Roger Simon wonders:
What Happens if Hillary Isn't Indicted?
I can help here: What Happens After Hillary Isn't Indicted?
Team Hillary has successfully created a bit of a hostage drama. By clearing the field and keeping all credible alternatives nominees at bay, it will now be difficult for Dem party leaders to let the mere rule of law knock down their only credible Presidential candidate.
So what happens after the non-indictment? I think the analysis I can't find just now predicting Watergate style resignations will be the first step, as James Comey and top FBI leaders step down.
James Comey is a bit of a left-wing darling since he stood up to Team Bush/Cheney during the hospital room drama involving re-authorization of an NSA surveillance program, not to mention his part in siccing Special Counsel Fitzgerald on Cheney et al in the Plame "investigation".
Bygones. Depicting Comey as an eternal partisan hack will of course be Job One for the White House and the legacy media, and 2004 was a long time ago. Since Comey has been on the wrong side of the "Ferguson effect" question and the screening of Syrian refugees, a good progressive thrashing is overdue.
And after the Hillary non-indictment and the mass FBI resignations? Well, timing is everything - can AG Lynch really delay a decision not to indict past the election? With the leaks we have been seeing it does seem as if the kettle is about ready to whistle. If Comey recommends an indictment in February, can Lynch sit on that for nine months with no leaks? Please.
From a different direction, it is possible that White House and Hillarity! strategists (who are surely not monolithic on this) were hoping that Hillary would somehow catch fire and engage the public in a manner similar to Obama in 2008. If Hillary were touring the nation to the roar of adoring crowds then squashing the FBI recommendation might seem to be manageable. Or does someone think that the Obama Express could have been derailed in the summer of 2008 by a mere scandal?
But that hope should have been viewed as a longshot. Hillary's the One! Respected but not loved, no more endearing a campaigner than she was eight years ago, and not likely to be widely missed if she went away.
So now Dem thinkers can contemplate Hillary losing Iowa, losing New Hampshire, then facing a quashed indictment recommendation and major resignations at the FBI. Feeling the Bern?
In terms of timing, either the DoJ needs to tear off the band-aid like, yesterday, or risk creating a situation where Bernie Sanders has a straight path to the nomination and an establishment warhorse like Biden has no time left to get in the race. Or they can try to hold off on refusing an indictment until Hillary has won a few primaries somewhere, which may not be until March.
Well. The rules maven of the DNC will surely find a way to roll in Biden if Hillary's situation becomes sufficiently dire - surely the current rules allow for mid-course adjustments of a candidate has a disqualifying medical crisis, and those exceptions could probably extended to indictments or the threat thereof. One result will be a divided, dispirited party and a lot of disillusioned Sanders supporters.
Was that the first question?

If Bernie knocks off Hilligula, there is no way to derail the Bernie Express, the Dems will be stuck with him as the nominee. The cronies are already flocking to him, see Steyer.

BTW-- I think TomM has the percentages all wrong here. If Comey pushes for indictment, ValJar/OFA and the cronies make their move and go for the Clintonista jugular right now. Seriously, if Bernie can knock off Hilligula and BJC is electoral poison with under 50 women because of his serial predations, what electoral juice do the Clintons have? They will be ripe for OFA decapitation and a one way ticket to pardonville and the dog track. And the FBI and DoS IG will do all of the dirty work for ValJar, it's a beautiful thing for OFA. I think the odds of them going for the indictment/Clintonista destruction are way above 50% right now.

The Hill's lawyers are no doubt negotiating her exit from the POTUS race now. If I were part of Team Hill's legal team, I would be inclined to press hard for a pardon now and not rely on the Choomer to do the deed after the election and before his term ends. The risk is if she pushes too hard, Choomer will say to Lynch go ahead and indict. I think it's gotten to the point to where the spin machine can't cover this up.
I don't think Choomer pressing his rump swaps to demote Petraeus is to scare DOJ away from indicting The Hill. I think Choomer doesn't want to be viewed as forcing The Hill out of this race while letting a male, Petraues, keep his pension in full. I know the two aren't really comparable, because The Hill has no entitlement to be POTUS, but Choomer has to worry about optics, and Team Clinton is still well connected.

NK's 12:13 PM illustrates why The Hill may not have a lot of leverage. Choomer may conclude it's good politics to let an indictment go forth.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | January 20, 2016 at 12:22 PM

Posted by: Thomas Collins | January 20, 2016 at 12:25 PM
No O'Malley and no Bernie. Dem pooh-bahs will attempt to anoint Biden or Warren. I could see a Biden/Warren ticket. But Bernie might not go down without a rousing battle. Best scenario: Bernie gets close to a majority of delegates, and Dem superdelegates are needed to put Biden over the top.

I remember 1968's dem convention in Chicago. The people who had been RFK supporters transferred their grief and rage to the dem party establishment and Hubert Humphrey, resulting in those riots.
I think people would be pretty mad if they pull a rules change and dump Bernie. The only way it would work is if Bernie claimed a "health issue" which kept him from running. If Bernie doesn't cooperate and there is a floor fight, it could get very interesting.

There is increasing suspicion that the temperature series have been fiddled with. The worst lately has been a re-analysis of temperature by NOAA, emails about which are being sought by Congressional Republicans. NOAA has stalled on releasing the emails. Apparently there has been a whistleblower, who has whistled either that normal scientific procedures were not followed, or there was interference from above. Developing.....
The now nearly 20 year pause in warming is just too embarrassing for the alarmists, now divided in half between those still claiming no pause, and those trying to explain the pause away. It's all great fun to watch.
Again, the satellite series has 2015 as the third highest, still behind 1998.
And next is La Nina, but not for a little while.

Bernie supporters seem to have real enthusiasm for his candidacy, and affection for him. Even if he is convinced to go quietly, his true believers are going to feel robbed.
I think this would be much worse than the PUMAs in 2004. Where they were upset about Hillary being pushed aside for the charismatic Obama, at least Obama had been in the race and won a lot of his own delegates. And in the end, he was able to unite the party behind him
To push aside Sanders, if he wins fair and square, or is on the verge of winning … It wouldn’t surprise me to see a democrat faction go third party.

He also said that they should leave Petraus alone, he's paid for what he did, and what he did was way smaller than what Hillary did. Even his landing at the Tulsa airport was live streamed, the announcer said that Obama gets the same level of security. Palin and Todd were with him on the Trump plane and they are on the Trump Train!

My wife and I were on business conf calls at the time. The urgency? She had just been accepted to Univ of Edinburgh Architect History/Preservation masters program Sept '16 - June '17. She needed to let us know, and let us bask in her glory. She is waiting on Pratt in Bklyn and will have to choose. It is a real vocation and she seems to be passionate, so we are happy for her. Ya hear that Gus, my daughter may be a Scot for a year!

No,no, no, no. OL, you cannot be out on the ledge and only 1/2 agree with Mahon. You have to fully negative and depressed as well as fatally resigned to everything happening that drove you out there in the first place.
Please stop giving pessimissim half a reason for reforming.

Right now, the most probable outcome is JustUs chooses not to prosecute when the referral finally shows up, Red Witch wins the nomination and loses the general. If she does withdraw, it will be for "health" reasons.
Comrade Sanders may do well in New Hampshire but Red Witch will be fine after Super Tuesday. The makeup of the crowds for Sanders does not suggest a high conversion rate at all.

RickB-- who is enthusiastic for Hilligula other than high net worth libs in metro/burbs -- like my law partners. I wonder how committed her cronies are at this point? I mean the 'right wing conspiracy' shite about an Obummer IG appointee? she really is stroke addled and out of it.
