The NY Times describes the four hour political re-education effort also known as The Academy Awards and even they seem to toy with the notion that it was a bit of a grim slog through a litany of lefty pieties.
Their coverage does not mention Sarah Silverman, who introduced the song from the James Bond film "Spectre" but announced she had not seen the film because James Bond is and always has been a sexist pig. Thanks for sharing.
I did tune in to watch the Blue-on-Blue (really, Black-on-Blue) action, which was endless. Did you know that there were no black nominees for the acting awards? Also no Asians or Hispanics, but that was not mentioned for two hours. Although to be fair, given their pop-culture footprint in sports and music, one might be more surprised by the black dearth in movies than the Asian absence.
The Times did not go anywhere near the ironies and absurdities here:
As the evening wore on, the causes began to stack up. Vice President Joseph R. Biden added yet another when he showed to introduce Lady Gaga’s performance of “Til It Happens to You,” from “The Hunting Ground,” a documentary about campus sexual assault. “I really mean this, take the pledge,” Mr. Biden urged, as he begged attention for that issue, as Mr. McCarthy, of “Spotlight,” and Mr. McKay, of “The Big Short,” had urged attention for theirs.
The Times probably should have mentioned that the pledge in question is opposed to sexual violence and is at the "Its On Us" website. Perhaps the editors chose wisely in not clarifying that point since if Roman Polanski had walked onstage he would have received a standing ovation. As would Bill Clinton or assault-enabler and future Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Move On, indeed.
I've seen two movies in the last year or so. Grand Budapest Hotel and Ex Machina. I enjoyed them. That's all I can say about film today. Am I missing any good recent ones?

Since the thread keeps moving, I am re-posting again.
These sorts of stories only tell me that the "High Cabal", as Winston Churchill referred to those who move the pieces on the chess board behind the scenes, is extremely worried that the voters may just temporarily prevent them from manipulating the election this year.
Republican or Democrat, they are all the same. This has never been more apparent than during the reign of Barack Obama. There are only a few brave elected people out there who have gone against this combined Dem/Rep establishment. One is Jeff Sessions and I pray that he has good security.
Look for more {{{alarming}}} headlines to appear in the weeks to come as the Cabal tries to persuade the voters into
slitting their own throats. I'm with those who "will crawl over cutglass" to vote for the guy who is NOT Hillary. In this case, until proven otherwise, that person is Trump. All the rest of the stories you see about him and the election are just chaff.

Rank the following in order of probability.
A: Indictment and/or "health issues" keep Cankles off the November ballot.
B: The Trump campaign implodes due to scandal (ie.Trump University) or flame-out and he fails to make the ballot. This includes no third-party run.
C: Both of the above.
D: Neither of the above.
I'll say D, B, C, A with D by far most likely and A by far least likely.

Also makes no sense that anyone in the world would want an unqualified provocateur like Donald Trump to be president. Maybe people will suddenly wake up, that wouldn't be any odder than anything else that's happening. I can't imagine that people will stop expressing how appalled they are at how the GOP contest is going - why should they? It's expressed here that, at the end of the day, regardless if he's our second, third or last choice, we obviously must vote for L'Orange to keep Hillary out. It's not obvious to me, I don't understand how I'd pull a lever for someone I find reprehensible. Pretty sure I couldn't do it.

I'm trying to figure out whose campaign is paying TBT. At first I thought it was Cruz's, but then when Rubio started doing his imitation of the obnoxious amirite kid, I decided it had to be Rubio's campaign, because only Rubio's campaign would pay someone to be that annoying and think it was working.
But now I've decided that TBT has got to be working for Trump. It's like that 3-dimensional chess that the Obamabots assure us that he's playing every time he eff's up so bad that even WaPo and the NYT experience moments of doubt that the only light he brings is the one shining through his empty head. See, TBT makes himself so annoying that we all get together and vow to vote for Trump just to spite TBT. That way Trump gets our votes, TBT goes away after collecting his paltry salary for accomplishing his mission, we're finally rid of the annoying twit, and it's winning all the way around.
All together now: Trump! Trump! Trump!

Although a woman running mate should pretty much be a lock, I think it would make sense under the circumstances for Cruz and Rubio to resolve that whoever pulls in more delegates on Tuesday should head up a Rubio/Cruz or Cruz/Rubio ticket. I suppose that delegates chosen so far are still bound on the first ballot, but there should be enough outstanding to run that united ticket vs Trump for the remainder of the contests. I know ego usually gets in the way of that kind of deal but, again, under the circumstances...

Announcement a couple of hours ago from the Trump campaign:
"Donald J. Trump for President Inc. announced Sarah Huckabee Sanders joined the campaign as a Senior Advisor.
Mr. Trump stated, 'I have great respect for Governor Mike Huckabee and we have a mutual admiration for our wonderful families. It is great to have his daughter, Sarah, join the campaign.'
Sarah added, 'I volunteered to join Mr. Trump’s campaign because he is a champion of working families; not Washington-Wall Street elites. Like the other Republican candidates, Mr. Trump is pro-life, pro-marriage, and will appoint conservatives to the courts. What makes Mr. Trump my choice for president is he will break the grip of the donor class on our government and make it accountable to working families again. I’m honored to help Mr. Trump Make America Great Again.'
Sarah Huckabee Sanders has advised presidential campaigns and Fortune 500 companies and has been named 40 under 40 by Time Magazine. She lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with her husband Bryan and their three young children."

hrt, I know this is something you don't want to hear, but I place the blame for Trump on Jeb Bush and the GOPe and the big money donors who in their infinite stupidity decided that an establishment, dynastic candidate would be welcomed with open arms by a base that had made no secret of how [redacted] sick unto death they are of the politics of business as usual back in DC.
Bush began by sucking up most the money, which he then wasted on running a campaign 15 years out of date, in particular buying pointless attack ads, mostly against Rubio (and how's that for delicious irony now!). On top of that he began his campaign by announcing that he could win the Republican primary without the votes from people who actually vote Republican. And then when that brilliant strategy faltered, the GOPe and their paid media shills labeled all of us Republican voters ignorant, racist hillbillies.
So don't you dare blame Trump on us. He's the creation of your boy Jeb! and the GOPe and their yapping lap dogs in the conservative media. I didn't want Trump, and I still don't want him, but y'all managed to manipulate the situation into such a [redacted]-up sorry mess that it's likely to be either Trump or Hillary, which means I'm stuck with Trump.
I hold no personal animus toward you, hrt, and I liked and respected Jeb Bush at one time, even though I thought his time had passed. But now he, the donors, the GOPe, and their conservative media shills can all go die this fire of their own making.
I that's how I really feel. :-)

Gus, that is wild, I'd need a scotch now if I were you.
Derwil, I'd been anticipating a Jeb run since sometime in 2014, convinced he was an aspirational, optimistic candidate who could broaden GOP appeal by bringing in Hispanics (as he did in Florida) and easily beat Hillary Clinton. This GOPe thing still means nothing to me - Jeb didn't get elected to the House or the Senate to overthrow Obamacare and then do nothing. Jeb had and has nothing to do with politics as usual in DC. Instead, he was a very conservative, successful governor of a big state. I like wonky, thinking conservatives, and he is one.
He clearly ran a poor campaign and is much better actually being in office than running for it. I cringed, early on, when he flubbed Megyn Kelly's Code Pink type question about "How can you criticize Hillary Clinton on Benghazi when your own brother couldn't find WMD in Iraq" or whatever the hell it was. Jeb should have torn Megyn a new one for asking such a stupid question or, at the very least, he should have anticipated that somewhere along the line he was going to get stupid questions like that.
Jeb didn't call all the plays, of course, the money guys did. Like everyone else, they didn't anticipate Trump. But Jeb didn't create Trump, Trump did that himself because he's an excellent flim flam man, maybe even better than Obama, and I'm not even going to try to force myself to say anything nice about those who fall for the snake oil. I think a lot of people feel the way I do, and I know that a lot of intelligent people disagree with me (there, I did say something nice). It's gonna be a rough season.
