Bob Dole knows losing:
Bob Dole Warns of ‘Cataclysmic’ Losses With Ted Cruz, and Says Donald Trump Would Do Better
Bob Dole is a great American but not so great a Presidential nominee, although he did run against an incumbent with a growing economy, yada yada. But why Trump would be less of a disaster than Cruz, or why either would be a disaster in the current climate, is not at all obvious to me.
Sure, if the economy doesn't crater, Hillary is not indicted, and Ms. Clinton somehow finds some mojo and actual voter appeal against Sanders, and we don't experience too many more San Bernardino style attacks, than the Republicans will be underdogs. If, if, if if and if.
NOT THAT WE ARE KEEPING SCORE BUT... Off the top of my head there have been recent attacks in Beirut, Paris, San Bernardino, Istanbul, Djarkata, Baghdad, hmm, Pakistan, Burkina Faso - not good. Are Hillary supporters sure the US won't be hit again? or do they hope a 'rally round the flag' effect will swing the public behind our cool and detached (not to say 'out of touch') C-in-C?
Myself, I'm looking for chuck roast recipes tonight.

Not a word of substance on policy from Dole in that piece---it's all about how the candidate will or won't get along with the powers that be in DC. That's why we are in this mess, Bob.

Pot Roast or Chuck = olive oil+salt and pepper. Rub in. Set in pan.
Surround with carrots, onions and potatoes or parships. Chop some celery. Add red wine, canned chopped tomatoes, beef stock a garni bouquet. Sprinkle with minced garlic and roast, baby roast. 165F for medium rare. Oh, pre-heat oven to 375.
Its what I do in a pinch.

Oven roasted, anonomom? I'd start with heavy seasoning of s&p, onion and garlic powder, chopped rosemary and paprika. I sear mine over very high heat on my grill in a cast iron pan then transfer to the oven on a rack in a roaster pan. Add dry red wine, minced garlic, and some beef stock, a bay leaf and roast until done. Remove roast, tent it with foil and let stand. Heat the pan liquid on the stovetop and add a slurry of corn starch and water to thicken it up. More s&p to taste.
Posted by: lyle | January 20, 2016 at 07:21 PM
You should probably strain your pan sauce before adding the cs slurry but if you don't make sure to remove the bay leaf. Bon appetite!

Because God forbid the public should catch wind of it!
I wonder if the Times interviewer asked Dole the Imus question: "Well, is he?" "Is he what?" "Is he a liar--was Cruz right about this?"
I don't really wonder...

Mainstream conservative Trump;
"Donald Trump hosted two fundraisers for uber-establishment candidate Charlie Crist in 2009, as Crist tried unsuccessfully to fend off a challenge from conservative upstart Marco Rubio. Trump was all establishment, all the time, as he also donated to Harry Reid to help him defeat Tea Party insurgent Sharron Angle in 2010.
One more thing: Trump contributed $50,000 to help make Rahm Emanuel, the ultimate corrupt Democratic Party politico, the mayor of Chicago. That’s turned out well!"

I share lyle's angst from the previous thread:
"There is the possiblity that Trump's support could prove a mile wide, but an inch deep."
A recent poll by ABC has some telling numbers that Iggy also referred to yesterday. Trump's favorable numbers are *even worse* than Hil-LIAR-y's favorable numbers among the total electorate.
"There are some telling differences among groups. Trump’s favorability rating is just 18 percent among Hispanics and blacks alike, vs. 44 percent among whites. And Trump is seen favorably only by 28 percent of women, vs. 42 percent of men.
There’s a sharp gender gap on Trump even within the GOP: He’s popular with 67 percent of Republican men, compared with 48 percent of Republican women. He’s lost 19 points among GOP women since November, vs. a scant -3 among GOP men. He also has dropped 16 points among less-educated Republicans, one of Trump’s central support groups."
IOW, if the Trumpster were to win the vote of *every single voter* who has a favorable opinion of him, he is limited to less than 35% of the vote.
That would seem to be the very epitome of support that is "a mile wide, but an inch deep."

Hi, Porchlight!
I have been watching old episodes of "Murder She Wrote." I found it better to step away from politics for a while.
I must say that the nastiness of so many in all wings of the party has been disheartening. While people like Cooke and Wilson and others may feel that they are doing God's work, the average people who read their stuff on Twiter or see their columns and such are repelled. At least I am.
So I decided to just step away and do something distracting.

I put zero confidence in what the "experts" have to say. At the end of the day, my number one priority is to see Hillary get her fat ass kicked. Beyond that, everything is gravy.
