From the medical front, very bullish news that may connect to youth unemployment in Europe:
First results from human young blood rejuvenation trial expected
Dracula was on to something. The idea that blood from the young can rejuvenate an ageing human body might not be too far from the truth – but no biting is required.
Next year we’ll see the first results from a trial that has given young blood to people with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s in the hope that it will improve their symptoms.
There’s good reason to think it will. Years of animal experiments have shown that an infusion of young blood in older mice can improve their cognition, physical endurance and the health of several organs. It even makes them look younger.
OK, wow. But enough Holiday cheer.
I understand that not everyone here is Irish, so the ability to quickly segue to "How badly will this go wrong?" may not come as easily. In other words, yes, I am really pessimistic about the low level of pessimism here...
So just to help any sci-fi writers out there, suppose the medical benefits of this under-30 blood in over-80 veins are real, but also much more powerful with blood relations. Ahh, well! We are either talking about grandkids or the offspring of frisky old goats defying the emerging medical CW. My guess is that, in either case, new sets of societal strains would emerge.
OK, maybe not that new a societal strain - in most of the world children have always been the primary source of retirement support for the elderly. But taking the blood of the grandkids?
What will childless couples do, pester their nieces and nephews for more quality time with their offspring? And could a parent's timeless conversational gambit - "We're not getting any younger, when might we expect some grandkids?" - get any more fraught? Maybe!
The future is coming at us like a freight train.
I DEPLORE THESE GRATUITOUS CHEAP SHOT: Sure, if this works Hillary will be the first to find out, but that means the rest of us benefit from upgraded governance right? Right?!? Waddya mean, 'more BS faster'?

Buckeye Jr. spent the first 3 months of his life in the NICU in the early 80s. He had a surgery and a couple other reasons to require transfusions. This was before HIV/AIDS screening of the blood supply.
Damn terrifying when you get a call from a doctor telling you that they want to test your toddler for HIV because of the potential for having been infected.
Quite a few sleepless nights until the results came back negative.

Rush in Hour 3 taking aim at Jeb's comment that he feels comfortable not being the front runner.
Not verbatim Rush: Obviously in the Jeb camp they are still holding out hope that this race hasn't really even begun yet. They think voters will start to think more seriously as Iowa gets nearer and they'll quit being foolish and suddenly realize that Jeb is the guy they'll decide is the guy who can win.
Without actually saying Team Jeb is delusional Rush is saying Team Jeb is delusional.

I have seen it hypothesized that the ad slots were purchased up front with campaign donations collected before the campaign hit the iceberg.
It makes perfect sense if the people running the campaign financially benefit from whatever media operation is paid to handle the ads.
If so, then political campaigns really are little more than organized crime.

I think he's crazy.
Posted by: daddy | December 21, 2015 at 03:55 PM
daddy,
As far as I can tell, the only upside with delaying the Obamacare Cadillac and Medical Device taxes are that these both are necessary to fund Obamacare. Slowly many of the financial legs are being cut off.

That's a croc:)
Posted by: daddy | December 21, 2015 at 04:01 PM
But DrJ, when deficit spending does not seem to matter to either party, helping fund O'care or not is of little value.
Now having the Cadillac Tax land with both feet on the unions would have had great educational value, seems to me. The Medical Device Tax too is educational, just not with the smart bomb accuracy of the Cadillac Tax.
So those delays are in the D column as far as I am concerned. I think R's got skunked big time. Probably a 150 : 0 rout by the winner's own tally. (Being allowed to export $34 oil is of questionable near term utility, sorry Ryan...)

Still way behind but with a question about Lakeisha Holloway, the Black murderous driver in last nights Las Vegas Massacre.
I still can find almost nothing about her, and her story is getting very minimal coverage when I can get the TV remote control back from my daughters. I did see that Terrorism, which was ruled out last night, is no longer ruled out.
Any info you guys know about that I haven't got to yet?
My guess is that if this "crisis" allowed an avenue for SJW's to make racial/political headway, it wouldn't be going to waste.

And this is why my son will soon be famous: Artificial blood.
At the beginning of the school year, he had to register a "passion project" that he would research, write about and then present it to the whole class in January.
He chose "Advancing the Research to Reality: Artificial Blood and Eliminating Qualifications". No worries about HIV or STD or hepititas etc. His blood will be pure and full of good things like oxygen and made with water from St. Augustine.
The only issue at this time is whether I am prepared to give up a well functioning blender so he modify as a centrifuge:)

Juan is comparing terrorism to accidental deaths.
Greg points out that bathtubs don't try to blow up buildings.
(To this I would add that it's possible to prevent a lot of accidents by being CAREFUL, like don't run the hair dryer while you're in the bathtub, look both ways before crossing, don't leave candles burning when you go to sleep, etc.)
Terrorism is violence without warning, with an intent to kill people.
Juan also makes his lame point that the terrorists don't have the technology to do a large-scale attack, yet. Greg says "YET" and points out that the sarin gas attack on the Japanese subway was 20 years ago, so they could easily have the ability to do so.

A decade ago I had an adventuresome doctor who found that HGH seemed to clear his mind like "windshield wipers" on a car might. You know, just remove the clutter.
I tried it. While I took it I could remember everything quickly and accurately. It wasn't as if my memory was really fading, it was just that I could recall the B side to the record "Little Darlin'" without so much as a squint.
As I sit here, I know the B side was "Land of Beauty," but it might take some effort to pick it up.
Anyway, our medical betters put the breaks on HGH, in part because jocks were juicing with it and doctors were being audited for prescribing it.
Drinking the blood of young virgins (like Louis Jourdan as Count Dracula in the best of its ilk, the PBS version) seems a bit tiresome, it might bring back HGH as a saner version of anti-aging medicine.
