Jonah Goldberg tumbles to the secret of Bernie's youth appeal:
Bernie Sanders is the most typecast presidential candidate of my lifetime. What I mean is that I can’t remember another presidential candidate who I could more easily imagine in a different setting. For instance, there’s a Starbucks near me in D.C. where old Reds take time off from yelling at clouds to get together and tsk-tsk the newspapers and talk about how much they hate Fox News. I wrote a big chunk of Liberal Fascism there (if they only knew!). I’d eavesdrop as they’d rail about Israel, billionaires, and their sciatica. Bernie Sanders could join them tomorrow in dirty Bermuda shorts, black socks, and tennis shoes, and seem perfectly at home there as they kept bringing up the overthrow of Allende as if it had happened last week.
The overthrow of Allende? OMG - Bernie Sanders is Peter Pan, who never grew up. Well, internally - that tired husk disguises an eternally youthful heart. Anyone who saw Bernie denouncing Henry Kissinger during the debate Thursday night felt like Bernie was right back on some late 60's campus denouncing the war. Strike up "Ohio" by CSN&Y and join right in, Mr. Sanders.
OK, so what was Bernie doing during the Nixon/Kent State days?
After finishing college in 1964, Sanders lived on a kibbutz in Israel before settling in Vermont. He worked a number of jobs, including filmmaker and freelance writer, while his interest in politics grew.
In the 1970s, Sanders made several unsuccessful bids for public office as a member of the anti-war Liberty Union Party, which he was a member of until 1979.
The anti-war party candidate? Fortunately I was sitting down when I read that.
First principles: anti war when there wasn't one.

Observations on a road trip taking me through rural South Carolina.
1. Saw lots of Cruz signs in the country. Saw two or three Hillary signs. Trump signs started appearing close to Charleston, and outnumbered Cruz on the road to Kiawah. Even saw Ben Carson. Unseen -- signs for Rubio, Jeb!, Bernie.
2. Glenn Beck's radio show is genuinely bad. I'm not a fan of the genre, but I have heard a fair amount of Rush, Mark Levin, and Hugh Hewitt over the years, and they know how to stay interesting. But I listened to Beck attempt to make fun of Meryl Streep for saying some typically politically stupid actor thing and the man can't even manage to deconstruct one sentence in 20 minutes. Ick.
3. Jeb is running ads featuring his brother on the radio, a lot.
4. Ted Cruz gets points for me for holding one of his big rallys at the Beacon -- Spartanburg's famed drive in. If you have time (and you need it, because the place is way off the interstate), it's worth the stop just for the iced tea.

But not just any kibbutz! A Marxist-Stalinist kibbutz, about which even Noam Chomsky wrote he "couldn't join because it was split between Stalinists and Trotskyists."

Bernie in dirty bermudas, black socks, and beat up tennis shoes? Ah well, you can take the Brooklyn socialist out of Brooklyn, but you can't take the socialist out of him. I had my share of Red Diaper Baby acquaintances at Berkeley in the mid and late 60's. To the extent I've retained any contact with them, they have not changed their political views. Oh they may be living in bigger houses, and driving better cars now--and they've developed a taste for the better sorts of wine.
But they still believe the same old crap. But like Bernie, and unlike Hillary, they actually believe that stuff. Scratch your typical west side liberal professional here in Los Angeles (usually a lawyer or an upper level government employee)and they'll tell you that Bernie is right on!
Aargh! Ignorance can be cured, but stupid is forever.

America needs three balloons.
I don't know if any of you could afford one of them, but it would be a real service to the country, if you could. Or if you can even do a decent photoshop of what one of the balloons might look like.
(Those who disagree with my third balloon may want to look at my post from yesterday, where I describe the man as a "Bill Clinton Democrat". I think that's a reasonable conclusion from the evidence we can find in his life, but see no way to prove it -- or disprove it.
If he were strapped to lie detector, I suspect the machine would blow up, immediately.)

Hyenas can't change their spots either;
Andy McCarthy on Huma Abedin and the tangled Clinton web of lies and corruption.
Reading it is exactly like reading through the Whitewater, Rose Law Firm, Travelgate, etc, criminal enterprises; overlapping mazes of crookedness whose sole purpose is to inoculate them from prosecution through bamboozlement.
The scale has changed but the blatancy and outright tedium and pettiness remain.
There is still no advantage to grab or corner to cut too small or tacky for them and their puppets.

Anyone else get something from the census recently about a survey they have a duty to fill out?
I would have tossed it, but apparently hubby filled it out in part hoping to prevent anyone from knocking on doors. I just get a phone call to home number to do a follow-up and that's it's being recorded and is that OK? I said sure but I may hang up on you if I am not comfortable with what you are asking.
Voice changes to "are you telling me you are refusing your civic duty to the federal government?"
I said "I don't have an f***ing civic duty to the federal government." (Since I do not cuss regularly and was alone in the house and do not observe Lent it's OK) Then I hung up.
So now I suppose I have been classified as a militia sort in the same category as those Oregonians.
Nice database being built up and this is not Big Data, which is always anonymous at the level anyone cares about. This is personal surveillance data being gathered.
Vent off. I think it's ti,e for happy hour though.

Boo Daylight Savings Time!
Just when I get cheered by the sun coming up earlier in the morning, we are thrown back to darkness in the morning.
Indiana used to not be on it. We were on New York time in the winter and chicago time in the summer. But Mitch Daniels got the legislature to pass a bill making the state go to DST.
It's the only thing I disliked about his term as governor. It was done because of the confusion it caused to transportation and shipping companies.
