'I Wouldn't Keep Any School Open That Wasn't Doing A Better Than Average Job'
Math mavens will immediately wonder whether our once and future Queen was contemplating the mean, median or mode as a method of averaging. Half the schools will be below the median level by definition. As to mean and mode, that will depend on the distribution of whatever the heck we might be looking at on these hypothetical school report cards. In any case, this is all very hard to conceptualize - a Democrat threatening to close schools? Pigs will fly to algebra class first.
Well. Imagine that 90% of the schools grade at 80 and 10% grade at 50. The mean will be (no peeking!) less than 80 (77, for those who care), so 90% of schools will not be threatened with closure. Whether a wildly non-normal distribution like that is representative of reality is a question for brighter minds than mine.
And what happens in subsequent years when the low-scoring schools have been closed and the average of the surviving schools has (presumably) risen? Have the Hunger Games come to public education?
All very thought-provoking. I do hope Hillarity!'s spokespeople tell us she is serious, instead of hiding behind their pro forma "She was hitting the Nyquil again, pretty hard" excuse.
ersties!

Average or Median? If there was only one really, really, really crappy school it may be the only one needed to be shut down.

Our lurking friend and I have been speculating on what they measured and how, but that is short of actually reading the paper. We will get to that as beer supplies allow.

Then she notices that half of the remainder are still below average. So, ...

I'm concerned about how Obama has gutted the constitution. The only person who would bring us back is Cruz.

Rexburg, ID is where it's at.

Heh, lyle, we don't go to Rexburg for beer. We hit up Broulims in Driggs for that. We have to go to Rexburg for a big screen and stadium seating for the movie.
Rexburg is 45 minutes from here. Driggs is 10...
Star Wars is actually playing at Pierre's Playhouse in Victor (also 10 minutes from here). But Pierre's is tiny and wouldn't give the whole theater experience.

I've never been one to burden JOM too much with the travails and viccissitudes of my life on the earth but my niece is having brain surgery as I write to hopefully stop her epileptic seizures. A prayer or two would certainly be appreciated. The seizures have thus far been fairly mild--no grand mal or anything that severe. She's the only progeny of my batshit crazy sister, a detail I add only because I'm afraid that even with a successful outcome tonight, the niece is showing signs of becoming just like her mom.

JimmyK,
Rush did a segment on him today in I think Hour 1. I've never seen the Show Homeland so I don't know who he is or his character, but the overall point is that Mandy says he's learned all sorts of compassion form playing whoever he's played and therefore he hates Dick Cheney and Ted Cruz.

I suspect a drive to Charlotte is a bit far.
This is the only way to do movies and they usually have a Groupon for the weekday showings for $6, so we either eat and go for dessert and some booze or we eat there for dinner and booze. The food is standard bar fare, but good.
We are going to SW tomorrow night on the Dinner and a movie pass my brother gave us for Christmas, so we will have to confine it to Longhorns and the AMC with no booze. Thems the occasional breaks...

MAN JAILED AFTER STUDENT THREATENED OVER "STAR WARS" SPOILER
A Montana man is charged with threatening to shoot a boy for sharing information about a subplot of the new "Star Wars" movie during an online conversation.
Arthur Charles Roy, of Helena, was charged with felony assault with a weapon Monday during an appearance in Lewis and Clark County Justice Court. He remains jailed with his bail set at $10,000.

In the third season, saul took the man behind the murder of 200 or so colleagues at langley, and turned him against the mullahs, of course there was that gambit in pakistan, which enables a benghazi attack in islamabad, clever little games in berlin where he nearly permits a chemical attack in berlin, in part because of the Russian mole he was sleeping with. Narciso,
Speaking of "Withering" adjectives, this is what Ted Cruz tweeted:
“Classy. @washingtonpost makes fun of my girls. Stick w/ attacking me--Caroline & Catherine are out of your league.”
Here's the News Media using adjectives to describe Cruz's response:
That response, as described by
1) Politico: "Cruz Lashes Out"
"Lashing out" should be made of firmer stuff.
2) CNN: new ammunition Tuesday to shoot at his favorite bogeyman
3) CBS: Uproar from Candidate Ted Cruz
4) Daily Caller: Cruz GOES OFF On Washington Post
5) SUNTIMES: Cruz quickly condemned the cartoon
6) MRC News Busters Cruz responded in the following tweet:
Teams of
Editorsover eager thesaurus embellishers.Nice Job to MRC News Busters. Seems to me that the smaller the publication, the closer they get to valid description and the further from hyperbole.
