Pins and needles time - I am looking for a way to sleep through to Saturday night that does not involve heavy drinking on Friday night. Of course, I totally get anyone who is weighing the heavy drinking strategy...

Maybe we'll be drinking heavily after the SC results start rolling in tomorrow night. Strange that a primary vote would be on a Saturday.

This is why I pulled back fro being invested in any candidate. Close call for me!

An online friend is working at Cruz phone bank. A colleague went out for doughnuts and coffee for everyone. He heard some guys behind him who were working for Rubio--so he bought up every damn doughnut in the place, leaving none for the Rubio workers. Vicious dirty tricks.

Early voting in GA started last Monday, and the primary isn't until March 1. I imagine that's the norm across the country now.

Clarice, I hope Henry is working away to answer your tech questions. My better half has been an Apple person since '84 and it has gotten so complex that it is impossible to really sort things out. He told me that Rush has quite a bit of knowledge on all things Apple so if you were to sort thru Rush's recent rumination's you might find some clarity on this passcode situation.

When Roberts was running for re election did Cruz campaign for him?
Did Rubio go to Kansas to help him out?
I am just curious.
I think Cruz did help
That was the last significant thing Dole did
I believe Roberts endorsed Rubio
That is why I am curious if Rubio helped him in his hour of need

Happy birthdays all!
maryrose, thanks for the TCM reminder!
This is funny - our weekly commie rag's endorsements for the primary and local elections:
http://www.austinchronicle.com/news/2016-02-12/chronicle-endorsements/
Even though that paper has been kind to Mr Porch's musical efforts over the years, I have not allowed it in the house for at least 15 years, unless he's on the cover. Naturally I plan to vote for the opponent of everyone they endorse.
You have to scroll down and read the Republican endorsements:
The Chronicle is an advocacy weekly of liberal/progressive principles in keeping with the majority democratic values of our community, and our editorial board only occasionally makes endorsements or recommendations in Republican primaries, based on those values. For thoughtful, moderate Republican voters, we offer a few, selected recommendations on the GOP primary ballot.
Kasich - of course. For "thoughtful, moderate Republican voters."

Hey TK, how important is it to flush the torque converter if I'm changing the trans filter and fluid?
I know how, just not sure I want to go to the trouble unless it makes a big difference.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | February 19, 2016 at 10:40 PM
Is there a drain plug on the converter?
I'd be amazed.
Posted by: Threadkiller | February 19, 2016 at 10:46 PM
Unless the fluid is burned to a crisp, I wouldn't sweat what is left behind in the converter.
Maintenance of addressing an issue?
Posted by: Threadkiller | February 19, 2016 at 10:58 PM
No. I'd have to pop the supply line on the oil cooler.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | February 19, 2016 at 10:58 PM
Hard to say. Those F 150 coils over the plug have a tendency to go bad and the truck misses a little when it does. I usually just wait til it misses bad enough for the check light to come on so I can code it so I know what cylinder it is.
It's been missing like that for a while but the light hasn't come on so now I'm starting to wonder if my tranny is mimicking a defective coil miss. Needs a new filter and fluid anyway.

Good Morning everyone and thanks for the many Birthday wishes.
Maryrose,
I am in Taipei, and the weasel I am working with saw on the Customs Forms that it was my B'Day, so he ratted me out to my favorite Bar Maids last night at our local dive and they surprised me with a chocolate cake and candle and singing and we had much unexpected fun till closing. I texted Jane a pic of my cake slice, next to my Martini with the big olives that I smuggle in, so maybe that'll get posted for a laugh.
Anyhow, much fun, and launching home shortly to see who wins the South Carolina Primary in about 20 hours. Go Cruz!
Of interest is that the guy I'm working with is from Charleston and he and his wife are big Conservative political support types, and I'd hate to see what he'd do to Lindsay Graham if he had a hatchet and could catch Lindsay alone in a cloakroom:)
Cheers! Happy B'Day GUS and GUS.

Also the Mass airflow sensor can play hell on those systems because of an algorithm that ford used to replace a barometric sensor to save a few bucks. Sometimes the misfire is altitude/fuel related.

Narciso,
I recall a few years back how you liked my pasting of part of a book by Iain McCalman, Darwin's Armada, where he went thru the mechanics of how "Team Darwin" orchestrated winning the public debate for evolution in 1860's England.
McCalman's got a new one out I read this trip, The Reef: A Passionate History: The Great Barrier Reef from Captain Cook to Climate Change
Really interesting and enjoyable accounts of bizarre westerners from Captain Cook's time onward, winding up shipwrecked on the Great Barrier Reef and somehow surviving.
One that intrigued me yesterday, was a French Cabin Boy named Narcisse Pelletier, who gets shipwrecked on the reef in 1858 at age 13, and as all his companions get drowned or cannibalized, he gets adopted as the son of some Tribal Elder. 17 years later he has gone full native and lost all his French language skills, but upon being rescued (he claimed kidnap) and returned to France and his family, nobody knows how to reintegrate him, so they wind up bringing in the Church to perform exorcisms, and when that doesn't work they make him a Light House Keeper where he ends his days on the French Coast.
Anyhow, the name reminded me of you and I thought it, and a number of other accounts in the book were very interesting. Odd though, how in all these anthropology studies I read of the Australian Aborigines I never come across a single one that describes any of their clans as being atheists:)
Posted by: daddy | February 20, 2016 at 12:32 AM
You know what Daddy, your post to Narciso, made me think about Pope Francis. The irony of a Catholic prelate being a Marxist is palpable. Marxism does not abide Christianity well.
Posted by: Gus | February 20, 2016 at 12:43 AM
The Pope is not a Marxist
Posted by: maryrose | February 20, 2016 at 12:49 AM
So I take it Rubio didn't campaign for Roberts in Kansas but Cruz did?
Then he endorses Rubio
Makes me go Hmmm
Posted by: maryrose | February 20, 2016 at 12:51 AM
Maryrose! Hello. I believe the Pope is the result of several factors. 2 of them are the Marxist/Socialist failed economic and social policies of his homeland. And, he is also a Jesuit. I believe Pope Francis is far closer to Marxist than he is to embracing Capitalism, I believe he is also influenced by the Jesuit nature of "Social Justice". I love him and I pray for him.
My son attends the finest Jesuit High School in Wisconsin.
Maryrose, you are a wonderful lady. I don't mean to disrespect The Pope, nor you.

Clarice, I don't know if Apple is pulling a smokescreen or not with the iCloud password thing. iCloud can be set up or turned off. Thus the Apple execs doing a lot of "maybe" language while hemming and hawing about that approach. I do not use iCloud because I prefer my own backups over ceding anything to Apple (this assumes Apple doesn't vacuum everything anyway -- I don't trust them but accept that risk).
Clearly if using iCloud had worked, we would not be hearing much about this particular phone. Equally clearly when combined with Comey's 2/9 testimony and NY AG Vance's comments, the government went to court using this phone with broader access in mind. They want a generic back door. They found a judge that will force it, and an issue (dead terrorist) that they believe will gain public backing. They deployed the IT equivalent of "fire won't melt steel" in demanding a special program to subvert a key security feature -- marked by a "special code" to only work on this one phone. Any hacker, and presumably the FBIs own techs, can isolate that code and substitute another -- malware 101. Such a program must be a generic backdoor as Apple contends, it is an engineering property of software.

Henry!!! Hola! Good to see you. I'm probably buying Lil Gus a Ford Ranger this weekend.

Mark Sanford should not be an elected official. What is wrong with us.

Hi Gus! I think Gus Jr would enjoy a Ford Ranger.
Posted by: henry | February 20, 2016 at 01:17 AM
I've found one Henry, and it's priced right. 5 speed, extended cab. Lil Gus can't drive until around Christmas, so I'd have time to drive it, modify it as necessary, and put in the bugging and tracking devices!!

Hey Henry. 2 things. 1) Who would you vote for TODAY. 2) Can you and I get together for a Marquette Basketball game in the next couple weeks??
Posted by: Gus | February 20, 2016 at 01:22 AM
Nice Gus!
Posted by: henry | February 20, 2016 at 01:23 AM
Henry, I may sell my Les Paul Gold top to finance the boys new ride. I love the guitar, but I love the boy a whole lot more.
Posted by: Gus | February 20, 2016 at 01:24 AM
Gus, tough call there. But you have the right priority.
Posted by: henry | February 20, 2016 at 01:35 AM
Yes Henry, the boy did not like the idea of the Gold Top leaving "the stable". I have 2 other Les Paul's and he has one. The Gold top is beautiful and kind of show quality. But as I explained to Jr.. I have bills to pay and he is my priority. I may NOT sell it, but I'm in pretty good shape either way. He's a great kid,as you know, he's an Eagle Scout, he's at the top of the honor roll, and I live 27 miles west of his High School!!!
Again Henry, let's get together for a Marquette Basketball game. I know where to get tickets....wink wink.
Posted by: Gus | February 20, 2016 at 01:39 AM
Who would I vote for? Cruz maybe. There is so much distraction it's hard to tell who is proposing what. On the basketball we can probably make that work.
Posted by: henry | February 20, 2016 at 01:40 AM
Henry, I would vote for Cruz now too. As for basketball, I understand that your car does not head east into Killwaukee, but we can work that out. Maybe I can introduce you too the "powers that be" at Marquette, but I can certainly show you a good time and introduce you to the team and coaching staff, and further, I can make sure you and I get a GREAT MEAL and BEER before, during and after the game.

It seems that the iPhone password was not changed by an FBI agent, but by a county employee, and that password change came within 24 hours of the iPhone being recovered.
Is the chain of custody known ?
Who made the password change ?
If we know who made the change, then why did that person change the password?
What was the relationship between the person who changed the password and the terrorist ?
What is the background of the person who changed the password ? EG: was s/he:
a male or female?
a natural born citizen or an immigrant ?
a Christian, Jewish, mooslim, or atheist?
a person known on any "watchlist"?
an experienced IT person ?
The more I hear/read, the more questions I have, the more this whole story suggests
Posted by: Sandy ن Daze | February 20, 2016 at 06:26 AM
gaslighting.
Posted by: Sandy ن Daze | February 20, 2016 at 06:27 AM
I suppose that I should just give up on getting Apple to help me access all my old iTunes songs that went into the iCloud somewhere...if the FBI can figure out how to do THAT then they are on to something.
Posted by: boatbuilder | February 20, 2016 at 06:40 AM
The Pope is not a Marxist
He only criticizes the US. Where was his criticism of Mexico producing conditions that make the citizens escape by illegally enter this country? Where's his badmouthing of China or Cuba?
Your outrage is very selective about who, by their words and actions, hate this country. Until you stop dogmatically defending this communist pope against reasonable criticism of what he says about our country and the free market system, I'm calling you out on it just like I'd do anybody defending the Iranian nutjobs or the commiecrats.
Posted by: Captain Hate | February 20, 2016 at 06:53 AM
Lol boatbuilder. I hear that frequently (don't have any songs on iTunes, so never looked into how lost ones are found).
Sandy, good set of questions. For all I know the answers can be found on the phone itself. The Apple execs didn't say having an unchanged iCloud password guaranteed access to the phone data via forced backup to the cloud. Just that if they could force the backup, unencrypted iCloud data can be shared with the FBI without a warrant.
Anyone wishing background information should look into PGP encryption and munitions export controls -- the US govt interests are against private sector encryption and have been for a long time. The US gov even proposed mandatory use of the Clipper chip (featuring a backdoor for US govt use) on all consumer devices. This is not about a dead terrorist's phone.
Posted by: henry | February 20, 2016 at 07:01 AM
Boatbuilder, Apple will assist in recovery if you go into one of their stores or you can call them on the phone. They will usually assist in retrieval one time for a loss of your music library. After that, you are on your own.
Been there, done that.

There's also the whole thing where the press was allowed to trample through the house of the terrorists before investigators had even begun to do their work.
The government needs to demonstrate it is competent to exercise the power it already has, before it can be trusted with more power.
Posted by: James D. | February 20, 2016 at 07:58 AM
Henry, ISTM that the encryption horse has already levy the corral. I recall NSA's/USG's initial concerns re 64 bit and 128 bit encryption, export of computing power etc, last century. Today's pocket computers put all of that stuff to shame.
JamesD, like so many areas, when the "authorities" or the "elites" personally start behaving in s manner that assists that they're actually is a crisis, then perhaps I will actually start believing them when they demand more control over my life for my own good.
