marco Pierre White recipes without pause.

Buckeye

DrJ

Mass doesn't change, weight does and is a function of gravity.

At least I think thats what we learned in Physics class?

Tonto

Jack -- Loaves and Fishes is inspired. Did you see that Anna Pump was run down by (reading between the lines in The Star) maybe-not-legal whose license had been confiscated? And she was in the crosswalk!

Buckeye

Of course Tonto will have a hard time finding different gravity.

Miss Marple 2

Jack Welch ‏@jack_welch 51s52 seconds ago

Wouldn't you love to know back room discussions Clintons/Obamas/Jarrett to orchestrate Biden withdrawal

Extraneus

Like Buckeye says...

Unlike pounds and ounces, grams are units of mass, not weight. Mass doesn't change with gravity, but weight does. (Same mass on the Moon is a different weight from that on Earth. Same weight on Earth is same mass.)

Gram weight is the same for the same mass of butter and almonds, as long as they're both weighed on the same planet.

narciso

all the hubbub about effendi kousa, makes me think why is there all this kerfluffle avoiding the reality of Benghazi, which won't be broached tomorrow,

Rick Ballard

Red Witch will surely choose perjury over acknowledging violations of the Espionage Act. Arkanzeimers won't work for her this time.

DrJ

You guys miss the point. Yes, I assumed that Tonto would not leave earth to do her recipe, and used weight and mass interchangeably. So shoot me.

The key thing is that weight or mass is not volume. You need the density for that. So the interconversion of a mass of chopped almonds or grated cheese can't be converted directly to a volume without knowing how the chopping and packing into the measuring cup are done.

Miss Marple 2

My solution is to avoid all recipes in grams.

Nigella Lawson can either put out an American version of her recipes or I will stick with the people who do.

Because I am not buying a scale and/or doing math in order to bake.
