Henry

Maybe you missed it when I agreed with you that Axelrod is a major league dirt bag. Is that really the best you can do?

henry

The Deathstar 2.0 is fueling on their star in preparation for obliterating their planet.

henry

You still cash his checks.

Another voice I respect says this on Twitter:

Jay Cost

I don't think conservative members need to endorse a particular candidate, but they should signal to their voters what Trump is about.

Truthbetold

So you believe Axelrod pays people to trash him. Sound thinking, Henry

henry

We will see how good Denvers D is now. Carolina has all systems go.

Threadkiller

Does the clock always stop for an incomplete pass?

henry

If not Axelrod, who pays you?

mad jack

Hi all: It's been a while since I've checked in but having gotten my snowblower started on the first pull today I have to chime in on topic. Good news was the snowblower started, bad news was three hours of snowblowing followed since none of my neighbors could get their SB' s going. I am one tired SOB...then I got to watch my Pats take the pipe. Not good.

I've been lurking on occasion but please tell me that the the pro Trump comments are just to stir the pot. I love that he had the juice to put subjects or views that would otherwise be verboten in "respectable" company on the table but like a WEE character he will switch sides in a NY minute. This is a fact that cannot be disputed.
That is all. Keep up the good work.
Ps. I will vote for the GOP nominee even if it is the Donald. Demos delenda est.

Dave (in MA)

Yep, narc.

narciso

well the logical thing should have been for national review to endorse cruz, but they didn't have consensus on that point, apparently,

Threadkiller

Good to see you mad jack!

I try to stick to pro-birther comments only.

TK, yes. Clock always stops.

Thank TK. I know I can count on you!

I never noticed.

I thought it was for out of bounds throws only.

Sorry, TK not narciso.

I hope Clarice and the rest of you in the snow area having as much fun playing in the snow as that panda did.

I guess it bothers tbt to be outed as an Axelrod shill. Sad that Ernie Souchak has to hide behind a sock puppet name while taking Axelrod money. But the world is what it is,

Rick Ballard

Derwill,

In Iowa successful campaigns in the past have consisted of 800-1000 precinct captains (Cruz has 1300) willing to canvas and round up pledge cards prior to the actual caucus. Dean found out how important it was for precinct captains to, if not live in the precinct, at least live in Iowa. Santorum was able to mobilize precinct captains to win in '12 on a very low budget but he isn't really trying this time.

Rubio has a ground team that is doing well but he started recruiting and training somewhat later than Cruz who began in early summer. It's fairly important to have your precinct captains organized and trained prior to the holidays and it's a real plus to nab experienced precinct captains early.

Trump began recruiting precinct captains in early December. I'm sure they were more than willing to undergo training and begin canvasing over the holidays.

Wouldn't anyone?

Dave (in MA)

h/t Stephanie

And by "h/t" I mean "blame".

I point out that Donald Trump is a con man pro-bono.

The panda video was fantastic. Maybe we should all go frolic in the snow for a few moments.

Maryrose: No votes have been cast yet so it's still possible JEB! could pull it off. Just kidding but I need to see The Donald' s ground game in action before I'm convinced I have to hold my nose.

That "60 Minutes" piece last Sunday on Chinese cyber spying was pretty good, I thought -- which is why I remembered to link to it, yesterday.

Here's their summary:

"The Justice Department says that the scale of China's corporate espionage is so vast it constitutes a national security emergency, with China targeting virtually every sector of the U.S. economy, and costing American companies hundreds of billions of dollars in losses -- and more than two million jobs."

I have no idea how accurate those numbers are, but would guess, on general grounds, that they are within an order of of magnitude, maybe even within a a factor of two, of being correct.

(I assume that's the permanent folks in the Justice Department, not Loretta Lynch.)

henry

Ah, Axelrod pays you to harass Clarice.

narciso

yes, that neuralizer is going to twelve,

henry

Jim, look here.

narciso

yikes, that's quite illustrative,

I didn't know Akamai, were attackers in that way before,

Here's a news flash for you. Axelrod would love for the republican nomination to be Trump.

Mr Ballard is, of course, way ahead of me. Part of the reason I generally only lurk.

Narciso, the Seattle is Boeing, the St Louis is the former McDonnell Douglas (now also Boeing) where cruise missiles along with other defense goodies are done. Some of the others are tough to tell... but the onslaught is impressive in intensity,

More Bernie economics at work...ya really think a millennial is gonna shell out bucks for some Granny panties?

henry

Well akami is used as a pass through. Just wait, Obama relinquished internet control. It will get much worse.

clarice

Golly, I hope the hackers don't get into Amazon. I might have to go into stores again.

henry

Tbt, you would know what's on your boss's mind.

henry

Clarice, they already are in your bank (yes all of them).

Truthbetold

Keep defending Trump, Henry

narciso

north korea, doesn't seem to be a major originator, wonder why that is,

derwill

Thanks, Rick. I didn't know that about Iowa. Are the GOP precinct captains disproportionally evangelicals, compared to the base as a whole? That would explain why the winner there has not always been predictive of what comes after Iowa, i.e. Santorum and Huckabee.

So if Trump has no real ground structure and yet he still wins in Iowa? Mind you, I'm neither predicting, nor even hoping this happens, but holy mother, if that does happen there are going to be many exploding heads inside the beltway, they're going to need snow plows to get rid of the blood and gore.

Dave (in MA)

Stephanie, like I asked on FB, is there a women's version?

Truthbetold

Henry, are you defending Trump per Clarice's orders?

Dave (in MA)

Clarice, it was nice to have Amazon drive up and hand me a parcel on Sunday while I was shoveling the driveway.

Heh, the Norks. Yeah, they are as culpable as a certain video maker. For much the same reason.

mad jack

Here's the thing with Trump. He's either going to win this thing early or he's done. Relying on expatriate Massholes is a dicy proposition.

narciso

it struck me, how all of Sony's info, all ended up with Anonymous, which is more of a Russian front.

henry

No, Clarice gave me a nice lunch, but no orders. Do I need to dox you and get my own answers?

Threadkiller

"Trump's strategy relies on converting the thousands of attendees from his large-scale events across the state into committed caucusgoers even though many have not participated in the process before.

"If they can give up three hours on a Saturday afternoon, I think we can get them to give up 45 minutes on a Monday night," State Director Chuck Laudner told CNN, referring to the lines and waits endured by Trump supporters at rallies.

Four years ago Laudner helped propel Santorum to an unlikely victory in Iowa after Santorum moved to the state and drove to all 99 of the state's counties in a pickup truck.

This election year, Laudner's candidate travels by helicopter and private jet and has spent a fraction of his time in Iowa. But he's certainly got everyone's attention."

Rick Ballard

mad jack,

Perhaps actual organization won'tmatter this time and the rather narrow demographic supporting Trump, which has never been noted for actually showing up in the past, will show up this time. The Ronulan demographic certainly showed up in '12 and there is a definite overlap but the Ronulans started very early and reasonably strong on their precinct work. The Deaniacs started a little late and wound up having to rely on imported volunteers. The Deaniacs generated 18% while the Ronulans managed 22% so the Trumpeteers have some comparatives to consider.

Dave (in MA)

5 minutes in, the nutbag character on the X Files is "conservative".

Truthbetold

Derwill, you clearly have a handle on the situation. Now for sure I will follow your lead.

Threadkiller

Trump may or may not win Iowa.

Jim Miller

henry - Thanks much for that link.

Here's a local story that hasn't got much national attention: Recently, Microsoft signed a deal with the Chinese to set up a joint research outfit in this area.

I don't know what kinds of safeguards the Microsoft folks plan to use -- and as far as I know, no local journalists are interested in that question.

henry

Way to go out on a limb TK. ;)

JMHanes

I don't know if there's some history here with Truthbetold that I don't know about, but jeez. His stuff is tame compared to they way folks used to talk about Romney, and often still do. There were plenty of choice words for Romney supporters too. Answering a question here and there would certainly waste a lot less column inches, not to mention the recently vaunted SOB maneuver.

Texas Liberty Gal:

I'm really beginning to think that Trump was right when he said he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Ave.without losing a vote. We'd be hearing that it was the smart move, that we need a Pres who will take it to the other guy….

Truthbetold

Clarice's step and fetch it. Have at it Henry

narciso

he's not expected to, the character is supposed to be based on Alex Jones,

Dave (in MA)

Yeah, I get that n, but 911Troofers aren't "conservative".

narciso

no of course not, Van Jones, Tourette's syndrome, Alec Baldwin, Charlie Sheen,

henry

Jim, my understanding is that to do business in China you must (that should be all caps) assign the relevant intellectual property to a majority Chinese owned entity. (For this reason, my "Chinese" customers run on remote servers located in Iowa). Given that, any major tech firm is already compromised beyond recognition by China. FYI that includes Boeing's outsourcing of airliner parts (minor shit like wings and fuselages) to whatever any Western firm makes or sells inside China. Thus Chinese working jointly with Microsoft is old hat.

Threadkiller
On Friday night, the candidate who almost always flies home in his private Boeing 757 to Trump Tower in New York or to his palatial Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla., instead slept in a Holiday Inn Express in Sioux City, Iowa. (“Good mattress,” he said afterward. “Clean.”)
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/01/25/us/politics/donald-trump-in-iowa-sleeping-over-attending-church-getting-serious.html

Stayed at a Holiday Inn last night?

Rick Ballard

Derwill,

The precinct captains aren't necessarily over weighted with church goers but going to church in Iowa is somewhat more common than Blue Hells. Precinct captains with past experience who are comfortable with public speaking are the most sought after and that's where early recruiting has the largest pay off. Romney started early and did an excellent recruiting job in '12, that's why he was able to thwart Santorum's hope for a real catapult out of Iowa.

henry

Otay. I'm not hiding. You ready to be doxxed?

narciso

well that's reassuring, they don't need a hanson, or a Fairwell network,

clarice

Rock, I think this is how Trump's going to pull off Iowa:http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/01/24/iowa-gop-chairman-party-will-support-donald-trump-one-thousand-percent-if-he-wins-nomination/

Support from the governor, the GOP chairman and crossover votes.

henry - I think the location here in the Seattle area might give the Chinese spies some added advantages.

(It's unkind of me to say so, but I thought Xi's tour of this area had the air of an emperor looking over an area he expects will be part of his empire -- eventually.)

Truthbetold

We'll see won't we

henry

Jim, yes. That makes sense. Assuming they don't implode first.

Janet

I'm really beginning to think that Trump was right when he said he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Ave.without losing a vote. We'd be hearing that it was the smart move, that we need a Pres who will take it to the other guy….

Hahaahaaha!! True. Remember how much everyone loved Rep. Wilson yelling "You lie!". Politicians didn't like it, the MFM didn't like it...but the regular Joe, conservative voters liked it. We were starved for it even back then.
I tend to stick up for Trump too even though he is not my favorite.

I've been called every nasty name by Dems, the MFM, & Republicans over the years & I am sick of it.
I guess I relate to Trump in that regard. He is treated as I have been treated & it grates on me.

henry

Tbt, out of sight, out of mind is an excellent survival strategy.

Someone who hides behind a sock puppet web registration should heed that.

Rick Ballard

Clarice,

The GOPe certainly recognizes a kindred spirit ready to climb right into the Golden Trough to snort and grovel on a shoulder to shoulder basis so he might pull it off. There's a split though - Grassley is playing it down the middle with his last appearance being with Rubio (after cuddling Trump this week) and Ernst will also be with Rubio (without endorsing him).

I don't believe the final split will be dispositive wrt the future.

That would explain why the winner there has not always been predictive of what comes after Iowa, i.e. Santorum and Huckabee.

Henry, if you think you intimidate me you are more delusional than I thought.

Porch, I think the present concern isn't the prediction of a winner coming out of Iowa, it is saving face with all the predictions of a loser going into Iowa.

Porchlight

I guess I relate to Trump in that regard. He is treated as I have been treated & it grates on me.

Right. Yet another reason why the NR speshul anti-Trump issue is so tone-deaf. It comes off as patrician snobbery. If WFB really meant the whole phone book thing, his heirs are showing no evidence of it.

Stephanie

Dave I assumed those were the men's model. Pajama boy style.

Not unkind, Jim Miller - very observant.

Truthbetold

Gus, you spend a great deal of time on this comment board and you call me needy. That's funny.

derwill

From TLG's link: "So now we have FOX as well as CNN producing polls this week that show 300,000 Iowans are voting in the Iowa Caucuses, and therefore Trump with a double-digit lead. Allow me to put those projected turnout numbers in perspective:
That’s about a 200% voter increase from the highest Iowa Caucus turnout ever back in 2008."

This tells me that if Trump does win in Iowa now, with that kind of turnout, then all the conventional wisdom about his electability or lack thereof in the general should probably be thrown out the window.

That would be such a huge shift in voter turnout, that I can't imagine it happening, but if it does . . . well, wow.
