Yesterday, from Kevin Drum:
Liberals Should Knock Off the Mockery Over Calls to Limit Syrian Refugees
Today, from the Snarkist-in-Chief, as reported in The Hill:
Obama: GOP refugee opponents 'scared of widows and orphans'
No report as to his view on "scared" Democrats such as Chuck Schumer or New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan.
Obama apparently nodded to the possibility that security fears have a modest basis in reality:
Obama defended the screening for Syrian refugees as the "most rigorous process conceivable," hours after White House officials held a conference call with governors to reassure them about the security procedures for refugees.
That word may not mean what he thinks it mean. Let me note - the "most rigorous process conceivable" may not be satisfactory when people are coming from a war-torn country with no infrastructure and no credible police or government records about their past associations. But why ask me when I happen to have Marshall McLuhan FBI Director James Comey right here?
During a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing on Thursday, FBI Director James Comey sounded a cautious note that is likely to be picked up by critics of the White House’s plan to welcome more refugees into the U.S.
“My concern there is there are certain gaps ... in the data available to us,” Comey said.
“There is risk associated of bringing anybody in from the outside, but specifically from a conflict zone like that,” he added.
“There is no such thing as a no-risk enterprise and there are deficits that we face.”
Obama was clearly determined to elevate the tone of the debate by acknowledging his opponents legitimate concerns while explaining that these are risks worth taking because of America's self-conception and leadership role in the world. Kidding!
"We are not well served when, in response to a terrorist attack, we descend into fear and panic," he said. "We don't make good decisions if its based on hysteria or an exaggeration of risks."
Absolutely not! We need to make decision based on knee-jerk political correctness, with a clear eye on the late night comics and the heirs to Jon Stewart's "Daily Show.
I FEEL OBLIGED TO ADD: The Democratic New Hampshire governor and Senate hopeful Maggie Hassan is not taking Syrian refugees. The Democratic Presidential candidates will be touring the state prior to the primary talking up their visions and no doubt hoping the issue of Syrian refugees is never raised. But if it is, they will be in lockstep with Jon Stewart Obama, which seems awkward. How do they avoid creating RNC campaign ads, with Hillary running against Hassan?
Hassan may feel like the Democratic base in New Hampshire will stick with her regardless and is taking this position on the basis of its general election appeal. But what if she has correctly judged the mood even of her own base?
Gosh, there will be a growing list of topics for the media to ignore as Hillarity! rattles to its scripted conclusion.
ONE FOOT ON THE GRAVE AND THE OTHER N A BANANA PEEL: James Comey is also on the wrong side of the question of a Ferguson effect - you know, that kooky theory that screaming at police they are murderers and thugs inhibits them from doing their job. And now refugees?
Libs loved Comey when he stood up to the White House over the Bush surveillance program and facilitated Fitzgerald's pursuit of Dick Cheney. But that was a long time ago. Then again, he was appointed and confirmed to a ten year term in 2013, so what happens next in this now-unhappy marriage? What, you think the FBI will find a problem with Hillary's emails? This is better than '24'!
WITH THE WISDOM OF HINDSIGHT AND HISTORY: Knowing what we now know about the Department of Justice pushback against the Cheney-led anti-terror initiatives, primarily enhanced interrogation and surveillance, I am personally convinced that Comey appointed Fitzgerald to Get Cheney, not investigate the Plame leak. Or get Karl Rove.
Obama was practically an orphan after he mom and dad dumped him - and I am afraid of Obama.

The casual, matter-of-fact, unthinking lying is the heart of the problem. Leftists practice their own form of taqqiya.
Just as taqqiya rules out the concept of "good muslim," whatever we call the left's version does the same for every leftist piece of filth wasting my oxygen.

sbw,
My personal opinion is that all non-profits should have to release donor lists, just like political parties have to do. If someone can make the case for religious institutions being exmpt through the 1st amendment, I would accept that.
But Sierra Club, CAIR, ACLU, etc. all should have to disclose who donates.

What corporation isn't "susceptible to criminal enterprise"?
For that matter what individual isn't? After all it isn't the corporation itself doing the criminal enterprising.
We could eliminate the large majority of crime if sunshine were shining into every part of everyone's private life and guilt by association and prior restraint were as passe as innocent until proven guilty and privacy were made by the opening of the window shades.
We already have laws against criminal enterprises and all the rest of the dirty things people do under cover of darkness. But that darkness also keeps our busy body neighbors and the state out of our private lives and private matters.
Calling it sunshine doesn't make every day a sunny day. Taken to its logical end, as the state always does, it sounds a lot more like darkness at noon.

I remember the days when Obama professed to understand the arguments of his opponents and made a periodic effort to engage them. I even remember the days when I actually thought that was his natural tendency. (I am trying to forget them, but Google empowered commenting colleagues probably won't let me.)
We have seen the rage of Obama in the wake of Paris. Well, we saw the rage of W after 9-11. Problem is, Obama's rage is against his domestic opponents, not the people killing people.
It has taken this long (because McCain would have been a powerfully lousy President at a time ill suited for him), but I do finally regret my Obama vote in 2008. The President's third-rate Daily Show routine is a scary thing to contemplate. He has no concept of what he faces. He has no grace to admit that, occasionally, he is wrong. He thinks the law, when it is not his plaything, is something to be defied. And his Mama did not teach him proper manners.

I have to disagree with Wretchard on refugees.
Who cares if among them are some smart, industrious people? There aren't smart, industrious people among the millions here who can't find work? There aren't smart, industrious people from cultures that will reinforce our freedoms rather than weaken them?
And if we want intelligence from the refugees who a week ago were "migrants"; seems like they'd be a lot more useful in situ than over here.
I also have to disagree with Barry; of course we should have a religious test for immigrants.
The simple fact is the vast majority of muslims endorse sharia, which is utterly incompatible with our constitution. Any believing muslim is lying when he takes the oath of citizenship. Why would we want to let in people who lie during the very act of becoming citizens?
I understand why Barry would because he did the same thing when taking the oath of office, but why would the rest of us?
What we have here is exceptional but it is not indestructible. Our ancestors knew this and safeguarded it because, other than the radicals, our basic freedoms were cherished by everyone.
Well, now the radicals control one party and many of our institutions and the rest of us now have to safeguard them from our own neighbors, not just foreign invaders or we're going to lose ther whole shebang.

I just want to be clear:
I wholeheartedly endorse the DNC and Hillary taking up WeeDavey and Ezra's argument that more dead Americans and Europeans from terrorist attacks is a measure of how well the war against the terrorists is progressing.
I also encourage the Dems to characterize those pointing out that Barry's "strategy" and many wars are a hopeless catastrophe and his unwillingness to acknowledge same is the mark of an infantile, unhinged mind are providing recruitment to the terrorists.
Using the victims of terrorism as evidence of success and having your standard bearer putting his hand in his coat like Napoleon while saying crazy things is bound to win the Dems lots of votes.
Have at it guys.

--That was the plan:)--
I meant I wasn't sure that I, as a baptized Christian who has no aversion to pork and pork byproducts, might not prefer staying in Syria to being baptized in pig blood myself, so I wasn't sure of its value as a winnowing of the herd.

It has taken this long [. . .] but I do finally regret my Obama vote in 2008.
Perhaps extrapolating too much from that latter quote, it appears a good part of the charm for him was things he said. And now the final straw is other things he said. Not to long-distance amateur psychoanalyze, but do you think that's a rational way of evaluating either prospective or past job performance?
Seems to me there's little difficulty in looking at candidate Obama's record, or his record as president, and determining he's unsuitable. Of course, if you're sifting through a lot of blather, that makes it more difficult . . . but seven years?
Democrats will never be trusted with American security ever again.
Bad news for you Dave; that ship has sailed.

The pig's blood thing wouldn't work because of taqqiya.
There is no way to get past taqqiya.

And speaking of taqqiya, the left's compulsion to lie to advance their unholy aims neatly explains the quotes from the the 2004 DNC keynote delivered by Jarrett's punkass little pet faggot.

If it tells a lie, it will float.

Which one of the Paris attackers was a widow?
Obama is sick. I mean the bastard is sick.

Which one of the Paris attackers was a widow?
When that last gal blew herself up, was her hubby already dead? Might need a ruling on this one.

Dudu,
If you are telling the truth you have bigger balls than 99% of the liberals I know.

Cecil:
Well this thread is dead, but I will answer here.
In 2008, the race was between (i) a senator with no executive experience, a number of viewpoints I found repellent, and a manner that suggested Jack Nicholson on a bad day and (ii) a senator with no executive experience, less viewpoints I found repellent, and maybe, and ability to get us to something resembling post-racial. I made my choice. I regret it now, but it wasn't flighty.
You note that what seems to have got me is yet more rhetoric. No, not really. I have long thought that Obama was a pretty abysmal President. McCain would have been an abysmal President, too. But he never would have gone to a foreign country, after an act of war, mumbled some mealy mouthed wimpy condemnation of ISIS, and then used the opportunity to rip, rip, rip the opposition.
Hence the regret. But the decision to go extra-Consitutional in late 2014 is as much in my mind as anything else.
