Oh, we're in a fine mess here in SW OH. A terrible accident on one of the bridges from KY to OH caused a judge to extend the voting by one hour (til 8:30)
The problem is that the judge's order didn't come until 20 minutes after the polls had officially closed.
Local BOE officials are scrambling to figure out what to do.
(also, daddy, I left a little fun for you on the dead thread.)
Local official also reports record R turnout at the polls.
Let me register my objection to the use by Roger Kimball of Roderick Spode as a simulacrum of Trump.
What he shamefully doesn't state is that Spode was a devastating caricature of Oswald Mosely who was an actual, capital, F Fascist [formerly of the Labour Party] who was imprisoned during WWII as a bit of a traitor.
It is especially grating to have Wodehouse, who was also falsely accused of fascist/Nazi sympathies, to be used to smear Trump.
Kimball is too genteel [chicken] to accuse Trump frontally of being a fascist and so uses an oblique method to ridicule him with the same defamatory crap that has become so tiresome, including the imbecilic "oh, he demands a Nazi salute and a personal allegiance chant".
I am almost to the point that I hope Trump is elected even if he is an incompetent disaster just to kick these Chicken Little Shits in the teeth.
Fascists and Nazis were and are real and they employ certain things like mass murder, concentration camps, world wars, assassination of both political opponents and guys who write crap like Roger Kimball's retarded column.
Here is one fascistic law I could get behind. Every time some idiot compares somebody they don't like to a fascist or a Nazi they have to go live in a real fascist dictatorship for a couple of years. We could call it community service.
Dondi would have had a bit more dignity if he gave some better answers, i.e. not lies, for his Gang of 8 activity. At least he has Jeanette to go home to.
It just kills me to see pundits and twitter asswipes saying how classy Rubio was in his speech, and what a bright future the guy has in politics after just shitting on him for weeks on end. This election cycle is truly disheartening.
Enlightened at 08:31: Precisely. I always wonder why so many folks here seem to take the ordinary nonsense from the media as seriously as they seem to do.
The Pacers are sporting the Hickory High unis tonight against the Celtics. Having a tough time finding Jimmy Chitwood on the floor. Must be riding the pine for failure to pass four times before shooting.
he was a very perceptive fellow at the new criterion, where he predicted all the post modern
claptrap that has become the sjw template, but he insists 'the long dark night of fascism is falling on america; of course revel pointed out, it always lands in Europe,
So an accident on one bridge between Ky and OH has a judge change the law??? How many thousands of voters got stranded in KY, and how could the Judge possibly know the situation with any clarity.
Schumer can hang Rubio's scalp on his trophy case. He was poisoned after that gang of 8 stuff. And went a little too Alinskyite against Cruz. Although is penultimate debate was very entertaining and revealing, it was none too effective with the voters. He'll be back, watch, he'll run for Gov.
I see from the FOX Ohio Electoral Map on the show that it looks like Trump won every county along the southern border and the eastern border of Ohio---Kasich all the rest. Is there a reasonable explanation for the border of the State going Trump in your opinion,.
I recall the old joke was something like "The Capitol of West Virginia was Xenia Ohio", so if that old line partially explains, please elaborate for us non-Buckeyes.
Rubio got exactly what he should have expected.
If he had run as a center-right, pro amnesty guy and stuck to it he might have gone somewhere.
When you run as a Tea Party guy and then turn your back on at least one of the top two Tea Party issues you can't expect anyone to trust you or think you have any solid principles.
Newt says to Brett Baire that the idea of a contested campaign coming out with some GOP candidate not Trump or not Cruz is insane.
He says that is not going to happen and Trump and Cruz will refuse to allow that to happen.
Says that the GOP Establishment has thrown away it's opportunity to influence things and mentions that the JiB GOPe money-machine actually spent more money attacking Rubio than attacking either Cruz or Trump, and says jokingly that a lot of old GOP advisors are in DC tonight drinking heavily and wondering about having to go out and get new jobs in a different business.
Says Cruz and Trump are the natural consequence of the GOP not listening to the electorate over the last many years.
Sorry I can't transcribe it verbatim, but it was a good segment and I think I got the gist correctly.
Sadly, Hillary wins big in North Carolina. idiots.
mike - just letting you know that "forebears" is rarely seen or heard except with genealogy fans (Mrs. Buckeye and Frau). It is not a word on most spelling lists if any at all--too easy, though, for spelling bee events. Even as a retired teacher (all levels including German at jr. and sr. high), I wouldn't fault you or anyone for messing up *online*--jeez!--with a misspelled word or two.
The "forbears we go to daddy" was a little silliness about daddy's encounters with the genus ursus.
FOX put Rodham's speech on. I had to turn it off, only a FU(redacted for Lent) MORON would not be able to see through her utter bullsh(redacted).
Seriously that (redacted) whore is a piece of work, and those who cheer her should be lined up.
PD, surely you're not suggesting she looks better than she sounds. I tried mute, but then had to change the channel.
Sue, I feel a bit bad for Rubio, but he clearly got squeezed out between Cruz and Trump. He should have bowed out last week. Just not his year, but he'll be back.
Anyone have a link to the pic of LIAR in the sign behind Rodham the other day??
Remember the 2nd L in Hillary was obscured and the pic showed L I A R as she spoke?
Did you guys know that Kasich's father was a Mailman?
I had never heard that before but he just mentioned it in his victory speech. That is so cool that a son of a Mailman could wind up running for the Presidency of the United States.
Well, I would prefer Cruz over Trump, but that's impossible now so I can live with Trump to avoid a brokered convention.
If there is a brokered convention you get a certain 8 years of Rodham anyway, so what exactly have you gained? I can't see the point of stopping Trump if you cripple the party in the process. Trump voters will walk--that's a minimum of 35% of the votes you need to beat her right there. And, please, don't tell me they can be won back. Not after all these months of being labeled with every slur in the dictionary and told they need to die off already.
And then there are the Cruz voters. Unless the Top Men chose him to be the nominee (and we all know they won't) you got to figure some of his voters will walk too. Even if it's only 10% you've already lost almost half of your base.
And what does losing almost 50% of your base do to the down ticket races? So it'll be not only bye-bye White House, but bye-bye Senate, and maybe bye-bye House, some governors, and maybe even some state legislatures.
It's hard to tell these days. Why is his Fathers' career of dropping of peoples mail a big deal. I mean Obama's Father was......er.....he was....errr....
If the only rational chance to beat Hillary is for everyone to vote Trump all the way ... how many of the people saying "Trump can't beat Hillary" would change that tune and go Trump?
So what states are left that Trump won't win? I assume Utah will go for Cruz based on how well he did with the Mormon vote in Idaho. Am I missing some other obvious loss?
I see from the FOX Ohio Electoral Map on the show that it looks like Trump won every county along the southern border and the eastern border of Ohio---Kasich all the rest. Is there a reasonable explanation for the border of the State going Trump in your opinion,.
Buckeye and even JiB are more familiar with the southern counties than I am. I know that they tend to be more Republican leaning but that doesn't necessarily mean conservative, i.e. Johnny Boehner. They probably felt betrayed by the mailman's son's Medicaid antics and went for Trump as a protest vote instead of Cruz. The southeastern counties have hated 404 for his coal prohibition but they might otherwise be donk union strongholds.
You have to remember that the Ohio GOP is a very squish friendly organization, with RINOs like Taft and Voinovich being the templates. Jim Rhodes was the only decent governor since I've lived here. I had high hopes initially for Kasich but that was before he started obsessing on the pearly gates.
Rubio definitely should have quit last week, when it might have made a difference.
In other news, Rush says, "I’m here to tell you Jeb Bush is gonna be the nominee”. What a card that Rush is, it could never happen (I mean, Trump actually would punch Reince Preibus in the face on national television).
derwill--I believe I heard someone--Levin maybe--saying Today that only FL and OH (of Today's primary states) are winner-take-all, and that if Kasich were to win OH it is highly unlikely that Trump will get enough votes to win on the first ballot. If true, things get real interesting. While the brokered convention GOPe-engineered no-Trump ticket is a possibility (and would be a disaster of epic proportions, IMO) other possibilities are a GOPe-supported Cruz/GOPer ticket (seems unlikely, and also a disaster, but who the hell knows) or a Trump-Cruz ticket. Hmmmm--the end of the GOPe as we know it? Would they do it? Or does Trump pick a GOPer--Kasich?--and screw Cruz and the conservatives?
The thing that both the GOPe and the Cruz conservatives have to accept is that the Trump constituency is the key to the future. I think most Cruz people have known this for a long time; the GOPe not so much.
I like boatbuilder's analysis. I've been pointing out for a while, at least since Dave Brat's win, that the GOPe has to learn to share power with conservatives; and they can either do it the easy way or the hard way.
There was an article this morning by Christiane Amanpour who reported on a woman who had worked for Trump as a construction manager. Lots of stuff about him losing his temper and being unpredictable. She is supporting Hillary.
Had on Levin this evening and a guy who claimed to have worked at Mar-a-Lago for 25 years who claimed the same thing, and said he didn't trust him (for no reason given).
Levin of course thought this was very interesting since he supports Cruz.
I thought it was really interesting that these two people seemed to come forward on the same day.
Yesterday Howie Carr mentioned that his frequent texter "Jay from Chelsea" had a theory about why Hillary keeps coughing, but it's a family show so he couldn't share what it was, and then there was a lot of snickering.
Local news gives Florida to Trump.

Rove referred to that part of Ohio as "Appalachia," probably barely concealing a sneer.

They thought he was gonna build a wall there to keep the Kentuckians out.

"Kasich all the rest."
15% of Dems switched to Rep to vote for Kasich as an anti-Trump vote.
Posted by: Ollie | March 15, 2016 at 09:51 PM
Why would Dems do that when Trump is a sure loser in November?
A puzzler, I tell ya.

Article on Politico:
Kasich won Ohio. Now what?
Subhead:
He would need more than 100 percent of remaining delegates to clinch the nomination.

Narciso,
What was Gus's horse's name in Lonesome Dove?

They want to provide a counter to the other 15% of Dems who switched to vote for Trump because.....Trump!

hrt--I know you like the guy, so don't wish that on him. His loss in the general would be humiliatingly epic.

Captain is the lonesome dove expert, mine is Diehard, Airplane and Python, among others,
how else would ahians vote for someone who wants to euthanize their industry,

Derwil, I'm thinking the Jeb wouldn't go near that kind of "solution" if it was handed to him on a silver plate. Now Romney, perhaps...

Gus killed his horse to use his body as a shield when fighting off Blue Duck's men. Are you sure you don't mean Call's horse, the Hellbitch?

Hello, everyone!
Concert was good. Somehow, however, I lost my iPad. I will go up to the school tomorrow to check the auditorium, but I bet it's gone.
Rats. No replacement possible, so that sucks.
On the other hand, granddaughter had a solo in Saint-Saens Danse Macabre, which she performed very well.
Glad to see Trump had a good night.
Just in time for the press conference!

C. Lew assumes the Chris Christie position over Trump's right shoulder. And certainly doesn't look like a hostage.
And gets a shoutout!
Stupid, whiny #NeverTrumpers thought they'd have his scalp last week.

derwill--I believe I heard someone--Levin maybe--saying Today that only FL and OH (of Today's primary states) are winner-take-all, and that if Kasich were to win OH it is highly unlikely that Trump will get enough votes to win on the first ballot.
Interesting times.

Has Cruz won anywhere today? Losing NC to Trump doesn't bode well for him.

I like boatbuilder's analysis. I've been pointing out for a while, at least since Dave Brat's win, that the GOPe has to learn to share power with conservatives; and they can either do it the easy way or the hard way.
Welcome to the hard way.

You have it backwards, dave, cruz was counting on that knockout blow, now mailman's son will be doing the rocky deal for a few days,

I guess we are on the carp too...

One thing I noticed today.
