Peyton Manning looks to burnish his place in the football pantheon. Cam Newton hopes to cap an MVP season with a Super Bowl ring, thereby completing the NCAA champ, NFL champ, Heisman winner, MVP winner career sweep only attained by.... you don't want me to say, but it is not Tony Dorsett, who is still the only guy to be NCAA champ one year and NFL champ the next, with a Heisman thrown in as well as an Offensive Rookie of the Year but no MVP during his Hall of Fame career.
I am rooting hard for Peyton but resigned to a Carolina victory. Actually, I'm just hoping for a show and a reason to be quaffing a brew in the fourth quarter.
I myself am truly looking forward to missing another halftime "show".

Nice of them to boo Tom Brady. What assholes.
Posted by: Jane | February 07, 2016 at 06:13 PM
My thoughts when Trump was booed.
Posted by: Threadkiller | February 07, 2016 at 06:15 PM
Has spring training started yet?
Posted by: henry | February 07, 2016 at 06:17 PM
Brady booed? An unsolicited testimonial from USA's football fans.
Posted by: NK | February 07, 2016 at 06:19 PM
Peyton? after tonight his next Nationwide jingle will be:
"Super Bowl record's 1 and 3."
Posted by: NK | February 07, 2016 at 06:20 PM
henry-- which MLB team do you support?
Posted by: NK | February 07, 2016 at 06:21 PM
Pitchers and catchers start reporting in 9 days, Henry.
Posted by: Stephanie | February 07, 2016 at 06:22 PM
NK, the good one. (aka StL)
Thanks Stephanie. I won't pay much attention to baseball until August, unless the good team sucks then I wait a year.
Posted by: henry | February 07, 2016 at 06:25 PM
Hoping to catch the gist of tonight's sportsfest commentary, I landed on the Official NFL Superbowl Page, looking for a primer on Newton vs Manning.
Holy shades of Calculus 101! You need a decoder ring just to read the cheat sheets. In sum, I gather it's going to be kind of like a face off between Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly?
Posted by: JMHanes | February 07, 2016 at 06:27 PM
Well lady Gaga can sing!
Posted by: Jane | February 07, 2016 at 06:30 PM
Yeah, but can she stop?
Posted by: danoso | February 07, 2016 at 06:31 PM
Is this game ever going to start?
Posted by: danoso | February 07, 2016 at 06:35 PM
Lady Gag in glitter, belting out the national anthem, flags, troops, football, and a fly-over -- only in America!
Posted by: JMHanes | February 07, 2016 at 06:37 PM
Yes, that was a typo!
Posted by: JMHanes | February 07, 2016 at 06:38 PM
gaga's anthem wasn't bad, not my taste, but not bad.
BTW-- will Beyonce hijack the halftime show with BLM nonsense?
Posted by: NK | February 07, 2016 at 06:41 PM
henry-- I assumed you are a Cards fan.
Can't take credit for the jingle. The NY Post NFL picks guy published that Friday.
Posted by: NK | February 07, 2016 at 06:43 PM
I wish they'd either just play the National Anthem or sing it -- not make it a razzle dazzle show. Would be so much more respectful.
Man, I am so old. :)

Earlier, I posted the Twitchy link with Obama throwing a football in a stadium. As usual, HE has to be the center of attention.
But wait, there's more!
The White House has now posted ANOTHER, different picture of Obama throwing a football, with the caption "Ready for the kick-off."
Posted by: Miss Marple | February 07, 2016 at 06:45 PM
Beyoncé is quite the performer with a very good voice
She won't have a wardrobe malfunction ala Janet Jackson
I liked the Ron Howard spoof at the kick off show
If you want to know what my older brother looks like he is the doppelgänger for Ron Howard
Posted by: maryrose | February 07, 2016 at 06:47 PM
I am not watching. Am afraid Peyton will get injured and I refuse to watch Beyonce.
I will probably spend my time packing boxes for tomorrow's shipping.
Everyone else, enjoy the game!
Posted by: Miss Marple | February 07, 2016 at 06:49 PM
Going to the 4th sudden death playoff hole between Rickie and Hideki Matsuyama. Major clutch putting.

MM
Feel better
I don't usually watch either
Good old fashioned baked chicken
Garlic mashed taters and salsa dip and chips
Enjoy the game everyone!

Posted by: Captain Hate | February 07, 2016 at 07:02 PM
Mmmmm, the taquitos came out ab fab. I baked them - so not as crispy if they had been fried . . . but the pork was amazing.
hit and run jr might have eaten a dozen of them.
While I was cooking downstairs, everyone else started the snacking in the bonus room upstairs.
They ate all the pigs in a blanket before I made it upstairs.

it's a garish spectacle, the colloseum proprietors, would be ashamed of,
Posted by: narciso | February 07, 2016 at 07:08 PM
Cam is supposed to be too big and strong for a linebacker to be able to strip him of the ball in the pocket.
Posted by: Jeff Dobbs | February 07, 2016 at 07:09 PM
Denver doing a Carolina hyper-start on the Panthers.

Bogey for Rickie and Matsuyama will most likely win.
Posted by: Stephanie | February 07, 2016 at 07:27 PM
Matsuyama won. :(
Not my weekend for winning so which team should I pull for?

Posted by: Jeff Dobbs | February 07, 2016 at 07:39 PM
JiB - Belated Happy B'day wishes. Hope you're feeling better.
I was going to predict Carolina wins, 34-23. Despite Denver's quick start, I still think Carolina wins it, probably about 34-26.

Cam Newton had to google Doug Williams because he thought he was the only black quarterback that was a winner. Idiot.
Beyonce is singing her new song Formation. Google the words and/or watch the video. She is indeed going all BLM on us and vulgar to boot. And she had a full police escort to the game. Bitch.
Posted by: Sue | February 07, 2016 at 07:48 PM
I'm going to have to shoot another TV.

MM,
Late getting back. First off I hope you're feeling better.
Happy to hear your hairdresser has a head on her shoulders. Too bad she's getting shafted with the rest of us. What's it like living in a conservative area? I'm stuck in a blue hell.
I'm pulling for the Broncos. Either way I'd like to see 18 retire with relatively good health. No halftime show for me.
Posted by: Gentlejim | February 07, 2016 at 08:14 PM
Sue:

Well, he also let Malia go intern for the Lena Dunham show Girls....so we know he takes the role model thing seriously.

actually it's twice Jeff. This game is even as can be. Denver has scored 6 points on offense, Carolina 7.

I'm thinking of that old saying which I'll massacre but it goes like this:
Old age and craftiness (Manning) will beat youth and vigor (Newton) every time.
Posted by: glasater | February 07, 2016 at 08:31 PM
Daddy, I'm not watching one minute of anything but the game. Beyonce can Goodell can go to hell. More pandering to the least common denominator.
Posted by: Gus | February 07, 2016 at 08:31 PM
glasater - or the old Reagan saw....

I can almost listen to coldplay as a background muzak kind of thing, but seeing this rainbow preschool backpack color extravaganza is really too much. now there's a Michael Jacksonesque band in rubber diving suits. I really regret having done drugs forty years ago.
