The NY Times reports from the world of AI, or might have:
Hillary Clinton, Battling in Iowa, Turns Warm Under Pressure
DAVENPORT, Iowa — At big ballroom dinners on the campaign trail, Hillary Clinton often emerges from behind a curtain to deliver a speech, then disappears again behind the folds when finished.
But on Saturday night, under a disco ball that seemed to brighten everything around her, Mrs. Clinton took an impromptu stroll around the Starlite Ballroom here, shaking hands, posing for selfies and signing, “Best wishes, Hillary,” when attendees at the Democratic Party dinner handed her copies of her books.
A disco ball? It was back to the 70's for Hillary, when it was Richard Nixon rather than Herself that was about to be indicted. And the observation that after a speech she no longer has to return to hiding for a recharge provides more evidence of an enhancement to the power supply. Maybe she could give a lecture on potential lithium shortages or the viability of fuel cells?
“I really appreciate you reading this,” she told one man who had a copy of “Hard Choices,” her 560-page memoir about her tenure at the State Department husband's 560 page memoir of a lifetime of sexual predation. [Wait, editor!!] “It’s a complicated world, isn’t it?”
Indeed it is.
For this next bit of Times reporting it helps to get Arnold's 'Terminator' voice playing in your head:
She talked about the snow in New York and her granddaughter, and she helped an older woman snap her first selfie. “Here, I’ll show you, it’ll be fun!” she said, grabbing the iPhone and extending her arm.
"It will be fun". Not quite "I'll be back", but workable.
Apparently her high-priced strategists have concluded that humans prefer a pretense of human contact so they have made the Hard Choice to send her out amongst a crowd of people who have not paid $200,000 to hear her speak. Breakthrough stuff.
I've always wondered how people wearing vinyl outfits like that keep from getting sweaty and developing rashes.

Fox News responded in a statement given to Mediaite, saying:
We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.

Rick Ballard,
From my reading of Trump, he would want to be remembered as the guy who saved the country, not one who knifed people in the back. He has children who bear his name and to whom he would like to pass a good name and successful legacy.
The question, however, is HIS idea of what will benefit him and the country the correct one? I am not sure.
However, what we have is NOT working. When I see Ari Fleischer on Fox explaining that he thinks this is a reaction to how no one has gotten things done and the country is a mess, and that people are preferring Trump to liberal or conservative, I think we have some sort of sea change. Ari said he thinks the country is splitting into left, right, and Trump populism.
Posted by: Miss Marple | January 26, 2016 at 07:09 PM
That jump is off a cliff, not on a bandwagon.
Posted by: Truthbetold | January 26, 2016 at 07:10 PM
Trump spokesperson says he definitely, definitely will not be in the Fox debate. Sooo...wonder what deal he cut with another network to televise him during his one-man show at the same time? You can be sure all the competing networks lined up for the honor.

Maybe Trump could run on the Democrat ticket too, and just obviate the need for an election altogether.
Posted by: JMHanes | January 26, 2016 at 07:15 PM
Well, centrical, what I think is that we are seeing an example of someone who will stand up to the press and who will fight.
Why haven't we seen this type of thing before? Imagine if the RNC had put their foot down about stuff before Romney debated? And I will bet you 10 bucks if it hadn't been for Trump the RNC wouldn't have dumped the NBC debate.
Either it will work for him or not.
I do have to point out that Kelly had that loser Beck on to spout off his nutso opinion a couple of days ago. She has made a point of going after trump over the last few weeks.
Can't say as I blame him. Just don't know if it will help or hurt him.

Miss Marple:
what I think is that we are seeing an example of someone who will stand up to the press and who will fight.
We made a lot of fun of Obama and the Dems boycotting Fox debates in 2008. Not one time did someone on the right say, "see how they stand up to the press and see how they fight!"
Nah, they were chicken of being confronted with something less than adulatory treatment.
Seems to me that Trump is not so much standing up to and fighting the press here as he is running away.
But we all are coming at this from different angles, and I'm not even all that interested in "how it will affect the polls".

Question for JOM Team Legal. Can the FBI simply continue the investigation so long that it never ends and they never get to the point of making a decision on a criminal referral?
I see from a quick Google search that the FBI has been investigating her E-mail mess since at least August of 2015 and probably well before that, so that's 6 months for starters. How long does such a thing take? Do they need to have absolutely completed the investigation of every piece of paper, email etc, before they can make a decision, or can they render a call for Criminal Referral at any time they have enough evidence and still keep looking? if the former, then she and her cronies can stall until after the election just by dragging this out forever.

My bet is we'll see a letter from the IG DNI stating that referrals have been made to DoJ as a result of their investigations. No names but references to intelligence providers as well as State (ClintonCoven) before we'll ever see anything but "We do not comment on ongoing investigations." from Comey.
There's a reason why the IG DNI appointed by Obama has been nominated for membership in the VRWC by Clinton.

Perhaps this is a gamble by Trump to continue to cut the legs out from under the GOPe establishment. He knows many of the FOX News guys hate him. He knows George Will and DrK and Megyn hate him. He knows the RNC and NRO hates him. So maybe this is the equivalent of running as a 3rd party Candidate while under the umbrella of running as the Repub Nominee, in order to cause consternation and provoke a poorly thought out reaction among the Priebus's and the Establishment, all in an effort to chop down their party and woo even more supporters to his side. Certainly doesn't seem like an overly outrageous tactic from a guy who thrives on reality TV. Regardless, he's generating a ton of headlines by doing this. What's that old line about "Dahling, there's no such thing as bad publicity."
Beats me, but my guess is he'll be at the Debate.

I am wondering if we are seeing the end of network control of debates. That would be a good thing.
I have always felt they should be run by the parties and a live stream provided to networks. Questioners in primary debates should be members of the parties being questioned.

Yep, and it's interesting because Ailes handled very gingerly the reactions to Trump's priors re: Megyn and Krauthammer. It looks like Ailes might use this debate no-show to make a clean break from the Donald, ratings be damned. Of course, a man who can shoot someone on 5th Avenue (maybe Trump will get that done during the debate) without fear of losing followers isn't going to worry about some silly network.

S THIS THE END OF ROGER AILES?
Clarice Feldman and Robb Evans show that the totally partisan and unprofessional statement given out by Fox News BEFORE Trump cancelled was sent to at least TWO places, Business Insider and Mediate... There must have been more.
As NY Mag points out this week, Murdoch is now showing up at the daily news meetings at Fox. And we know the Murdoch kiddies HATE Ailes and would love to get rid of him.
It isn't about a feud between Meghan Kelly (gallantly supported by Fox) and unreasonable egomanic Trump any more.
It is about totally unprofessional and partisan behavior by a network against one particular candidate. And every media professional will know just how bad that is.
It's not just ethics... it is going to cost Fox millions.
