first?

The Hill must just have her panties in a twist right now. The FBI breathing down her neck. A dead heat with Bernie. It has become a complete clown show. No one ever more deserved this than she.

Captain Hate

Elizabeth Warren needs to become Bobby Kennedy (just don't get shot, please).

If she was murdered by a modern Sirhan Sirhan the left would be so conflicted it would be like a snake eating its tail.

CH, a modern Sirhan Sirhan would get a post mortem Gadsden tatoo to keep the LIVs in their appointed protest zones.

In the other race, James is leading... but Chicago voting rules are in effect.

As enjoyable as I find the scent of smouldering broom straw, the scope of the 2016 Democrat Disaster is not going to be fully apparent until the South Carolina primary results are in.

I have deep sympathy for the younger Millenials in Iowa who feel robbed by Clinton and I strongly urge them to sit out the general election in November in protest of her behavior.

Dave (in MA)

The previous thread mentioned Trump getting the Brown endorsement. Is he trying to make himself relevant again? Wasn't he the first to make the Tea Party -> GOPe jump?

 _peter

I am shocked that Clinton would have stolen the Iowa caucus. Shocked.

someone this morning talked about the Trump balloon slowly deflating. Hillary's will deflate and fly all over the place with a loud flatulent noise like a gas bomb from Hell.
She looks like Hell right now, too. She's easily put on 30 pounds in the last six months.

Trump's latest tweet tries to make the case that Cruz's speech last night - which wasn't good - was his "Howard Dean moment".

Errrr, what?

anonamom

I'm wondering if Cruz' speech last night was his call to the evangelicals that he wants/needs them, and he's not going to hide it.

Haven't heard a word from NPR about the first Hispanic ever winning the Iowa primary last night. They are falling down on the job.

Miss Marple

That's funny, because Hannity was saying HILLARY'S speech was a Howard Dean moment!

Had Hannity on in the car. There are now some rumblings about Bernie asking for a recount.

As far as 1968 (the year my son was born so I remember it well) I would say that Bernie is the RFK person. Hillary (or a candidate to be named later) will fill the role of Humphrey.

The youth vote has coalesced around Bernie like he's the Pied Piper. If those kids, who are way invested in him emotionally, feel like they are robbed of his candidacy then maybe, maybe, we will get a repeat of the 1968 conention.

Imagine that 1968 convention in Chicago only with Twitter, Instagram, Periscope and Facebook! We can only hope!

Porchlight

Oops, more TPM - Iowa Dem Party sez no recount:

NK

Too funny. The Dems are absolutely shameless. No way Uncle Bernie is the nominee. The Dems will run a dead Hilligula (weekend at Bernie's style) or Slo Joe before Bernie, Too funny.

Porchlight

At the same time, NK, I like the idea of Bernie making himself as much of a PITA as possible for as long as possible. It degrades what's left of Hill's support going into the general.

matt

Occupy Santa Clara February 7, 2016!!!! Yeah!

That would be worth buying tickets for. Watching the Occupoopers monkey wrench the Super Bowl.

I think the Marxist bastards would run Bernie if it came down to it. This isn't your mom's Democratic Party anymore.

Listening to NPR yesterday evening Debbie Wasserman Schnauzer was on telling the audience how much more successful the rigged Dem debates were than in previous elections. She really is the definition of a modern leftist. "Wheat production is up 50% Comrades!"

NPR has basically become National LBGT Radio as well. Every story reaches for the gay or trans story line if at all possible. The males all sound like Pajama Boy looks. It really is pathetic.

They have lost all objectivity and reason. Need. Sirius. Now. Even though that isn't too much better sometimes there is the odd CBC or even BBC story that sheds some light on issues well beyond the curiosity of the American media. And there's always Raymond Arroyo on Catholic Channel.

Marlene

CNN is covering the candidate events in NH wall to wall. Christie called Rubio "the boy in the bubble." Ha. I think Christie,Kasich and Jeb will go on the attack against Rubio this week. Isn't it interesting that the Republican governors were supposed to be the superstars this election? That hasn't worked,in fact after NH,there might not be a governor left in the race.

Yep, the other 'stabs (can that be short for establishment?) are gunning for Rubio in one last desperate hope for traction.

jimmyk

No way Uncle Bernie is the nominee.

I'm not so sure. If Hill stays in despite being damaged (say by a turned-down request for indictment), and begins to face-plant in primaries to Bernie, what are the Dems going to do? Might be too late for SloJoe or Red Squaw to jump in and save the day. There must have been people saying in '72 "No way McGovern is the nominee," but there it was.

Porchlight

pagar a bacon, country ham and sausage supporter

Marlene, I believe that Clinton dodging the bill story at 02:39 on the last thread needs to be on this thread. Please.

NK

For several months DEM-e have been giving Bernie the back of their hand. Treating him like the crazy uncle usually locked up in his attic room, but who has stumbled into a posh family party. If Hilligula drops out (indictment or 'health' reasons) I can easily see the Dems forcing Bernie to drop so the party can start with a 'clean slate'. This whole Dem thing is rigged.

clarice

Somedays it's hard to decide who's funnier, Tom Maguire or James taranto--Here's from Taranto's BOTW today:Peggy Noonan tweeted: “I’m sorry but a 50-50 race on Democratic side is not, if she wins, a Hillary win. This is a draw. The fight continues. No HRC validation.” Which prompted this response from Democratic strategist Donna Brazile: “Let’s not set new rules in the middle of the game. A win is a win. They will fight this out next week and beyond.”
Donna Brazile was not saying “a win is a win” in Florida in 2000, when George W. Bush really did have more votes than her man.
The Washington Post’s Karen Tumulty notes that Mrs. Clinton was very well organized indeed:
"[Mrs.] Clinton was determined not to repeat the mistakes of 2008, when her seeming inevitability melted in Iowa like a snowman in April.
This time, she accepted the state and its quirky caucus system on their own terms, building a formidable army of operatives and volunteers. Staffers at the Brooklyn headquarters were instructed to cater to the needs of state-level organizers.
The meticulous work proved crucial as [Mrs.] Clinton’s wide lead began to evaporate over the summer."
Her carefully assembled machine and a few lucky coin tosses were enough to give her only a hair’s-breadth victory over Sanders. And next week she is likely to lose New Hampshire, allowing him to declare himself the “comeback kid.”

lyle

http://www.steynonline.com/7440/second-degree-bern

I've always had a man-crush on Mark Steyn.

For a candidate running on the platform that he's a winner and the other guys are losers, the aura of invincibility depended on the perception of invincibility. So it's not helpful to let five thousand hayseeds shuck Trump Tower like a corncob. Doing without consultants, doing without ads, doing without Fox News, doing without National Review, doing without debates ...great, great, love it. But doing without voters is a trickier proposition.

Rubio did the usual caucus-night thing. He came third so he hailed himself as the most stunning victor since Wellington at Waterloo and then segued into the stump-speech bollocks about being the son of a bartender and promising a new American century. Ted Cruz followed with a victory speech that lasted most of the new American century. It was the kind of ruthless Canadian triumphalism older Americans haven't seen since the War of 1812, which, like Cruz's speech, went on into the following year. If he wins again next Tuesday, let's hope he cuts to the chase and burns down the White House.

LOL!

NK

CANADIAN MENACE!! OMG... TK was right!

lyle

A bit more:

All of that was fully in evidence at last night's rally. The only personable Clinton stood behind Hillary looking like an emaciated wraith of the Slick Willie of yore. Decades of interns appear to have literally sucked all the life out of him, leaving only (one presumes from friend Epstein's Lolita Express flight records) his distinguishing characteristics with any flicker of vitality. Judging from her brief but disastrous intervention in New Hampshire the other week, young Chelsea appears to have inherited her mother's warmth and personal touch.
Buckeye

I'll bet Hillary is nearing 2 fifths (how is that for "old school"?) of Grey Goose a day.

lyle

You've GOT to RTWT! There's too many of hilarious one-liners to keep pasting here.

Buckeye

"she accepted the state and its quirky caucus system on their own terms, building a formidable army of operatives and volunteers. Staffers at the Brooklyn headquarters were instructed to cater to the needs of state-level organizers."

And when that wasn't enough, bus some loyalists in from the Twin Cities.

clarice

Steyn also said it looks like interns sucked the life out of Bill..Guys you have to read lyle's link!

Miss Marple

Steyn is spot on and hilarious! Ha!

jimmyk

There's also this: "That left Hillary barking across the midnight hour like a malign Speak-Your-Weight Machine with a jammed quarter."

NK, if Hill's indicted they might get a replacement, but since no on thinks that's very likely, the Sanders scenario is the one I said, which is that she stays in but flops. I do think McGovern is the right parallel, even if (or rather, especially because) the geniuses at Salon disagree.

lyle

Oh, and for third or fourth time today, NPR says bigwig generals say women are going to have to register for the draft now that all combat positions are open to them.
Mothers of sons rejoice! My chance of losing a child to combat has just been halved.

Buckeye

"She’s just a terrifically bad candidate who will also lose in New Hampshire. The establishment Democrats have much better control over their party than the GOP’s establishment does, but her campaign is deteriorating even as Bernie Sanders’ is improving."

To control Hillary, you would have to deal with her.

Can't imagine anyone getting excited about that.

Allen West. Great American. I am humbled by his family's service to America.

Marlene

pagar@4:03...okay,this is the short version.
This morning hubby took a flight to Maine and his seat mate was an older gentleman from the Scranton,PA area. They must have talked politics, because when hubby called while waiting for his BGR connection,he said his seat mate had told him a Clinton story. In 1993,when Hillary's father died, the funeral was in Mr. Rodham's hometown of Scranton.
The after funeral dinner was held at a local restaurant. The bill was $5,000. The Clintons refused to pay and after much back and forth, the DNC paid the bill. Hubby's seat mate must know the restaurant owner, because he knew the details the story.
I believe the story,CH calls them grifters and this story shouldn't be a surprise.

Captain Hate

Not exactly surprising that Allen West comes from a more stable family situation than 404. Or Slick.

Over at National Review Online, Jim Geraghty finds the result to be a complete disaster for the Once-and-Future-Inevitable Next President of the United States: “Don’t let any Hillary fan tell you this wasn’t a collapse. She was ahead by 12 in mid-January. She came out last night for a not-quite-victory, not-quite concession speech decked out in blood red and glaring angrily and hard in her tone.”

According to this, Cruz did almost as well in Iowa with women as with men, 27-24-21 vs. 29-25-25 (that's Cruz-Trump-Rubio). Rubio had the largest gender gap of the three. I wouldn't have predicted that.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that Lynch will likely kick the proverbial can down the road at least until the conclusion of the Democratic primary — if not beyond — but Giuliani, noting on the "Hannity" show in November that he used to prosecute alongside Lynch in New York, stated that "if the FBI recommends prosecution ... Lynch will indict."

OK, it said just now there were 1162 votes and 1143 voters.
I personally have voted at least 25 times so if those numbers are accurate and anyone else is voting nearly as often as me, many [almost all] of our votes are not being counted.

Stephanie

How white are Iowa and New Hampshire?

I was out and about today and got into a conversation with several minority voters in two different places, and they are all in for Trump.

Which got me wondering if the under performance of Trump would or would not be repeated in the South where we are much more diverse. In Iowa and NH, republican voters it could be said 'came home' and voted to type. The same cannot be said of minority voters supporting Trump who are not 'home' in the rep party in any sense of the word.

Just a thought.

Porchlight

I've voted at least that many times, Ig. But I've watched the counter go up as I've done it.

Porchlight

And both counters go up simultaneously - the total votes and the total voters.

Jeff Dobbs

Same as Porch here - that's why I was talking about the times the counter wasn't moving. It seemed like if I voted more than ~10 times in a couple of minutes, the counter would freeze on me. But if I waited ~10 minutes, I could start back up again.

Those are random periods of time...I didn't really pay attention to how long it took.

Porchlight

The total vote count is always 19 ahead of the voters count, so my guess is that a few people were able to vote multiple times without deleting cookies before they figured out they had to lock that down.

I've seen it go up when I voted and not go up when I voted.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

1) A compulsive liar with a persecution complex, a mania for secrecy, and a bald disdain for rules as they apply to lesser people.

2) A bigoted braggart with a laughable grasp of public policy and leering manners of the kind you would expect from a barroom drunk.

3) A glib moralizer who is personally detested by every single senator in his own party, never mind the other one.

4) A Sixties radical preaching warmed-over socialism to people too young to know what it was or too stupid to understand what it does.

Why even bother with 1) and 4), pard? Trying to sound even-handed? You could have just cut to chase with 2) and 3) and called it good with your editor, right?
