OK, eww...
Cancer and human DNA, too? It’s a rough day for hot dog lovers
If the prospect of cancer isn’t enough to keep you away from hot dogs, maybe the human DNA found amid all that encased-meat goodness will do the trick. As Upton Sinclair once wrote, “[t]here was never the least attention paid to what was cut up for sausage.”
OK, so a recent study conducted by Clear Food found that only 2% of the 345 analyzed hot dogs and sausages actually contained that grim finding. Comforting? Beyond that little stat, though, there are other reasons to be alarmed. In fact, almost 15% of all the hot dogs in the study had problems.
“We encountered a surprising number of substitutions or unexpected ingredients,” the report claimed. “We found evidence of meats not found on labels, an absence of ingredients advertised on labels, and meat in some vegetarian products.”
Of the “meatless” hot dogs tested, 10% included pork or chicken. Yikes.
Well, come on - 98% of hotdogs did not have human DNA. That glass isn't half full, it's damn near overflowing!
On the other hand, the song says "Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks". Nothing about hot dogs.
I don't care. I love hot dogs.

OK, I hope I'm not insulting anyone here. Anyone who worries about what hot dogs contain has more serious issues than getting some of Nathan's DNA (hat tip to JiB). It's perfectly reasonable to eschew hot dogs. But to eat hot dogs and worry about what's in them is, shall we say, not totally rational.

The human DNA was in the vegetarian hot dogs. Those oh so holy greenies are cannibals.
If they refuse benefits of patriarchy... give up anything that is a product of fire, that manliest of the elements. Have all the water and dirt you want.

Eating hot dogs and worrying about what's in them is akin to taking Destiny to the champagne room and worrying about whether she is being nice to you because she really likes you or because your tips are contributing towards the month's rent money.
There really are some things one must not think about when one partakes.

I don't know what to think about the Giants. They really just don't have that much talent, outside of a couple of positons. The 2007 team, and even the 2011 team, were a LOT better than this squad.
I can see them winning the division, just because it looks like 9-7 or even 8-8 will probably do it. They'd have to win 4-5 of their last 9 games. Tampa, the Redskins and the Eagles in NY in what's likely Chip Kelly's last game as coach there are all winnable. They'd just need to steal 1-2 out of the other six games.
And then they'd get Atlanta or Seattle in the Wild Card round, and the season would end.

Perhaps they don't match the 10-6 2007 team or the 9-7 2011 team, James D. But my recollection is that both of those teams were in disarray at some point in the season. Perhaps Manning and Coughlin simply decided to concentrate the disarray in the first two games this year. As for the Packers, remember that the 2007 Giants surprised the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.
With respect to Chip Kelly, he had control of personnel in the offseason. I agree that he's in trouble. Going 8-8 or 9-7 and winning the NFC East with a first round playoff exit won't cut it.

Or I could be merely full.
Posted by: Dave (in MA) | October 26, 2015 at 02:31 PM
True, TC. But the offensive and defensive lines on both championship teams were 1,000X better than this year's squad. The D-line is especially awful - there's no pass rush at all.
It's just hard to see them being competitive agaisnt anybody with a real QB. They play the Pats in three weeks. if they give Brady 6,7,8 seconds to sit back in the pocket and eat lunch before he gets bored and decides to throw the ball, they'll score a hudnred points on the Giants.
Posted by: James D | October 26, 2015 at 02:37 PM

Well, my hope for Super Bowl L/50 is Redskins/Patriots. No matter which team wins, Goodell would be uncomfortable. I'm sure there would be activists clamoring for Goodell, at the awards ceremony if the 'Skins win, to make a public statement denouncing the Redskins for keeping their nickname. And if the Pats were to win, well, that will be one of the few awards ceremonies worth watching.
I realize that the 'Skins probably don't have what it takes to get to L/50, and the Pats are no sure bet. But I think a Redskins-Pats Super Bowl would provide much off field entertainment.

7th Day Adventist is a dog whistle to the evangelicals in Iowa. The Adventists are like the Mormons to that subset. I don't buy it and expect that religion is only important if you don't believe not how or where you believe.
Dr. Carson should just point out the numbers of hospitals his faith own, manage and provide care to millions of people everyday. Most people don't even know that their local hospital is an Advnetist one. Not as many Presbyterian outside NYC that I know of. No need to bring that up, though.

I was raised an Adventist. Went to a four year boarding high school and then to their college here where I live. Anyone who's seen my FB page knows a bit of this since its in my profile.
When I was a kid it was pretty strict schooling with high academic standards. No TV or radio at academy or college at all. Now I believe its not near as restrictive as it was years ago.
At the time we kids really kicked against the pricks so to speak but looking back at that time I'm coming to more and more appreciate this disciplined upbringing.
Not an adherent this days but it is true that bring a child up.. It is something that stays with one and I know it has with my contemporaries from school. And I keep in touch with many of them.
Janet and Ignatz when they write of their faith speak words that most closely resemble my thinking on religion. And neither one are SDAs.

I have always enjoyed a good hot dog, preferably kosher or Nathan's. Among the other things the U.N. considers carcinogenic are sunny windows, air, grilled food, coffee, wine and spirits, and aloe vera.
This fits in, apparently, with the green movement's campaign for pure food in Europe and economic nationalism against processed American foods. Watch out for that GMO!
My first Nathan's was at Coney Island when Mom took us to the 1964 World's Fair. What a trip it was! Going to the Automat and St. Patrick's and seeing the big city for the first time.
I first heard "It's a Small World" there and I still can't get that frickin song out of my head.
