Let's get this week underway.
ALL ABOUT THE EMAILS: The WaPo goes deeply into the background of the Clinton email scandal. Kevin Drum illustrates the eyes-closed, fingers-in-ears and humming softly Democrats:
As near as I can tell, once you cut through the weeds it's the story of a senior official who's technically illiterate and didn't want to change her email habits. Both Clinton and her inner circle of advisers were "dedicated [BlackBerry] addicts," but apparently neither the NSA nor anyone else was willing to help them make their BlackBerries safe.... In the meantime, she grudgingly obeyed rules that required her to leave her phone behind when she entered her 7th floor office, but used it everywhere else.
Uh huh. The fact that her arrangement inexplicably prevented her emails from being caught up in FOIA requests was just a weird unintended consequence, even though we have emails from top staffers specifically noting that very consequence. Paul Mirengoff expounds on this.
Good morning !
Would that be a Red Dawn?

Yesterday, a high of 72°F here in 49242.
Today , not so much. Looking at maybe mid - 40s
Looking forward to the vortex this weekend , guess it will effect Henry first. We're circadian for a 34°on Saturday, with some possible snow - - time will tell.

On Saturday afternoon the first news story on the top of the hour news broadcast that I heard on the supposedly conservative Salem Radio network was that a bird landed on the stage with Comrade Bernie.
I guess it was a slow news weekend.

Daughter moved out of her apartment a month ago, did not want to renew her lease while she looked for a home (first - time buyer). She's in with us, which is great, and has found a home, closes in three weeks. Having her under the roof for these few weeks is splendid.
She brought her two indoor cats with her. Added to our three cats, well, we will not mind saying adios to those felines.
Which reminds me of this article (I think narc posted) from a couple days ago :

If the latest polls are an accurate prediction of the future, (i) Cruz will stop Trump from getting to 50% plus 1, (ii) Cruz won't make significant inroads into Trump's lead, and (iii) Kasich will be needed by Trump or Cruz as the Veep pick (I don't for one minute believe Kasich's dismissal of the possibility that he'd accept the nomination). The big surprise for me is the continuing strong showing of Comrade Sanders in the national polls.

On that letter quiz, I scored moderate Introvert, moderate Intuitive, moderate Thinking and slight Perceiving. That's about what I expected. For example, on the Introvert/Extrovert classification, I gain energy in a stressful situation by withdrawing myself from society for a few hours, reading and contemplating. However, I also love to go out and party with a crowd when I don't have business to take care of. So moderate Introvert would be a logical result. I also believe in analyzing things carefully, but also believe that after all is said and done, I make my best decisions on the basis of intuition.

Make that I don't believe Kasich's dismissal of the possibility he'd accept the VEEP nomination. Kasich has never dismissed the possibility that he would accept the POTUS nomination in a brokered convention. In fact, I suspect Kasich will put on a Clinic in Cleveland with respect to back room maneuvering.

From the last thread - I am also an admirer of NC furniture and am sad to see that era pass. Excellent quality and (some of it, anyway) great American design by American designers.
I collect Drexel Declaration, and I have two older good quality sofas (a Bassett and an unknown American make) with great "bones" that will be recovered some day when I can afford it.

Kasich must be getting a lot of female votes, NK, to be doing so well in the national polls.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | March 28, 2016 at 11:25 AM
Plus, Kasich helps the most in a clear battleground state. If Cruz and Trump ends up the nominee, there will most likely be a Duke and Duke Veep such as Kasich or Haley.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | March 28, 2016 at 11:27 AM
national polls? still dodgy IMO, although the media propably have much less of an agenda with Kasich's standing.

I like LaZBoy. I have a recliner in my office at work, and people always ask how come I have a recliner. It's because certain people insisted that we get rid of it, and I wasn't about to throw it out. We also had a LaZBoy sectional that I liked in the Person Cave that had just a little wear & tear so we had to get rid of if I ever wanted any peace. :)

Here's a question for the JOM College Basketball Committee: If 'Cuse wins two more, will Boeheim be the first coach in NCAA Division 1 history to have coached a national championship team the same season in which the coach served a suspension sanction?
Posted by: Thomas Collins | March 28, 2016 at 11:42 AM
Perhaps Jim B. has already made history. I don't recall another coach of a Final Four team having been in NCAA suspension land earlier in the season.

Let's see. We've covered -- and complimented -- -- Donald Trump for his fidelity (especially to his creditors), his self-effacing humor, and the respect he shows to his supporters.
This week, what I like best about Trump is the transparency of his campaign. He released his income tax returns just weeks after declaring for the presidency. He had his accountants release summaries of the companies he owns (or his banks own). He released his full medical records. He released his political emails for the last ten years.
When questions came up about his meeting with the NYT editorial board, he immediately asked the newspaper to release the recording of the meeting.
He even released a copy of his will, so that no one could suspect that his ex-wives might be saying nice things about him now, in hopes of a payoff later.
This is truly a man who has nothing to hide.
Posted by: Jim Miller | March 28, 2016 at 11:52 AM

TC - Rumors abound . . .
Is this the part that involves Destiny and the Champagne Room girls?
Posted by: Michael (fpa Patriot4Freedom) | March 28, 2016 at 11:56 AM
Aha, Michael! Remember, what happens in a bar (whether one with Champagne Rooms or not), stays in the bar!
I will say this: Given current coastal aspiring gentry mores, one would get into more trouble being reported to have smoked Newports in a cigar bar than being in a smokeless Champagne Room with Destiny or Tatiana! :-))
Posted by: Thomas Collins | March 28, 2016 at 12:09 PM
Boeheim has gamed the NCAA very well considering the school was nailed for massive academic fraud over a long period of time. The "punishment" was a self ban from the tournament last year, for which they wouldn't have qualified anyway, and that geeky [Redacted] was suspended for nine meaningless games at the beginning of the season. As it was they probably didn't deserve to get in the tournament anyway but there must be some fellow travelers on the inside. So they got put into a joke bracket headed up by the empty trophy case and here we are.
Don't get me started on what the Holes have pulled.
Posted by: Captain Hate | March 28, 2016 at 12:10 PM
As far as Trump's transparency goes, JM, I'd love to see those docs embodying the deals he made with his creditors. One of Trump's problems as he goes for 50% plus one, I suspect, is that he doesn't have a lot of excess cash to throw around in this campaign for the later primaries and for securing faithful delegates.
Posted by: Thomas Collins | March 28, 2016 at 12:12 PM
Trump definitely does not have free cash Flow to spend on his campaign. His loan covenants won't allow for that, no way. That's why the Media has effectively financed his campaign with free coverage of his antics. He used the media as a mark and they willfully (willingly?) complied.
Posted by: NK | March 28, 2016 at 12:18 PM
True, he doesn't have a lot of excess cash. But one might throw a tiny bit of credit his way for getting as far as he has on as little money as he's spent. Has anyone done anything remotely close in recent decades?

Don't overlook the complicity of the RNC by giving the MFM complete control over the debates despite Reince Priebus having stated previously that the party had to figure out how to deal with the network bias.

NK, I hate to give Saint Deanie a pass on anything but he was surely mentally out of the picture when the violations occurred. I honestly like Roy but this will not work out well for him. The technique whereby they self reported some lesser violations to defer the day of reckoning for the big whopper is probably the best Hole application of the four corners since the beginning of the shot clock.

Cruz-Kasich or Trump-Kasich?
Posted by: Thomas Collins | March 28, 2016 at 12:53 PM
Regarding Kasich:
Some people think it is because he is running out of money.
I think I am more of the mind that a VP deal is in the works, like Porchlight thinks. Either VP or Treasury, maybe.
I assume conventional wisdom would be that this helps Cruz. I do not know if that has solid evidence behind it. In my experience, the voters seem to split. Some will go to Cruz because they are scared of Trump, and some will go to Trump because they think Cruz is too conservative, plus other things.
Posted by: Miss Marple 2 | March 28, 2016 at 12:55 PM

Momto2, thanks for posting that.
That's a crazy story. The palagarist went to quite a bit of effort there, actually rewriting the book.
I've heard of other authors fallign victim to more brazen thieves, who simply republish their books as-is (maybe changing the title & cover).
The worst thing I've heard, though, is the practice of taking someone's books "hostage" by filing a false DCMA takedown notice with Amazon and then demanding money from the author to retract it. They often put up excerpts on their own website and backdate them to make it look as though they wrote the book first.
I would be all in favor of those people being targeted for Predator drone strikes, and any survivors (including family members and any neighbors, just to make sure everyone gets the point) shipped off to Gitmo for a few months of "enhanced interrogation" before facing a firing squad.

RIF,
If I remember correctly, public figures cannot sue due to some kind of rule in the libel law, which, by the way, Trump suggested revamping to much hysteria about freedom of the press.
I consider Cruz not suing to be part of the same result of said law. It doesn't confirm nor deny his guilt or innocence.

I'd like to hear something about all the emails that Hillary did not turn over. I mean, really, how much yoga does she look like she's been doing?
We know from witnesses that she worked on Clinton Foundation business at the office, and I've always thought that a lot of those putatively "personal" messages are where you'd find the smoking guns of criminality and corruption. Not to mention evidence of other serious character flaws and/or embarrassing idiocy -- in fact, the personal emails might have done more to damage her campaign, had they been published, than the "official" correspondence.
Everyone seems to be taking the "personal" claim at face value. Do we actually know whether her server was, in fact, wiped irretrievably clean?
Posted by: JM Hanes | March 28, 2016 at 03:21 PM
The Mitt Romney "affair" is an account of a woman he dated 40 years ago before he and Ann were married. It's a recap of stories in published books, not original reporting.
The Obama story involves two public figures and no one else.
The Palin story (named person, no photo) might be true, and the Hillary story - no names or photos.
But the NE published photos of 5 women, three of whom were instantly identifiable. Most of them do not meet the criteria for "public figure" as I understand it. So if Cruz doesn't sue, are the women suing?

Scratch that - at least two of them do not meet the criteria, if the NE's characterization of them as a teacher and a prostitute is correct.
The other three are high profile campaign/media people, so maybe they are public figures.
We'll see. It just seems unusual that photos of the "other" people were printed by NE. Not the case in any of the stories RIF posted.

JMH-- Comey has stated (I believe in Congress testimony) that the majority of the 31,000+ 'deleted' emails were recovered since the FBI got the server in August,2015. That's why immunity for the IT nerd and the 147 FBI agents on the case is so intriguing. The 2 Broad possibilities are 1: Comey is putting on a YUGGGE show to claim 'all avenues were examined, but no criminality was found" and whitewash Hilligula's crimes like my friend of 36 years got a pass on IRS Tea Party prosecution (Steve was curious why I wasn't happier for him, my wife and I met him for dinner literally the NIGHT he got the DoJ letter) OR 2. Comey is compliling so much evidence of criminality, Lynch will have to lie her ass off for not indicting.

"technically illiterate'?
How does someone fitting that description even know about having a personal email server set up?
