Wash Free Beacon "The head of the international community’s nuclear watchdog organization disclosed Monday that certain agreements reached under the Iran nuclear deal limit inspectors from publicly reporting on potential violations by the Islamic Republic. Yukiya Amano, chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, which is responsible for ensuring Iran complies with the agreement, told reporters that his agency is no longer permitted to release details about Iran’s nuclear program and compliance with the deal. Amano’s remarks come on the heels of a February IAEA oversight report that omitted many details and figures related to Iran’s nuclear program."

From the last thread, it was suggested that Cruz's best shot is one-on-one vs The Donald. I'd be concerned that if Kasich and Rubio stay in till after the 15th, and if Trump takes a couple of those winner-take-all big states, it might be too late. I haven't done the math, but it seems possible Cruz could beat Trump the rest of the way (not in every single state, but in most) and still not keep Trump below 1237. So maybe he does need Rubio to win FL and Kasich to win OH?

Under Jay Cost's numbers, jimmyk, Trumpster needs 58% of the remaining potentially committable delegates (some delegates go into Cleveland uncommitted) from here on to get to 50% plus one. Not happening whether or not Rubisich stays in. The problem is that if Rubisich stays in, Trump might secure enough delegates so that he'll have Trumpmentum in Cleveland. Rubisich can't stop Trump; only Cruz can.
Re Trump's supporters: They are far more likely to move over to Cruz in the general election if Ted beats Donald mano a mano before Cleveland than if a deadlocked convention awards the nomination to Romney or Ryan after Trump goes into Cleveland in the low to mid 40% range in delegates.
What Cruz needs is to present the voters with a clear choice between a conservative and a wheeler dealer Rockefeller Republican. That only happens if Rubisich bows out.
I understand the argument against my view that Cruz won't come out as the nominee in a deadlocked convention. The argument is that the delegates, on the second ballot or third or whenever, will come to realize that nominating Cruz is the best way to keep The Donald's disappointed supporters. That's not my view of what's going to happen. My view is that Team Mittster will be strong enough to engineer a Mittster or Ryan nomination.

Or this from Fox today: "SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea on Monday issued its latest belligerent threat, warning of an indiscriminate "pre-emptive nuclear strike of justice" on Washington and Seoul, this time in reaction to the start of huge U.S.-South Korean military drills."
Ya know.
About that line "our friends not trusting us and our enemies not fearing us..."
Yes we can track the NK's ICBM capability OK so we will see that threat to the US atleast as it matures. But of course since we know they have the bomb(s), and we know the Potomac River is connected to the bay then the ocean and it is easy to get decent size boats up to Georgetown, a truly crazy Nork leader could nuke DC with his existing capability. And MADD is not the deterrent to a crazy man with nothing that it is to a real country...
So. The incoming R Potus should set the tone for the new reality by just Nuking N Korea on, say, January 21, 2017.
You know RR got the hostages back from Iran because they thought RR might do something that Jimmah would not. But since then we have let so many red lines get ignored that we should redraw expectations, so to speak.

Here are the latest stats on early votes in FL from the Sec of State website:
That's a pretty small graphic. 602,971K Republican votes between early and absentee.
There were just short of 1.7M total primary votes in the Republican primary in FL in 2012. This article says that early voting in 2012 was ~600K:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/31/final-poll-early-voting-gives-romney-a-leg-up-in-florida/
Early voting in FL ends 3/12 - so six more days for early votes (absentee ballots no longer being accepted).

The Rubio early vote lead is based on Monmouth's poll. They asked people if they voted early, and if so, for whom did they vote. Allah says the sample is . . . 80 voters.

Sure they can, Appalled, or at least Mittster can. If Mittster weren't maneuvering, he wouldn't have refused to preclude himself from accepting the nomination. That stuff about not being able to say no if nominated is BS. Mittster knows the convention would not turn to him as the savior. It would only turn to him after back room wheeling and dealing.

If there is a brokered convention it will be because Trump and Cruz--the two "outsider" candidates--have pretty much divided the delegates and votes up between them. So if the GOPe wants to destroy their down ticket candidates, forcing those ultimate insiders Romney and/or Ryan on their voters in the mood we're in, after back room wheeling and dealing, is the sure way to do it. Not only would Trump voters bolt the party completely, but I would venture to guess that a hefty proportion of Cruz voters would as well. If they can't see how self-destructive that is to the party as a whole in the general they are too stupid to govern.
Gov. Otter of Idaho just called me from Las Vegas (well, his voice recording did), urging me to vote for Kasich tomorrow to stop Trump. Yesterday evening when I got home after being out of town for three days, I had FIVE messages on my phone from other Idaho state republicans urging me to vote for Rubio, because only Rubio can stop Trump.
Come on, the only candidate who seriously has a chance of beating Trump in Idaho is Cruz, so why aren't they pushing him.
I'm more than ever convinced that the GOPe isn't going to allow either Trump OR Cruz to get the nomination, no matter what they have to do to stop it. Hello, President Hillary.

I agree with jimmyk. "if Trump takes a couple of those winner-take-all big states, it might be too late." That means, as Willard suggests, vote Rubio in Florida and Kasich in Ohio. The report -- not confirmed of course -- that Rubio has done well in early Florida voting reinforces that notion. The worst thing would be for Cruz to play spoiler in Florida and end up giving a yuuge chunk of delegates to Donny Boy.

All sides are doing it, of course, but I do not think anyone of them is perfect . None of them are satan incarnate either, and the lie mongering and foot stamping all around turns me off. None of us know either who is more likely to beat Hillary--yet. OTOH the enthusiasm I'm seeing around the country from a broad cross sector of people and my visceral impression of Cruz so far suggest to me he has a better shot at it.

As you know my daughter and my granddaughter (now staying with me) are Bernie supporters.
When the Town Hall came on, I turned it on out in the family room. Daughter came home and I gave her my recliner seat and I came into the office to see comments.
I went out to get a glass of wine in the break, and they had turned the TV to CARTOONS!!!!
Bwahahaha!!
Next time I am told something about the dems, I will say, "You didn't even bother to watch what they actually SAID!!"
This is a key to democrats. They really are uninterested in politics so vote democrat because of peer pressure, what they think is "fair," and tribalism. Honest to gosh it dumbfounded me.
When I was young and a democrat, back in the 60's and early 70's, I watched EVERYTHIING about politics. I sat through all of the Watergate hearings and my son (then 4-5) watched, too. He actually could identify some of the people involved.
Seems to me that dems have been left with a bunch of people who do not really like politics and are uninterested, but vote based on feelings and muddled ideas of what is fair.
The GOP should address this, but they won't.

Rubio needs to drop out, before Florida, and endorse Cruz. I'm pretty sure he'll do the first part, drop out, maybe on Wednesday morning, after tomorrow's wipe-outs. I don't blame Jeb for not endorsing Rubio, Rubio wasn't "supposed" to be running against Jeb in the first place. And Jeb feels wounded, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear from him again until after the next president gets inaugurated. Romney is being despicable, I have to admit it even though I like him; he's just watching from above, a vulture dreaming of a brokered convention. It doesn't matter if that's exactly true or not, what's important is that he doesn't even care if it looks that way - not very statesmanlike. But Romney can't help Rubio in any case. Cruz has to be the anti-Trump, Kasich just doesn't have the fortitude to slug it out. It would be great if Rubio realized this and set the "GOPe" on course to unify behind Cruz. As it is, it's tough enough for Rubio to realize he has way to get to the finish line regardless of a Monday poll that puts him just 8 points behind Trump in Florida. He's running fourth in every single Michigan poll, and he needs to salvage his career. Wednesday morning, and I hope he endorses Cruz.

Cruz says 4 senators are going to endorse him. Anyone want to guess who?

Rubio is certainly not going to drop out before Fla and I think he's delusional enough or his consulatants greedy enough for what's left in the cas drawer to hang on lonber.

Can Rubio salvage a political career after this? He's taken some major shots which might be rough to recover from.

CH, I may be wrong, but I think Rubio's toast after this.

Well logically it should be sasse who he worked with, cotton and a few others, but logic never enters into these things.

No, MM, I waffled after the Bush comments, too.
Trump is never going to be the candidate we hoped for. But I think that unless he catches fire, Cruz is a big risk. His appeal is limited even within the party.
Also, I believe that without Trump the GOP would be wasting a huge opportunity to shatter the categories and draw a crossover vote the likes of which hasn't been seen since Reagan.
Also I have been waiting twenty years to see Hillary figuratively smacked around. Yes, it's immature, but I think there needs to be catharsis of some sort after eight years under the lefty yoke. Call it a reset.

Well he's got top men from tpaw, maverick and w's men so what could go wrong?
Posted by: narciso | March 07, 2016 at 09:29 PM
clarice,
He's already declared he is not running for re-election to the Senate.
I would be interested to know if he has been promised a lobbyist or think tank position for big bucks, on the premise he keeps his opposition up and stays in the race (hurting both Cruz and Trump).
This was suggested to me by a local friend today, and I think it was not out of reason.

mm, That sounds about right. Rubio is petty enough to do just that. I am very disappointed in him and also my husband who voted for him in early voting here in Ga.

They meaning the commentariat, seem to be more interested in their own shopwarm memes, than looking at what is actually going on.

I think Rubio's toast after this.
I don't think so, he's young. His mistake was running this time instead of getting more experience and maturity. He should run for governor of FL. He's not a bad guy. He's made some youthful mistakes and can recover.
As far as dropping out, he really needs to ask himself, "What do I offer that Cruz doesn't already provide?" The answer is clearly "nada." Time to show some class and depart gracefully.
