Newbie. TM banned several people, they were just too tech savvy for it to take.

What, 10 years ago? How many have been banned in the last, say, 5 years?

Absolutely none.

The idea that banning takes place today? Er, well, not so much.

Maybe I'm a newbie, but at least I'm not living in the past. :)

I also want to walk the High Line, even it's not the season (or apparently the weather, either) for it.

There's been no trace of winter yet (50s in December, 40s in January) and nothing showing up in the forecast either except some days in the 30s, so the High Line could work. Morgan or Frick would be good, haven't been to either in decades.

On the off chance you're really too dim to figure this out: my problem with you is no longer birtherism crap. I asked you to desist on that a very long time ago, but that ship has sailed. My problem with you now is that you're talking to me, and you have nothing interesting to say.

I went to the Frick for the first time, too, a couple of years ago, and it was pretty spectacular. Every time I turned around it was, wow, this oh-so-familiar painting has been hanging here? Did you see the Sargent portrait show at the Met? I eked out a walk through just a couple days before it closed, and it was one of the most fascinating shows I've seen in a long time -- partly because it included so many secondary works as well so much first rate stuff.

sbw

jimmyk suggested that Friday night was problematic but that Saturday night was possible. Although other nights are possible, Saturday night I may be able to get my wife to NYC.

Incidentally, my wife is now Elementary School Principal sbw, as of the Board of Education meeting last Wednesday. A lot of work for her to complete her CAS. She is a natural. Loves every one of her little munchkins.

I admire her talents, skills, and ability.

Cecil Turner

Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL.

Might be a little strong. He did well today, but the initial safety followed by the Redskins drive had all the makings of a fiasco.

If Jackson had been smart enough to put the ball over the line after the catch, it'd have been an entirely different ball game. But he trailed it in and the ball was (correctly) spotted at the 1/2 yard line, and the Pack dominated the line of scrimmage, and had the moral advantage thereafter.

Captain Hate on the iPad

There is always next year, and the year after that and the year after that.......

I know it isn't obvious now but this is the most optimistic I've been about the Skins heading into the offseason now that Snyder gave Scot McGloughan the keys to the franchise. The Skins overachieved by even making it to the playoffs and I expect next season to be better than this.

DrJ

Happy birthday, caro! I sure had a wonderful time with you when I visited SLC! (For the family viewers, it was all conversation.)

And happy belated birthdays to Marlene and Mr. Frau!

glas, enjoy the crab. Our Dungeness season has not started yet; the Cioppino I had with jimmyk had pacific northwest Dungeness in it. Yum! And the Pinot should be suitable; I might have gone for a Marlborough Sauv Blanc, but tastes do differ.

One benefit of living in CA -- ignoring the expense and the corruption -- is the range of things to do. MrsJ and I decided this morning to do some wine tasting, so we headed down to El Dorado county to do so. It was a glorius sunny day, and after the recent rain storms, it was much appreciated. Very good wines, though none was transcendental.

We finished it off with a wonderful Veracruz fish made with with fire-roasted jalapenos and a Sangeovese we bought on the excursion. Great combination.

Life can be good.

Sue

In our division the Redskins over performed? We still had a shot of winning our division when we were 3 and 10. All of us sucked.

GUS

Yes Cecil... IF.....

IF IF, IF, My Grandmother could juggle ELEPHANTS, she would be the strongest woman alive...

narciso

well 'from a certain point of view' that's true,

Cecil Turner

Heh. No argument, Gus. My point was only that the momentum shift came from the defense, and in particular the defensive line.

And then in the third quarter the offensive line took over, and managed to move the ball despite no credible threat of a passing game into the wind. And AR led them all quite ably and cannily throughout, using the clock like a maestro (and making them pay twice for sloppy substitutions) . . . but he had to have some help to get started.

sbw

Catching up birthday wishes for Caro and Marlene!

narciso

yep, you can't be an army of one, and you can't be a team that way either,

GUS

The Packers have stunk since they started 6 and ZERO. Since then, they have been 4 and 6 and one of those wins was a HAIL MARY at DETROIT. The Packers won today, because of Aaron Rodgers, and because the PACKERS defense was better than the REDSKINS offense.

GUS

Exactly Cecil. Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL.

Cecil Turner

Yes, but . . . there's a whole lot of difference between the Redskins and the Cardinals. (And in fact, I think losing the division game was the best thing that could've happened to 'em.)

Janet

They won because my Naomi wore plenty of Packers gear & Deacon wore a Packers bandanna.
I said a very formal prayer using lots of old language & Naomi yelled, "Almighty God, let the Pack win! In Jesus name, Amen!"

It was that simple.

GUS

Cecil, the Cardinals are a much better team than Green Bay. The Redskins should have beaten Green Bay. It's quite simple.

Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL.

I do not expect the Packers to beat Arizona.
But... the Packers kicked the REDSKINS' collective ass..... because.
Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL.

I googled Marlborough Sauv Blanc DrJ and it does sound marvelous. Might even be able to find some around this part of the country. Even tho we produce a bunch of wine in our valley there's always a pretty fair representation from around the country and also outside of it.

Since we were going down memory lane a bit I was thinking back to when I joined comments on JOM and I believe it was right around ten years or a little more ago. I was searching out treatments for a health issue that was pretty serious but turned out OK. Have been pretty lucky 'cause I just dealt with another health issue with two biopsies turned out to be benign. A really bad bleeding spot on the bridge of my nose.

When we dealt with the MF Global bankruptcy with whom we had an account I didn't comment too much from that time on. And when I looked up when that took place it was end of October 2011. So some of the old timers may remember me from former days.

I feel really lucky to have found friends online here and love my gal pals - and you know who you are!

Captain Hate on the iPad

The Redskins should have beaten Green Bay. It's quite simple.

The Redskins were 0-4 against teams with winning records coming into today's game. The better team won.

< lockquote>A stunning new Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) report circulating in the Kremlin today states that one of the United States Navy’s top commanders was relieved of his command a few hours ago after he sent out an “email/posting” revealing that President Barack Obama was in the process of purchasing a multi-million dollar seaside luxury villa in the United Arab Emirates city (UAE) of Dubai.

According to this report, the Commander of the US Navy’s Carrier Strike Group 15, Rear Admiral Rick Williams, posted a “pointed” query on 8 January [since deleted] to the US Naval Institute’s “Readiness Kill Chain” “recipients/responders” list as to why Navy security and intelligence personal had been dispatched fromNaval Support Facility Thurmont (aka Camp David) to Dubai on what he termed an “Obama house hunting mission”.

For those who are not into wines, Marlborough is a region of New Zealand that produces arguably the best Sauvignon Blanc wines in the world. They have a steely, mineral quality that all from that region share, and there are none like them from anywhere else, though the Alsatian wines come close.

Here we can get them in drug stores and better; they are inexpensive ($8 to $15 per bottle) and they really are good. Try them! They are a perfect complement to crab.

Capn. Green Bay started 6 and zero. Green Bay lost at HOME to each and ever NFC NORTH rival. Detroit, Minnesota and Chicago ALL BEAT GREEN BAY in GREEN BAY. Quite ironically, Green Bay beat each of the aforementioned NFC NORTH rival on the road, including the FINAL PLAY HAIL MARY, in DETROIT.
The Packers WERE 6 and 0. The Packers were 4 and 6 IN THE home stretch, and that includes the Detroit Hail Mary.
There is something VERY WRONG with the Packers, up to and including today.
BUT!!! The Packers won, the Redskins lost.

Re: narcissi's 10:36.

So on the one hand we have the Islamic Terrorist in Philly shooting a cop, telling us that he shot the cop because he's an Islamic Terrorist, and yet the Mayor there says he's not an Islamic terrorist regardless what the Perp says.

And on the other hand, apparently our screening process for these Syrian refugees, is to ask them if they're Terrorists. If they say no, that suffices to let them in free.

It makes me wonder if we'd now let them in, even if they said "Yeah, I'm a Terrorist."
