I don't care. I love hot dogs.

matt

It's all about control of the white male population. Microaggression, campus rape, and now this.

This shall not stand.

Jack is Back! (In Southampton)

So that is why its named Nathans.

Thomas Collins

OK, I hope I'm not insulting anyone here. Anyone who worries about what hot dogs contain has more serious issues than getting some of Nathan's DNA (hat tip to JiB). It's perfectly reasonable to eschew hot dogs. But to eat hot dogs and worry about what's in them is, shall we say, not totally rational.

henry

The human DNA was in the vegetarian hot dogs. Those oh so holy greenies are cannibals.

If they refuse benefits of patriarchy... give up anything that is a product of fire, that manliest of the elements. Have all the water and dirt you want.

The guys will be at the BBQ.

Thomas Collins

Eating hot dogs and worrying about what's in them is akin to taking Destiny to the champagne room and worrying about whether she is being nice to you because she really likes you or because your tips are contributing towards the month's rent money.

There really are some things one must not think about when one partakes.

Jack is Back! (In Southampton)

henry,

Exactly. And i keep asking my resident molecular-biologist cum bio-chemist, how do I know its really organic when they advertize it as such?

His answer: It's uglier:)

Buckeye

So if an Oscar Meyer worker spits in the hot dog mix you would get some human DNA??

Not sure which I prefer, spit or the end of his pinkie finger.

GMax

As a child I viscerally hated hot dogs. Would not eat them. Still dont like them today. Never knew that it was soylent green however. I still pass...

henry

We don't want to know what's in this turdwich either. But it is a Boehner Special extra floaty turd with 2 years of debt raising, Obama happy spending levels, and of course ExIm re-authorization.

Is is bad top wish Boehner would cross a street against a light without seeing the oncoming bus?

Buckeye

I'm sure if you take Destiny to the Champagne room, some DNA swapping will occur.

Thomas Collins

Not too much if the bouncer is watching carefully, Buckeye. :-))

Now, if one really wants to get into this area of inquiry, let's take a look at the amount of rodent hairs, insect parts and so on are permitted in everyday, wholesome foods.

http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/SanitationTransportation/ucm056174.htm

Thomas Collins

For example, that tasty pizza sauce your local pizzeria uses. Here are the levels of various items that must be in the sauce before the FDA will get concerned.

Tomato Paste, Pizza and other Sauces Drosophila fly (AOAC 955.46) Average of 30 or more fly eggs per 100 grams OR 15 or more fly eggs and 1 or more maggots per 100 grams OR 2 or more maggots per 100 grams in a minimum of 12 subsamples

DEFECT SOURCE: Pre-harvest and/or post harvest and/or processing insect infestation
Significance: Aesthetic

Buckeye

"Significance: Aesthetic"

Hmmm....depends on your point of view!

James D

TC, let's not and say we did.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Thomas Collins

What snacks and beverages did you celebrate with yesterday, James D? Or are you waiting until the NY Football Giants once again barely slide into the playoffs and then knock off the 18-0 Patriots in the Super Bowl?

Stephanie

Lace wing flies? Boomerang skin?

Hot dogs are polyjuice potion

No wonder we are all turning into pajama boy.

He is the last ingredient!

James D

Homemade chili.

I don't know what to think about the Giants. They really just don't have that much talent, outside of a couple of positons. The 2007 team, and even the 2011 team, were a LOT better than this squad.

I can see them winning the division, just because it looks like 9-7 or even 8-8 will probably do it. They'd have to win 4-5 of their last 9 games. Tampa, the Redskins and the Eagles in NY in what's likely Chip Kelly's last game as coach there are all winnable. They'd just need to steal 1-2 out of the other six games.

And then they'd get Atlanta or Seattle in the Wild Card round, and the season would end.

Dave (in MA)

From my cold, dead hands,

lyle

Judging by the dearth of hot dogs on your roaster, you're already cold and dead, Dave. ;)

Thomas Collins

Perhaps they don't match the 10-6 2007 team or the 9-7 2011 team, James D. But my recollection is that both of those teams were in disarray at some point in the season. Perhaps Manning and Coughlin simply decided to concentrate the disarray in the first two games this year. As for the Packers, remember that the 2007 Giants surprised the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

With respect to Chip Kelly, he had control of personnel in the offseason. I agree that he's in trouble. Going 8-8 or 9-7 and winning the NFC East with a first round playoff exit won't cut it.

Dave (in MA)

lyle,

Or I could be merely full.

James D

True, TC. But the offensive and defensive lines on both championship teams were 1,000X better than this year's squad. The D-line is especially awful - there's no pass rush at all.

It's just hard to see them being competitive agaisnt anybody with a real QB. They play the Pats in three weeks. if they give Brady 6,7,8 seconds to sit back in the pocket and eat lunch before he gets bored and decides to throw the ball, they'll score a hudnred points on the Giants.

Captain Hate on the iPad

The 2007 team's last loss was to Joe Gibbs' Redskins after the death of Sean Taylor. Coughlin was the epitome of class in congratulating Gibbs in a hugely emotional game which was important to both teams

GMax

Put this way, the Cowboys offense without the services of their first string quarterback or their number one wide receiver still managed to out produce Eli and Odell the minor et al.

Special teams are usually not the cornerstone of a champion team, especially when it comes to putting points on the board.

GMax

Ex

Its Draghi money they will be using, so its not like it really cost them even a drachma...

narciso

The poles have been a canary on this regard, re yesterday's election.

Thomas Collins

Well, my hope for Super Bowl L/50 is Redskins/Patriots. No matter which team wins, Goodell would be uncomfortable. I'm sure there would be activists clamoring for Goodell, at the awards ceremony if the 'Skins win, to make a public statement denouncing the Redskins for keeping their nickname. And if the Pats were to win, well, that will be one of the few awards ceremonies worth watching.

I realize that the 'Skins probably don't have what it takes to get to L/50, and the Pats are no sure bet. But I think a Redskins-Pats Super Bowl would provide much off field entertainment.

OTOH maybe someone just smeared some hotdogs OJ had prepared around Nicole Simpson's body.

Thomas Collins

As far as the Cowboys go, there is still time for the Cowboys to turn it around if they can hang in there before Romo comes back. A four way 8-8 tie in the NFC East would be great for the tiebreaker formula geeks.

henry

TC, that SB would be as boring as a Mets Yankees WS.

narciso

Well anything that would goodell sad.

Buckeye

Just started downloading the latest and greatest iOS on my iPad.

Why do I have this sinking feeling that I am going to regret it??

James D

Wow, narciso.

Once again after reading one of her pieces, all I can do is shake my head and wonder how on Earth she's actually paid to write the garbage she produces.

And anyone who's friends with Yglesias and Klein and can still write this sentence with a straight face is just a bad joke on every level:

journalists do care about getting the facts right

Although just being friends with them makes her a bad joke already, I guess.

narciso

The folks that gave is Windows vista, what could go wrong?

James D

Buckeye, it may not be quite as bad as you fear. I upgraded my iPod with ios9 and it went about as smoothly as an Apple OS upgrade ever does.

(I haven't had the nerve to upgrade my iPad yet, though!)

Jack is Back! (In Southampton)

But I think a Redskins-Pats Super Bowl would provide much off field entertainment.

TC,

As Kirk Cousins would say, "YOU GOT THAT RIGHT?"

henry

I upgraded my phone yesterday. It crashes slightly less often. The download took forever though.

Porchlight

What? I thought Apple products were the finest in the world.

Buckeye

Well at least it came back alive.

James D, this was 9.1...we shall see.

You wouldn't think the hot dog industry would have come under attack like this having been at the forefront of inclusive marketing to children who might be confused about their sexual orientation.

Dave (in MA)

I was the first person I knew who had a cell phone, but I have not yet gotten on the smart phone bandwagon. I'm waiting to see if it's just a fad.

No Monmouth says Carson up big in Iowa. So out of the last 5 polls there, 4 say Carson up big, and one says its a tie with Carson and Trump. I would say at some point, it should become apparent that Trump is running behind there. First crack in the Trump teflon coating or just Iowans being Iowans. I report, you decide.

narc,

7th Day Adventist is a dog whistle to the evangelicals in Iowa. The Adventists are like the Mormons to that subset. I don't buy it and expect that religion is only important if you don't believe not how or where you believe.

Dr. Carson should just point out the numbers of hospitals his faith own, manage and provide care to millions of people everyday. Most people don't even know that their local hospital is an Advnetist one. Not as many Presbyterian outside NYC that I know of. No need to bring that up, though.

What a Schmuk. Sorry, Putsz.

London cemetery charges fee to see late communist’s memorial

HIGHGATE CEMETERY, LONDON—On a summer visit to the grave of Karl Marx, Ben Gliniecki found that he would have to pay £4, or about $6, to pay respects to the man who sounded the death knell for private property.

Mr. Gliniecki, a Marxist, said no.

“Personally, I think it is disgusting,” the 24-year-old political activist said. “There are no depths of irony, or bad taste, to which capitalists won’t sink if they think they can make money out of it.”

A 24 year old Marxist, you say? Get OUTTA here! Heh.

Jack is Back! (In Southampton)

lyle,

That WSJ is totally accurate. I know. I had to pay them to remove the weeds and rubbish around my great-great-grandfather's gravesite and monument there. He is on the Eastside and away from Marx and the guy Putin killed.

Pappadeux's is fine. Should I go up 400 and turn right or PIB and turn left?

Re: phones and such, instead of my 70-something parents getting my castoffs, I get theirs. My dad gave me his old Samsung a few years ago but I threw it in a drawer and never used it. Still going strong with my 2006 LG flip phone. It looks brand new. It fell in a pool a couple of years ago and was temporarily replaced by my mom's identical LG which she had saved when she upgraded, but then I left that one on top of the car, so now I'm back to my own.

My husband JUST upgraded his 2006 LG flip to a Galaxy 5 (or something) last month. It's purty. But I'm not giving in.

Porchlight

Heh, lyle. Well, he deserved it.

Jack is Back! (In Southampton)

Porch,

I knew Jean Pateman. She is the one my cousin and I had to negotiate with to have the walk way to his memorial cleared and the area around the plinth. She was a real hard ass when it came to money and cost. Good for her because it is a charity now. I had to join the Friends as well. Still a member.

Janet

Trump saying he didn't know about Carson's denomination is a big NOTHING.
The MFM amplifying the sentence is just to stir up trouble.

Janet

The MFM will make the Republican candidates bicker about Christian denominations while the Dems are letting in barbarians & selling baby eyes.

glasater

I was raised an Adventist. Went to a four year boarding high school and then to their college here where I live. Anyone who's seen my FB page knows a bit of this since its in my profile.

When I was a kid it was pretty strict schooling with high academic standards. No TV or radio at academy or college at all. Now I believe its not near as restrictive as it was years ago.

At the time we kids really kicked against the pricks so to speak but looking back at that time I'm coming to more and more appreciate this disciplined upbringing.

Not an adherent this days but it is true that bring a child up.. It is something that stays with one and I know it has with my contemporaries from school. And I keep in touch with many of them.

Janet and Ignatz when they write of their faith speak words that most closely resemble my thinking on religion. And neither one are SDAs.

WaPo May 10, 2013 - IRS admits targeting conservatives for tax scrutiny in 2012 election

"The Internal Revenue Service on Friday apologized for targeting groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names, confirming long-standing accusations by some conservatives that their applications for tax-exempt status were being improperly delayed and scrutinized.

Lois G. Lerner, the IRS official who oversees tax-exempt groups, said the “absolutely inappropriate” actions by “front-line people” were not driven by partisan motives."...

Why do we always dance to their tune? It is mystifying.

Beasts of England

Is this the weiner thread?

I have always enjoyed a good hot dog, preferably kosher or Nathan's. Among the other things the U.N. considers carcinogenic are sunny windows, air, grilled food, coffee, wine and spirits, and aloe vera.

This fits in, apparently, with the green movement's campaign for pure food in Europe and economic nationalism against processed American foods. Watch out for that GMO!

My first Nathan's was at Coney Island when Mom took us to the 1964 World's Fair. What a trip it was! Going to the Automat and St. Patrick's and seeing the big city for the first time.

I first heard "It's a Small World" there and I still can't get that frickin song out of my head.

Stephanie

RSE, Thursday works for me. Pappadeaux is at the NW corner of the intersection of I-85 and JCB. Best to either go I-85 and take a left at the JCB exit and take the first right after you go over the bridge or take PIB and go right on JCB and turn left at the last light before the bridge.

12:30 work for you?

Jack is Back! (In Southampton)

matt,

I think the origin of Nathan's was on the CI boardwalk, right? Still my favorite dog that and Sabrett's. There is guy named Paulie who opened up a small Sabrett joint in the Beverly Beach RV Camptown that does big business at lunch:)

"Here’s the part that really makes me mad: For 12 months, I have been making student loan payments of just over $500 a month. That means that over the course of a year, I put about a $6,000 dent into my student loan debt, or so I thought. On Oct. 17, 2015, a year to the day after I began paying off my loans, my total student loan debt was $82,264.27"

$82,264.27. That’s how much it cost me to get a B.S. in social studies education from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

It was worth every penny.

...

As for me, I’m hoping our political leaders will figure something out, that they’ll come up with some kind of combo-platter solution that offers forms of student loan forgiveness mixed with caps on the exorbitant interest rates our lenders currently are allowed to charge. Until then, I’ll just continue being one of the millions of screwed-over young adults in this country, lucky and privileged enough to receive a college education, but not blessed enough to be born in an era where this kind of exploitation has been outlawed.
