Inspired and distressed by this story about C.T.E. and The Snake, I propose my plan for undermining, right-sizing and eventually eliminating the NFL. It starts with this - have the Ivy League drop their football teams.
Why? Across out great nation we have public high schools and state universities funding football programs. New York state and the New England states could ban high school football next week and it would have an endurable cultural impact, with one caveat: Concerned parents remains as one more way for a skilled athlete but middling student to launch a career at the Ivies and other prestigious schools.
So - take away the Ivy ticket and some otherwise-concerned parents will breathe a sigh of relief and have their young stud focus on lacrosse, which is just a cultural appropriation intended to shield suburban white boys from the black athletes anyway (Don't get me started...).
Now, many schools insist that the money they collect from their football program pays for the entire athletic department and prompts all sorts of alumni bonding and donating. Fine, and I am sure for many schools it is true. But if Harvard or Yale even begin to squeak about a money problem they will be laughed out of town. And with five Ivies in the list of Top Ten university endowments, it is time for them to lead the way away from this brain-damaging morass.
So, the Ivies drop football, various states start dropping it from their high school and state college programs, and we see where we go. Obviously, Texas, Pennsylvania and Alabama will be laggards in this process, but that is what makes our Federal system so great.
So that is my Plan du Jour. Now for a second cup of coffee!
Well, we have hit a new low in political news:

Jebster should do OK in NH, BOE. Jebster is NH's kind of Republican, and, from the number of Jebster ads I have seen, he has lots of money to spend. He is a bigger threat to Kasich than to Cruz, Rubio or Trump. If Kasich doesn't pull off a win or strong place in NH, he'll fade quickly. I suspect voters who might be attracted to Jebster are also potential Kasich voters.

lyle:
with a paranthetical note that the overall slant of this magazine is decidedly not conservative
Oh, would you look what time it is! It's time for another round of "stories I have told before". Only this time, lazy me feels like just copying and pasting it.
Away we go!
*******************
Since Tom brought up Texas Monthly, let me just say that I have a fun story...(fun for me anyway)
I was chaplain at the YMCA of the Rockies at Snow Mountain Ranch (near Winter Park, CO) like 15 years ago.
One of my "official" job responsibilities during the week was to just "hang out" and interact with staff and guests. Fun stuff.
So, most evenings after dinner I would hang out in the lobby, chat with the front desk workers, make conversation with guests as they came by, helped out when I could or whatever else was going on.
So, one night this guy comes in, he and 3 kids, ages 2, 5 and 10. He says that he and another family each had a Suburban going on one of the four wheel drive roads up behind the resort -- and they got one of the vehicles stuck. He came back down with the kids, but the other couple and his wife were up with the other vehicle.
He needed to be pulled out.
We had maintenance folks who could do the job. But, he also needed someone to look after the kids while he led the maintenance folks up to the spot of the stuck Suburban.
That's a job for ME!!!
So, off they went and off I went with the kids to the cabin. We played games, I fed them some dinner. After a while, I put the 2 year old to bed. Then the 5 year old. Then I hung out with the 10 year old for a while. We started chatting...the usual stuff, where are you from, what grade are you in, what does your dad do for a living...
"He writes and teaches"
"Writes what, teaches where?"
"He writes for some magazine, he teaches at the University of Texas."
"Really, my brother goes to Texas. What does he teach?"
"I don't know, politics or government or something"
"Ah, political science, I suppose. Um, let me fathom a guess, because this is really weird, my brother said one of his professors might be coming here this summer -- he writes for Texas Monthly and your last name is Burka."
"Yes"
"Is your dad's name Paul Burka?"
"Yes."
It's a small world...
...but I wouldn't want to paint it.

Porch - as more evidence comes out its clear its Carson's team is responsible for this - you can't expect Cruz's campaign to sit on this info.
Texas Liberty Gal - I'm agnostic - my point is just that Trump isn't sitting on it either. Cruz took advantage of the CNN report; it's blowing back on him; Trump is taking advantage of the blowback.

TLG,
The secret hold has to be illegal. Just because it's never been seen is no reason to believe it doesn't exist.
Look, Cruz has admitted he has a strategy and the means to pursue it from the very beginning. Anybody who paid attention to his win in Texas knows what he is capable of. The polls consistently and conclusively proved that his strategy and execution just weren't effective in Iowa so the results had to have been the result of dirty tricks.
You know what they say - you can fool some of the people all of the time...

I think Cruz is a strong campaigner, Rick. I think he won fair and square in Iowa (or at least as fair and square as can be expected in the modern primary system, anyway). He's been disciplined and impressive throughout.
But, Texas is a state with a runoff system. Dewhurst beat Cruz in the primary by 9 points (Cruz beat Trump by 3.4). It just wasn't enough to avoid a runoff, which Cruz then won easily (thanks in large part to the Huntress, who is now evil because she supports Trump).
Cruz won't get any do-overs running for the WH. Nor is he in a race where winning the primary is the same thing as winning the general, as in TX. No matter how wounded the Dems may be, they're still a gazillion times more formidable than whatever clown the Dems put up against Cruz in 2012. (I can't even remember his name.)

My daughter's company gave all employees some variety of a Fitbit type device. It sends information to her phone (basically how many steps, etc.). If they reach a goal, they get their names entered in a drawing for prizes.

Had a Miss Marple type adventure just now.
Went shopping earlier and took Chester so I had the passenger window down about 5 or 6 inches so he can catch bugs in his teeth.
Got home, mucked about for an hour or so and had to go out again.
Chester dutifully jumped up on the floor of the pickup and I plopped in my seat, uneventfully.
However as Chester took up position in the co pilot's seat things got a bit more dicey as a dark form in the backseat shot into the air like a rocketing pheasant upon Chester's ascension to his throne.
Took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on and Chester seemed even more perplexed. Once the thing started spitting feline curses at us left and right as it bounced around in the back like a demon on a hot plate, looking for the exit, things became a bit clearer to all concerned.
I bailed with a stifled "what the hell?" before the thing could light, claws extended, on the back of my neck. I left my door open, hoping it could make a getaway as it obviously was not interested in testing Chester's open window, no matter how confused its guardian might seem.
After a few more muttered oaths [by the cat, not me] and some tentative thrusts and feints and general chaos in ye olde cockpit the two antagonists began to come to terms with the situation and things began hotting up until the cat resolved to risk it all...and not for love.
With a loud snarl it hopped for just an instant onto my seat's headrest, deftly lept to my rear view mirror like a diminutive, fairly exasperated mountain goat and made a getaway over the hood.
Chester was still so confused he didn't even hop out and give chase or even muster up a bark; just looked at me with that same "what the hell" look I was giving him.
There might have been a bit of "thanks for leaving me hangin' bub" also, but I think he's over it by now.

A must read:FTAThe news media has become just another outlet in the culture war of the left. Its business model can't be fixed because it isn't in business to make money, but to indoctrinate. It doesn't care about the financial bottom line, but about the political bottom line. Its future is boutique journalism funded by liberal billionaires looking to influence policy by subsidizing failed media outlets that would otherwise go on the block for a buck just like Newsweek.

Cruz: I think they’re hyster… I think they’re very funny. I think Donald… I wake up every day and laugh at the latest thing Donald has tweeted, because he’s losing it. Look, we need a commander in chief, not a twitterer in chief. We need someone with judgment and temperament to keep this country safe. I don’t know anyone who would be comfortable with someone who behaves this way having his finger on the button. I mean, we’re liable to wake up one morning and Donald, if he were President, would have nuked Denmark. That’s not the temperament of a leader to keep this country safe.

I have been reading about this horrific murder of the 13-year-old in Va. How in the world can two young people who have so much promise end up committing such an evil act?
All I can surmise is that brains, physical ability, and unlimited possibilities for success cannot replace a spiritual foundation and a moral compass. If those two essential elements are lacking, there seems to be no equivalent substitute.
So very sad for the little girl's family who nursed her through a lifetime of medical issues only to lose her in this brutal fashion.

29 TOP SECRET (or higher emails) on the Clinton.com server. Why is she not under indictment and held without bail in an Orange jumpsuit?

I know this wont play to those of us who are into doom, but look what the latest Ras polling is finding:
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 59% of Likely U.S. Voters say it’s likely that the next president after Barack Obama will come from the GOP. Just 36% say that’s unlikely. These findings include 25% who think a Republican president is Very Likely and only nine percent (9%) who consider it Not At All Likely.

Thanks, common man.
The Hillary loss in IA (that's what it was regardless of the official vote total) is the first thing that's making me hopeful this year.

I don't care what Ras says, OL is not coming in from that ledge anytime soon.

Hey, things are looking up. My daughter brought me a bottle of wine on her way home from work!
Also, I unsubscribed National Review and Glenn Beck from my email. Beck kept sending me stuff even though I had cancelled, and I imagine I will have to do so again. That should rid me of his advertisers selling all sorts of survival junk.
National Review ticked me off for thanking me for supporting their obnoxious "Against Trump" issue and hitting me up for money so they can continue their mission (which I think is to keep everyone well-paid and appearing on talk shows).
So I sent Jack Fowler a "you are not the boss of me" note only, in more elevated language (and I remembered to proofread), told him I was done with them and was unsubscribing.

MM
Your daughter is trying to coax you off OL's ledge. Wine would work for me.

Buckeye,
'Twould for me too -- it would help if it were a Jeroboam or larger.

IRS computers crashing... can't accept tax returns.
End it, don't mend it.

Just so I understand; Trump is great because he takes on and demolishes the MFM...except when CNN is on his side, in which case it's great that he sidles up to them and pats their fanny for thumping Cruz or whoever is next.
Got it.
