Dave in MA Happy Birthday

I liked Carson's fruit salad of life expression and Trump making up the word bigly.

The Trump University scam is a bigly deal. I think the MSM was saving that for a Trump delete right after the convention.

Happy Birthday Dave. May Brady inflate your balls!

For your weekend reading pleasure, GAB email dump from the WI Club for Growth lawsuit. Has the GAB coordinating the investigation to get Burke and Kloppenburg elected. Given what is released now, it is hard to believe that there could be emails not yet released that are more embarrassing for the GAB "Non-Partisan Role Model" chorus, but there are some where release is tbd.

Maybe they meant "(an ineligible, yelling)."

Beasts of England

Oh, boy. In the last hour I saw two presidential ads on tv. That's a first for the season.

Rubio's was first. Ominous lead-in about terror and the economy and then there's a slow-mo clip of Donald's spastic impersonation of the reporter. I was laughing so hard that I didn't hear the narrator. Then a picture of Cruz and something about him being cold and calculating.

Then Trump. An illegal is let out of jail and murders a young black man. The man's father comes on and says Trump is the only one who will fix it. And make America great again.

The tone of each commercial was exactly the opposite of what I would have expected. And where's my Cruz commercial?

Truthbetold

TK

It's 10 minutes to Judge Wapner.

Miss Marple

The Cruz commercials are playing here in Indiana, Beasts. They have lots of still shots of him from flattering angles and they go after Trump as not being a serious candidate.

I have also seen that Rubio one about terrorism. I have not seen the Trump one.

Virtually nothing about Trump is presidential, true. Obama lowered the bar on public presidential behavior. If Trump is elected he will lower it further.

Behind the scenes, Dems are by far the sleaziest. Sure, sure, Melania Trump, softcore pr0n, etc. Is that really worse than Clinton or Kennedy's exploits? At least Trump is by all accounts happily married to the woman in question. GWB and Reagan treated their wives like queens. Dem Presidents treat their wives the same way they treat their voters - like chattel.

And that Whoopi bit was funny. ;)

Threadkiller

Happy Birthday, Dave!

Old Lurker

"Obama lowered the bar on public presidential behavior"

Just as the Clintons lowered the bar for how illegal something has to be to exclude one from public office for life. The days of teapot domes, dead girls or live boys are long gone.

 _peter

It came through last night as well that Trump knows almost nothing about legal procedure. Federall judges do not sign bills. Trump's knowledge of what used to be basic high school civics (now sadly non-existent) is nil. Makes one wonder how effective he will be as a President.
What am I doing? there's no going back once you're on the ledge

James D

Porch, would Trump really lower the bar further?

I'm willing to bet that he wouldn't blow off the funeral of a Supreme Court justice to go golfing. And that he'd wear a suit and tie at press conferences. And not chew gum during photo ops with foreign leaders.

Last night Rubio answered a question, "That's why we need E-verify". I wrote that down as I watched, because, among other sensible amendments Rubio squashed, Rubio voted against Sen. Vitters's effort requiring E-verify be in place at every port of entry into America before the bill took effect. The Gang of 8 was a shameful, normally POTUS disqualifying episode. I thought Rubio diminished his chances last night.

Beasts:

I hate to ask - and I'm being sincere - was that clip real, TK? The sound, the moderator at the end, et cetera?

Yes, but it cuts off right before what was the point of Rubio's "he's repeating himself" charge...

So Trump goes with "lines around the states" 7 times and Rubio's point - much more than "he's repeating himself" is that Trump has no idea when he says "Repeal and Replace" (I'm so old I remember when "Replace" was such a hated term, it was one of the major reasons Romney lost), what the Replace part actually encompasses outside of moving his hands in a circular motion (when he does try to get into any specifics, we end up with him loving the mandate and the government paying for everyone's health care)

************************

BASH: Senator Rubio, you will have time to respond if you would just let Mr. Trump respond to what you’ve just posed to him...

RUBIO: ... Yeah, he’s going to give us his plan now, right? OK...

BASH: ... If you could talk a little bit more about your plan. I know you talked about...

TRUMP: ... We’re going to have many different plans because...

BASH: ... Can you be a little specific...

TRUMP: ... competition...

RUBIO: ... He’s done it again.

(CHEERING) (APPLAUSE)

TRUMP: There is going to be competition among all of the states, and the insurance companies. They’re going to have many, many different plans.

BASH: Is there anything else you would like to add to that...

TRUMP: No, there’s nothing to add. What is to add?

BASH: Thank you. Thank you both.

No, I'm not. This was the first debate I've watched at some length, so Rubio's small stature next to Trump and his frenetic speech patterns came as an unhappy surprise. Trump didn't seem to want to prolong his answers, so Rubio could have waited his turn and calmly showcased his superior command of issues and demonstrated, despite his younger age, he possessed a mature temperament. Instead, I saw Peevish Chester v Spike.

Trump constantly interrupts. He is the biggest offender on the stage.

You might have been watching the debate but you weren't seeing the debate.

Joe America

Well the flailing performances last night by the Canadian and the Cuban anchor baby, as evidenced by all debate polls, ensured a clean sweep on Super Tuesday by Mr. Trump.

Cruz realized he now has no chance and post debate said he will back Rubio. Just another open borders phony conservative who was all talk. The good news is Rubio will not be in the Senate next year, he will be cleaning pools in the Miami area, and Cruz will lose his re-election bid in 2018, then become a small town preacher.

DebinNC

You might have been watching the debate but you weren't seeing the debate.

From a comment (I think by Jeff) on a previous thread, I don't see why a brokered convention is so bad for the Rs. Of course I don't trust them to come up with the best candidate, but if it's a choice between Rubio, Trump, or Cruz, and no one has a majority of delegates, as long as one of them gets the nod, I don't see that it's a problem. If they go with Mitt or Jeb, or some also-ran, it would be a disaster, of course. I can't see that happening if the three musketeers have between them 90% of the delegates.

Of course this topic (brokered convention) comes up every four years, and it never happens, so I wouldn't bet on it this time either.

Thomas Collins

Any con man attack ads in the March 1st primary states yet? Any ads about Trump employing illegals? Any ads about Trump repeating himself ad infinitum? Last night's debate, and follow up comments in the mediasphere by Cruz and Rubio, won't be enough. But attack ads will be very effective.

If there were any Lee Atwater types still around, we already would have seen ads of regular Joes and Marys having lost their savings in the Trump University hustle. But rest assured that we'll be seeing those ads from DemPACS if Trump is the GOP nominee.

NK

Trump knows a lot, and is extremely worldly, and a tremendous salesman. I'll be blunt again, this WWE buffoon persona he has adopted is his salesman pitch to his current marks, working class whites, latinos and that small sliver of persuadable middle aged/older black male voters. These were the votes that Romney left on the table, and lost because of it. Le Donald is talking to them, because he assumes schmucks like me will vote for him anyway.. and he's right about me, I'll vote for him and throw up in my mouth... a lot. The real problem with Trump is there is no way to know what he'll do with the power. My guess is that he will treat the power like Putin, as a means to assemble world class wealth through cronyism and gangster government.

Old Lurker

Correction, Jeff. Half his supporters would conclude "Hell, if we aren't going to even try to make American great again, then I might as well vote for the Commie who promises me free stuff."

narciso

Perhaps but I'm focusing on a wiser point, the universities in terms of their stated purpose are a failure, the networks to which the top men submit themselves

No brokered convention is in the works. It's already down to Cruz, Rubio and Trump with winner take all states coming up. One of those three will assemble a majority of the delegates on the first ballot.

Old Lurker

NK "The real problem with Trump is there is no way to know what he'll do with the power."

I say it is like being forced to play Russian Roulette and you have to choose between two guns. One has a round in every chamber, and the other has one or two empty chambers. The choice is obvious.

While I of course appreciate the prediction of a Putin like POTUS or worse, I would not rule out seeing his massive ego lead him to want to be the best president since George Washington, sort of doing to our broken government what he did to that ice rink.

I am eagerly awaiting to find out if Sue's husband watched the debate last night - to get his reaction.

As far as I know, he is the only confirmed JOMer (including family members) who has actually voted for Trump to date.

IA, NH, SC and NV are home to very few (known) JOMers. I am assuming that Anuther Bub, for example, in her new SC home - did not vote for Trump. And I don't know if anyone elsewhere has had the opportunity to early vote for Trump yet or not.

Rick Ballard

"I know no one agrees with that"

Jane,

I'm afraid I have to mark that as "Completely false".

I'm curious as to whether testimony in the Trump Fraud case in San Diego will have greater impact than the testimony in the Trump Fraud case in New York. Schneiderman hasn't set a trial date for Trump Fraud New York so the initial focus will be on Trump Fraud San Diego and the first testimony will probably carry the day. The other factor will be whether the Trumpchumps testimony will be of a nature to draw sympathy or will the obvious defect in intelligence required to believe a manifest charlatan illicit only disdain. The lead plaintiff counsel is going to have to be careful in his selection of suckers.

Including myself, I have nine family members voting on Tuesday. I'll be happy to ask them if they watched the debate, since every single one, other than me, is voting for [redacted].

Miss Marple

NK has it right. So did Richard Grennell yesterday.

Trump is laready in general election mode, so his target isn't regular GOP voters. He's aiming for the blue collar guys, the unemployed working class, the Christians who feel like no one sticks up for them. That's why he isn't using 5-dollar words (which seems to have a bunch of the press all upset, as they have gagued his language at 4-6th grade level.)

Another thing I heard from O'Reilly, who knows Trump fairly well, is that he is concentrating on one thing: winning. He isn't right now concerned with policy papers and things like that.

It's obvious he needs more help with foreign policy and the intricascies of health insurance, no doubt about it. However, what really ticks me off is that now that iti's obvious that he has support, instead of some of these so-called experts offering advice, most of them are offering advice to the RNC on how to stop him.

We cannot win this without Trump voters, simple as that. He's drawing from democrats which is why GOP numbers are higher than dems in all votes so far. One would think people would figure out how to use this candidate and graft their policies onto his campaign, but no.

Stupid, stupid.
