« Why Can't Trump Win? (Spoiler Alert) | Main | More Static From the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy »

February 25, 2016

Miss Marple

Trump does score with removing the Dept. of Education.

Wow, eliminating agencies right & left. Then waste fraud & abuse. (right)

well this is great viewing

Rubio is a bright fellow, but he's getting on my nerves. I thought all that behavior of interrupting all the time was gone after Jeb! left the campaign. I want to tell him to go to his room.

Kasich's hands are out of control.
Wolf asks Trump about Mitt's comments.

We can do without Mitt's advice or commentary.

BTW. mea culpa for my support of Romney in 2012.

Centralcal on iPad

What an obnoxious answer to Hugh.

Audits? That actually makes sense from Trump.

Miss Marple

Rubio doing a great job on debt crisis.

Jeff Dobbs

Trump complains about getting too many questions? I mean, he's right . . . but I would never have guessed Trump would want to deflect attention away from himself. Does he realize he's taking on some water tonight?

Miss Marple

nswer about audits and taxeswas a good one.

Not sure he will lose anyone on this debate. Probably won't pick up any voters, though.

Dave (in MA)

I'd release my returns after the public finishes looking at the military records Lurch promised to release 4043 days ago.

Jeff Dobbs

Not sure he will lose anyone on this debate.

Sure, he didn't even shoot anyone on Fifth Avenue, so probably not.

Dave (in MA)

He was complaining that Hewitt was only asking him questions.

Jeff Dobbs

Bathroom break!

Miss Marple

His supporters are locked in. He won't lose them.

He won't pick up anyone new, though. Probably a wash.

Cruz and Rubio attacking looked sort of desperate, if you ask me, but I am not a good judge.

Need more beer

Miss Marple

Back to the wine.

I need it for listening and reporting!

Miss Marple

Please check in when you are back from that trail where the guy went missing!

Thank you!

Cruz & Rubio attacking anyone besides each other is not what any "analyst" recommended. They must be competing for the mythical crush Trump donors that Jeb! used to have.

Kasich says we need regime change in North Korea, get rid of Kim Jong Un.

Oh no! No more regime changes, please.

Miss Marple

Trump says we needto be reimbursedfor defending countries like Japan.

This is not a bad idea, if you ask me.

Kasich says we need regime change in North Korea, get rid of Kim Jong Un.

He's really taking quite a daring stand against all those Kim Jong-Un backers.

My husband watched it--hated them all except for Dr Carson--Drudge online poll 2 out of 3 say Trump won.

Dr. Carson is complaining about his time.

Ah, Trump wants to export mercenaries.

Jeff Dobbs

Trump will win 11 out of the next 10 online polls.

Miss Marple

Carson pointing out he never got audited until the prayer Breakfast.

That right there should be a national scandal, if you ask me.

this legerdemain, forwarded by thinkregress, passes for analysis,

MM: right about that.

narciso: You are being charitable.

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

Rubio has done a good job of making the Trumpster *not* look presidential tonight.

Miss Marple

Rubio has a good line: I couldn't imagine Obama would find someone worse than Hillary Clinton, but he came up with John Kerry.

This administration never fails to amaze me with how bad they can be.

Jeff Dobbs

POLITICO ‏@politico 1m1 minute ago
Here are the #GOPDebate speaking times thus far:
Trump: 23:07
Rubio: 12:20
Cruz: 13:32
Carson: 6:23
Kasich: 10:17

Miss Marple
Rubio trying to defend his vote to confirm Kerry
Rubio performed the worst in this debate
All the charges aimed at Trump are True
Better they come out now before the Dems have a go at Trump

Jeff Dobbs

Tom Maguire ‏@Tom_Maguire 3m3 minutes ago
Trump backing Qadaffi, Saddam. Also Planned Parenthood. At this point, what difference does it make?

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

Cruz is delivering more heavy body shots to the Trumpster.

The Trumpster hasn't had much to say in defense of his record.

Miss Marple

Charges are probably true, but this doesn't mean he will lose votes.

Trump is operating in a different realm than the rest of them. They don't know how to deal with him, which is making this a free-for-all.

HA! Ben Carson asks if someone will please attack him.

Strawman Cometh

Good friend of the Mrs visited Mexico and is the 1st confirmed Zika case in NC.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

From narc's link;

Obamacare passed in March 2010. The private sector hasn't lost jobs since.

Gee what else happened in 2010 we could correlate?
Anything happen in Nov that year?

Winners of debate

you put it that way, it does look like the legion of doom,

Trump is a whiner and a liar

Miss Marple

Regarding Qadaffi, he had turned over his nuclear weapons and wasn't causing us any trouble.

He did that because he saw what happened to Saddam, and said so.

We took all of the equipment and he never caused us any trouble.

Someone explain to me how any other bad actor will give up when they look at Qadaffi's example.

Instead, we instigated his murder and then Hillary laughed about it on TV.

This seems to me to be bad foreign policy.

just as hagel wasn't as bad as carter,

I hope Rubio gets out soon because it will be very hard to vote for him
Florida may settle this election on March 15th

Jeff Dobbs

Rubio is having a very good night, maryrose.

Watching a delayed broadcast of the GOP debate and regarding tax returns, OL and Trump are absolutely correct that one cannot tell anything about one's business dealings or their wealth from tax returns.

How stupid the MFM is..

Jeff Dobbs

Drink break!

Miss Marple

Rubio did a good job on bankruptcy and Puerto Rico.

I think this and the South Carolina debate are the worst ones for Trump
Tonight is the worst night for Rubio
I had to leave the room while he was speaking
He is not ready for prime time

Donald J. Trump to Hugh Hewitt: "First of all, very few people listen to your radio show."

Did he really say that? If so, props.

Jeff Dobbs

Imagine being the guy in charge of writing up the transcript for this thing.

Heck, even assuming it's computerized - I feel bad for that machine.

Trump: Well, first, Wolf I would...

Cruz: Wolf, let me respond

Wolf: Gentleman, the rules...

Rubio: I just have to say...

Wolf: And now to Governor Kasich

Kasich: ...five minute answer...

Wolf: And next question

Carson: Nobody ever asks me a question.

Wolf: Go ahead Dr. Carson

Carson: Well, the first thing I want to say is that the source of our problems is...

Wolf: moving on, Mr. Trump....

I totally disagree wrt Rubio
He looks nervous and panicky
Not his best performance
The South Carolina debate was his best
He looked ineffective against Trump

in light of zaphod's foolish statement,

(A)Nuther Bub

Rewwarding physicians for keeping their patients healthy? What idiocy, unless you want doctors punished for discovering disease in a patient or turning away from any new patients who aren't young and healthy.

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

maryrose - I think this debate was the worst performance by the Trumpster of them all.

His hardcore fans won't be dissuaded by *any* amount of facts, but I cannot imagine that anyone who is a *persuadable* would be moved to support Trump after this debacle by him.

does he need to, he's not pitching to the most conservative territory, this is what they miss,

Miss Marple

I wouldn't call it a debacle, but I do agree, Michael, that he won't pick up any votes from his performance.

He uses too many vague statements in his defense. No details.

Miss Marple

Well, heading to bed.

Good night, all!

Jeff Dobbs

SEK is a troll, but regardless he does have something, it is striking when one uses close caption on uverse,

Jeff Dobbs

So post debate Trump speculated that he's been audited for the last 12 years because he's such a strong Christian.

(who reads the Bible more than anybody)

"That's just our Trump."

Caught about 80% of it on the dog walk and haven't heard or read a word of anyone's impressions.

I thought Trump was somewhat damaged by Cruz/Rubio attacks on a number of issues, but not lethally---on things like his HealthCare plan and Trump University and things like that, but not on his Taxes.

I think Ted did pretty well, and well enough to win Texas. Rubio was a more persistent attack dog and I suspect the GOPe is happy with his tactics, and Rubio gained some when towards the end he was able to shut up and simply watch Trump and Cruz calling each other liars when Wolf lost control of the Debate and Kasich had to wade in and bring back order. The Dem's probably enjoyed that particular bit of an unbecoming Animal House food fight.

Kasich is probably happy with how he did and I can see the GOPe eyeing him favorably if Rubio falls, but I don't see this as elevating to anybody's number 1 guy, and Kasich's struck me as full of gobbledygook about half the time when talking about his Health Care plans and how wonderful life is in Ohio.

Carson was nice and funny, but invisible, and the TeleMundo gal on the panel did a good job of showing everybody that Telemundo people don't give a crap about anything but Hispanics.

So the dogs and I see Trump as still winning Florida and Ohio, and Cruz winning Texas.

Now to see how hosed up I am by reading your guys impressions.

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

narciso - The Trumpster hasn't been appealing to the majority of the conservative/Republican voting base since early in the primary season.

Not sure that appealing to only 30%, at the expense of the other 70%, or appealing to the general election crowd before winning the nomination, is going to work out for him.

telemundo is the telenovela network, including those two turkish soaps, univision is more thought control, ie news,

"Not sure that appealing to only 30%"

The good news is that is 15% more than the others.

Did you hear Carson say he was audited after criticizing Obama. Twelve Years An Audit would be a stirring movie.

This year I'm oddly uncommitted. Badly burned by that idiot who surfaced only to adopt his co-religionists nasty tax tactic. Embarrassing to those who admire(d)him.

That said, I though some fresh criticism was highlighted in the debate, but that Rubio seemed like a teenage boy arguing with his dad. He interrupted and talked over Trump. Unnecessary.

Cruz, the only other real player, is so stiff and lawyer-like (I know, I know) that he can be off putting. And, he was my pick at first. He landed a punch or two. But Trump hit them both with the "melt down" and the "liar" tags that seem to have stuck.

If you are not reading Scott Adams' blog (the Dilbert guy) you are missing the best, objective, rational analysis of the Trump Enigma (starring Steve Reeves). I highly recommend it.

He predicted something like Trump's discussion of Rubio sweating. Now, everyone will think of him "sweating." Melting down. Amazing stuff that just seems ad libbed. It's not.

Mercy. It is entertaining, if scary, like a giant roller coaster.

Jeff Dobbs

Trump on the "lines around the states"....

1) TRUMP: We should have gotten rid of the lines around each state so we can have real competition.

2) TRUMP: We thought that was gone, we thought those lines were going to be gone

3) TRUMP: But, we should have gotten rid of the borders, we should have gotten rid of the lines around the state so there's great competition.

4) TRUMP: I'm going to do what's right. We have to get rid of the lines around the states so that there's serious, serious competition.

5) TRUMP: The lines around the states...

RUBIO: ... That's your only plan...

TRUMP: ... and, it was almost done -- not now.

6) TRUMP: You get rid of the lines, it brings in competition. So, instead of having one insurance company taking care of New York, or Texas, you'll have many. They'll compete, and it'll be a beautiful thing.

7) RUBIO: So, that's the only part of the plan? Just the lines?

TRUMP: The nice part of the plan -- you'll have many different plans. You'll have competition, you'll have so many different plans.

RUBIO: Now he's repeating himself.

TRUMP: No, no, no.

TRUMP: (inaudible)

RUBIO: (inaudible)

TRUMP: (inaudible) I watched him repeat himself five times four weeks ago...

RUBIO: ... I just watched you repeat yourself five times five seconds ago...

Yes, and that toss away line "I am the only one on stage that has ever hired anyone" also was not ad libbed, though it sounded so.

The Clown: "- I think this debate was the worst performance by the Trumpster of them all."

The People:

TRUMP 63.78% (78,571 votes)
CRUZ 17.85% (21,987 votes)
RUBIO 12.76% (15,721 votes)
KASICH 3.62% (4,463 votes)
CARSON 1.98% (2,443 votes)

Total Votes: 123,185

Friend's post on FB

Jane and I were just talking about Trump and everyone trying to pull out all the bad stuff Trump has done.
It occurs to me that Republicans gave us no one to vote for, just more of the same ol stuff. And I would rather have a crooked right winger then a crooked Democrat, so it doesn't really matter what anyone wants to drag out of the Trump closet.
A crooked Trump will most likely give me what I want in Government rather then a Socialist/Communist, or another politician Republican.

the house repealed mccarran ferguson in 2010, ostensibly the reason for this segmenting of the insurance market,

when well the cluebat hit them, that these sniper allies are no 'good for children, animals or other living things,'

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

Pollo-hawk -

Why bother anyone with a poll from Drudge?

You'd get just as legitimate a result doing a poll of Trump supporters at one of his rallies.

Silly troll, tricks are for kids . . .

"If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, no one would convict you." -- Lindsey Graham (R-SC)

Not sure that appealing to only 30%, at the expense of the other 70%, or appealing to the general election crowd before winning the nomination, is going to work out for him.

Not sure Rubio getting rebuked by 80% is going to do any better.

goose graham, reminds us of why caning should be reintroduced in the senate,

the ewok hasn't been this excited, since he was skulking around rubio's garbage,

Jeff Dobbs

Heh, one of the guys on the Luntz panel in Houston said how Carson is humble, but pronounces it like the Houston suburb Humble.

(it's pronounced Umble)

This is obviously a non PC comment, but I think a lot of people are still trying to figure out why a Mexican chick is asking questions of candidates for a US Presidential election.

the whole democratic field is like the walking dead, yet he lasers in on the gop,

It's not so much whether a comment is planned to sound like an ad lib. What's important is when and how the comment is delivered. Trump picked his spot and delivered the comment like a pro.

So the spin is supposedly that Rubio had a good debate night. That just indicates to me that he's the MFM's preferred R candidate.. Ugh..

Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom)

Jeff - Glad you're still here. Meant to post something the other day re your satire.
Here it is, hopefully better late than never:

I wasn't serious. But I thought my stuff wasn't so "poorly written" :(

But - it wasn't really just satire - it was hyperbole using the very arguments that Trump, Rubio and their supporters use as to why Cruz shouldn't be the nominee...

I thought it was really good. Especially enjoyed the crunchy bits o' irony you included. :)

Thanks for posting it.

Brilliant decision by the Clown Hall overlords:

1124 HOLY CRAP hot air live debate thread THIRTY-FIVE total comments and 6 forwards... Hot Air appears to have committed suicide.

Capt. Ed tweeted out some snide and classless comments about the readers in the farewell thread. He said they were being drama queens, or words to that effect, which was a shitty way to treat people who have been reading your blog for years.

Wonder how snide and superior he feels now that he's practically talking to himself over there?

a lot of people are still trying to figure out why a Mexican chick is asking questions of candidates for a US Presidential election

Dual citizen candidates know the answer.

Listening to highlights on Salem radio.

The Rubio cheerleaders are awesome! I wonder of they tumble as well?

Guy Benson portrays Rubio as a regular Ivan Drago.

Was Trump bleeding from his whatever?

I missed a heck of a debate, it seems.

well if they are aiming for Larry Wilmore level of more selective audience, cheers,

most of this new information, comes via Carlos Slim's, naw they wouldn't have an ulterior motives, yes Reuters did some investigating last summer,

My husband and I are disgusted with how Fox wants to elevate Rubio
I agree he looked like a kid arguing with his dad
Trump can bring independents and Other Democrats
That is his strength

Loved this bit from the Donald Trump just moments ago, while still standing on the CNN debate stage, and answering questions via TV from Eric Bolling of the Five on FOX:

Bolling: ...You can out of the box answering that early. By the way, there were a lot of questions directed towards you tonight.

Trump: Well I think it was unfair actually to Ben Carson and to Governor Kasich, because they were really uhhh, not uhhh, actually not only asked of me, but the other ones were always asked "Donald Trump said this, Donald Trump said that," the whole thing was like they were, you know, trying to start trouble. It almost reminds me of FOX if you want to know the truth...

Trump then cracked a big smile and went on ramblin'.

New thread. Damn the thread gods!

A crooked Trump will most likely give me what I want in Government rather then a Socialist/Communist, or another politician Republican.
Posted by: Stephanie | February 25, 2016 at 11:30 PM

Stephanie - Any idea what your friend wants in government?

Did she say how she figures that someone like Trump, who denies he's done/said the things he's been proven and/or quoted/recorded as doing/saying, could *possibly* be counted on to do what he *now* says he is in favor of doing?

Senator Cruz...

TRUMP: I know politicians -- I know politicians, believe it or not, better than you do. And it's not good.

CRUZ: I believe it. No, no. I believe you know politicians much better than I do, because for 40 years, you've been funding liberal Democratic politicians. And by the way...

TRUMP: I funded you. I funded him. Can you believe it?

CRUZ: ... the reason is -- you're welcome to have the check back.

TRUMP: I funded this guy. I gave him a check.

CRUZ: Yeah, you gave me $5,000.

TRUMP: I gave him a check. He never funded me.

CRUZ: And -- and by the way, let's be clear.

Donald claims -- Donald claims to care about...

TRUMP: You know why? I didn't want to, but he sent me his book with his autograph...

CRUZ: Donald. Donald. Donald. I understand rules are very hard for you. They're very confusing.

TRUMP: Mr. Trump, you're doing a great job. I have his book.

TRUMP: Thank you -- thank you for the book. Go ahead.

CRUZ: Donald, you can get back on your meds now.

TRUMP: This is a lot of fun up here tonight, I have to tell you.

Thank -- thank you for the book. I really appreciate (ph).

CRUZ: Donald -- Donald, relax.

TRUMP: Go ahead. I'm relaxed. You're the basket case.

Go ahead.

CRUZ: Donald...

TRUMP: Go ahead. Don't get nervous.

CRUZ: (inaudible)...

TRUMP: Go ahead.

CRUZ: I promise you, Donald, there's nothing about you...

TRUMP: I've seen you.

CRUZ: ... that makes anyone nervous.

TRUMP: You're losing so badly you -- I want to...

CRUZ: You know, people are actually watching this at home.

TRUMP: ... I -- you don't know what's happening.

BLITZER: Gentlemen, gentlemen.

CRUZ: Wolf, I'm going to ask my time not be deducted when he's yelling at me.

BLITZER: You've gotta stop this.

BLITZER: The latest debate -- gentlemen, please.

CRUZ: Hold on, I'm going to get my answer. He doesn't get to yell the whole time.

BLITZER: I want to move -- I want to move on. These are the rules.

CRUZ: Excuse me, he called me a liar, then interrupted the whole time. Am I allowed to...

Rewwarding physicians for keeping their patients healthy? What idiocy,...

Thanks A(B),

That bit from Kasich made zero sense to me at all. Talk about "voodoo economics."

why did people leave Hot Air?

cheerleader, after many years of anonymous commenting where people had been using handles like we do here at JOM, they moved to Facebook comments. That prompted near full scale revolt and abandonment by the commenters, and they were already having readership issues. I don't think Hot Air will be around much longer.
