Me too. Fortunately, it can't last beyond November.

I never watch this nonsense, but I am not immune to red carpet frocks, which is usually more skin and less cloth. Fortunately, I can see them all, along with reading snark, by viewing Tom and Lorenzo, or gofugyourself, tomorrow on the web.

Prediction: If Donald Trump does release his tax returns, most of what Mitt Romney says might be in them will be there. It won't be just one piece of ammo for the Democrats, it will be a whole pile.

Right now, I think the odds of Trump releasing them are about 50/50 -- and the odds that he has exaggerated how much he is worth about 100 percent.

(Sorry, Tom, but I wanted to get this prediction out in a timely manner.)

rich@gmu

too clever Jeff.

Portrait of an American Family ... lullabies to sing yourself to sleep.

how can I be losing the volume war?

rich@gmu

too conservative of a prediction. My guess-he is caught up in the UBS scandal.

I'm losing the volume war. I've lost ... damn it.

but I still have some beer.

rich@gmu

narciso

there's also the last fast and furious, why are half the actions films, shot half in the dark,

Miss Marple

You guys have stronger nerves than me. I can't listen to the Oscars.

Rick Ballard

Jim Miller,

Tax returns won't verify net worth. Has he actually made free cash flow claims? Adding depreciation back in makes a difference, as long as he's not hocked up to insolvency.

If the class action fraud suits are successful, I will be very surprised if he is able to bond the appeal.

Jim Miller

Rick - I understand that. But I would guess that some smart financial guys might be able to make some decent estimates of his worth after looking at his tax returns.

Rick Ballard

Narciso,

Isn't pretty much of everything shot half in the dark? I really get a kick out of action scenes which start at 3PM and end ten minutes later at 11PM.

rich@gmu

I'm sorry narciso-I have no idea what you are talking about.

Porchlight

My prediction: the Trump Predictors™ will continue along at their current batting average.

Miss Marple

Porchlight,

I did hear Geraldo a couple of days ago saying he had a discussion with Eric Trump and he said Eric felt like Forbes grossly undervalued the worth of their real estate.

Trump had to know that his finances would be looked at. I think people are wishfully thinking there is something there.

Rick Ballard

Jim,

Jim Geraghty covered the type of lying contest which results when Trump is challenged on his net worth.

The three-judge panel essentially called the mogul a liar: “The materials that Trump claims to have provided to O’Brien were incomplete and unaudited, and did not contain accurate indications of Trump’s ownership interests in properties, his liabilities, and his revenues, present or future.”

The three appellate judges denied Trump's appeal, of course.

rich@gmu

narciso-

not many are. how about a rage metal band inspired by the theories of Hayek and Friedman?

while we are burning down our illegal studio in Fairfax ...

because we hate our housemates.

Jim Miller

rich@gmu - The estimates do exist, but they vary widely. (I haven't checked, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could find links to a few of them in his Wikipedia biography.) The tax returns would give a financial analyst a lot more data to work with.

narciso

so some people told o'brien a story, and they repeated that story some years ago, that doesn't seem basis for anything,

Porchlight

Let's see if I have this correct: Trump wouldn't hand over his returns, therefore Trump is lying about his net worth.

Is there anyone here who would like to go on record saying his/her tax returns accurately represent his/her net worth?

The wife and daughters like to look at the clothes the women are wearing, so the TV is usually tuned to the Oscars. While I go do something serious and worthwhile like taking the trash out or polishing a pair of shoes.

Rick Ballard

No, Narciso, O'Brian's three sources worked closely with Trump for years and one New Jersey Superior Court Judge and three New Jersey Appellate Judges found O'Brian and his sources more credible than Trump. Trump might have prevailed, had he been able to actually prove his assertions of net worth.

Rick Ballard

Jim,

I don't believe the net worth lie will have much impact. The high impact stuff will come after the convention should Trump prevail and will involve personal stories from people financially ruined through having dealt with Trump. It will be a Swift Boat Vets type of assault with the MFM highlighting the claims of those whose stories will appeal the most to LIVs.

The handful of videos featuring a few of those defrauded by the Trump U scam provide the framework but it will be small contractors and vendors who were stiffed rather than just the rubes.

rich@gmu

... more completely Jim.

most likely 700 million to 1.2 billion-enough for me to strip naked and swim in my money pool like Scrooge McDuck- but not enough for Old Lurker or Beasts to care.

Jim Miller

Where there are real estate taxes, the records of what the real estate is worth are generally public, so that part's fairly easy in making an estimate of someone's worth.

rich@gmu

[redacted] that's not going to be evidence ... lol.

Porchlight

I don't believe the net worth lie will have much impact.

Since there is zero evidence that it is a lie, you are correct.

Jim Miller

Rick Ballard - I agree with you aon the relative impact. I mentioned net worth, only because it seemed the most obvious.

narciso

well certainly those depositions may be embarassing like paula deen discovered, but will they be dispositive, is something else again,

Miss Marple

Jim Miller,

If I told you I paid $1300 per year in property taxes, could you gauge the value of my home? And my net worth?

No. You don't know what exemptions I have, the assessed valuation, the rate paid in my township, etc.

Furthermore, if you not deduct property taxes on your tax form, there is no way of knowing. And I am talking about income taxes, not business taxes. Business tax forms are different.

And on this I wil be quiet because I am getting into territory where I lack expertise.

Stephanie

Charitable deducts would show as would who he contributes to, but my guess is he gives a lot to the Eric Trump Foundation which is a heavy giver to Shriners Hospital and other sundry groups which do not hurt Trump.

Porchlight

Where there are real estate taxes, the records of what the real estate is worth are generally public, so that part's fairly easy in making an estimate of someone's worth.

Is worth the last time said property was sold - maybe.

And then there are the other assets.

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

imo, the Trumpster is *never* going to release *any* information about his income, his taxes, his charitable contributions (if any), or his net worth.

Watching him refuse to answer even the simplest of questions put to him about his financial affairs is the biggest 'tell' of all.

When he doubled down on the stupid with the claim that an audit prevents him releasing previous years' returns, that was the sign that he will NEVER let the public know anything about his finances.

narciso

therein was the rub,

http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/227834/

Rick Ballard

Several commenters have been impressed with Ben Sasse's first speech in the Senate and remarks he has made subsequent to the speech. He, along with Cotton and Lee are the leading recently elected conservative Senate voices who have clearly noted the opposition to the GOPe.

He penned an open letter on Facebook and it is worth your time to consider his choice and reasoning. It won't move rubes an inch but it will move actual conservatives to consider alternatives.

Miss Marple

Porchlight,

I am giving up. They are going to go after those tax forms like it's the Holy Grail.

When they are finally released they will pour over them. searching and searching for those lines which prove, prove, beyond a doubt, and geometrically, that Donald Trump isn't rich!!!

(I will probably make people mad with that statement, but I am getting irritated.)

narciso

it's more like Al Capone's Vault, so why haven't Lee, and Cotton and Sasse endorsed Cruz, or did I miss that,

Miss Marple

My reasoning on Ben Sasse's comment is that it is his opinion, I think he is grandstanding and wrong, and thank you for linking it, so I didn't have to go looking.

Threadkiller

You didn't miss anything, Narciso.

They must think he is a rube.

Porchlight

Michael, when did Romney release a full tax return for the prior year? (Hint: September 2012)

Wasn't he accused of "hiding" information until that time?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--Charitable deducts would show as would who he contributes to...--

Who he contributes to?
I must have missed that line on my schedule A.

Momto2

The handful of videos featuring a few of those defrauded by the Trump U scam provide the framework but it will be small contractors and vendors who were stiffed rather than just the rubes.

So if this is after the nomination and Trump is the nominee running against Clinton - why not counter with videos of the families whose loved ones died in Benghazi? Or any one of the dozens of other people she has damaged?

I could come up with some great ads against HC and I'm not an expert - think of what someone with real expertise could craft!

boris

"It won't move rubes an inch but it will move actual conservatives to consider alternatives"

Saying "Putin is a great leader" does not make Trump as bad as Hillary.

But then "actual conservative" is not something I lay claim to, so you might have that going for you.

narciso

it is said of my paisans, among two of us, there are three opinions, sort of explaining our fractious nature, well the same seems to be among the Senate Conservative Cauci, why don't they rally behind Cruz, I'm just a humble caveman lawyer but I notice such things,

I believe this;

Given what we know about him today, here’s where I’m at: If Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, my expectation is that I will look for some third candidate – a conservative option, a Constitutionalist....
..I believe a sizable share of Christians – who regard threats against religious liberty as arguably the greatest crisis of our time – are unwilling to support any candidate who does not make a full-throated defense of the First Amendment a first commitment of their candidacy.

is the only alternative that will allow the Red Witch into the WH. Follow Sasse and find out just exactly what a threat to religious liberty looks like as Moloch/Baal is handed the keys to the country.

I am sure there are people smarter than me about this, but I know a millionaire pizza restauranteur who lives in a small house. I know someone who lives in a large house that is mortgaged to the hilt.

Trump's tax returns (both personal and business) are both large and complex. You aren't going to get them released on one page for an "aha" moment. Donations to charities are listed as a total, not individualized per donee. You would have to get his accountant's files, which good luck with that.

Jim Miller

clarice - Actually,Trump has admitted to (boasted of?) ties to the Mafia. He claims they were the only contractors available in some areas when he was trying to build things, and that they did good work for him.

(I don't know enough about the real estate business in that area to judge whether he had to deal with them.)

BTW, some of you may like my half-joking suggestion that Trump is really French, in spirit.

He looks French, don't you think?

rich@gmu
