It may have something to do with not getting enough votes. It is hard to compete against free stuff. It's not like we can afford to be purists. Need every vote.--

Well, the question is, is something not tried because it can't be done or is it not done because it isn't tried?
Pretty sure to the Progressives of 1900 the mountain they had to scale to get where we are now looked harder than Nanga Parbat in winter.
Moreover if we transported today's 'let's be reasonable' mentality to 1776 we'd still be stuck with Piers Morgan and bonny Prince Charlie.

Everyone in Washington knows that the Republican establishment is going to do a little Kabuki dance on nominating a liberal supreme court justice to avoid the anger of the base.

Can we stop for just one second to appreciate the irony of the Republican establishment not wanting to anger the Republican base? After intentionally firing them up and systematically radicalizing them over the last 30 years so that they'd come out en masse to vote against their own economic interests, the health of their children and the safety of their country etc etc the Republican establishment is frightened of the very monster it created.

Anyway,as resident troll allow me to be completely honest with you......McConnel plans to use the GOP being beaten in another general and the subsequent depression of many Republican voters to nominate an extreme Liberal justice.I know people, aides who work for McConnell who've told me that's what the Senator was discussing yesterday when Reince Privus was in his office.

And we Democrats, under Hillary had planned to crush American conservatism.....now with a Liberal Supreme court we plan to watch it fucking burn!

Burn.

Levin had Jeff Sessions on who said that Rubio has been flat out lying about Cruz's position on immigration and that the gang of 8's crap was blown out of the water in the House by David Bratt's primary rout of Eric Cantor. Cruz in fact was lobbying House members against what the Senate passed until the Richmond area results proved to be decisive.

Reince Priebus really needs to be tossed out for how badly these debates have turned into freak shows under his guidance. I'm not sure why he hasn't suffered the same fate as Michael Steele but keeping him in place sure gives ammo to the race hustlers at a time that the party can ill afford that.

http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/02/15/after-citing-53m-in-personal-debt-kanye-west-begs-fans-to-subscribe-to-tidal

We can all feel his pain, right?

Prior to pleading with his followers to subscribe to Tidal, West revealed that he is currently $53 million in debt. He then went on to ask Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to invest $1 billion "into Kanye West ideas." Google co-founder Larry Page was also named in his quest for cash.

"All you dudes in San Fran play rap music in your homes but never help the real artists..." West wrote in a series of tweets. "You'd rather open up one school in Africa like you really helped the country... if you want to help... help me."

Miss Marple

Good morning!

Interesting article on Rome. I was particularly interested in the author's insistance that history isn't cyclical.

The writers of The Fourth Turning would beg to differ, as they see a pattern in generational behavior, operating cyclically and affecting subsequent generations.

It is why people my age think differently than Millenials.

I really wish someone would write a book or sponsor a series of debates contrasting the two theories, linear vs. cyclical.

Miss Marple

Marlene,

Thanks for letting us know about Jack. I will keep him in my prayers for a rapid recovery.

Stopped to vote on the way in this morning... I was #3 in line to vote. Not a big surprise as the State SC primary is the only line on the ballot in my area. Milwaukee has a Mayor primary as well, but the expectation is only a 10% turnout anyway.

Aren't you just a tiny, weeny bit ashamed that you belong to a political party with the exact same mindset as the people who brought down the twin towers? You can't win on a level playing field so you have to engage in asymmetrical warfare to achieve your preposterous goals.

Your idea of "winning" is folding your arms, sitting on your booty and crying your eyes out. This is not the way men are wired to behave. We're meant to go out into the world and hunt and gather and bring home the meat.....not blubber and sulk, with snot running down our noses.

How can a Republican male make love to his wife knowing that he belongs to a mindset that can't hunt for meat? I would contend that the number of faked orgasims among couples claiming to be registered Republicans is through the fucking roof.

Honestly ladies, you should come over to Barrack Obama's party if you want some, mmmmm, satisfaction.Come on over, baby girl.

Mostly useless. If you're truly looking for a delineation of the two sides, it's the bread-and-circuses on one side, and the dwindling everyone else on the other. Bernie embodies the first perfectly, and Trump represents those on the other who--mindful of the trend--are beginning to despair.

As lame as our side is, it's the better side. And claiming it doesn't have a core is both wrong and a capitulation to the Marxists.

Schumer's statement shows the Dems have already formulated their battle plan. The argument will be that Obama's nominee deserves a vote, even if it is a no vote. I think McConnell realizes that allowing hearings and a vote will do more damage to the GOP than simply refusing to hold hearings. My concern is that McCain, Graham and Collins start blabbing about having a vote. Graham has already mentioned Orrin Hatch as a possible compromise candidate. As far as I know, McCain hasn't wavered on his initial statement that the next Prez should be the one to fill the vacancy. I don't know whether Susan Collins has said anything.

This one would go anywhere else; the Libertarians

I believe that I am more Libertarian after becoming involved with Firearm Rights Issues. As I see it, the GOPe has sold us a bill of goods without delivery on promises. I just don't see a good Libertarian Candidate for President (YET), so I stick with those who would best preserve Firearm Rights and that surely isn't (D)'s (no matter what the candidate's NRA rating, they still fight against Open Carry).

As for Trump, he made a very bad calculated or impulsive move by implying that 9/11 was Bush 43's fault. I believe that this has hurt him far more than is known at this time, but should be proven out at the Primary Ballot Box. Open mouth, insert foot all the way to his ass.

FWIW - I am so tired of Trump claiming this or that is "Not Fair" and playing KING BABY Trump. Mr Cruz would be wise to take advantage of this CLEAR OPENING to show just how unqualified Trump is for the Presidency (even though he has been very successful in life). Mr Trump lacks the necessary discipline.

A little light reading from The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck, M.D.:

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult -- once we truly understand and accept it -- then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

Most do not fully see this truth that life is difficult. Instead they moan more or less incessantly, noisily or subtly, about the enormity of their problems, their burdens, and their difficulties as if life were generally easy, as if it should be easy.

Discipline is the basic set of tools we require to solve life's problems. Without discipline we can solve nothing. With only some discipline we can solve only some problems. With total discipline we can solve all problems.

...

henry

Yeah Man Tran, the net is they figured out how cancer was imitating the immune system's Identification Friend or Foe mechanism... then learned the off switch for IFF in general. Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--As lame as our side is, it's the better side. And claiming it doesn't have a core is both wrong and a capitulation to the Marxists.--

I tend to agree. He was half right but what he missed is there is a core that recognizes the problem. The difficulty is half of the GOP does not recognize that core [limited, as in quite small, government] and the other half that does has been remarkably inept at convincing enough people that the true path to prosperity and liberty is the old one and the big government, nanny state, centrally planned path we're on leads to destruction.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I hope that cancer approach bears fruit but Lucy could take cancer researchers' correspondence course on how to show the football.
The problem with other attempts to enlist the immune system has been cancer cells are not in fact foreign invaders with a genetic difference from our normal cells that is easily recognized by our immune system.

And there are different cells that are involved. The adult stem cells that go haywire produce daughter cells that are also defective and do not die but neither do they reproduce. Those cells make up most of the tumor but it is largely pointless killing them so long as the defective originating stem cells, which are extraordinarily hard to kill, partly because their defects are so subtle, continue to pump out daughter cancer cells.

That's what remission is; we wipe out the vast majority of daughter cancer cells that made up the tumors and we can even suppress the remaining defective stem cells from producing new ones for a time, but unless we completely eliminate them it is only a matter of time before more, and more resistant, daughter cells overwhelm the body.

I hope they have identified whatever characteristics separate a normal stem cell from a cancerous one but if history is any guide there is probably a vast array of subtle differences especially for different types of cancer.

I agree with narciso. It's a project and he's not about to walk away and allow himself to look like a loser.

Well, as I have repeatedly said, if he had been accepted as a candidate and treated with respect from the get-go, he probably would have been a flash in the pan.

Too many people acted like his entrance into the campaign was blasphemy, and there were too many attacks on his supporters.

Now they have the bit in their teeth, and if he loses we will have a bunch of disappointed people who will just stay home, unless they get REAL mad and vote for Bernie Sanders.

Trump's candidacy has demonstrated to me that the vast majority of the GOP in DC want no one involved who will upset their applecart. Hence the attacks on Palin, foreshadowing the attacks on Trump.

Trump is still leading in the SOuth carolina polls. I don't think his debate comments bothered 90% of his supporters. I am not one of those, but I also know a lot of people don't care about George Bush's reputation.
