OK, eww...
Cancer and human DNA, too? It’s a rough day for hot dog lovers
If the prospect of cancer isn’t enough to keep you away from hot dogs, maybe the human DNA found amid all that encased-meat goodness will do the trick. As Upton Sinclair once wrote, “[t]here was never the least attention paid to what was cut up for sausage.”
OK, so a recent study conducted by Clear Food found that only 2% of the 345 analyzed hot dogs and sausages actually contained that grim finding. Comforting? Beyond that little stat, though, there are other reasons to be alarmed. In fact, almost 15% of all the hot dogs in the study had problems.
“We encountered a surprising number of substitutions or unexpected ingredients,” the report claimed. “We found evidence of meats not found on labels, an absence of ingredients advertised on labels, and meat in some vegetarian products.”
Of the “meatless” hot dogs tested, 10% included pork or chicken. Yikes.
Well, come on - 98% of hotdogs did not have human DNA. That glass isn't half full, it's damn near overflowing!
On the other hand, the song says "Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks". Nothing about hot dogs.
Thanks, clarice, I was wondering if Porch and I were outlying points.

See my comments above. I will vote for Cruz, because I do believe he knows what has to happen to straighten out the system. I don't know whether that's really his goal, though.
From a policy standpoint, I don't give two hoots about gun rights (except that they are in the Constitution -- so you need an Amendment if you want to do anything to them), and I am more sympathetic on immigration than most. But Obama, in the last few years, has damaged the constitutional system, and the Dems (and Trump) want to do it even more damage, because that way they get what they want without dealing with pesky, puny Republicans. Something pretty drastic has to be done to heal that damage.

Since a Birther and a Birther sympathizer are dominating the polls maybe gauging reality is the problem.

Maybe, but I think it's a much bigger problem that the GOP leadership appears to lack the imagination to construct any strategies or plans to try and change the current reality by influencing the mood or the opinions of the electorate.

And two years before we were told 'Oh, boy, if we can just take the Senate we'll be able to stop him!'
Only Charlie Brown is more gullible.
At the risk of beating a dead horse, though apparently I have either miscommunicated, or perhaps I am "insane," my point has been the following: The only leverage Rs in Congress have over Preznit Hissyfit is to fail to pass spending bills, or continuing resolutions, that have what he wants (or that have other things in them that he doesn't want). Then the ball is in 404's court either to sign or not the bills that are actually sent to him, and if he doesn't, a shutdown ensues. (I realize that some bills may require 60 in the Senate, but that could be altered, and may not apply to spending bills in any case.)
In the recent past, Rs have caved in this game of chicken, but it seems to me it is worth trying to make the case directly to the voters that stopping Barry is what they were elected to do, and if Barry insists on getting whatever he wants, then he is responsible for any shutdown. Rick seems to be arguing that the electorate is too stupid, Cecil seems to be arguing that this is not worth considering because somehow it's impossible. As usual, I think we won't know until it's actually tried, which it hasn't been, and in the most recent case it didn't seem to hurt R election prospects despite the poor handling of it in the MSM.

The Blimp was lost of its anchor in Pennsylvania. Lots of air traffic there and all with transponders for identificaiton. But the blimp? Surprise me if it had transponders or maybe it does for this exact contingency. It may be remote controlled like the HALE-D blimp that made a controlled descent back in 2011 and ironically in SW Pennsylvania.
Posted by: Jack is Back! | October 28, 2015 at 03:05 PM
Totally agree, jimmyk. At some point - which is now - you have to take a stand, or expect core voter apathy.
I fear that with a 60-vote Senate, they'd say 'Well, the SC will overturn the legislation.' Not that they'll ever get to 60, especially considering the demographic headwind they face in '16.
Posted by: Beasts of England | October 28, 2015 at 03:08 PM
Beasts, if they got to 60, the goal posts would move to 67 for veto override needs.
Posted by: henry | October 28, 2015 at 03:12 PM
"Rick seems to be arguing that the electorate is too stupid"
Not the entire electorate, the hinge 10% of the electorate which shows up or is whipped to the polls in Presidential election years. Within that hinge 10% there are certainly a number who are smart enough parasites to protect their free lunch but the remainder are basically feelers and "too stupid" may be incorrect because of the implication of a basic intelligence which is never demonstrated.
I would never say that a union member voting to protect a perceived advantage is "too stupid". The Lackwitz Sisters voting themselves "free medical care" are a different matter.

Grandmotherly but in control and advancing women's rights against those warring men. The Hill versus Trump (assuming no indictment): 54-44 popular vote victory for The Hill, and at least 3/4 of the Electoral College.

So maybe I dont understand cuz I keep seeing folks saying Ryan only got 200 votes and needs 218. Blah blah blah. Lets assume that there are no vacancies and House rules dont say majority of members voting instead of majority of the entire House. No republican except that @sshole Dent from Pa is going to vote for Pelosi. And the Democrats got at best 188 votes. Ryan either picks up the Republicans who did not vote for him in the caucus, they dont show up for the floor vote, or he wins 200 to 188. I dont see why anyone thinks its anything other than Ryan as the next Speaker of the House. Clue me in on the where my cognition is failing.

"Don't know the percentages of how many 18 yo's vote "
GLasater,
18-24 yo
2004 41.9%
2008 44.3%
2012 38%
They were whipped hard from '06 through '08 but have slipped back. The 65+ group is actually growing the fastest and they turn out at 78-79%. There will be around 6 million more voters at 65+ in 2016 while the 18-24 cohort will actually shrink slightly.
Posted by: Rick Ballard | October 28, 2015 at 04:56 PM
Rick,
Given those numbers on the 65+ group I think a good issue would be the removal of food and fuel from the government market basket, allowing them to say no inflation hence no COLA for Social Security.
Posted by: Miss Marple 2 | October 28, 2015 at 05:01 PM

There will be no COLA increase to SS benefits in 2016.
GMax,
Her percentage is dependent upon the level of fear among the parasites and degree of actual adherence to Vulvarian lack of principles. I think we will see very low turnout in '16 and I'm not displeased with the prospect.
Posted by: Rick Ballard | October 28, 2015 at 05:17 PM
As much as it pains me, probably the only person remaining standing who has a concept of these issues is Cruz.
I agree with you on most of the rest of this. But any GOP president will welcome a return to budget and appropriations bills. And any Dem will veto them to avoid the catastrophic shift in spending priorities. That's why the red witch winning would be calamitous.
There are a lot of other thorny issues that require leadership, and I think Cruz might well be the guy to do it . . . if he can get elected. But this one just needs a Republican.
And I respect Cecil's. He just seems not to respect anyone who disagrees.
Oh, come now. I didn't treat you badly; I treated your argument badly. Just as you treated mine badly (poor little guy, gets called a fallacy before the page even changes). Pretending you're right when you're wrong isn't respectful, it isn't even kind. And hey, it might be me who's wrong (not likely this time, though;)
